stevie55: Dear NNPC hopefuls, Believe this at your own peril. The process had gone beyond the score aggregation process when HR sent a memo to every staff last week. Appointment list will be sent to FCC - if it isn't there already - for approval today. This process is quicker than anyone thinks. At this pace, if the APL isn't ready before the end of this month then I'd be very shocked.
No tension. Hakuna Matata. Hand over everything to God and drink water.
1. 1000GTs to get Apl’s and 250 EH’s needed. 2. Competition is stiff all round but most especially for EH cadre because interview scores are close and about 5 to be selected per state and about 8 in oil producing states. 3. No consideration for CBT scores as they were aggregated as just pass on their database 4. It’s all down to fine margins. 5. Selection is being worked on now and we should hear from them by early August
Jarus: I'm a tax professional myself. It has its merits and demerits.
Main pros:
1. As it is a very specialised branch of Accounting/Law, it will be less competitive when he wants to move from practice (Big 4) to the industry (company). He does not have to compete with other accountants. What this means is, you beat the competition from other accountants (mainly auditors) when a tax opening is advertised. There are a lot of accountants and any opening for accounting/finance position is usually very competitive.
2. Also, more and more companies are becoming tax conscious, and setting up tax department, which means the demand for tax professionals will continue to rise.
3. Somehow, it also has job security when you move to industry. Because it is a very specialized field, they cannot just move just any other accountant there unlike other units within Finance department. If the department is lean (i.e just 1 or 2, or max 3 people in tax department, depending on size of company), tax department is almost immune from layoff.
Main cons:
1. It is too restrictive, unlike other aspects of accounting. You can hardly apply for any role outside tax (eg Finance Manager) and be considered. They will tell you are too specialised. Audit guys have better advantage here.
2. With few exceptions, you are least likely to be promoted Finance Manager or CFO among the other accountants within a company because you are too specialized. An exception is a PwC Tax Partner that was recently made CFO of Forte Oil.
geektrovert: In 2019, you can get a funded MSc with the right information and patience.
If I were in your shoes, after resuming for NNPC (based on your assumption), I will wait for a year or two, then discuss with my line manager about taking a study leave. Then I will go to Canada for my MSc.

Gbyms: Well, on a lighter note. It’s not unlikely that Nnpc might have paid unsuccessful candidates transportation allowance as some sort of consolation. Any industry that wants to maximize profit can employ that strategy. I mean why pay your soon employees an itsy bitsy stipend when you are about to absorb them. Then comes the thought of payment by batch. It doesn’t add up. I mean! It’s Nnpc. They are not lacking funds. So why send in batches. From my Analysis, it seems quite a majority on Nairaland have not received payment yet. You should not be surprised. The interview tips shared here was a great enlightenment and i promise you, quite a majority of Nairalanders would get this job as we all braved for the impact hence we were not taken by surprise despite the dynamics of the questions. You would be shook by how many non Nairalanders have received the transport fare. Actually, everyone that did the interview I know of have been paid. So? But again, these are just logical deductions. Do not be afraid if you have been paid and Do not rejoice if you have not been paid. There’s a thin line between the love letter and appointment letter. Hold on to your Faith. There’s nothing sweet like Grace. Even if Nnpc actually sent out to unsuccessful candidates, you can still be called because of Grace. The exception to every rule of law. Thanks. You are blessed!
hmmm.
I also noticed that a quite a number of forumites were actually shortlisted for interview...
BenFlash: You guys should allow me to digress a bit because I can't hold it any longer...
Dear Nigerian graduates and potential NNPC staff, the words "Please" and "Kindly" connote the same thing, stop using them in the same sentence, it is hurting my eyes.
My sincere apologies for digressing, you all can go back to your Tf/APL conundrum.
Thank you
Signed.

mosgoon: Look over my Shoulder. It's a case interview tutorial material for management consulting firms done by Victor Cheng, the very popular former management consultant at Mckinsey (the top management consulting firm in the world) and case inteview tutor. But it's really expensive (100k in naira) and i found out it was critical to me getting the Mckinsey job in Mck Nigeria as a business analyst. My time at Mck also made me know how valuable the material is due to several case studies i was exposed to and how many applicants to Mck don't prepare well. So in summary LOMS includes both candidate-led case style dialogues and interviewer-led/command and control formats and it's very beneficial for all levels including associate level above which allows only applicants with MBAs
Hi, I really love your spirit. It is quite obvious you will go far in life...Networking with someone like you will indeed be an asset.
Please i am also interested in the material. I would appreciate if it is sent to thomaseghosa@gmail.com
