INTRODUCTION
In most countries, marketing problems are currently regarded as beyond the scope of field-level agricultural extension workers who are the officers in direct contact with the farmers. Therefore, the farmer has to take on commercial and marketing skills. Marketing is the process by which the space between the producer and the consumer is bridged. The process obviously involves transport and techniques for minimizing crop losses. An effective distribution system will also require the establishment of rural businesses such as truck drivers and packaging manufacturers, contractors and wholesalers. The production/marketing chain is a two way process. Produce flows from the rural areas into the cities; money and market information should flow back. As tastes in the city market evolve, the rural community can use this market information to target its production accordingly. This course aims to enhance farmers’ ability in commercial production planning, management of vegetables, tropical fruits, flowers and ornamental plants and to focus on crops produced in order to make it available commercially, particularly with those which have high market potential in participants’ home countries.

INTRODUCTION
Farmers’ organization’s-FOs represent farmers’ own interests. They have emerged as a result of Farmers own, real expressed needs. They are effective channels of communication between the member-farmers. Without them, a situation of isolated voices would arise, that lack coordination and general power to affect the behavior of agricultural service providers. Farmer organizations therefore need to be strengthened. FO’s for instance do not have access to diverse sources of income, in some instances, there are no core cultural or economic activities that bind their members, FO’s in certain instances do not have access to capacity-building support, they sometimes operate in unfriendly institutional environment (lack of supportive legislation, no formal recognition). They tend to be weak and are unable to influence powerful actors with the needs of their members.
The Sustainable Livelihoods-SL approach to rural development recognizes the key importance of institutions and organizations to rural people for achieving positive livelihood outcomes
In many prevailing situations worldwide, formation of groups and farmer organizations is done without training them properly in theory and practice on the basic principles of community organizations. Majority of the farmers do not have many skills and experience in the process of establishing these organizations. However, many government agencies have developed national policies for rural development and designed policy framework to help rural people become organized so that delivery of services could be channeled through the various types of farmer organizations or groups. Well-meaning policies provide blueprint structures for farmer organizations (FO) in the form of cooperatives and commodity organizations in order to provide various inputs, marketing, and educational services to the farmers. However, a number of issues surround the establishment and functioning of farmer organizations remain unaddressed.

INTRODUCTION
In 2016, the ambitious 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were launched to succeed the 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that ended in 2015. The SDGs besides having a gender equality goal, every other goal has a gender dimension in it. In implementation of the SDGs, development research led by science is essential in providing information based on evidence through data gathering. Scientific research have proved that gender norms affect who does the research, how research is prioritized, how the research is designed and conducted, and how data is interpreted and shared as well as the impact of the research at the community level and globally. In a situation where research is gender subjective, the consequence will escalate to formulation of policies, legal frameworks and laws that are not gender inclusive thereby perpetuating gender inequality in the society.
Integrating gender into scientific research will improve the quality and relevance of research, lead to new ideas and ways of thinking about issues, and new interpretations of data resulting to possible innovations for men and women.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
The course target researchers, students and statistics producers and users who aim to influence the process of gender statistics collection, analysis and use. This includes policymakers and staff from government agencies.

DURATION
5 Days

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, learners will learn:
• What integrating gender into research entails
• Importance of integrating gender into scientific research for development
• How to integrate gender dimensions into the different stages of scientific research
• How to integrate gender for better research quality, output and impact
• How to ensure their research informs wider continental and global agendas such as Agenda 2063 and the a Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) respectively,
• How to ensure research contributes to change in the community livelihood.

INTRODUCTION
Standard courses on statistical analysis assume that survey data arise from a simple random sample of the target population. Little attention is given to characteristics often associated with survey data, including missing data, unequal probabilities of selection, stratified multistage sample designs, and measurement errors. Most standard statistical procedures in software packages commonly used for data analysis (e.g. SAS, SPSS, and Stata) do not allow the analyst to take these properties of survey data into account unless specialized survey procedures are used. Failure to do so can have an important impact on the results of all types of analyses, ranging from simple descriptive statistics to estimates of parameters of multivariate models.
This course provides an introduction to specialized software procedures that have been developed for the analysis of complex sample survey data including testing for between-group differences in means and proportions, regression analysis, logistic regression and multilevel modeling. We will also consider the consequences of non-response and missing data on survey analysis and methods for dealing with missing data. Specialized procedures for survey data analysis from the Stata systems for data management and analysis will be used to develop course examples and exercises

DURATION
10 Days

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
The course does not require rigorous training in mathematics; however, proficiency in basic mathematics, including algebra and functions, is essential. Survey sampling methods and a basic understanding of sampling concepts such as stratification, cluster sampling and weighting is required. Participants should also have familiarity with basic statistical concepts, including point estimates, sampling variance, confidence intervals, p-values, the maximum likelihood method of estimation and simple linear and logistic regression models.

TOPICS COVERED
• Survey estimation and inference for complex designs.
• Sampling error calculation models; ultimate clusters
• Sampling error estimation for descriptive statistics
• Replication Methods for Variance Estimation
• Estimation and inference for special statistics (percentiles, indices)
• Methods for Categorical Data
• Linear Regression Analysis
• Logistic Regression Analysis
• Multinomial, ordinal logistic regression
• Poisson and negative binomial regression
• Survival analysis and event history analysis
• Multiple imputation inference for survey data

INTRODUCTION
OPENHDS is an open source Android tablet application that enables community field workers to collect births, deaths, migrations, pregnancies, deliveries, immunization and other pertinent health information. Field workers can collect data "offline" and upload data to the OPENHDS server when they have mobile connectivity. Health program administrators and policy makers can thus have real time access to health and demographic information in the community.
The web-enabled, tablet-based OPENHDS application allows users to efficiently select previously registered individuals and launch various Open Data Kit (ODK) forms to collect additional demographic, morbidity, and service delivery information. The mobile application facilitates the collection, through household interviews, of many health events that occur in the community (or outside the formal health system). Even with a relatively small target population, accurate and statistically significant health and demographic rates can be computed when health events are combined with ongoing population demographic information. In addition to computing demographic data, health administrators and researchers are able to assess health system utilization and the burden of disease for a given population over time.
The OPENHDS also maintains a consistent record of significant demographic events that occur to a population in a fixed geographic region and generates up to date registration books. This course focuses on installation, use and management of OPENHDS. The concepts presented are reinforced with practical exercises at the end of each section. We also provide additional exercises and materials at the end of each module and access to our experts for any further questions.

INTRODUCTION
There is increasing demand from multilateral agencies, funding bodies as well as boards of private companies for a strong demonstration that projects are being monitored and evaluated effectively.
Effective project monitoring allows a project team to make appropriate decisions on a day-to-day basis and ensures that projects are carried out as planned and modified when necessary. Successful programs and projects begin from a pre-planned series of activities and events. However, things rarely work out exactly as planned. Managers must therefore periodically monitor selected indicators and measure performance during implementation, so they can make timely adjustments where necessary, as well as subsequently determine the extent to which the program or project achieved its objectives. This Microsoft Project training course will introduce you to the concepts of project planning. INTRODUCTION
Most of the rural poor rely heavily on their local environments to provide basic necessities like water, food and energy. These vital resources provide the backbone of many rural livelihoods and their stability is key to securing the wellbeing of the entire communities. Disasters and food insecurity are directly interconnected. They interrupt market access, trade and food supply, reduce income, deplete savings and erode livelihoods. Drought, plant pests and diseases, animal diseases and food contamination have a direct economic impact by reducing farm production, by adversely affecting prices, trade, and market access and by decreasing farm income and employment. Economic crises such as soaring food prices reduce real income, force the poor to sell their assets, decrease food consumption, and reduce their dietary diversity and access to safe and quality food. Disasters create poverty traps that increase the prevalence of food insecurity and malnutrition. Disaster risk reduction is about protecting people’s livelihoods from shocks, and strengthening their capacity to absorb the impact of, and recover from, disruptive events. It is a necessary ingredient for food and nutrition security. Furthermore, it also creates a multiplier effect that accelerates the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal 1: the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger.

INTRODUCTION
Markets are important for rural transformation and poverty alleviation. They provide the direct means through which the poor participate in economic activity as producers (farmers, business groups), employees (providers of labor) and consumers (of goods and services).
Working with smallholder farmers to design and set up new income-generating enterprise opportunities on the other hand is complex. It requires taking time and dedication to ensure success. This training programme aims at building the agro-enterprise capacity of rural development practitioners to enable them to facilitate the market integration of the beneficiaries. The participants will be guided through participatory processes for identifying market opportunities and developing viable agro-enterprises that are sustainable, and which are geared towards improving the incomes of rural farmers, processors and traders.
