Goldieluks:
Normality or not, norms and values should not be thrown into the bin,
just because one has mix up with these controversial western culture and life style.

where i come from in Africa,it is the man who does the proposing not the other way round, call my
idea ''archaic'' if you want.that is the African culture and it remains the best still.

A man is meant to play his role and not the woman playing the role of a man,if he doesn't remember
to propose during the relationship,he should be reminded of his duty. SHIKENA!
It has nothing to do with anything being western. In many non-western society it happens--even in African societies. Because you don't like the idea doesn't mean that society as a whole should just drop it. And I didn't call your idea archaic. If you wanna call it that then be my guest. I was only saying that what is normal to you may be abnormal to someone else. Your own norms don't rule or dictate others. I have no problems with values. A woman proposing to a man doesn't change the value system within our society.
@OP There's nothing bad in a woman proposing to a man! The problem is that we are stuck! It doesn't say anywhere in a religious book or any constitution that it's wrong, so therefore it's right. It just depends on what you believe in.
wink

Goldieluks:
i don't think its a good idea,
what happened to the man been a man and a woman a woman, huh??

what happened to norms and values??
gone with the wind of change?
Because a woman can do it doesn't mean there aren't any values or that the man is no loner a man. What's normal to you may be abnormal to someone else--your idea of normality isn't everyone else's idea.

RomanceRe: Lady Proposing To A Man by InkedNerd(f): 6:42am On Mar 26, 2011
@OP: I think your question should have been "What do you think of women proposing to me?" I don't think its a matter of whether or not it is wrong. I don't see why it is a problem. There are no rules or laws that say a woman can't propose to a man. In some cultures, women propose to men.

Nairaland GeneralRe: The Best 'gift' From My Parents by InkedNerd(f): 6:00pm On Mar 25, 2011
freechat:
Ordinarily, it should have been one of my best kept secrets, but am willing to lay it bare. Wondering what this is all about? Well, its about the best gift my parents ever gave me.

As a grown man, there are a fews things I expect my parents to still do for me. Like choosing a wife for me. I could never be cowed by any amount of pressure, and my parents know it. Perhaps, that explains why they were very wary when they asked me to come check out a certain lady whom they say is a 'stuff'. Mysteriously, against the backdrop of my tough disposition, I admitted at the drop of a hat. Providence you would say.

The lady in question turned out to have all the attributes I have been looking out for. "How did my parents' taste match mine so perfectly, especially when I havn't told them the kind of lady am looking for?", I asked thoughtfully. Well, today, I am happily married to this lady. And I can't stop thanking my parents for this gift.

What's the best gift you have ever received from your parents?
As a grown man, you expect your parents to choose a wife for you? Can you not do that yourself? undecided

Nellyon:
Now it was reported on tv she didnt buy it for her? thought your having been to Serendipity 3(which is the restaurant where they're at) revealed that fact to you?
Check my earlier comment on this topic, i was willing to just laugh about it, what irked me was you being c ock sure the mom didnt buy it, because you have '' been to Serendipity 3(which is the restaurant where they're at)''
I was trying to point out that little kids are in that restaurant all the time so its not uncommon for them to be picking up the items in the display. I've seen the kids in the restaurant pick up the candy only to have their mothers [or fathers or nannies] either yank it out of their hands or tell them no. Look, you can be as irked as you want, I know what I heard on tv when it was reported. What I said was "I've been to Serendipity 3 [which is the restaurant where they're at] and they have shelves of that candy and just about anyone can pick up the box of candy.", I said that to show to that the candy on the display was pretty much accessible to anyone, even a little child.
