you can still apply manure so long it don't touch the young crops,also on the variety issue I think many farmers will simply have no choice but to experiment with different types of seed types because of seed scarcity,we are even considering planting seeds from big ripe cu 999 fruits to see the outcome,

yea, some people plant Cu999 wash seed o. it's called watch here and sold in regular nylon for btw #10k - #12k and it's up to 120 grams sha

i have a customer that is ready to pay #15-20k for 50gram seed that was #8k last 2 weeks,even seeds like murano,darina,etc is no longer avalible now,even I gobbled up 10 tins of marketer variety I saw at agritopic office Enugu,we don't have the luxury of choice,work must go on

Yeah I have been monitoring this thread, and all I can figure out is getting into water melon � business could be very expensive, what if there is no or less rain in a year? And I notice water melon is always available through out the year, so how do they do it during dry seasons?

Rainfall this week has been scanty.

If peradventure, rain falls between now and first week of May, can I still risk planting the watermelon seeds? Since I am planting the 70 days maturity seeds, I think it would still escape heavy downpours which starts towards the end of July?

this might work out but I doubt it. it's getting late though and watermelon doesn't like too much water from fruiting stage. but like I said we can't accurately predict the weather. so this your planting will be a gamble
