Simple request — 2 bedroom, decent area, nothing crazy. I thought "okay, this should take a week or two max." Fast forward two months later, and I have officially aged. Agent Number 1 — The Ghost First agent I contacted seemed very serious on the phone. "Oga no worry, I get better house for you, very affordable." We agreed to meet by 10am on a Saturday. I got there by 9:45am like a responsible adult. Man didn't pick his calls until past 12pm. When he finally answered, "Ah sorry oga, wahala dey my side, make we do tomorrow." Tomorrow never came. I never heard from him again. To this day I don't know what "wahala" caught him. Agent Number 2 — The One Who Showed Me A Completely Different House From The Pictures This one sent me beautiful pictures on WhatsApp — tiled floor, POP ceiling, nice kitchen cabinets, the whole vibe. I was already mentally moving my furniture in. Got there in person... my brother, it was a different house entirely. No tiles, no POP, kitchen "cabinet" was one shelf nailed to the wall. When I asked him about the pictures he showed me, he said with a straight face, "ah that one na sample, make you see the potential." Potential ke? I wanted to see an apartment, not attend a vision-casting service. Agent Number 3 — Inspection Fee Wahala This one wanted inspection fee upfront before even confirming the house still dey available. I paid ₦5k "just to be sure," only for him to now say "ah sorry oga that particular house don dey taken since last week." So why did you collect my inspection fee for a house that's not available again? He then tried to hook me up with "another better one" like nothing happened. I collected my legs and left. Agent Number 4 — The Landlord Interrogation Finally found a place that looked promising. Nice area, decent price, agent seemed straightforward. Then I met the landlord. This man interviewed me like I was applying for a Central Bank governor position. Marital status, church, what I do for a living, my parents' occupation, whether I "party" (his words), how many people will be "coming in and out" of the apartment. At some point I nearly asked if he needed my BVN and blood type too. Agent Number 5 — The Agreement Fee Trauma Almost secured a place with another agent. Agreed on rent, agreed on the apartment, everything looking good. Then agreement time reached, and suddenly: agency fee, legal fee, caution fee, "association" fee, and one more mysterious fee that nobody could properly explain what it was even for. By the time I calculated everything, I realized I was basically paying almost double the actual rent just in "fees" alone. I calmly thanked them and walked away with what remained of my sanity (and my money). Where I finally landed Eventually found a place through a friend of a friend — no agent wahala, no mysterious fees, landlord was normal and didn't ask me about my church affiliation. Just straightforward negotiation and I moved in within a week. All that stress for two months, and the solution was right there through personal connection the whole time. Anyway, I'm still recovering emotionally from this whole experience. House hunting in this country should genuinely come with hazard pay. Who else has house-agent horror stories? I know I'm not the only one that has suffered for this country 😩👇

For as long as Nigerians have been moaning about these unregulated entity called house agents, government has not done anything to checkmate their excesses. I don't get them anywhere near my properties. Luckily before anyone moved out, I had potential tenants in waiting. I have never had a vacant unit for a month. Why would someone that never contributed a dime to my property charge clients 20% fee? Come on now. As a landlord, get a dedicated line for your business/tenants. Deal directly with them. It is your property/business after all. It is not as if tenants are scarce. Train your security on how to show them the property and handle the rest. We too do unnecessary "big man" in this poor country.

Bobloco: Direct insult to Christians’ — Vatsa knocks Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket for 2027
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Niger State, Jonathan Vatsa, has criticised the reported decision to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election, warning that Christians will not support another Muslim-Muslim ticket.
Vatsa described the move as “a direct insult” to the Christian community, saying it was politically insensitive and could cost the ruling party Christian votes.
In a statement issued in Minna on Saturday, the former Niger State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism said the circumstances that justified the same-faith ticket in 2023 no longer existed.
“I think this is a grievous mistake by the APC. It is highly insensitive,” he said.
According to him, those behind the decision “did not mean well” for the President or the party.
“With the current situation in the country and the concerns over the safety of Christians, nobody expected the President to repeat this arrangement,” Vatsa said.
He argued that the APC would struggle to convince Christians to support its ticket in 2027, especially if other political parties field Christian candidates.
“What do you expect us to tell the Christian community, to vote for another Muslim-Muslim ticket?” he insisted.
Vatsa, who recently urged Niger State Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago to pick a Christian running mate for the 2027 governorship election, said Christians already feel insecure and would be more comfortable with a Christian vice-presidential candidate.
He warned that repeating the Muslim-Muslim ticket could have “grievous consequences” for the APC’s electoral chances.
The APC stalwart, however, clarified that his position was not against Vice President Shettima or the Muslim community.
“I have nothing against the Vice President or the Muslim community. I am speaking for equity, justice and fairness in the political arrangement of the country,” he added..

I've seen comments like yours on Nairaland and X, and they're deeply disturbing. Even after the children were reunited with their families, some people still searched for a reason to diminish it. That says a lot.

VirusVaccine: On 20th Dec 2025 I paid 2.7M With 700k as agent fee amongst other expenses (the sublessor who is a company said that their office activities needs to be evacuated from the building, so I should wait till January 1st). then on 1st January, 2026, I moved into my new 1 room residential apartment for which the sublessor (company) uses the main building for their official activities and just yesterday the company as the sublessor gave me a Non-renewal notice Reason that they want to “convert the property into office space for its operational use” and they are discontinuing renewal of rent.
Note that before I moved in, the company was making use of the said apartment/property which they rented to me with some of their desks still in my possession.
I have done a number of renovations on the property from - changing seating room window and entrance door, - bought door and window burglaries, - construction of an extension to prevent crawling and flying insects, rain water - German Flooring a 6/7ft floor at the entrance - painting - amongst other things
Honestly, this whole situation has sent me into depression, physiologically imbalance and anxiety.

He is currently being detained by the ICPC, but the court ordered that he should be allowed to go to the hospital to see his doctor. It ordered that such visits should strictly be for medical reasons.
However, Honourable Isa Mohammed Ashiru Kudan posted a photo that he took with Mallam El-Rufai. Honourable Ashiru was the PDP Kaduna State governorship candidate in the 2023 elections and he is the ADC candidate for the same position in the 2027 elections.
The ICPC believes that the hospital visit was used as a ploy to have a political meeting and so it arrested Mallam El-Rufai's doctor, Professor Bello Abubakar for violating the court order and making false statements.
Mallam El-Rufai's party, the ADC, accused the ICPC of arresting the doctor because he insisted that El-Rufai needed to be admitted. They also claim that ICPC officers assaulted the doctor and El-Rufai's wife. The ICPC says that its officers acted professionally.
Meanwhile, El-Rufai's wife, Hajia Asiya El-Rufai, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to guarantee Mallam El-Rufai's constitutional rights. I need genuine opinions on a relationship dilemma.
My younger sister is 31 years old. She's highly educated with a master's degree, works with an NGO as a Programme Coordinator and Mental Health Counselor, and is also a skilled fashion designer with equipment worth over ₦2 million. She's hardworking, focused, and has consistently supported our family. Her job has taken her across different states, exposing her to diverse experiences and opportunities. Above all, she's deeply committed to her Christian faith.
She recently met a fellow church brother who has expressed serious interest in marrying her. However, he left school after Primary Six and works as a traditional window louvre fabricator. While there's absolutely nothing wrong with learning a trade, he has had opportunities to upgrade his skills to modern aluminium fabrication but hasn't pursued them. Instead, he seems more interested in becoming a pastor or working in a church, though he currently has no clear or realistic path to achieving that.
Another concern is the family dynamic. My mother and the young man's mother serve in the same church unit. On several occasions, whenever he goes out for a job, his mother would call him back or redirect him for other errands, and she would even mention these things to my mother.
