How Nollywood actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot SAVED SUPER EAGLES WORLD CUP DREAM

It has been revealed that Nigeria Nollywood actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot used his political connections to arrange for a meeting with the country’s Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, who now directed a memo to be put up before the government could eventually release 100 million Naira for the NFF president Amaju Pinnick to sponsor the Super Eagles trip to Zambia for their 2018 World Cup qualifier match.

It is now recent history that the Super Eagles will go on to beat hosts Zambia 2-1 to go top of their qualifying group to Russia 2018.

A desperate Pinnick had made a last-ditch effort to get the senate to come to the Eagles rescue only days to the World Cup qualifier only to be met by a brick wall when he was told by the senate President to come up with accounts of the NFF’s sponsorship earnings since last year.

“Elliot is now a politician and also a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Surulere Constituency and it was he who brokered a meeting for Pinnick with the Vice-President,” a top government source informed only AfricanFootball.com

It was at this meeting that the Vice-President directed that an emergency memo be put up and routed through the sports minister who apparently refused to sign out the money due to unsettled issues with current NFF president and his board members.

“And that was how the government finally released 100 million Naira to the NFF for the World Cup qualifier.”

Dr.Ifeanyi Ubah, Asisat Oshoala foundation donates education aid and sporting items to primary school girls in Lagos (PHOTOS)


Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, the Chairman of Anambra State Football Association and owner of NPFL club, FC Ifeanyi Ubah has flagged off the much anticipated initiative called Football Made in Anambra which is aimed at raising one footballer from one family each in the state.

But yesterday the World celebrated "Girl Child Day", usually on this special day, highlights the need to develop the female gender especially in rural communities. Coincidentally, as part of celebrating the "Girl Child Day", Dr. Ubah teamed up with 2014 African Female Footballer of the year, Super Falcons and Arsenal Striker Asisat Oshoala to donate education aid and sporting items to pupils (girls) of the following schools in Lagos State; Yewa Primary School in Agege, Akilo primary school in Fagba, Sango Primary School in agege, Oko Oba Primary School in Iju.

The girl child is tender and very vulnerable, they deserve care and special attention which ranges from proper upbringing, sound education, guidance and counselling. Most times to give them the best, they need mentorship, which is proven to be one of the greatest teaching aide.

This is not the first time, this duo achievers are joining heads to achieve one common goal. Dr. Ubah , earlier announced that in December commencement of the Anambra Female Amateur League with the Ex-Liverpool star to be the Ambassador of this historic innovation that has come to stay.
Its a message of Love to all, the "Girl Child" needs proper orientation to help harness a future for our society. Remember they are potential mothers and we have to give them the best..

SPORTS MINISTER DALUNG BLASTS: NFF ARE PLANLESS, POOR MANAGERS, NO GOODWILL

Nigerian sports minister has fired a salvo at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after blasting them for planlessness, poor management and lacking goodwill.

Sports minister Solomon Dalung had to step in and ensure the government released 100 million Naira for the country to honour last weekend’s World Cup qualifier in Zambia after the NFF claimed they did not have the cash to do so.

The minister was most critical about what he described as “NFF’s fire brigade” approach.

“We must improve on the way we do things. We cannot be writing emergency memos to the President. Personally, I’m not too comfortable (with that). Memos should have gone out much earlier on,” Dalung said.

“That Christmas is on 25 of December, you don’t need anyone to fix that date for you. So, you start planning in January or you save enough to contain the demands in December.

“The economic situation (in the country) is not too friendly, but as I advised, if you have little money, you plan well. Management of resources is also very, very important.”

The top government official is equally disturbed that the NFF led by Amaju Pinnick do not have the goodwill to overcome some of their challenges.

“Everything is not all about money. The image of the federation is very, very important,” he reasoned.

“The NFF were founded in 1945 and if by now you don’t have goodwill, then something is basically wrong.

“People appreciate goodwill more than anything you can think of.”

How Dalung, Pinnick intervenes as Security Operatives attempts to shoot, arrest LMC Boss Shehu Dikko

League Management Company boss Shehu Dikko escaped being shot at and arrested by some security operatives after the team arrived by 11:32 pm at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja from their victory over Zambia in the World Cup qualifier match played on Sunday.

Shehu Dikko arrived in company of the sports minister Solomon Dalung and NFF President Amaju Pinnick when four men wearing plain clothes armed with handcuffs swooped on Dikko almost immediately. At a point in the drama one of the operatives shot into the air when the arguments heated up, before Dalung and Pinnick intervened.

According to an Eye Witness (Journalist)
Two men in mufti claiming to be police officers were waiting at the Abuja Airport as the Super Eagles delegation arrived from Zambia.The men, claiming they were from Jos Police Command, attempted to arrest Shehu Dikko but were foiled by NFF officials, club owners and media present.

Super Eagles players were hurriedly ushered into their bus and driven off for safety as the situation escalated.

One of the men pointed his side arm at Kelvin Omuojine as he took his picture and discharged the firearm in the air as other journalists gathered. His colleague also joined in with a drawn firearm as he threatened to shoot all of us journalists.


The LMC has been locked in a legal battle over the expulsion of Giwa FC from the just concluded Nigeria Professional Football league 2015/2016 season.
It has appealed a conviction of Shehu Dikko and Salihu Abubakar for contempt of court. More photos..

An outstanding display by the Super Eagles of Nigeria to beat Chipolopolo of Zambia 2-1 which is Nigeria's first against Zambia on home soil and therefore ended their 14 game unbeaten run in all competition.
Goals from Arsenal's Alex Iwobi (32 mins) and Manchester City wonder-kid Kelechi Iheanacho (42 mins) gave Nigeria a first half lead before veteran Collins Mbesuma pooled one back for the Zambians but that did not stop the Eagles from claiming victory as they got their World Cup qualifying campaign off to a winning start.

Meanwhile the Super Eagles players received their flight ticket refunds, match bonus for the AFCON qualifier against Tanzania last month as well as appearance fees for two friendlies in May against Mali and Luxembourg. It is estimated that a player who was involved in all three matches would have received close to $8,000 (over 3,600,000 Naira).

Rivers State Governor Wike splashes 500K Naira cash gift on Rivers United FC players, as Coach gets 1M Naira

Rivers State Governor His Excellency Ezenwo Nyesom Wike (CON) will host the players, coaching crew and management of Rivers Football Club who finished in second position on the table at the just concluded Nigeria Professional Football League, to a dinner grand reception.

The Governor who commended the players for qualifying for CAF Champions League next season, further announced that all players and management members of our club will receive five hundred thousand Naira each for their performance in the 2016 NPFL season. The technical manager and coach, Stanley Eguma will receive one million Naira for his exertions.

In addition, the Governor has announced a trip to Madrid, Spain for all players & officials for their pre-season preparations and has also approved that a brand new Luxurious Bus for the football club to be immediately released by the Commissioner of Transport.

This is very commendable and very necessary for the growth of our local Nigeria league...

Nigeria crashes out of 2016 FIFA U-17 Women World Cup in Jordan without scoring a single goal at the Tournament

African Champions. Nigeria U-17 Women football team otherwise known as "The Flamingoes" has crashed out of the on-going 2016 FIFA U-17 Women World Cup in Jordan without scoring a single goal after they were beaten 3-0 by North Korea. Ri Hae Yon scored a hat-trick for the North Koreans. Nigeria finished bottom of Group C (Group of Death) which also has North Korea (1st), England (2nd) and Brazil.

This could be the worst ever performance by Nigeria at International competition after they lost 1-0 to Brazil in their first Group C, followed by a goalless draw with England before loosing scandalously to the North Koreans.
Coach of the Nigeria team Bala Nikyu said the players did started well but lacked experience, looks unmotivated and lethargic.

Cameroon, Ghana and Nigeria were the three teams representing Africa at the competition but only Ghana went through to the quarter-final while Nigeria and Cameroon crashed out.

Mikel Obi ahead of Sunday World Cup Qualifying match against Zambia: I am now matured to lead the Super Eagles

Ahead of the all important Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying Group B match away at Zambia, Super Eagles of Nigeria captain John Mikel Obi has said he is now matured to lead the team.
“Sometimes when you are young, you make mistakes but the more you grow up, the more you know the things that are more important.
“I think that I am beginning to know where I come from and that is more important than anything.
“I have more responsibility now to lead the country and the team; I think that is what I am doing right now because I enjoy every bit of it,” he said.
The Chelsea midfielder said that the Eagles would use the opportunity of the World Cup qualifying matches to make up for not qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for two consecutive times.

Nigeria has won six of 16 previous matches (None of the 16 previous clashes was a World Cup qualifying match) with Zambia, drawing five and losing five. Nigeria defeated Zambia 5-4 on penalties to win a memorable Africa Cup of Nations final in Tunis in 1994. Zambia walloped Nigeria 5-1 in the first –ever encounter, a 1974 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match in Lusaka on July 15, 1973. Nigeria’s 3-2 win in the return leg in Lagos two weeks later was of no effect.

However, the Zambians have not beaten the Eagles in a competitive match in the past 31 years while Nigerian on the other hand have never beaten Zambians on their home soil.

As I was travelling in one of these Marcopolo Bus down to Lagos, before one of these mobile drug sellers started marketing this drug in the bus and made a serious claim that this is the best antibiotics drug (as he has done extensive research on all others including via the internet). NPFL Champions Rangers International FC of Enugu has said that their player Ifeanyi Egwim who broke his Tibia and Fibula in a very pitiable state during the line of duty in the 4-0 annihilation of El-kanemi Warriors on 2nd October 2016 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, has undergone a successful surgery. Well, the reason is not far-fetched as we can see from the pictures how the players bond together, feeling at home with the coach (now that's what I call team spirit just as we normally see in Europe especially in the English Premier League).
Swimming and having fun together amongst players and the coaching crew has proved to boost players morale and energy. The owner of the club Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah (CEO of Capital Oil and Gas) has been very tremendous in making sure that his players and staff are much comfortable. SOBER REFLECTION AT FORTY FIVE - Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah

It's been 44 long and hard years since my birth. The journey to where I find myself today has been rocky, to say the least. First and foremost, I would like to give all thanks and praises to my Father in heaven for the gift of life. His grace is the reason for my continued existence and all glory must be given to him. In the midst of all that currently defines the world we live in, God has been faithful, extremely faithful.

His blessings in my life are too many to mention, such that they cannot be enumerated. May I use this avenue to thank everyone who has contributed both positively and negatively to my journey through life. At 45, I feel very fulfilled. I count myself a man highly blessed by God in all ramifications, starting from family to friends to employees and to business associates, be it financially, cerebrally and otherwise. Today marks the beginning of my 45th year on earth, a day I have chosen to reflect on a country I love so much and a nation so blessed by God.

Inasmuch as I would have loved a birthday celebration bereft of publicity as I soberly reflect on the unflattering happenings in our dear country, I recognize the fact that I cannot restrain well meaning Nigerians who desire to wish me well via the pages of the newspapers and on different social media platforms. To these people, I wish to say thank you very much for the public display of affection. All efforts to put myself in a celebratory mood for reaching yet another milestone has proved abortive. I even had to take time off work to travel with my family as I needed to spend ample time with them as well as give myself some room to reflect in sobriety. If I am to be perfectly honest, in the midst of all the blessings God has so much bestowed on me, the current state of our nation Nigeria has rendered me an unhappy man.

* How can I be happy when all I see around me are people who are wallowing in hunger?
* What is happiness when my fellow Nigerians can no longer engage in business activities because of the escalating rate of the US Dollars which now exchanges for over N400 per Dollar?
* Where will happiness come from when Nigeria's inflation rate keeps rising and prices of common commodities are fast getting out of the reach of the average Nigerian?
* Nothing is being done to empower our women and some people are able to find happiness?
* Nigerians are losing jobs everyday and I am expected to find joy in celebrating? I cannot!
* It is just not possible as I sincerely believe there is nothing worthy of celebrating.
* My heart is heavy, saddled with so much to reflect on as thoughts on the way forward for our beloved country clouds my mind.
* In a country with over 180 million people, I can boastfully say we possess the capacity to turn this nation around.
* Nigerians are very resourceful and highly industrious. The fact that we have not been able to get it right after 55 (soon to be 56) turbulent years beggars belief.
* As Nigerians, we need to learn to work without greed. Contentment should be the underlying feature in everything we set out to do. * As a nation, we must fashion out a multi-policy intervention scheme that will not end up on the screens of our televisions and the pages of our books, but policies that will open up our system for job creation and reduction in the rate of poverty.

* Our problems are man-made and same man who made it can make things right. But first, those saddled with the responsibility of steering the ship of our nation must favour a government of inclusion.

They must open the doors to Nigerians (irrespective of one's ethnic or political leaning) who possess the requisite skills, knowledge and ideas on how to get Nigeria back on its feet. Earlier in the year, I came out to tell Nigerians that the escalation of the Dollar could be reversed if given the chance to proffer solutions and I meant it.

I also challenged the Government of the day to do the needful which entailed making consultations which I offered on a platter, even staking my life's work to see that this ugly trend is reversed. Regrettably, my advice was not heeded to and my calls fell on deaf ears. Nigeria's current problem is beyond academics. It is also beyond the vocabulary technocrats are known to toss around. There are other components and qualities needed alongside the technicality associated with education to create the right mix as we seek solutions to the poor state of our economy. I believe that I am one Nigerian who possesses some of these components. I am highly confident in my ability to provide answers to most of the problems Nigeria is faced with and hopefully, God will give me a chance if man would not. Permit me to state this loud and clear to avoid being misconstrued: when I discuss the public policies of the government or make suggestions on alternate policies for our government, it is because I want the government of the day to succeed as their success will make Nigerians happy.

I am a Nigerian who derives joy in seeing our people happy. After all said and done, I wish to rededicate myself to the service of humanity. At this stage in my life coupled with the achievements I have made and the milestones I have reached, I believe it is high time I channeled all my resources (financially, intellectually and otherwise) to promoting humanity, starting from Nigeria with Anambra state being my first port of call. My biggest regret in life is that I have not been able to help humanity they way I would have loved to. We can never get things right unless we put conscious efforts into promoting humanity. In view of this, I pledge this day to continue serving humanity to the best of my ability and as the Good Lord permits.

At this juncture, I would like to expressly appreciate those who have made my journey through life a laudable one. First and foremost, special thanks must go to my wife and beautiful children who have been my firm pillar of support and strength throughout my journey. Your presence in my life has given me wings to soar as high as I can dream. For this, I remain eternally grateful to all of you.

Also, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my employees across all sectors that I am actively involved in which includes Oil and Gas, Media Publications, Sports, Construction, Agriculture to mention a few. Your belief in me has never wavered and your support for me has stood the test of time. Even at the most difficult of times, you all rally around me, giving me the needed assurance that we are in this race together. My belief in the depth of God's love for me and his immense blessings upon my life stems from you all. Thank you.

To my friends and well wishers, I wish to also say thank you for being there. Your prayers and words of support have gotten me this far and I would not trade you all for anything the world has to offer.

To Ndi Anambra, umu nwannem, this piece would be incomplete without expressing the depth of my gratitude to you for all the love and support you ceaselessly showered on me. How can I forget my humble beginnings? How can I forget how my beloved brothers and sisters contributed immensely in shaping the man "Ifeanyi Ubah" and all he has achieved today? From the bottom of my heart, I say daalu umu nnwannem. Let us endeavour to keep our leaders in our prayers as we continue in our quest for greatness.
My fellow compatriots, our strength lies in our togetherness. Let us keep praying for Nigeria and her leaders. Let us keep believing in our country and strive to ensure that we make the best out of our nation. We have no other country to call our own. We must make Nigeria great for ourselves and for the generations yet unborn.

To our leaders, I wish to remind you all that the position which you find yourselves in today is God given and has a mandate attached to it. I implore you all to do all you can to better the lives of those who voted you into power. The welfare of the masses is paramount and the betterment of their living standards should be the driving factor behind every action of every leader. In everything we do, we should always remember that a day of reckoning will come and we will all be made to answer to the creator. On that day, would the Almighty be happy with your report?
