I remember when I was applying for American visa and the guy who was to grant the visa was like wow! Won’t you like to work for CNN? I told him hell no why would I want to do that? I am Funmi Iyanda from Nigeria and my people love, admire and respect me. My life is about that. My life is about relationships.

I was put here to do a job, I know that and I know my strength is the ability to convince people because I myself in my heart am convinced about the things am doing. So because of that, I try to communicate issues using all kind of media. My intentions are generally to do something that will make a difference in my society… If I say God is a God of order, am I now doubting that he created me in Nigeria for a purpose? What else will I be doing rather to make my life meaningful so I can go back to where I came from fulfilled?

NO. They did not offer her any job.

Their star, Anderson Cooper, applied for his job. Even, if she applied, she would never get the job

You can sit your arse in your run down ghettoish 'agbole' in Nigeria believing that CNN offered Funmi Iyanda a job or you can believe the truth that she was never offered the job.

The Vasileva  ypu keep talking about, just watched er on Youtube, is way better than Iyanda. I just dont get your point.

You and I know that there is nothing wrong in networking, By the way were you there when she dropped it like its hot? Do you know how VIP Amanpour has serviced?
First of all, she is a Muslim. That doesn't mean she is not slutty, but she isnt that hot for any VIP to want to sleep with her? Why would Blair or another international VIP want to sleep with her? Doesnt make any sense at all. And she is married with kids.

Secondly, even if she is sleeping around, at least she isnt sleeping with low-lives like Odegbami and Afikuyomi? Wanna compare Odegbami or Afikuyomi to the kind of people Amanpour sleeps with?

Furthermore, Amanpour is a brilliant presenter/reporter. Try watching her documentaries? And when she reports? She was in Afghanistan, Iraq and in Kuwait. She has gotten this far on her own merit. Can we same the same thing about Funmi Iyanda? Do you even know how Funmi got a 'New Dawn?'

Lets not go there, please.

Okay, maybe she said it the wrong way, the Nigerian arrogant way.
But well . . . it is her decision to make. Besides, she has her own show on Nigerian TV, which gives her income and exposure.
Why would she want to give that up to be a programmes announcer or newscaster on CNN? She's hardly a youngin anymore, and she would have to compete with a lot of fresher, younger, and smarter people. At her age, that would be foolhardy.
The truth is that CNN wont even touch her with a pole as long as the one they used to separate the red sea

Do you even know the kind of people that work for CNN? With 'breadi agege' accent? Me thinks not.

Daniel ‘sold' Olumo rock before leaving office, says Amosun
By Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji
June 29, 2011 12:38AM
print email

Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun yesterday told an audience of shocked traditional rulers that his predecessor, Gbenga Daniel had "sold" the famous Olumo rock to a private manager under a concession arrangement that would last fifteen years.

Mr Amosun dropped the bombshell while addressing the state's traditional rulers at the Oba's Complex located at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, which is a stone throw to the governor's office. He also informed the gathering that due to the debt inherited by his administration, his government might not be able to pay the N18,000 minimum wage.

"The number one tourist centre in the state, ‘Olumo Rock' was concessioned for 15 years," Mr Amosun told the royal fathers "Other state resources are concessioned for between 25 and 60 years. I begin to wonder why somebody will sign all our patrimony. To make matters worse, all of them were made without the laid-down procedure. It did not go through the State Executive Council, not even the Assembly." He, however, said his government was resolved to look into all of these and review them.

"If it affects any of you our Kabiyesi, it is nothing personal, it is about the state. I am not here to witch-hunt anybody," he said.

Lamenting the financial position of the state, the governor added that the legacies of the founding fathers of the state had been handed out by the last administration, saying the state government's property on Victoria Island was leased out for 60 years.

He, however, disclosed that he was not interested in probing his successor.

"I am not interested in any probe. I don't want to use my good time to chase what I know is bad. They said they left N50 billion. They are looking into our debt. But at the appropriate time, we will tell you what we met on ground," Mr Amosun said. "I will even be happy if what we met on ground is N50 billion. Ogun is the most indebted state in Nigeria. Lagos borrowed N250 billion and Rivers is N150 billion. Lagos generates N30 billion per month. Rivers generates between N12 and N15 billion. What we generate is N900 million to N1 billion and you have a loan of N50 billion."

Mr Amosun said the financial position of the state is bad and that the state needs to borrow about N4 billion to pay its salaries.

"If civil servants wants N18,000 minimum wage, we will have to borrow about N6 billion. All our assets have been concessioned," he said.

Ready for correction

He also dismissed the power plant project embarked upon by the Daniel administration, saying the technology behind the power project is 1970s.

"A totality of N15.9 billion has been expended on it. The state has paid 50 percent to contractors and the percentage of work is just 20 percent. They are refurbished and to think that those are the asset that put us in debt. I know it is bad, I never imagined it is this bad."

He said he decided to address the traditional rulers to carry them along in the business of governance. He said his administration would renew the urban areas, which will affect some buildings.

"We will be stepping on toes in trying to rebuild the state, but we have to," he said. "In all we do, we will not allow our people to suffer. We will provide alternative. It is not to demolish for demolishing sake, our people have suffered a lot, we will not add to their problems. We will take briefing from you. When we veer off the track, feel free to correct us."

Expensive schooling is not equal to "posh education"

You can never compare a graduate from any Private University in Nigeria to other graduates from 1st generation Federal Universities like OAU, UNN, UNLAG, e.t.c

Those 1st generation Federal Universities are far batter.

Some parents just spoil their children in ignorance.
Ignorance! ignorance!! Ignorance!!!

All the electrical engineers from Convenant University that I know are way more brilliant and well educated than the ones from Unilag that I have come across. And they all got good jobs after graduation. Most working for multi-nationals.

Keep your stupidddddd ignorance to yourself. You dont have to rubbish other people just to make yourself feel good. Your narrow experience doesnt equal reality.

LOOK. frankly i dont agree with the poster. why do we compare ourselves with the UK and US all the time. we have different cultures and ways of life. Did you know that in India it is considered very OK to live in your parents house even when you are married,
It is OK in the Muslim world too. Arabs do that all the time.

your wife just simply moves in with you. will you call those spoiled children not leaving the harnesses of their parents. no! look in Nigeria, the culture of drivers and house-helps in there but it is not in other countries, will you say because rich children in UK dont have maids then Nigerian children are spoiled, no! its just a different culture.
Unfortunately, your education has failed you. Sorry to be so blunt.

In the UK and US, labour, any kind of work at all, is respected. People are paid by the hour. You can employ slaves in the US, as long as you are willing to pay them by the hour and NO, your househelp cannnot double as your driver. And, you have to provide health insurance for them and you also have to register your business, because you are employing labor, in a way, and you cannot abuse them. The point is that, there are measures in place to prevent abuse and penal servitude. That is why it is more difficult in the US/UK to employ 'slaves' for yourself, let alone your spoilt kids. This same oyinbo people go to third world countries and maltreat people anyhow, just like your parents.

I dont consider myself a very rich teenager but, I did grow up with lots of perks like drivers house-helps and holidays abroad, and now that i'm schooling in the US i realize that those things I had like maids and such is a foreign concept to even the rich here. but that does not mean i was unnecessarily spoiled or when i traveled business class, my parents were doing me an injustice.
Well compared to the average Nigerian, including yours truly, with no parents to drive them to school, no after school tutoring, endless hawking after school, you have it made, WELL MADE actually for emphasis. The AVERAGE Nigerian doesnt even know what a plane is and would not understand if you were to explain business-class/economy class to them. So you are not average at all and you are spoilt.

Look summer jobs are not easy to get in Nigeria. with the countries unemployment level, it is hard for an inexperienced teenager to get a job over the summer. in the US it is different, there are actually some jobs designed for young people.
That is the typical excuse of a spoilt child. First of all, there are no summers in Nigeria. And especially in a country like Nigeria situated very close to the equator, the world wags wearily through an unending display of monotonous greenery. That said, people still find jobs to do when they are on 'long holidays.' ( I really doubt you went to school in Nigeria). Anyway, on long holidays, people, the average Nigerian student, work at printing press, construction sites etc to help our parents out. You didnt have to do it of course, which is fine, but the notion that there are no jobs in Nigeria, unlike your US, is just baloney. Stop feeding us lies.

i think it is balanced, in western countries life is easier in the day to day sense (traffic, electricity) so the perks that Nigeria's rich kids get is too balance out these things,
Very unfortunate that with your education and privileged lifestyle, you have it difficult to express yourself clearly. :::SMH:::

I have always maintained that the bulk of 'our elites' schooling abroad are the worst amongst us intellectually. I have no doubt in my mind that the reason you are schooling outside of Nigeria for your college education is because you could not make it into Nigerian schools, 'out competed' by the not-so-privileged lower class students.

if a parent wants to give their kids the world, let them, there are far more spoiled disrespectful kids in these countries you are comparing Nigerian to. kids who get far more and who are worse of because of their wealth in their ability to do things themselves so dont compare all of Nigeria's elite kids with a few rich western kids. if you look at all of them as a whole you will see that Nigerians still raise their kids better
No, Nigerians raise their kids worse. You watch too many TV. TV/Hollywood is not western culture. If you actually take your time to understand the upper class lifestyles in the west, you'd realize how stupidddddd your conclusion is about them. Upper class westerners are the most cultured people you will ever meet in your life and they put a lot of effort into raising their children, teaching them morals, and instilling discipline and hard-work in them.
For starters, compare compare Chelsea Clinton to her counterparts in Nigeria. Look at the kids of Bill Gates, Richard Branson, Trump and compare them to what we have in Nigeria.

With my tough Unilag upbringing, it was easy for me to have an A in accountancy (and even top the class) with moderate effort despite I had never studied accounting b4.

Although in sincerity, I had written an open book test b4 while in 9ja doing M.Sc. I guess the lecturer allowed us because it a mathematical modelling course.

In addition, do not compare the lecturers in both countries. Some talk theories alone with hardened faces while other give real life examples (with personal experiences) in a friendly atmosphere.
I can't understand why they say our standard of education is low I will continue to disagree and will always disagree, now come to think of it, here you cannot use your text books during an exam we call it malpractice but over there like in the us they are allowed to do that, and many still fail. here we have to read like mad people for a simple test and most times no teacher is ready to tell you'' you have a test on friday so prepare for it'' They come with impromptu test.
I can't understand how someone who came to Naija after studying in  the us will not be able to cope here, at least I had many classmates who were schooling there ''the so called high standards'' but when they come here ''low standards'' they cannot cope, they come out bottoms in class always as no one drags it with them, so I begin to wonder person wey no know 1=1 how you wan carry solve algebra? undecided
Also if you notice you will see that some one who made a third class here in Naija will go over there and make a fist class,  I think its the foundation. all we have to do is invest in facilities of our schools and we can be the best.  cheesy   I know a lot of you will disagree with me but its okay, but still you should just think about it  cheesy
I agree with you. You are totally right. Education is the US is a joke, effing joke. Before I came here, i was a dullard, couldnt spell, couldnt write couldnt do shit. I took WAEC 6 times, failed. My last one, I had 2 Cs 5 Ps and 3 F9s. And, my JAMB, dont even go there. Actually, lets go there, I took it 5 times, 120, 110, 90, 199, and 112. I was a terrible student in Nigeria, but a very hardworking one. Anyhow, after I 'rapala, come here, things have been different.

I took SAT, got 2399/2400, missed perfect score by one point, made 3.99/4.00 in my Engineering class from an ivy, a rhode scholar at Oxford where I finished a 2- yr masters in 7 days without even studying and yes all most of  exams were open book and the rest  I did online.

I agree with you exam in Nigeria is hard and the standard is extremely high. So high that I am beginning to think that we have one of the best systems in the world. And talk about the innovations we have been able to achieve with our 'high' educational standard. We too much mehn.

OP: I take 'ori iya e and baba e' beg you, please if you do have an opportunity to school in the US or UK, please dont come o. Their standard of education is very low, so low, I have no doubt that you'd score a perfect score on their SAT and you'd stroll through their best colleges with ease. Who born maga?

We have Wole Soyinka, what do they have? Nada.

We the best OP

We the effing best in the world.

Our colleges are the effing best in the world.

PS: On a more serious note,  a child who has never ventured out to see any other farm will always think that his father's farm is the biggest in the world, says our elders.

And WRT your comment about open book exams, you are definitely right. Its all open exams from kindergarten to Ph.D. what do I know?

Utah's bigamy statute is unique. It reads: "A person is guilty of bigamy when, knowing he has a husband or wife or knowing the other person has a husband or wife, the person purports to marry another person or cohabits with another person."

The law applies not just to people who have obtained multiple marriage licenses, but also to those who are legally married to only one person, while engaging in other marriage-like relationships.
