Dumb. I clearly indicated i was referring to MALES. But of course dont let that distract from your scouring of the internet to sound "intelligent".
Sound intelligent? Well it is the frigging internet. Anyway, I am not a lab rat, just an ignoramus with access to the internet grin

Males with AIS DO NOT develop male gonads despite having XY chromosomes, i made that perfectly clear.
Of course, you are always right, not just good at making your points clear the first time. grin

1. DHEA and testosterone are NOT the same. Check any biology textbook. DHEA will NOT bind to an androgen receptor (in this case the testosterone receptor). I think in your haste to sound "smart" you confused DHEA with DHT (dihydrotestosterone - it has a higher binding affinity to the testosterone receptor than testosterone itself).
So it is IMPOSSIBLE for DHEA by itself to cause mullerian involution.
Of course, in the most purest form, they are not the same , but I admit, I made a mistake in my rush to post. I already gave up on this thread, but I could not pass on that. I wanted to write DHT.

That having been said, DHEA is the precursor to testosterone, that is why you have ambiguous geni/ta/lia in kids with 21 OH deficiency; from pregnelolone to progesterone to DHEA to DHEAS and androstenedione  to testosterone and to estradiol via the aromatase enzyme

2. You said EXACTLY the same thing as i said. AIS is caused by the inability of the embryo cells to respond to testosterone. In this case the embryo behaves almost as if testosterone is not being secreted by the fetal testes such that the embryo fails to develop male gonads.
Glad you are here to teach me what any ediot can easily find in every review book.  grin

3. You confused yourself here . . . production of testosterone by fetal testes is an ABSOLUTE requirement for the formation of the prostate, epididymis, seminal vesicles, vas deferens e.t.c. The anti-mullerian hormone is primarily responsible for mullerian involution (testosterone also does this partially). The anti-mullerian hormone is also secreted in the testes.
Confused myself? How? Did I say that testosterone isnt needed to cause the differentiation of the wolffian duct a la mesonephric duct and in the process also secreting MIF to involute the mullerian duct

I guess you have to say I am confused so you can look good to your fans on NL?  grin Its all good though.

compared to you, i'm a genius dude.
Well, to all Davidylan fans, lovers, potential lovers, friends, and admirers, DAVIDYLAN is a genius.

Very smart dude. Need I do more?

No it doesnt. you dont even understand it yourself. perhaps u shld buy a bio textbook and come back.
Biology textbook? Like Campbell Reece? Kadong? which one exactly would you suggest?

BTW, why buy a text book when I can just learn from you?

Dumb! Testosterone's key job is to drive the development of the reproductive organs like the testes and prostate in males. It is CLEARLY wired towards heterosexuality . . .
I thought it is aromatized in females to produce estrogen a la estradiol?

I learn new things everyday on NL. Thank God for smart people like you on NL. grin

In children born with androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS), the cells of the male gonads are unable to respond to testosterone. In such cases, those children do not develop male reproductive organs but end up with poorly developed external female Cores.
Are you implying that in AIS children/adults, there are actually male gonads?

I thought in the process of sex differentiation, testosterone, actually DHT acts to cause mullerian involution, but the failure of the primordial cells to react to mullerian duct inhibitors is what result into AIS, after all we all start off as  females.

Well, who am I to argue with genius like you

Dude . . . you just cant make this up. What schools did you attend?
Anyway, the whole AIS thingy detracts from your position, No?

Diezani Allison Madueke skipped NYSC

If President Goodluck Jonathan proceeds to nominate former petroleum minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke, to his incoming cabinet, one question she might answer during her confirmation hearing is why she failed to sign up for the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme after her graduation from the university.

Under Nigerian law, fresh graduates under the age of 30 must sign up for a year of national service in a part of the country different from their places of origin. The service year serves as a demonstration of patriotism to the Nigerian state. No one who skipped the compulsory national service, barring any exception, clearly stated in the law, may receive employment in Nigeria.

Mrs Allison-Madueke graduated in 1987 at the age of 27, with a degree in Architecture from Howard University in the United States. Since then, she has worked in the US and Nigeria, refusing to give a year of her working life to the Nigerian state as required of all graduate citizens. There is also no indication that Mrs Allison-Madueke got an exemption from the programme.

With speculations making the round that she might be returning to her former job in President Jonathan’s defunct cabinet, activists and lawyers are insisting that Mrs Alison-Madueke, had, by her action, contravened some provisions of the NYSC decree and had committed a criminal offense which could earn her a year in jail, a fine, or both. They are also contending that with her unpatriotic conduct, she has no moral right to occupy any public office in Nigeria or be cabinet minister.

“In my view, such a person is not legally and morally worthy to be appointed a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Bamidele Aturu, a Lagos based human rights attorney said.

“I recommend to the Senate not to clear any nominee for ministerial appointment, who has skipped the NYSC, bearing in mind that ministers should stand on a higher moral ground and be above board,” added Carol Ajie, an Abuja-based lawyer.

Olorunimbe Mamora, a senator, who represented Lagos East Senatorial District in the last National Assembly, admitted that previous senate endorsement of Mrs Allison-Madueke’s appointment would be a grave error if it was eventually established that she indeed skipped her national service.

“It probably happened in error. The senate would not deliberately take an action that is not in tandem with the constitution or that is wrong in the process of the confirmation hearing,” Mr Mamora said in a telephone interview. He wondered why security checks routinely done on all nominees for top political offices failed to reveal that the former minister did not carry out her national service.

The minister did not serve

Upon graduating from Howard in 1987, Mrs Allison-Madueke took up employment in a couple of American construction firms. She returned to Nigeria in 1993 but there are no records that the former minister, who has so far served in three different ministerial portfolios, signed up for the national service. On her return, Mrs Allison-Madueke joined Shell Petroleum from where she resigned in 2007 to take up her first political appointment as minister for transportation.

Mrs Allison-Madueke did not respond to phone calls or text messages seeking her comment for this story.

A criminal offence

According to Section 13 of the NYSC decree, Mrs Alison-Madueke has committed a criminal act.

“(A person) who refuses to make himself available for service in the service corps continuously for the period specified in subsection (2) of this section, is guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine of N2,OOO or to imprisonment for a term of 12 months or to both,” the Act states.

Spokesperson to the NYSC, who simply identified herself as Mrs Ani, directed enquiries on the matter at the Corp’s director general, Maharazu Tsiga, who could not be reached for comments.

But she explained that the youth service was compulsory for all graduates below 30 years of age, adding that the federal government has to take the lead role in prosecuting defaulters.

“If they are Nigerian graduates, then it is compulsory for them to serve provided they graduated before the age of 30. Why don’t you talk to my DG,” Mrs Ani said.

Saying the state should prosecute the former minister; Mr Aturu argued that President Jonathan is responsible for his nominations.

“The problem now is with the president who appointed the person. Who do you blame? It is the person who appointed him/her. Should you appoint a person who has committed a criminal offense?” Mr Aturu asked.

What is its intrinsic value to the survival of the human specie? The goal of heterosexuality from the begining of time has been procreation . . . what is the goal of homosexuality? and please no one bring bonobo monkeys here.
The goal of Homosexuality? Why should there be an obvious goal for homosexuality for us to accept it a natural phenomenon? What is the purpose of life?

Using Rijkaard's analogy, that to win a match, you just have to score one more goal than your opponent. For the human specie to survive, we just need to have more heterosexuals than homosexuals. And so far, that is exactly what is going on. As long as the balance continue to be in favor of heterosexuals, human specie will continue to survive. And with the rate at which world populations is increasing, maybe the goal of homosexuality is to peg the rate of increase of our species. Maybe, this is how nature tries to balance things off, who knows.

In trying to shape your argument around  the impact of homosexuality on our survival, you dont have to compartmentalize the issue between homos and heteros alone. You have to look at the big picture, including bringing bisexuals into the picture. Compartmentalizing the argument between homos and heteros alone is intellectual laziness IMO.

What is funny to me is that this is the argument that is used most prominently to force homosexuality down our throats. Interestingly, blacks are FAR LESS likely to promote homosexuality than whites, many of whom still retain racist ideas about blacks! When prop 8 failed in carlifornia, blacks got the brunt of the anger from the man-lover community. So much for their concern about "civil rights".
What does that have to do with anything. Present generation Blacks dont know much about their history and most of them have been brainwashed by mainstream media to see homosexuality as evil.

That having been said, the principle behind my analogy is what I will like you to focus on.

2. I stopped reading at the above in highlights - the easiest proof that homosexuality is NOT a "fact of nature" is that reproduction is impossible in such relationships. The goal of nature (if we are to believe evolution for 2 secs) is to ensure the survival of a specie. Homosexuality cannot have evolved as part of nature if not you and i would long have ceased to exist as a race. Its funny that a lifestyle that is supposedly a "fact of nature" depends on heterosexuality to survive!
So your claim, THE BREAD AND BUTTER OF it is based on a theory that is yet to be finalized? And yet you do know that the gratest invention of the last 50 yrs has been the 'birth' of molecular biology. What if tomorrow, someone is able to locate the genes that decide heterosexuality Vs. Homosexuality?

marrying 3 wives or choosing to Be Intimate with a minor going to be accepted as a "fact of nature"? Why are those crimes and homosexuality is a "fact of nature"?
So you mean marrying three wives isnt a fact of nature? So Abiola, marrying more than 4 wives, was unnatural? Fela? If being in a monogamous marriage is 'natural' how come around 70% of mean cheat, according to Kinsey?

And BTW, where is marrying three wives a crime?

With regards to your reference to pedophilia, lets just say, you misspoke. I want to believe you have more sense than that, at least, that is the impression I have been given

davidylan:
man-lover marriage doesnt affect you until your children are forced to accept it as natural in textbooks.
How is it not natural?

your child is forced to no longer use the term "father and mother" to describe the family anymore.
The words father and mother have meanings to you because you, like the rest of the world, have been conditioned to draw meanings from them, not because they have some intrinsic worth or special arrangement of the alphabets that make them sound more pleasant  or more positive than other words.

You just have to unlearn whatever positives you attach to 'father' and 'mother' and if possible accept that there isnt anything untoward in 'man-lover-lover.'  You have the power to choose how you perceive and draw meanings from words. And this is definitely, I suppose, the kind of deep awareness you'd rather have your children have. The awareness to decide how they draw meanings from happenings around them.

I would hate to have my child learn (by force) that being man-lover is ok.
Well, they have no option. Black people were deemed inferior to Whites not too long ago, they were not allowed in the Mormon Church, disenfranchised, just because some people felt, then, how you feel now. It is up to you to rise above petty discrimination, and accord everyone else the same rights, freedom, and happiness you want for yourself.

This has very little to do with you. It is about living and allowing others to live.  Because the essence of civilization isnt just about interacting with people that  look like you alone, it is not about hanging out only with people with thick accents in upscale NY grin, and definitely not about walling yourself off from people with different POV from yours. Ultimately, it is about tolerating other people.

Just as how some people have tolerated you, the least you can do is to pass it forward, tolerating others, even though you may not always agree with their lifestyle.

A LAGOS high court sitting in Ikeja yesterday remanded in custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the second son of the late business mogul, Bashorun Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, Deji, over an alleged N35.5 million fraud.

Abiola was taken before Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo for alleged stealing and fraudulent conversion. The EFCC alleged that Deji Abiola of the late prominent politician collected N35.5 million in 2008 from one Mr. Jide Jose, on the pretext of importing printing machines from Switzerland for him.

The anti-graft agency claimed that he never supplied the said machines to the complainant and had converted the money to personal use.

When the case came up for hearing yesterday, the EFCC counsel, Mr. Omeiza Adebola, asked the court to compel Abiola to take his plea and be properly arraigned. He also told the court that the matter had been before the court since September 2, 2010, insisting that the charge should be read to the defendant.

However, Abiola’s counsel, Mr. A. B. Kasumu, objected to his arraignment, arguing that they had just been notified about the process. Kasumu said the defendant who had been enjoying administrative bail granted him by the EFCC had come to court out of his own volition. He added that Abiola should be granted sufficient time to consult with his lawyers before taking his plea as guaranteed by the right to fair hearing.

Kasumu also asked the court to grant his client bail or remand him in EFCC custody pending the filing of the bail application to be heard at the next adjournment. The matter was adjourned till June 30, 2011 for Abiola’s arraignment.
