Denmark Orders Public Officials to Turn Off Their Bluetooth Due to High Risk of Being Spied on by U.S. IntelligenceThe Danish government has ordered public officials across Greenland and Denmark to deactivate Bluetooth on both professional and personal devices, citing increasing concerns about foreign surveillance capabilities. The move affects civil servants, police officers, and military personnel operating in national and territorial institutions. The directive, issued by Denmark’s military intelligence agency, reflects a growing focus on wireless security risks linked to Bluetooth technology. Authorities now view wireless accessories such as headsets, laptops, and smartphones as potential points of entry for remote eavesdropping and data interception. The Danish National Police’s IT department confirmed that Bluetooth must remain disabled on all devices “until Corporate IT announces otherwise,” referencing guidance sent to all departments in early 2026. The advisory applies to all Bluetooth-enabled hardware, regardless of whether devices are state-issued or personally owned. Denmark’s Intelligence Service Flags Wireless Vulnerabilities The Danish Defense Intelligence Service (Forsvarets Efterretningstjeneste) identified multiple risks associated with Bluetooth use. Reports indicate that these include vulnerabilities capable of allowing unauthorized access to nearby devices without user consent. Some attacks involve intercepting data streams from previously paired devices, raising alarms about the security of wireless communication in government settings. Media coverage in Ingeniøren highlighted the advisory’s immediate impact on routine workflows. Devices such as Apple AirPods, Bluetooth headsets, and tablets frequently used for field operations must remain disconnected from wireless accessories until further notice. Ingeniøren reported that the guidance was delivered uniformly across sectors, instructing officials to disable Bluetooth across all device categories, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other equipment used in both public and private settings. Fast Pair Vulnerability Raises Alarm Over Bluetooth Protocol A related article from Radar.dk points to a security flaw involving Fast Pair, a proprietary feature developed by Google that streamlines Bluetooth device pairing. Unlike standard Bluetooth protocols, Fast Pair establishes connections with minimal user interaction, which has raised concern about silent pairing and unauthorized device access. One comment cited in Radar.dk describes how certain devices can be turned into covert listening tools. Specifically, a vulnerability in the Airoha Bluetooth audio SDK was identified as allowing Bluetooth audio devices to pair without user approval. These exploits highlight a broader risk: even inactive or unpaired devices can be accessed if firmware is outdated or unsecured. Disabling Bluetooth on smartphones alone may not be sufficient. Experts cited in the same source noted that headsets and audio accessories should be powered off entirely or removed to reduce potential exposure Geopolitical Backdrop Includes Renewed u.s. Interest in Greenland The advisory arrives in the wake of renewed geopolitical interest in Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory with strategic relevance in the Arctic. In a public message issued in December 2025, former U.S. President Donald Trump revisited earlier claims over Greenland’s sovereignty, stating that the region would not be secure until under U.S. control. The comments, directed at Norway’s prime minister, were published widely and revived tensions that had first emerged in 2019. Though the Danish government did not link its Bluetooth directive to Trump’s statement, the timing has drawn attention. Greenland’s geographic position makes it critical for NATO operations and Arctic resource planning, adding strategic pressure to protect communications infrastructure within Danish jurisdiction. Military analysts have previously noted that wireless communications, including Bluetooth, pose a distinct threat in secure zones. With the capacity to intercept data from nearby devices, attackers may not require network access or physical proximity beyond signal range, particularly when using advanced antenna systems. Digital Sovereignty Concerns Grow Amid Reliance on U.S. Tech The Bluetooth ban has also reignited scrutiny of European dependence on U.S.-made technology. Though Denmark has not commented on specific hardware or software vendors, public reactions on Radar.dk questioned why national agencies continue to rely heavily on platforms developed by Apple, Google, and other non-EU companies. Some commentators argued that Bluetooth is only one layer of a larger security gap. Operating systems, cloud services, and software APIs controlled by U.S. firms remain embedded in government workflows across Europe, raising questions about data jurisdiction and long-term digital sovereignty Bluetooth technology is now common in critical tools, including hearing aids and medical devices. No exemption has been announced for such equipment. The directive’s broad scope has created uncertainty among public health departments and accessibility service providers, who must now navigate compliance without interrupting essential services. Security experts have emphasized that while turning off Bluetooth reduces risk, it does not eliminate it. Without accompanying firmware audits or tighter control over connected device policies, adversaries may still exploit other wireless protocols or embedded software. https://indiandefencereview.com/denmark-warns-officials-turn-off-bluetooth-us-spying-concerns/

"If Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% Tariff against all Canadian goods and products coming into the U.S.A.," Trump said on Truth Social. Imagine arrant nonsense. US President Donald Trump has threatened to slap a 100% tariff on Canadian goods if the country strikes a trade deal with China. "If Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% Tariff against all Canadian goods and products coming into the U.S.A.," Trump said on Truth Social. It is unclear what deal Trump is referring to in his social media post. Last week, Canada's Prime Minister Carney announced a "strategic partnership" with China, and agreed to reduce tariffs. At the time, Trump called the move "a good thing". But tensions between the US and Canada have grown in recent days, after Carney said in a speech in Davos that the US-led world order had been ruptured Carney also urged other "middle powers" to band together in the face of economic coercion by "greater powers", though he did not mention Trump by name. Trump responded to the remarks in his own speech the next day, saying: "Canada lives because of the United States." The US president also withdrew an invitation for Canada to join his new Board of Peace. On Saturday, Trump said in his social media post that if Carney "thinks he is going to make Canada a 'Drop Off Port' for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken". The BBC has contacted the White House and Carney's office for comment. Canada's US trade minister Dominic LeBlanc said in a statement: "There is no pursuit of a free trade deal with China." "What was achieved was resolution on several important tariff issues." LeBlanc said the government was focused on building a stronger Canadian economy and strengthening trade partnerships "throughout the world". Canada has been seeking to diversify trade away from the US, its largest trade partner, following the uncertainty caused by Trump's on-again-off-again tariffs. Under the agreement reached between Carney and Chinese President Xi Jinping last week, China will lower levies on Canadian canola oil from 85% to 15% by March, while Canada will tax Chinese EVs at the most-favoured-nation rate, 6.1% – down from 100%. The deal was seen as a breakthrough after years of strained ties and tit-for-tat tariffs, and could see more Chinese investments in Canada. Carney said the progress made with China sets Canada up "well for the new world order". https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy4qww3w72lo

President Donald Trump’s suggestion Tuesday that his Board of Peace “might” replace the United Nations is likely to compound concerns that the body meant to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza — and that he will indefinitely chair — will instead become a vehicle for him to attempt to supersede the body established 80 years ago to maintain global peace. Before Trump’s comments, some diplomats already had myriad concerns over the board’s possible membership and the fact a permanent seat is up for sale at $1 billion. Trump made the remarks before heading to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he faces mounting anger from NATO members over his insistence that the US should own Greenland The White House on Friday announced a “founding Executive Board,” including Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff and former British prime minister Tony Blair. And according to the charter draft, a copy of which was obtained by CNN, Trump will serve as indefinite chairman of the board, possibly holding the post beyond his second term as president. Trump will be replaced only due to “voluntary resignation or as a result of incapacity, as determined by a unanimous vote of the Executive Board.” A future US president can appoint or designate the US representative to the board in addition to Trump, a US official said. Trump has sent invitations in recent days to dozens of countries to join and is expected to host a signing ceremony in Davos on Thursday. A senior administration official said around 35 of the approximately 50 countries invited to join that ceremony are expected to attend. The official did not provide further details. Questions remain about which countries will actually join the board. Although some, such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, have confirmed their participation, others have yet to commit — and some, such as France, have declined. Russia and China invited Russia is among the nations invited to join, raising alarm about how a country actively waging war could be involved in an effort to secure peace. China and Belarus have also been invited. Trump told CNN on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin has “accepted” his invitation to join the Board of Peace. He acknowledged that Putin’s participation would be “controversial” but defended inviting “people that get the job done.” So he was invited,” Trump said. “He’s accepted.” But at a meeting Wednesday of the Russian Security Council, Putin did not commit to joining the board but said his Foreign Ministry would “study the documents” and “consult with our strategic partners.” He also floated using Russian assets frozen in the US to pay the $1 billion fee for a permanent seat and for further reconstruction of Gaza. “Putin would certainly use Russia’s membership on the Board of Peace to undermine the UN and, by extension, sow further divisions in America’s alliances,” said Robert Wood, a former deputy US ambassador to the UN. Putin is not a man of peace, and I don’t think he belongs in any organization with peace in the name,” British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said Tuesday. On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he has accepted Trump’s invitation to join the Board of Peace, even though he has openly fumed at the inclusion of Turkish and Qatari officials on the executive board for the implementation of the 20-point Gaza ceasefire plan. There are major concerns among some officials that the board’s broad charter is an attempt to replace the work of the UN, an organization that Trump has consistently berated. The charter draft, which was sent along with the invitations to join, does not even reference Gaza. The charter describes the Board of Peace as “an international organization that seeks to promote stability, restore dependable and lawful governance, and secure enduring peace in areas affected or threatened by conflict.” Trump on Tuesday seemed to confirm that intention as he took a swipe at the UN, saying his board “might” replace the international body. “The UN just hasn’t been very helpful. I’m a big fan of the UN’s potential, but it has never lived up to its potential,” Trump told reporters during a White House press briefing. “The UN should have settled every one of the wars that I settled. I never went to them. I never even thought to go to them.” On Wednesday, UN deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq said the organization “will continue to relentlessly work for peace.” He noted that “there have been any number of organizations … that have coexisted with the UN over the 80 years that the UN’s been in existence.” “It’s too early to tell what the Board of Peace will look like,” Haq said. “One thing we are aware of is, of course, that the Security Council has endorsed the Board of Peace strictly for the work on Gaza, and, of course, we continue to abide by that resolution.” He referred to a UN Security Council resolution passed last year that codified Trump’s 20-point plan on Gaza. Allies voice concerns France and Norway have declined to become members of the board for now, in part citing questions about how it would operate in conjunction with the UN. “The American proposal raises a number of questions that requires further dialogue with the United States,” Norwegian State Secretary Kristoffer Thoner said in a statement. “Norway will therefore not join the proposed arrangements for the Board of Peace, and will therefore not attend a signing ceremony in Davos.” https://edition.cnn.com/2026/01/20/politics/trump-gaza-board-of-peace-united-nations

US comments came in response to deal by Canada PM Carney to allow 49,000 EVs into Canada at 15 percent tariff, down from 100 percent Officials of the administration of United States President Donald Trump have said that Canada will regret its decision to allow imports of up to 49,000 Chinese EVs, and that those cars would not be allowed to enter the US. “I think they’ll look back at this decision and surely regret it to bring Chinese cars into their market,” US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on Friday at an event with other government officials at a Ford factory in Ohio to tout efforts to make vehicles more affordable. Canada in 2024 imposed 100 percent tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) following similar US duties. But on Friday, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a trade deal in Beijing that would allow in up to 49,000 Chinese EVs at a tariff of 6.1 percent on most-favoured-nation terms. That move has prompted alarm in the US that it could help China get a broader foothold in North America even as Washington takes an increasingly hardline on Canadian vehicles and parts. US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the limited number of vehicles would not impact US car companies exporting cars to Canada. “I don’t expect that to disrupt American supply into Canada,” he said. “Those cars are going to Canada – they’re not coming here.” The Canadian Embassy in Washington did not immediately comment Greer, in a separate CNBC interview, called Canada’s decision “problematic” and added, “There’s a reason why we don’t sell a lot of Chinese cars in the United States. It’s because we have tariffs to protect American auto workers and Americans from those vehicles.” As per the trade agreements announced in Beijing on Friday, Carney said he expects China to lower tariffs on its canola seed by March 1 to a combined rate of about 15 percent, down from 85 percent. Greer questioned that agreement. “I think in the long run, they’re not going to like having made that deal,” he said. Cybersecurity of vehicles Greer said rules adopted in January 2025 on vehicles that are connected to the internet and navigation systems are a significant impediment to Chinese vehicles in the US market. “I think it would be hard for them to operate here,” Greer said. “There are rules and regulations in place in America about the cybersecurity of our vehicles and the systems that go into those, so I think it might be hard for the Chinese to comply with those kind of rules.” In contrast, President Donald Trump has said he would like Chinese automakers to come to the US to build vehicles. However, lawmakers from both major US parties have expressed strong opposition to Chinese vehicles as major US car makers warn China poses a threat to the US car sector. Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno, a Republican, said at the event he was opposed to Chinese vehicles coming into the US — and drew applause from the other government officials “As long as I have air in my body, there will not be Chinese vehicles sold the United States of America — period,” Moreno said. https://www.aljazeera.com/amp/economy/2026/1/16/us-says-canada-will-regret-decision-to-allow-chinese-evs-into-their-market

President Donald Trump on Friday threatened to place tariffs on nations that do not go along with his ambitions to annex Greenland. Trump said at a White House meeting that he "may put a tariff on countries if they don't go along with Greenland", which is a self-governing territory that is controlled by Denmark. He did not say which countries might be hit with new tariffs, or what authority he would invoke to use tariffs in pursuit of his goal. Along with Denmark and Greenland, other countries oppose his ambitions, and many in the US have expressed scepticism about an acquisition. As Trump spoke, a bipartisan congressional delegation was visiting Greenland to show support for the territory. The 11-member group included Republicans who voiced concerns about the president's calls for the US to somehow acquire Greenland for national security reasons. They met MPs as well as Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and her Greenlandic counterpart Jens-Frederik Nielsen. Group leader Senator Chris Coons, a Democrat, said their trip was to listen to the locals and take their views back to Washington "to lower the temperature". Trump has said Greenland is vital for US security - and the US would get it "the easy way" or "the hard way" - a reference to ideas to buy the island or take it by force. "I may put a tariff on countries if they don't go along with Greenland, because we need Greenland for national security," Trump said at the White House meeting on rural healthcare. Greenland is sparsely populated but resource-rich and its location between North America and the Arctic makes it well placed for early warning systems in the event of missile attacks and for monitoring vessels in the region. The US already has more than 100 military personnel permanently stationed at its Pituffik base - a facility that has been operated by the US since World War Two. Under existing agreements with Denmark, the US has the power to bring as many troops as it wants to Greenland. But Trump has said the US needs to "own" it to defend it properly against possible Russian or Chinese attacks. Denmark has warned that military action would spell the end of Nato - the trans-Atlantic defence alliance where the US is the most influential partner. Nato works on the principle that allies have to aid each other in case of attack from outside - it has never faced an option where one member would use force against another. European allies have rallied to Denmark's support. They have also said the Arctic region is equally important to them and that its security should be a joint Nato responsibility - with the US involved. To this end, several countries including France, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands and the UK have sent a limited number of troops to Greenland in a so-called reconnaissance mission. French President Emmanuel Macron said "land, air, and sea assets" would soon be sent. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c9qpy952xvno

Joe Keshi, Nigeria’s former permanent secretary and minister of foreign affairs, has cautioned that the United States (US) is specifically targeting the flow of global remittances, with its latest crackdown banning 75 countries including Nigeria from obtaining immigrant visas. Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, he warned that Nigeria must develop a systematic strategy to engage Washington, calling on Nigeria’s federal government to urgently “reflect and understand” the motivations behind the crackdown. The veteran diplomat highlighted the potential for a domestic economic crisis if these financial pipelines are constricted. “If we annually receive over $24 billion from Nigerians abroad and remittances are targeted, that is a staggering sum Nigeria stands to lose,” Keshi remarked. He further warned that many Nigerian families reliant on these funds could “fall below the poverty line” should the flow of capital be disrupted by the new policies by the United States (US). According to him, there’s a need for proper coordination to find out what Trump has against Nigeria. “A couple of days ago, he said that 30 percent of Nigerians are living off the state which is untrue. Many Nigerians in the US are hardworking and have two to three jobs”, he said. The move is expected to affect travel, migration and international relations. A crackdown on ‘public charges’ The ambassador’s warnings come as the US Department of State announced an indefinite suspension of immigrant visa processing for nationals from 75 countries including Nigeria. The move represents a significant escalation in President Donald Trump’s efforts to restrict legal pathways into the US since his return to office. The State Department justified the measures on Wednesday, framing the policy as a necessary step to “end the abuse” of the American system. Officials argued that the restrictions are designed to prevent foreign nationals from “extracting wealth” through the use of welfare and public benefits. Scope of the new restrictions While the full list of the 75 affected nations remains classified, the order is scheduled to take effect on January 21. Key details of the policy include: Public charge rule: Potential immigrants deemed likely to become a “public charge” will be ruled ineligible. Procedural reassessment: Marco Rubio, US secretary of state has ordered a pause to reassess vetting procedures to prevent “exploitation” of the US social safety net. Selective suspension: The freeze applies specifically to immigrant visas. Non-immigrant categories, including temporary tourist and business visas currently remain unaffected. Existing bans: This new measure builds upon previous restrictions already placed on citizens from Brazil, Iran, Russia, Somalia, and Afghanistan. National security and economic fallout The administration’s shift toward more aggressive vetting follows a security incident in November involving an Afghan national in Washington, DC. In the aftermath, the White House banned or restricted entry for nationals from 19 countries, a list that has since expanded to include 24 nations and holders of Palestinian Authority documents. The implications for these nations are severe; not only are new visas on hold, but asylum cases, citizenship processing, and green card applications have also been frozen for the countries initially targeted. For Nigeria, the concern remains primarily economic. As the Trump administration moves to “protect the generosity of the American people,” the resulting friction may significantly diminish the billions of dollars in private capital sent back each year. https://businessday.ng/news/article/us-visa-ban-seen-threatening-nigerias-24bn-remittance-inflows/

US places 25% tariffs on Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya and 2 others doing business with IranA new US trade warning aimed at countries trading with Iran is putting several African economies under pressure, as Washington signals it is willing to escalate tariffs and review preferential trade access for partners it views as misaligned with its foreign policy objectives. #This policy shift impacts African nations by potentially increasing export costs and threatening access to U.S. preferential trade agreements. #The United States has issued a warning targeting countries trading with Iran, proposing heightened tariffs on goods as a deterrent. #Recent data indicates growing trade relations between Iran and African nations, with a significant increase in exports on both sides. #Simultaneously, deteriorating conditions in Iran, including severe unrest, amplify the significance of these trade measures. The United States has issued a sweeping new tariff warning that could reshape Africa’s trade relationships, targeting countries that continue doing business with Iran at a time when Tehran is rapidly expanding its economic footprint across the continent. The move threatens higher export costs, currency pressure, and potential loss of preferential access to the US market for several African economies. Iran has been gripped by widespread unrest triggered by a collapsing rial and inflation nearing 40%. Protests demanding the fall of the country’s theocratic government have spread across major cities, while authorities have imposed near-total internet blackouts, limiting independent reporting. Reuters, citing the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), reported more than 500 deaths as of 11 January. A later update cited by CBS News put the death toll at at least 12,000, though figures remain difficult to independently verify. The action resulted in 34 arrests and significant disruptions to the group's activities. is a highly structured, hierarchical group with its origins in Nigeria and a global presence in dozens of countries. The core group of arrested suspects consists of 10 individuals of Nigerian nationality The criminal network is known for its involvement in a wide range of criminal activities, including cyber-enabled fraud, drug trafficking, human trafficking and prostitution, kidnapping, armed robbery and fraudulent spiritual practices. The group's annual criminal proceeds are estimated to be in the billions of euros, generated through many small-scale operations that collectively have a significant impact. Arrests and further investigations A total of 34 people were arrested in Spain, with 28 arrests carried out in Seville, as well as 3 in Madrid, 2 in Málaga and 1 in Barcelona. Investigators believe that the criminal network is responsible for fraud resulting in damages exceeding EUR 5.93 million. Over the course of the operation, authorities have frozen EUR 119 352 in bank accounts and seized EUR 66 403 in cash during house searches. The cross-border collaboration between Germany and Spain included Spanish investigators receiving analytical support, the exchange of intelligence, and the deployment of two German officers on-site during the action day. The operation targeted the core group of the organised crime network, which recruits money mules in impoverished areas with high unemployment rates. Most of these vulnerable individuals are of Spanish nationality and are exploited to facilitate the network’s criminal activities. This operation was supported by Europol through a range of services, including information analysis, a data sprint held in Madrid, and on-the-spot support. Europol has been instrumental in mapping the group's structure across countries, centralising information, sharing relevant intelligence packages, and supporting coordinated national investigations. This strategy aims to disrupt the group’s operations and seize assets, addressing the challenges posed by the group's dispersed small cases, cross-border activity, and the blurring of crimes into ‘ordinary’ local offences. Background on , formally linked to the Neo-Black Movement of Africa, is a highly structured, hierarchical group with a global presence. It divides its territory into approximately 60 zones in Nigeria and 35 abroad, with about 200 members per zone. In total, the organisation has roughly 30 000 registered members, and countless affiliated individuals such as money mules and facilitators. The group enforces strict codes of conduct, violent and ritualistic initiations, and spiritual practices.

President Donald Trump of the United States has said he does not need international law, claiming that his powers are limited only by his own idea of what is right and wrong. In an interview with the New York Times, the US leader said the only limit on his power as president is “my own morality and my own mind.” He added, “It’s the only thing that can stop me. I’m not trying to hurt anyone. He said, “I do” when asked if his administration needed to follow international law, but then explained that “it depends on how you define international law.” Talking to the newspaper as his administration looks into “a range of options” to gain control of Greenland, Trump also stressed the importance of ownership. Ownership is really important,” Trump said, adding, “Because that’s what I feel is psychologically needed for success. “I believe that when you own something, you have a right that you don’t get if you just rent it or agree to a treaty. Ownership gives you certain rights and parts that you can’t get just by signing a paper.” Trump also said he did not think his decision to remove Nicolás Maduro as Venezuela’s leader would create a situation where China could take over Taiwan or Russia could take control of Ukraine. To justify the US’s attacks on Venezuela, Trump again claimed that Maduro was accused of sending gang members into the United States. “This was a real threat… You weren’t witnessing people rushing into China. You didn’t have drugs pouring into China. You didn’t experience all the difficult things that we have experienced. You didn’t open up the jails in Taiwan and let people come into China. No criminals were flowing into Russia.” He said he does not think Chinese President Xi Jinping will take control of Taiwan, “That’s up to him, what he’s going to be doing.” I let him know I would be very upset if he did that, and I don’t think he will do it. I hope he doesn’t. He might take that action once we have a new president, but I don’t think he’ll do it while I’m in charge.” Trump’s latest interview comes as tensions increase in the country, especially after ICE shot a woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday, which sparked large protests. This is also as the US relations with European allies worsen over Trump’s possible plan to take control of Greenland. https://dailypost.ng/2026/01/09/i-dont-need-international-law-to-act-trump-on-only-reason-he-can-stop/
