A Chinese citizen captured by Ukrainian forces during the fighting near the settlement of Bilohorivka in Luhansk Oblast has revealed that he joined the Russian military through an intermediary in China, paying RUB 300,000 [approximately US$3,480]. His motivation was the promise of Russian citizenship. He underwent military training in occupied Luhansk Oblast, where he had no interpreter, relying instead on gestures and a phone to communicate.

The department reported that during the fighting near Bilohorivka, soldiers from Ukraine's 81st Separate Mechanised Brigade captured three Russian soldiers, one of whom was a Chinese citizen.

He was taken prisoner during the hostilities when a Russian assault group, under fire from Ukrainian soldiers, including drone operators, chose to surrender.

According to the prisoner, he joined the Russian military through an intermediary in China, paying RUB 300,000 for the opportunity to enlist in the Russian Armed Forces.

He reported that he had received training in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk Oblast as part of a group of Chinese nationals. The training covered basic military skills and was conducted without an interpreter, relying on gestures and a mobile translator for communication

He stated that his primary motivation was the desire to become a serviceman and obtain Russian Federation citizenship. He also mentioned that some group members had legal issues in China.

Due to the language barrier, he was not fully aware of the situation during the assault. The group suffered casualties in the battle and, unable to continue resisting, chose to surrender.

The individual is currently cooperating with Ukrainian investigative agencies, and his identity and citizenship have been confirmed. He noted that his family was aware of his intentions to go to Russia, although he officially travelled as a tourist.

The communications department of the Luhansk Operational Tactical Group also emphasised that Ukraine strictly adheres to the provisions of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War. All necessary investigative and procedural actions are being carried out with the captured Chinese citizen.

One of the students affected from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, is Lisa said she was just a month away from graduation when she got an unexpected email, according to The Guardian UK.

“ISS is writing to inform you that your SEVIS record was terminated,” the email said. SEVIS stands for the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, which is managed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

At first, Lisa thought the email was fake. But after checking online and reading student forums, she found out she was now “out of status,” just like many other international students.


The reason? A minor traffic issue from the year before. She got two tickets and was fingerprinted when she went to court.

When a student’s SEVIS record is terminated, they usually have only 15 days to leave the US If they stay longer, they risk being deported or banned from coming back.

Other students in schools like Stanford, UCLA, UC San Diego, Ohio State, and the University of Oregon are also affected, says The Guardian UK

Many of them have similar stories. They got small traffic tickets, went to court, were fingerprinted, and had no idea their visa status would be affected.

Students made a spreadsheet online and shared stories from over 50 universities.

Even though many students did not commit any crimes—some charges were even dropped—they were still labeled as having “criminal records” in their SEVIS termination letters

Trump has in part justified his global wave of tariffs by saying he wants to revive manufacturing in the US. This is an argument Navarro made during an appearance on CNBC on Monday.

"If you look at our auto industry, right, we're an assembly line for German engines and transmissions right now," he said.

"We're going to get to a place where America makes stuff again, real wages are going to be up, profits are going to be up," Navarro added.

President Bola Tinubu has declared that the gunmen who killed many people in some communities in Plateau State will be apprehended and face severe punishment under the law.

This is just as the Northern States Governors’ Forum condemned the attacks, describing them as senseless and a threat to the unity and stability of the region.

Tinubu condoled with the families of the victims in Ruwi, Hurti, and Tadai communities in Bokkos Local Government and those from Manguna and Dafo villages, where the gunmen launched brutal attacks, killed many locals and destroyed property.

“I have directed security agencies to hunt down the attackers, and they will face severe punishment when apprehended,” Tinubu said in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday.

Over 1,400 protests against President Donald Trump and Elon Musk are expected across all 50 states on Saturday, organized by a pro-democracy movement in response to what they call a “hostile takeover” and attack on American rights and freedoms.

The “Hands Off!” mass-action protests will take place at state capitols, federal buildings, congressional offices, Social Security’s headquarters, parks and city halls throughout the entire country – anywhere “we can make sure they hear us,” organizers say.

the movement in collaboration with a nationwide coalition that includes civil rights organizations, veterans, women’s rights groups, labor unions and LGBTQ+ advocates.

Organizers say they have three demands: “an end to the billionaire takeover and rampant corruption of the Trump administration; an end to slashing federal funds for Medicaid, Social Security, and other programs working people rely on; and an end to the attacks on immigrants, trans people, and other communities.”
