On Monday, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said the recent "protests and criminal acts directed at foreign nationals" did not reflect government policy, describing them as "isolated acts of criminality". How is xenophobia isolated, Ramaphosa will say this is the first killing from xenophobic myopic despotic southafricans. If Ramaphosa can't go after leaders of the anti-immigrant group then his government is complicit. Corruption is what is plaguing SA as politicians are embezzling poor black southafricans money and blaming immigrant for their poverty. |
Ghana says it will evacuate 300 citizens from South Africa following a recent wave of protests against foreign nationals. Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said in a post on X on Tuesday that the Ghanaian president had granted approval for their "immediate evacuation". He said the "distressed" Ghanaians had registered at the country's embassy in Pretoria to be rescued in response to an advisory by the foreign ministry "following the latest wave of xenophobic attacks". Last week, South African authorities denied that anyone had been attacked, saying the widely circulated videos were fake.Thousands of South Africans joined protests against illegal immigration, demanding the mass deportation of undocumented foreign nationals. Protesters say illegal immigration has had an impact on jobs, housing and crime. On Tuesday, the Ghanaian embassy in South Africa advised nationals to be highly cautious and prioritise their safety by avoiding public gatherings and shut their shops or businesses in the port city of Durban ahead of a protest planned on Wednesday.Ghana and Nigeria have recently summoned the South African envoys to their respective countries over the mistreatment and harassment of their citizens. Ghana has also written to the African Union (AU) asking it to discuss the issue, saying it posed a "serious risk to the safety and wellbeing" of Africans in South Africa. South Africa responded by saying it had "nothing to hide". The government has condemned the circulation of what it called "fake videos and images" described by some as recordings of attacks on foreign nationals. Other countries that have warned their citizens in South Africa include Kenya, Malawi, Lesotho and Zimbabwe. According to official figures, South Africa is home to more than three million foreigners, or about 5% of the population, but there are believed to be many more without papers. Xenophobia has long been an issue in the country and has been accompanied by occasional outbursts of deadly attacks. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cedpv17gqqzo

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni, 81, has been sworn in for a record seventh consecutive term following his landslide victory in disputed elections in January, extending his tenure as one of Africa's longest-serving rulers. What a joke, I now understand why Tupac said. Feeling black is like a curse. After spending years in office and achieving nothing Museveni wants to go back to the same office and see what he can do at 81. With dwindling intelect His 51-year-old son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the military chief, has been widely tipped as a potential successor. If muhoozi should take over from his dad then Ugandans will be first class zombies. |
Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni, 81, has been sworn in for a record seventh consecutive term following his landslide victory in disputed elections in January, extending his tenure as one of Africa's longest-serving rulers. Heavy security, including armoured tanks, were deployed in the capital, Kampala, ahead of the inauguration in what police said were measures intended to maintain public order. Museveni told the crowd that his new term should be regarded as a time for "no more sleep for all Ugandans". He added that people should focus on creating more wealth and jobs - and build on the progress made over last 40 years through the achievement of peace and the development of infrastructure. Museveni was declared the winner of the election with more than 70% of the vote, with his term expected to end in 2031. His main rival, pop star turned politician Bobi Wine, rejected the result, saying the poll was marred by "ballot-stuffing". Election officials denied the allegation. The 44-year-old opposition leader, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, fled the country after the election, saying he feared that "the regime wanted to eliminate me". Museveni first came to power as a rebel leader in 1986 but since then has won seven elections. He is among the few African leaders in power for more than 40 years. Others include Congo-Brazzaville's Denis Sassou Nguesso, Equatorial Guinea's Teodoro Obiang and Cameroon's Paul Biya. The government declared the day a public holiday and the president's supporters thronged to the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala for the swearing-in ceremony. In his address, Museveni said that his government would would use revenue from planned oil production to grow the economy and alleviate poverty. African leaders who attended the ceremony included Tanzania's President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the Democratic Republic of Congo's Félix Tshisekedi, South Sudan's Salva Kiir and Somalia's Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. Uganda has one of the world's youngest populations, with majority of the people having known no other president. Museveni has not indicated when he intends to retire, but analysts say this is likely to be his last term. His 51-year-old son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the military chief, has been widely tipped as a potential successor. However, Kainerugaba has increasingly faced criticism for the way he uses social media to threaten the opposition, including Wine. On X earlier this year, he threatened to have Wine's testicles removed in posts that have since been removed. Wine, who leads the National Unity Platform party, said the results of the elections were "fake" and urged Ugandans to fight back for their democracy. The government insisted that the elections were free and fair, and Museveni accused the opposition of seeking to overturn the results through violence, calling them "terrorists". https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cqxp23272j3o

On Iran, the former casino owner is learning that he, in fact, doesn’t have such a strong hand after all.No wonder he's been behaving illogical. A gambler gambling away americas common wealth. Shame on Trump. |
Trump is beleaguered both by Iran's stubborn refusal to accept an agreement on his terms and dwindling approval from Americans who did not support the conflict WASHINGTON — One of President Donald Trump’s favourite metaphors is that he’s got the cards — that through the might of the United States and his own acumen he can overpower any adversary. On Iran, the former casino owner is learning that he, in fact, doesn’t have such a strong hand after all. As he travels this week to China on a trip already delayed by his war, Trump will not project strength as a victor but instead will remain beleaguered both by Iran’s stubborn refusal to accept an agreement on his terms and dwindling approval from Americans who did not support the conflict and are now paying higher prices at the pump. “I don’t see how the president has many, if any, good cards to play at this moment in time,” said Mona Yacoubian, director of the Middle East program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Trump joined Israel in attacking Iran on February 28, with strikes quickly killing the longtime supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and much of the other top brass. But Iran quickly hit back by exerting control over the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow passageway through which one-fifth of global oil once sailed, and it has rained missiles and drones on U.S.-allied Gulf Arab monarchies, shattering the oil-rich countries’ hard-earned reputation for stability. The United States would need massive force to dislodge Iran from the strait, which would cause major new havoc on global markets and new threats to Gulf Arabs, Yacoubian said. Iran’s cleric-run state ruthlessly crushed protests in January and is now dominated by the elite Revolutionary Guards, who are even less interested in compromise with the United States. “I think that the administration has fundamentally misjudged the character and the approach of the regime in Tehran,” Yacoubian said. Trump declared a ceasefire on April 8 and has indefinitely extended it, even as he was twice forced to abort trips by top U.S. officials to negotiate in Pakistan after Iran balked at attending. Trump last week announced “Project Freedom” in which U.S. forces would help ships through the Strait of Hormuz, before suspending the operation two days later as Gulf Arabs worried about coming under fresh attack. Trump then spent the weekend building anticipation for any Iranian response, only to declare Monday that Tehran’s counter-proposal was “garbage.” “Trump’s actions over the last month show a leader who’s very desperate to end this conflict, but he continues to threaten more conflict if he doesn’t get what he wants,” said Brian Katulis, a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute. “That shows that he simply does not know how to get a better deal. He could have gotten a better deal before the war began,” he said. Trump just last year had berated past U.S. leaders for Middle East interventionism and has described China as the main challenger to the United States. But he now arrives in China “with a much weaker hand,” Katulis said https://nationalpost.com/news/donald-trump-iran-war-cards

Yamal watch your back. Don't let ICE get hold of you in the world cup. |
Palestinians in Gaza, football fans from around the world and activists laud Barca and Spain footballer. Spanish football star Lamine Yamal has been hailed as “a very brave boy” for waving the Palestinian flag in Barcelona’s open-top bus parade following their La Liga championship win The 18-year-old held and waved a large Palestine flag as the newly crowned Spanish champions interacted with the thousands of Barca fans lined up on the streets in the Catalan capital on Monday, hours after their 2-0 El Clasico triumph over Real Madrid sealed their second consecutive first division league title Yamal, who looked relaxed as he stood along the rail on the right-hand side of the bus, missed Sunday’s fixture due to an injury, but joined his teammates in the champions’ parade the following day Video clips of his apparent act of support for the people of Palestine immediately went viral on social media, with football fans, experts, activists, and players praising the teenage icon “To some, it may look like a simple gesture, but here in Gaza, it reaches the heart in ways words cannot describe,” wrote Muhammed Akram, a Palestinian student in Gaza. “Thank you, Lamine Yamal. From Gaza, you are loved more than you know
Bravo Lamine Yamal’ Palestine’s flag has been raised by protesters and pro-Palestine activists in hundreds of cities worldwide over the past two and a half years. It is seen by many as an act of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, who have been facing the wrath of the Israeli genocide against them since October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian group Hamas attacked Israel Israel has killed more than 72,740 Palestinians since October 2023, of whom 854 were killed during a so-called “ceasefire” that was signed last October While the frequency of pro-Palestine protests has dropped since the “ceasefire” came into effect, activists have continued to raise the Palestinian flag in large public gatherings, such as sports events and celebrations. Yamal, too, used the mass celebration in Barcelona to show his support for Palestine, and some activists believe he has done more to raise awareness for the cause with one act than many others. “When you have a platform, use it,” wrote Lebanese political activist and writer Dyab Abou Jahjah. “When you have a voice, speak out. Bravo Lamine Yamal,” he added. Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick said he spoke to Yamal about the incident. “I spoke with him [Yamal] and told him: ‘If you want to do that, it’s your decision, you’re old enough,'” the German coach told the media on Tuesday.
