Foreign Affairs › Frustrated Trump Learns He Doesn't Have All The Cards In Iran War by Ironfaceman(op): 10:32pm On May 12 |
Trump is beleaguered both by Iran's stubborn refusal to accept an agreement on his terms and dwindling approval from Americans who did not support the conflict WASHINGTON — One of President Donald Trump’s favourite metaphors is that he’s got the cards — that through the might of the United States and his own acumen he can overpower any adversary. On Iran, the former casino owner is learning that he, in fact, doesn’t have such a strong hand after all.
As he travels this week to China on a trip already delayed by his war, Trump will not project strength as a victor but instead will remain beleaguered both by Iran’s stubborn refusal to accept an agreement on his terms and dwindling approval from Americans who did not support the conflict and are now paying higher prices at the pump. “I don’t see how the president has many, if any, good cards to play at this moment in time,” said Mona Yacoubian, director of the Middle East program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Trump joined Israel in attacking Iran on February 28, with strikes quickly killing the longtime supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and much of the other top brass. But Iran quickly hit back by exerting control over the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow passageway through which one-fifth of global oil once sailed, and it has rained missiles and drones on U.S.-allied Gulf Arab monarchies, shattering the oil-rich countries’ hard-earned reputation for stability. The United States would need massive force to dislodge Iran from the strait, which would cause major new havoc on global markets and new threats to Gulf Arabs, Yacoubian said.Iran’s cleric-run state ruthlessly crushed protests in January and is now dominated by the elite Revolutionary Guards, who are even less interested in compromise with the United States. The United States would need massive force to dislodge Iran from the strait, which would cause major new havoc on global markets and new threats to Gulf Arabs, Yacoubian said. Iran’s cleric-run state ruthlessly crushed protests in January and is now dominated by the elite Revolutionary Guards, who are even less interested in compromise with the United States. “I think that the administration has fundamentally misjudged the character and the approach of the regime in Tehran,” Yacoubian said. Trump declared a ceasefire on April 8 and has indefinitely extended it, even as he was twice forced to abort trips by top U.S. officials to negotiate in Pakistan after Iran balked at attending. Trump last week announced “Project Freedom” in which U.S. forces would help ships through the Strait of Hormuz, before suspending the operation two days later as Gulf Arabs worried about coming under fresh attack. Trump then spent the weekend building anticipation for any Iranian response, only to declare Monday that Tehran’s counter-proposal was “garbage.” “Trump’s actions over the last month show a leader who’s very desperate to end this conflict, but he continues to threaten more conflict if he doesn’t get what he wants,” said Brian Katulis, a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute. “That shows that he simply does not know how to get a better deal. He could have gotten a better deal before the war began,” he said. Trump just last year had berated past U.S. leaders for Middle East interventionism and has described China as the main challenger to the United States. But he now arrives in China “with a much weaker hand,” Katulis said https://nationalpost.com/news/donald-trump-iran-war-cards

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Lamine Yamal’s Palestine Flag Wave Hailed By Fans, Activists And Athletes by Ironfaceman(op): 6:27pm On May 12 |
Palestinians in Gaza, football fans from around the world and activists laud Barca and Spain footballer. Spanish football star Lamine Yamal has been hailed as “a very brave boy” for waving the Palestinian flag in Barcelona’s open-top bus parade following their La Liga championship winThe 18-year-old held and waved a large Palestine flag as the newly crowned Spanish champions interacted with the thousands of Barca fans lined up on the streets in the Catalan capital on Monday, hours after their 2-0 El Clasico triumph over Real Madrid sealed their second consecutive first division league titleYamal, who looked relaxed as he stood along the rail on the right-hand side of the bus, missed Sunday’s fixture due to an injury, but joined his teammates in the champions’ parade the following day
Video clips of his apparent act of support for the people of Palestine immediately went viral on social media, with football fans, experts, activists, and players praising the teenage icon “ To some, it may look like a simple gesture, but here in Gaza, it reaches the heart in ways words cannot describe,” wrote Muhammed Akram, a Palestinian student in Gaza. “Thank you, Lamine Yamal. From Gaza, you are loved more than you know Bravo Lamine Yamal’Palestine’s flag has been raised by protesters and pro-Palestine activists in hundreds of cities worldwide over the past two and a half years. It is seen by many as an act of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, who have been facing the wrath of the Israeli genocide against them since October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian group Hamas attacked Israel Israel has killed more than 72,740 Palestinians since October 2023, of whom 854 were killed during a so-called “ceasefire” that was signed last OctoberWhile the frequency of pro-Palestine protests has dropped since the “ceasefire” came into effect, activists have continued to raise the Palestinian flag in large public gatherings, such as sports events and celebrations. Yamal, too, used the mass celebration in Barcelona to show his support for Palestine, and some activists believe he has done more to raise awareness for the cause with one act than many others. “When you have a platform, use it,” wrote Lebanese political activist and writer Dyab Abou Jahjah. “When you have a voice, speak out. Bravo Lamine Yamal,” he added. Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick said he spoke to Yamal about the incident. “I spoke with him [Yamal] and told him: ‘If you want to do that, it’s your decision, you’re old enough,'” the German coach told the media on Tuesday. https://www.aljazeera.com/sports/2026/5/12/lamine-yamals-palestine-flag-wave-hailed-by-fans-activists-and-athletes

Foreign Affairs › Russia And Iran Use Caspian Sea Trade Route To Aid Tehran’s Drone Program by Ironfaceman(op): 9:45pm On May 11 |
Russia is using the Caspian Sea to ship drone components to Iran in order to help the Islamic Republic rebuild its offensive capabilities, the New York Times reported on Saturday, citing US officials.
The report stated that the Caspian Sea has now become a vital trade route between the two allies. Russia is now sending goods that would traditionally travel through the Strait of Hormuz to ports along the Caspian Sea.
Iranian officials have noted that the regime is seeking to open alternative trade routes due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. The report stated that there are currently four ports in the Caspian working day and night to bring in supplies such as wheat, corn, animal feed, and sunflower oil.
One Russian businessman went so far as to say that he believes that cargo tonnage in the Caspian could double by the end of the year.
“Against the backdrop of instability in the Middle East, Caspian routes to Iran look much more attractive,” said Vitaly Chernov, head of analytics for a company that tracks Russia’s maritime industry.
Russia, Iran use Caspian to evade sanctions
The report noted that trade in the Caspian Sea is difficult to track from a distance. Ships that regularly traverse it turn off their tracking, and only the five nations that border it have access to the Caspian
Additionally, while Moscow and Tehran are public about trading goods like wheat, their defensive trade is a different story.
“If you’re thinking about the ideal place for sanction evasion and military transfers, it’s the Caspian,” said Prof. Nicole Grajewski of Sciences Po in Paris.
While Russia’s shipping of drone parts may not be instrumental in Tehran’s military capabilities, it helps rebuild the regime’s offensive capabilities. The report noted that 60% of its drone arsenal was used during the war between Israel, Iran, and the US. If the shipments continue, Tehran can rebuild its arsenal more quickly, informed sources told the NYT.
The trade has flowed both ways in years past. The NYT noted that during the onset of the war in Ukraine, Iran shipped Russia Shahed drones to use on the battlefield, even though the Kremlin had already developed an improved version of the drone.
“For American policymakers, the Caspian is a geopolitical black hole; it’s almost like it doesn’t exist,” senior Hudson Institute fellow Luke Coffey told the NYT. He added that the nations that border the Caspian are fragmented for US military planners: Central Command controls Iran, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan, while European Command controls Azerbaijan and Russia.
The Caspian Sea’s potential importance came into focus in 2022, when the Russian military used ships there to fire into Ukraine.
Iran also used the Caspian Sea at the outset of the Ukraine war to resupply Russian troops with ammunition.
“Russia and Iran have found ways around the sanctions regime,” Anna Borshchevskaya, an expert on Russia’s Middle East policy at the Washington Institute, told the NYT.
“That’s exactly why the Israelis bombed the port. Because they understood that through this small, very important trade route, Russia can provide a lot of help to Iran.” https://www.jpost.com/middle-east/iran-news/article-895618

Xenophobia: President Ramaphosa condemns South African ‘opportunists’, ‘criminals’ attacking other Africans
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa described South Africans who violently attack other Africans in the country as ‘opportunists’. He also described such actions as “criminal acts.”
“These are the acts of opportunists who are exploiting the legitimate grievances, particularly those of the poor, under the false guise of ‘community activism’,” the South African leader wrote in a Monday statement posted on his website.
PREMIUM TIMES has reported on the violent protests targeting other Black Africans in parts of South Africa. At least two Nigerians and two Ghanaians have been reported killed in such xenophobic attacks. Properties belonging to many African migrants have also been destroyed in such protests.
On Monday, this newspaper published an editorial calling on Mr Ramaphosa to act to stem the violence.
In his statement, Mr Ramaphosa said his government would clamp down on the perpetrators.
“Some of these people are assuming functions that only state officials are permitted to perform, including stopping people to check identification and conducting searches of private property. Such lawlessness will not be tolerated, regardless of who the perpetrators or victims are,” he wrote. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/foreign/africa/878651-xenophobia-president-ramaphosa-condemns-south-african-opportunists-criminals-attacking-other-africans.html

The way trump talks one will think only Iran is suffering from this senseless war.
At 6 dollar that means cost of food and sundries will go up.
Workers can no longer save and vacationing is out of the question.
Well,, mid term elections are approaching and time for Americans to decide whether they want to buy gas at 10 dollar
Or go back to to a cheaper price. |
Foreign Affairs › It’s Not Just Drivers Who Hate High Gas Prices. So Do Gas Station Owners by Ironfaceman(op): 1:50pm On May 11 |
Chris Bambury’s family has been selling gas in Sonoma Valley, California, for more than 100 years, but never at prices like this.
The price at his two stations was $6.29 for a gallon of regular gas last week, which is actually cheap for his part of California — AAA put the average price in his county at $6.36.
Gas station owners are struggling with rising gas prices just as much as their customers. The overwhelming majority of gas stations are small businesses — not the big oil companies whose brands they sell — and the rise in the wholesale gas price they pay has cut deeply into their already thin profit margins.
Wholesale gas prices aren’t the only rising cost putting the squeeze on station owners. Credit card fees and delivery charges for fuel are both higher than earlier this year. Labor costs are still up from the last gas spike in 2022.
Bambury’s great-grandfather, August Bonneau, started selling gas back in 1922, before there were even paved roads in his part of California. Bambury started in the family business as a teenager doing entry-level jobs — such as pumping gas and cleaning bathrooms. Today, he has 37 employees between the two stores and a third location that doesn’t sell gas.
However, to remember a time when gas was a lot cheaper, Bambury only has to think back to before the war in Iran started in late February. He was selling gas for $4.79.
“We don’t want to move up (prices too fast) and drive customers away,” he said. “We always prefer prices to be lower. The market thrives better. Our customers are happier.”
But for the most part, customers haven’t blamed him or his staff for the prices.
“They hear all about the war and the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.
But as much as he wants to keep prices low, Bambury needs to make at least a profit on gas sales.
“We can’t survive losing on fuel (sales),” he said.
Across the country, another gas station owner told CNN he is considering shutting down his fuel sales.
Harry Singh has owned a gas station in Nutley, New Jersey, since 2009, but now he’s thinking of closing up and just keeping open the attached car repair garage.
“If (prices) stay like this another two or three months, I’m going to start losing money (on fuel sales),” he said.
While his station sells below the local market price, he said he is losing customers to a nearby Costco that sells gas for even cheaper. Even his regular customers aren’t buying as much as before the Iran war.
“They used to fill it up, now they say give me $20, $30,” he said.
The average gap between wholesale and retail prices is about 22 cents a gallon, according to Jeff Lenard, spokesperson for the National Association for Convenience Stores. Those stores sell about 80% of fuel nationwide.
That might sound healthy, but that 22 cents have to cover all the other costs, so a station owner is only likely to break-even, Lenard said. The average gross margin over the last five years was 38.3 cents a gallon. https://edition.cnn.com/2026/05/11/business/gas-station-owners-pain

Oga this you epistle no follow. I'm talking about Nigeria having their own vehicular data base like order nations. noskcid: You are mistaking my chief, I am an auto dealer and I have been in the game since 2016.
You are permitted to Google search a vin tag on Google search and it will bring all the info about that car if it was sold in the auction market and if it was bought from a dealership, that dealership will still give you clearance documents that will enable the authorities pass you in usa or Canada.
Did you know that the auction website always post on their website to pay so that that vin tag be removed from their site?
Why is that?
So that people coming to check if the car is accidented will not see the information from Nigeria most especially.
Oga whatever gets into Nigeria, wether stolen or not, if it is not alarmed like this ones, e don go.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted and handed over several stolen luxury vehicles smuggled into Nigeria from Canada, in a move aimed at strengthening international cooperation against transnational crime.
The vehicles were handed over at Tin Can Island Port to Canada’s Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Nasser Salihou, by the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Frank Onyeka.
The recovery followed months of intelligence sharing and coordinated operations between the NCS and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), after investigations by Canadian authorities revealed that stolen exotic vehicles had been shipped to Nigeria through international cargo routes.
Documents dated May 5, 2026, showed that the intercepted vehicles include a 2019 Lexus RX350, 2019 Mercedes-Benz G550, 2023 Land Rover Range Rover, 2019 Lamborghini Huracán, 2021 Rolls-Royce Dawn Convertible, 2018 Lamborghini Aventador, and a 2026 Toyota Tundra, all confirmed to have been stolen and illegally exported before arriving in the country.
Speaking at the handover, Comptroller Onyeka disclosed that one of the vehicles, a Toyota Tacoma, was concealed inside a container carrying other vehicles and had not exited Customs control before intelligence from Canadian authorities prompted swift intervention.
He said upon receiving the alert and relevant shipping documents through official channels, officers immediately isolated the consignment, extracted the vehicle and placed it under enforcement custody pending diplomatic verification.
What looked like a routine cargo movement quickly became an international criminal investigation. Once intelligence reached us, we placed the consignment under enforcement watch and secured the vehicle pending confirmation from Canadian authorities,” Onyeka said.
He added that the Service delayed the release of the vehicles until Canadian officials arrived to complete identification and recovery procedures, stressing the need to maintain the integrity of the process.
We had people who wanted to step in on behalf of others, but this was too sensitive. We insisted the handover must be directly to the Canadian government,” he said.
Onyeka noted that the operation underscores the Service’s resolve to combat transnational vehicle theft syndicates exploiting global shipping routes.
He also said the recovery highlights growing cooperation between Nigeria and Canada in intelligence sharing, cargo profiling and maritime enforcement, particularly in tackling organised cross-border crimes involving stolen assets and illicit trade. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2026/05/customs-intercepts-hands-over-stolen-rolls-royce-lamborghini-others-smuggled-from-canada/

In response to a query, the IDF says that it “views the incident gravely and emphasizes that the soldier’s conduct completely deviates from the values expected of its troops.” An initial inquiry conducted by the IDF found that the photo was taken in the village of Debel several weeks ago, although it was only shared online today. The photo was taken in the same village where a soldier smashed a statue of Jesus last month.“The incident will be investigated, and command measures against the soldier will be taken in accordance with the findings,” the IDF says. Foreign Affairs › Democrat Chedrick Greene’s Win In Michigan State Senate Election by Ironfaceman(op): 6:45pm On May 06 |
Democrat Chedrick Greene’s win in Michigan state Senate election gives the party another over-performance Michigan Democrats on Tuesday won a special election for a state Senate seat in another party over-performance after the district was almost evenly divided in the last presidential election. Democratic firefighter Chedrick Greene defeated GOP lawyer Jason Tunney for a seat to determine whether Democrats would retain control of the state Senate. With an estimated 93% of votes in, Greene led Tunney by 19 points. Michigan was one of the hardest-fought states in the presidential election and remains a top battleground in the midterms, home to competitive Senate and governor’s races. Former Vice President Kamala Harris carried the state Senate district by less than 1 percentage point in 2024.
Greene’s victory was the most recent example of Democrats exceeding their 2024 margins in special elections across the country, a trend that has them feeling upbeat about their chances in the midterms. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, a New York Democrat, said in a post on X Wednesday that the contest was a “massive defeat for MAGA Republicans” and that two vulnerable House Republicans from the state, Reps. Tom Barrett and Bill Huizenga, were “officially on notice.”“We delivered this decisive victory by listening and speaking to the things keeping everyday people up at night — worries about affordability, safety, and freedom,” Greene said in his victory speech.Tunney conceded the special election and said in a statement that it was “only the halfway point,” alluding to the fact that he and Greene could meet again in the November election. Michigan GOP Chairman Jim Runestad downplayed the national implications of the outcome, saying in a statement that Republicans were vastly outspent and that recent political trends in the state show there is “little correlation between special elections and General Election Day.” The candidates in Tuesday’s contest were vying to fill a seat that has been vacant since its former occupant, now-Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet, gave it up to enter Congress in January 2025. She campaigned with Greene, as did Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.Greene ran on his background as a Marine veteran and fire captain, promising to lower the cost of living. One of his ads depicted him putting out a Dumpster fire tagged with the labels “higher rents,” “job loss” and “price gouging.”https://edition.cnn.com/2026/05/06/politics/chedrick-greene-democrat-wins-michigan-election
