Almost 40 years after Bill and Hillary Clinton first entered American public life, they are to leave it beset by crushing humiliation. There will be no first female U.S. President — this time. History will not be made by a wife following her two-term husband into the Oval Office. There will be no dynasty, no President Hillary Clinton. Why did they think they deserved otherwise? A zombie marriage killed long ago by Bill’s philandering was cynically reactivated to boost her White House ambitions. Trump called her ‘crooked Hillary’. She certainly warranted the adjective ‘toxic’. She was chilly and aloof; the technocrat personification of America’s East Coast liberal elite that Rust Belt America and beyond had grown to despise. In the end, too many people had simply grown tired of the Clintons emerging from scandal after scandal with their ambitions intact. But then, the Clintons always came with an awful lot of baggage, as this list of controversies proves . . . Travelgate The first whiff of scandal to surround the Clintons began with the 1993 sacking of the seven employees in the White House Travel Office, soon after Bill had become President. These staffers were replaced by a commercial travel firm from Little Rock, Arkansas. Critics claimed the changes were ordered by the Clintons so that their cronies — in one case a cousin — could take over the multi-million dollar business of White House travel arrangements. A claim that Hillary had been instrumental in securing the firings — something she had denied — seemed to be confirmed by an internal White House memo unearthed in 1996. The first whiff of scandal to surround the Clintons began with the 1993 sacking of the seven employees in the White House Travel Office (Clintons pictured in 1998) A cover-up was alleged. In 2000, an official report on ‘Travelgate’ decided that while some of Mrs Clinton’s statements were ‘factually false’ and that she had played a role in the sackings, there was insufficient evidence to support the laying of criminal charges against her. She was able to continue her ultimately successful bid for a seat in the U.S. Senate. The Whitewater affair ‘Whitewater’ was the key financial scandal of the Clinton presidency. Neither Bill nor Hillary were prosecuted — after three inquiries failed to find sufficient evidence to link them to the criminal conduct of others — but two of their associates and a partner in her law firm were jailed. Another crony had to resign as Arkansas governor. Along the way, Mrs Clinton became the first-ever First Lady to have been subpoenaed to give evidence, and a close aide was found dead. The Whitewater investigation by independent counsel Kenneth Starr would also expose Bill Clinton’s hectic sex life to the scrutiny of the world. So what was it all about? In 1978, Bill was Arkansas attorney general and running for state governor. That year he and Hillary joined another couple, James and Susan McDougal, to borrow $203,000 to buy 220 acres in the Ozark mountains on which to build holiday homes. A company called the Whitewater Development Corporation was founded for the project. ‘Whitewater’ was the key financial scandal of the Clinton presidency . Mr McDougal, who was briefly employed as an adviser by Clinton when he became governor, left politics to buy a bank. This bank lent Mrs Clinton $30,000 to build a show house on the Whitewater land. In 1982, McDougal also bought a small finance company called Madison Guaranty. The firm’s struggles and failure would be central to the ensuing furore. Along the way Mr McDougal’s firm hired Hillary Clinton’s law firm and raised funds for her husband’s political war chest. In 1989, Madison Guaranty collapsed. The federal government had to bail it out using $60 million of public money. Mr McDougal was indicted on fraud charges but acquitted. The matter did not end there, however. With Bill Clinton’s election to the White House in 1992 interest in and allegations about Whitewater only increased. In 1993, shortly after he had filed three years’ worth of Whitewater tax returns for the Clintons, deputy White House counsel Vince Foster was found dead in a Washington area park. Police ruled it suicide. But there was speculation that persons unknown had removed files from Foster’s office shortly after his body was found. James and Susan McDougal were subsequently charged with bank fraud and jailed. Arkansas governor Jim Tucker was convicted of fraud and given probation. The state’s assistant attorney general Webster Hubbell, also drawn into the affair, was jailed for an unrelated fraud. Hillary was accused by a New York Times columnist of being a ‘congenital liar’. In 1996, prosecutor Starr would subpoena her to answer questions about her law firm. But while she had to appear before a grand jury, and President Clinton had to give videotaped evidence to the Whitewater trials, both escaped criminal proceedings. Hillary was accused by a New York Times columnist of being a ‘congenital liar’ (pictured together in 1998) But hardly scot-free. The collateral damage to both their marriage and his reputation was huge. The Arkansas ‘assaults’ In 1999, Juanita Broaddrick, a nursing home administrator, alleged that she had been raped by Bill Clinton in 1978 when he was Arkansas attorney general. She would not speak about the incident again until January this year, when she tweeted: ‘I was 35 years old when Bill Clinton, Ark. Attorney General raped me and Hillary tried to silence me. I am now 73 . . . it never goes away.’ She subsequently appeared on a panel at one of the presidential debates with Donald Trump and other alleged Clinton victims. Mr Clinton’s predatory approach to young females was first described by Paula Jones, an Arkansas state employee. She alleged that in 1991, aged 24, she had been sexually propositioned by the then governor Clinton in a Little Rock hotel room. He also exposed himself, she said. In 1994, with Clinton by then in the White House, Ms Jones filed a claim for sexual harassment against him and demanded $750,000 in damages. The case dragged through the civil courts until November 1998, when the President settled for the amount she had demanded. There was no apology. By then the affair had spun way out of Clinton’s control. In the course of the Jones litigation, her legal team had tried to establish that the President’s alleged behaviour was part of a pattern. Among those subpoenaed was one Monica Lewinsky, a former White House intern. She would initially deny in evidence any relationship. But the later Lewinsky testimony — which centred on an infamous semen-stained dress — and Bill Clinton’s pitiful semantics about what did and did not constitute sex, would lead to his impeachment. ‘Zippergate’ and Monica Lewinsky In his deposition for the Paula Jones lawsuit, Clinton flatly denied ‘sexual relations’ with the then 22-year-old Californian Lewinsky. Whitewater investigator Starr was informed otherwise by key witness Linda Tripp. He decided that the President had committed perjury. Later, before a grand jury, the President claimed that he thought ‘sexual relations’ did not include MouthAction. Clinton also made a humiliating televised statement, admitting to a ‘not appropriate’ relationship with the intern. A stone-faced Hillary stood by his side. Bill Clinton was impeached in December 1998 on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice (Hillary with Bill during her speech following her defeat to Trump) In fact, Miss Lewinsky would say that sex acts had taken place on nine occasions, including in the Oval Office, between 1995-97. Clinton was impeached in December 1998 on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. As the nation held its breath the President was acquitted at trial before the U.S. Senate. He would still be punished, however. A judge found Clinton in civil contempt of court in relation to his misleading testimony in the Paula Jones case. He was fined and ordered to pay costs. In January 2001 the Arkansas Bar Association suspended President Clinton’s licence to practise for five years. Wealth and the Clinton Foundation Mired in legal fees from their run-ins with prosecutors, the Clintons set about making money from their White House years. And how they have succeeded. Private speeches for banks and other corporations at $250,000 a time have earned them a fortune, put at $150 million. Much of this wealth has been poured into the family charity, the Clinton Foundation, which was established in 1997. Bill, Hillary and their daughter Chelsea are all directors and the foundation has been used as a vehicle for a number of global philanthropic projects. But it has also come under fire for poor accounting, alleged cronyism and conflicts of interest, and has laid the Clintons open to accusations of undue influence by wealthy donors. Mrs Clinton reportedly pulled in $22 million in advances for her memoirs. Tax returns showed the Clintons’ 2014 income at $28 million. The epithet ‘Learjet liberals’ — aimed at the Clintons and their ilk — is not meant to be flattering. It suggests a disconnect with the American people that Donald Trump was only too successful in exploiting. It emerged that while Secretary of State, Mrs Clinton had been using a vulnerable private email server to send classified information The Benghazi attack On September 11, 2012, the American ambassador to Libya and three of his countrymen died during an assault by militants on the isolated U.S. consulate in Benghazi. Mrs Clinton, then Secretary of State, was accused by opponents of failing to protect U.S. installations and personnel. She knew the attacks were coming, they said, and did nothing. The matter became a political football during Mrs Clinton’s bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. She had to testify before a House committee investigating the attack, but it failed to find a smoking gun which would damage her credibility as a leader. But during the investigation another highly embarrassing matter concerning private emails came to light which would be seized upon by the Trump camp. Once again she would be cleared of serious wrongdoing, but only at the 11th hour. The damage done to her campaign by this was possibly fatal, say some analysts. The private emails It emerged that while Secretary of State, Mrs Clinton had been using a vulnerable private email server to send classified information. This was at best reckless, at worst criminally negligent. In July, the FBI announced it would not recommend criminal charges. While she had been ‘extremely careless’, it looked as if Mrs Clinton was in the clear. Then came the bombshell. Ten days before polling day, FBI director James Comey sent a letter to Congress to say that his bureau was reviewing yet another tranche of Clinton emails related to her use of the private server. Trump’s people seized gleefully on this as evidence of poor judgment. On Sunday, however, Comey said the FBI had given the emails a clean bill of health. But many Democrats feel that by then the damage had been done in the eyes of the voters. The Clinton dream of a White House dynasty was over. "Humanity has entered the era of sustainability – with a global commitment to fulfil the great promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In this, the Organization’s 71st year, we have 17 goals to propel us towards a better future for all on a healthy planet. " — UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being. 24 October has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly recommended that the day be observed by Member States as a public holiday. This year's UN Day will be used to highlight concrete actions people can take to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. UN Day Concert – 24 October, United Nations General Assembly Hall A concert to celebrate and reflect on the work of the UN through the universal language of music, featuring the Hungarian State Opera with performances by soprano Andrea Rost and other notable artists. The theme of this year’s concert is “Freedom First”. Messages Secretary-General's Message for 2016 This year’s observance of United Nations Day occurs at a time of transition for the world and for the United Nations. Humanity has entered the era of sustainability – with a global commitment to fulfil the great promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In this, the Organization’s 71st year, we have 17 goals to propel us towards a better future for all on a healthy planet. The world is also moving at long last beyond the mindset which viewed the burning of fossil fuels as the path to prosperity. At a time of record heat, Member States have embraced the Paris Agreement on climate change in record time. This landmark measure will enter into force on 4 November. Across that historic threshold lies our best chance for greener, cleaner, low-carbon growth. The United Nations is also in transition, from its eighth Secretary-General to the ninth. I have been honoured to serve “we the peoples” for the past ten years. Together, we have put in place some solid foundations for shared progress – which we must build on by working even harder to empower women, engage youth and uphold human rights for all. But we have also suffered enormous heartbreak -- including unresolved conflicts causing immense suffering throughout the troubled Middle East, South Sudan, the Sahel and beyond. On these and other frontlines of violence and disaster, courageous UN staff continue to rise to the occasion and respond to the plight of the vulnerable. I thank people across the world for their support -- and urge all to give their full backing to Secretary-General-designate Antonio Guterres in continuing our global mission of peace, sustainable development and human rights. Ban Ki-moon Statement by the President of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly United Nations Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of our Organization's founding document, the UN Charter. Its observation is an annual reminder of the long and often difficult road Member States have decided to travel together. We are sustained by common aspiration as defined in the Purposes and Principles of the Charter. I salute the fact that this year's UN Day will be used to highlight concrete actions that people can take to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The central thrust of the General Assembly’s 71st Session is to achieve momentum in the implementation of all 17 SDGs. H.E. A rich man in Egypt who goes by the name Nasser Hassan is receiving heavy backlash for his decision to get a wife for his 12 year-old son. He made the annoucement while celebrating his eldest son's wedding where he invited various singers and belly dancers to perform. Adding insult to injury, his 12-year-old son, Omar would be getting married to his 11-year-old cousin Gharam. Child marriage is common practice in Egypt even though Egyptian laws prohibit official registration for marriages for anyone under the age of 18. But the practice remains prevalent. According to UNICEF, 17 percent of Egyptian girls are married before the age of 18, the vast majority of the unions taking place in rural areas. But in the case of Omar and Gharam, their engagement sparked outrage, particularly among child and women’s rights activists. The photos of the young couple – Omar in a blue suit, heavily made-up Gharam in a white dress, high heels, and wearing a tiara – splashed across newspapers in the country and heightened the anger. Omar’s father, faced with the backlash of his decision, told local newspapers that he "is a free man and did nothing wrong." https://parroteye..com.ng/2016/10/12-year-old-boy-to-marry-11-year-old.html

This has really been a hard time for Nigerians due to the economy issue we are passing through, however some people have decided to throw away their integrity by defrauding and duping other people of their hard earned money, I did experience two of such and would be sharing it on this thread in order to save other people from falling prey to this set of people and I want to implore others to share their story too. Thanks The first of that was luztow dispatch, whose owner is Tosin Akilofa, which i got his contact in May on an online store, I gave them 4 items to deliver, 3 footwears and a mini laptop to deliver to other states. the whole items amount to 66k.. he paid me 12k and refused to pay my 44k.. all I hear now is stories that touch the heart, he has been avoiding my calls but when i called him with my girl's phone, he picked and even called her back. I decided to visit his office, the one on his complimentary card. at. 14,idimu ikotun road college bus/stop. The address was a complex and his office couldn't be located in the plaza. CRACKED He swore he'd kill any person who tried to hurt me, He was the person mama fell in love with.. He was the person mama trusted the most. Mama called him my protector and I never understood why. He took care of me well when mama was home with us. She adored him and I knew it. She was happy with him and it was okay by me. But, he was the person I feared the most. When he walks confidently into my room at night, When mama was gone to work. My heart beats faster a hundred times. He was the man my body has gotten accustomed to- The only man my body has ever known And when he touches me where it hurts. I close my eyes and try to shut my mind. In the past I cry but nomore.. not anymore! Ever time he went deeper into me- I told myself... I told my body To hold on a little more. That this man is a monster and my papa is coming to defend me. To hurt him for hurting his daughter- His baby girl. My knight in sparkling armour is on his way. Peace climbed into my heart. As I imagined my papa coming home to tear this creep apart That is what I know fathers do. They govern with kindness They encourage They direct They provide They reflect love in every direction They protect. Father was alive but his being has been murdered out of FATHER Still, I knew it was all lies I told my body. The monster who visits constantly- And leaves me with throbbing pain is my papa My very own blood The man whom mama called papa "My Protector". And he aint coming to save me today or forever. So, I lied still on my bed without emotions as father went deeper. And even now... I'm lying to myself again IG: @__OUinni (Whi-nee)

For some strange reason, the Bible is replete with stories of famines and Second Kings 6:29 tells of a particular scarcity of food in Israel; so severe it was that two women agreed to cook and eat their own sons to stay alive. I remembered this story last night while chatting with a friend. I was complaining that I could barely afford to feed my kids due to the galloping prices of food items. I was particularly sore because I was coming from the stores where I had discovered that the cost of every single thing had gone up from three days ago. Sometime at midnight, when everyone else was asleep, I entered my kids’ room to check on them. as I adjusted blankets and mosquito nets, I remembered those two women driven to the depths of despair and I wondered if Nigeria wasn’t headed that way already. Suddenly I found myself wondering if push comes to shove, which of the four boys I would start with. morbid, right?? I asked myself; Who do I love most or least? Jay is my first born and the one that resembles me the most; physically and mentally. He excels in everything he sets his mind to and makes me so proud. He is considerate and kind, patient and thoughtful and a great big brother and so I need him to help me with his younger ones. Obama is my cute dimpled Presidential baby. He is sensitive and thoughtful, very introspective. He is a hugger and has the warmest smile and he tells me he loves me at least twenty times per day. He is the first to notice a new hairstyle, freshly manicured nails and all that. He loves animals and is happy to play alone all day. He is undemanding and painfully shy and i cant imagine my life without him. Saanmi is the life of the party. He is our in-house guitarist, drummer and all-round entertainer. He can charmingly sell ice to an Eskimo and is unashamedly manipulative. The joy on his face when i drive in after work every day is priceless. No way am i eating Saanmi to stay alive. I CANT LIVE WITHOUT HIM. Treasure is our baby-last and a southpaw like me. He is so cute and fiercely independent. He has his whole life ahead of his and deserves to live it to the fullest. It’s obvious I can’t and won’t eat any of them to stay alive. What was that first woman in that story even thinking; how come she agreed her son should be eaten first? She probably didn’t even get the lion share sef, tufiakwa!! Since I am the de facto chief cook and can’t be eaten first or any time soon, that left the Head of the family. Hmmm, so I left the kids’ room to go and examine HOF as he lay sleeping. I wondered if we ate him, how long we could survive before it would be time to look for another meal and who that meal would be. I didn’t even realise i was touching his arms and legs, looking for the fleshier bits until he suddenly came awake and asked; ‘honey, what is it?’ Hmmmmm, Bubu try nah. No fall our hand oo before what happened in Israel a few thousand years ago will happen in Nigeria under your watch ooo. As we celebrate another Independence day today, it is time for us to look within, to come together as one, irrespective of tribe, religion or gender, it is time for us to create the Nigeria of our dream for our children and our children's children for we are only trustees of the Land, only then will the future generations have a Nigeria to celebrate. Happy Independence day to you all!

A total of 2,807 men reported domestic -abuse cases against their wives last year as against 3,143 the previous year. Similarly, about 13,465 women also reported domestic violence cases against their spouses last year as against 15,207 the previous year. Statistics for the first half of the year are still being compiled by the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOWSU) of the Ghana Police Service. The cases reported by the men included denial of sex and food, use of abusive languages, assault among others. In total the unit recorded 15,749 cases in 2015 as against 17,77 8recorded in 2014. Some of the reported cases were defilement, rape, attempted rape, sodomy, incest, kidnapping, murder, abortion, death threat, bigamy, causing harm, child abuse, abduction, and child trafficking. The DOVVSU National Coordinator, Chief Superintendent Rev. Laurencia Wilhelmina Akorli disclosed this to The Ghanaian Times newspaper in Accra on Wednesday stating that there had been a reduction in the reported cases. Chief Supt. Akorli stated that despite the fact that men were coming out to report domestic violent cases against them, women were cm the ascendancy. The DOWSU Coordinator said to ensure a reduction in reported cases, the Unit would be engaging stakeholders such as traditional rulers and religious bodies in their activities. She appealed to the Chief Justice, Mrs. Georgina Theodora Wood to establish more Domestic Violence (DV) courts to deal with cases quickly. The Coordinator said currently, there were only three of the DV courts in Accra, Tema and Kumasi. She expressed worry over the increase in child non maintenance cases in the country stating that last year alone 4,685 cases were recorded. Chief Supt. Akorli called on parents to cater for their children till they reach their adulthood. “If even a relationship is broken the children should not suffer the repercussion. It is the responsibility of every parent to cater for the needs of his or her children till adulthood,” she added. The coordinator stressed the need to revisit the extended family system to support in the upbringing of children. She urged victims of any form of abuse to report perpetrators to the police to ensure that justice was served. “Offenders should be punished and not left off the hook to serve as deterrent to others.” she added. The coordinator advised parents of abused victims to desist from collecting money from culprits to drop cases. Chief Supt Akorli said such practice was criminal and those found culpable would be arrested and prosecuted. Source:https://parroteye..com.ng/2016/09/2807-men-were-beaten-by-wives-in-ghana.html |

La Villa Les Cèdres in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The global property markets may be mired in uncertainty, but on the world’s most expensive streets, prices keep going up... and up. This week, the world’s most expensive home ever came to market, with a reported listing price of US$1.1 billion (€1 billion). La Villa Les Cèdres (translated as The Cedars), is situated on the elite Gallic peninsula of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, which Billionaire ranked the world’s fifth most expensive street last year. The exclusive neighbourhood, situated between Nice and Monaco, is known for its magnificent villas owned by billionaires and tycoons, including the co-founder of Microsoft, Paul Allen, and late Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky. The mansion has 10 bedrooms, a ballroom and a chapel, a 50m swimming pool built into the rocks, a winter garden, concierge, 35 acres of manicured lawns and a stable for 30 horses, according to French media. It was built around 1830 and was once home to Belgium’s King Leopold II. If La Villa Les Cèdres is bought for its asking price, it could propel Cap Ferrat to the position of world’s most expensive neighbourhood, knocking Hong Kong’s Peak Road off its perch. Last year, prices on Peak Road averaged an eye-watering US$114,000 per square metre, nearly double the US$67,000 per square metre on the most expensive road in Cap Ferrat, according to estate agent Savills. In August 2014, a 650-square-metre house on Chemin du Sémaphore, the road that runs down the middle of the peninsula, sold for €37 million. “We are seeing more Middle Eastern, northern European and UK buyers coming back to the market,” said Jean-Claude Caputo of Savills, in last year’s ranking. The owner of the property is reportedly Suzanne Marnier-Lapostolle of the Grand Marnier family, who is looking to downsize to a more modest abode. The property has been in the family, which is known for producing cognacs and liqueurs, for nearly a century. The sale of a home such as this is also extremely rare. “A top property on one of the world’s most expensive streets may come to market only once in a generation,” said Yolande Barnes, head of residential research at Savills. “The owners of these homes are unlikely to need the money and tend to hang on to such prized real estate.” Copied from : https://parroteye..com.ng/2016/08/worlds-most-expensive-home-to-sell-for.html

I feel i owe this research to Nairalanders, having been saved by Nairaland from scam thrice now... After reading the post, I hope you take precaution.. Have you heard about MMM? the question keep thronging in... With me promising to run an extensive research on it... and now I finally did... MMM whose founder is Sergei Mavrodi Question 1. Who is Sergei Mavrodi? Answer: According to Wikipedia... Sergei Mavrodi is: is a Russian criminal and a former deputy of the State Duma. He is the founder of the МММ series of pyramid schemes. In 2007 Sergei Mavrodi was found guilty in a Russian court of defrauding 10,000 investors out of 110 million rubles ($4.3 million). MMM activities In 1989 he founded MMM. He was then elected to the State Duma, thereby obtaining parliamentary immunity. Mavrodi declared MMM bankrupt on December 22, 1997, then disappeared, and was on the run until his arrest in 2003. In 1998 Mavrodi created Stock Generation, allegedly a classic pyramid scheme presented as a "virtual stock market game". The website ran from 1998 to early 2000. The Massachusetts district court initially found that U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission was unable to cite Stock Generation's founders and owners for securities violations. However, the United States Court of Appeals reversed this decision in 2001, concluding that the SEC alleged sufficient facts to state a triable claim. In 2003 the SEC obtained permanent injunctions against SG Ltd. and relief defendants SG Perfect and SG Trading, which profited from the disbursement of funds fraudulently gained by SG Ltd. On April 28, 2007, a Moscow court sentenced him to four and a half years in a penal colony. The court also fined him 10,000 rubles ($390). In January 2011, Mavrodi launched another pyramid scheme called MMM-2011, asking investors to buy so-called Mavro currency units. He frankly described it as a pyramid, adding "It is a naked scheme, nothing more ... People interact with each other and give each other money. For no reason!" Mavrodi said that his goal with MMM-2011 is to destroy the current financial system, which he considers unfair, which would allow something new to take its place. MMM-2011 was able to function openly as Ponzi schemes and financial pyramids are not illegal under Russian law. In May 2012 he froze the operation and announced that there would be no more payouts. In 2011 he launched a similar scheme in India, called MMM India, again stating clearly that the vehicle is a pyramid. He has also launched MMM in China. He was reported to be trying to expand his operations into Western Europe, Canada, and Latin America.
