Onlytruth: One of the things that baffle me most these days is the rapacious and mindless way by which Nigeria and Nigerians copy foreign things.
This copycat culture is now assuming epidemic proportions.

It is NOT EVERYTHING you see overseas that is good for Nigeria (or even Africans). Some (if not most) of them were NOT designed for us.

Before anything is added to the society, it is usually designed to suit a particular society. Therefore, there should be a thorough review of its suitability to our peculiar culture, nature (phisiology and psychology), environment, social system, political reality, history...etc before adoption.
Previous Nigerian governments did well to stem some of the massive foreign assault on Nigerian societal reality.

We are Nigerians, Africans before anything else.

If anything at all we should be EXPORTING our things. We are doing well for example exporting our movies ( Nollywood) and Music (current Nigerian musicians are simply awesome and a pride to associate with). Nigeria is a TYPICAL African country, hence our products are suited for Africa and Africans. We cannot say for example that Thai rice is best suited for Nigeria, when we have Ofada and Abakaliki rice.

We must not simply privatize because we see others do same overseas. I see our schools (tertiary institutions) going down this route more and more, and I know that some of these new private schools can NEVER produce the type of GREAT Africans and Nigerians that our Federal universities produced.
The same appeal goes to the agricultural sector. I hope that we are not grabbing ANY and ALL foreign food materials without thorough scrutiny and review.

The world is no longer as innocent as it used to be.

However I disagree about the supposed benefits of Nollywood. Having a thriving domestic movie-making industry is commendable, but I'm not sure the nonsense ideas in a majority of Nollywood movies serve us well. Maybe I haven't seen the right ones. Still, I prefer the traditional native language ones.
