River Niger, before it was named Niger, was a two part body of water. River djelibe flowing in Mali/Songhai and Ghana empire and river quora (kuora/kwara) flowing through Dahomey/Yoruba empire.

What is kuora? In Yoruba kuora is a very big hemispherical calabash used to paddle across river or stay afloat while fishing or harvesting seafood.
Interesting.

The people of Kwara need to attend to a challenge inevitable in their future when SNC is on table.
When will this Sovereign National Conference take place anyway? There has been repeated calls for it, but I don't see any concrete plans for one. It sounds like the hip thing to talk about. undecided

9jacrip: I used to think I was the only person who had loves being a Yoruba and had the love of all Yoruba at heart no matter where they come from. There's the absence of suspicion and this friction that holds in the broader Nigeria - I didn't know we were this much. I foresee a bright future for Yoruba if we ever form a country or at least regionalism is implemented, the love and one voice will make us all movers and shakers

~ or am I just a dreamer?
No, you're not. And you're not the only one that has love for Yoruba. Many of us want a unity with all Yorubas - no matter where they are - in Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Brazil, Haiti, Iceland, wherever! cool smiley

Personally, I have love for all Nigerians and Africans as a whole. I have no desire for any breakup. I firmly believe in maintaining all territory and adding more. tongue

We will be weakened if Nigeria breaks up. A confederacy may work, but I am not aware of any nation-states successfully practising such a form of government. I would like more posts about how this regional government is supposed to be implemented. But that may also be outside of our topic here.

alj harem: Hmmm but even Ilorin has about 40% Christians. Ilorin might be of not obvious advantage to a yoruba nation but THAT DOES NOT MEAN WE SHOULD DROP WHAT IS OURS IF IN AGREEMENT.
Hello, Alj harem. Long time no see.

shymexx: @the bolded - can you please educate me on the strategic and economic interest the Ilorin's would bring to the table? Also, what's beneficial in an ally whose loyalty lies elsewhere?
There is no perfect union. How do you know their loyalty lies elsewhere? Because they voted NPN in 79 and PDP since the third Republic? What of the one of two Igbo states that vote differently from the others? Where will they go? Will they come with the West because they voted APC/Tinubu party? Or even Edo state? The decision can not lie on just one issue - Politics/Presidential electoral votes. For me, just the fact that it adds to Yoruba population and square miles is good enough reason. All the rest is secondary.

Katsumoto: This is a good question. The risks outweigh the benefits in my opinion.

The people of Kwara are as Yoruba as the other groups and they must decide, in any eventuality, for themselves. By decide, I mean a plebiscite where all vote and not one Saraki fellow voting for all Kwarans. The Kwarans also seem to place religion above Yoruba culture which may make them seem less Yoruba than other groups.
How do they do that, Katsumoto? Because they pray 5 times a day and cover their heads? Because they don't show skin or wear tight clothes? This is a popular criticism, and I respect you enough to know you believe this and have experiential proof of it. But I think the problem is interpretation. Why not compare and contrast them with people of other faiths who are devout. Christians that go to church every Sunday and bible study on some nights? I really think we're judging them harshly because they don't follow the dictates of popular culture, not because they are less Yoruba than others. Most of the folks that continue to honor Yoruba religion the most are actually from Muslim families. Anyway, like I said, I don't want to turn it into a religious debate, though it may be unavoidable.

Katsumoto: You should stop calling them a minority in the West. You don't need a census to know that there is no group with a majority in the West, so all groups individually are minorities. Don't create a schism where none exists.
Good one. cool

Sorry I'm late replying.
PoliticsRe: Proposed National Conference: A Case For Kwara State by isalegan2:
Desola: My dear, the question you should ask yourself is: Do majority of Kwarans see the Saraki family as corrupt? In so far as Kwarans hail the Saraki family who have imposed itself the defacto ruler of the Kwarans, Kwarans would continue to align with the north.

If you are bent on the course of not ceding kwara to the north, then you need to start a reorientation programe in Kwara to relieve them of the Saraki brainwash. They need to be unshackled from the Saraki slavery chains before they can think of charting their own destiny.
I don't deny there are Kwarans who worship Fulani. Our own Jarus is living proof of that. grin

But that does not mean all Kwarans will be thrown out with the bath water. Anyway, do the Sarakis win elections with 90% of the vote? Well, then it's a fight to the finish, o jare.

django1: @isale_gan2, this is not a matter of religious bigotry, where i come from it is majority moslems, but unlike them they dont try to force their religion on non-moslem as befitting proper yoruba people.
I have been Muslim my whole life and I have never met Muslims who force their religion down anyone's throat. My experience has been quite the reverse. But, whatever, dude. undecided I know there's a thread around here - on Yoruba/Muslim issue - where a number of the posters in this very thread participated gallantly. smiley

Desola: Omo Nna!
grin grin grin grin grin grin grin cheesy cheesy

My position isn't solely based on Kwarans mode of dressing. I have conversed with a number of 'Yoruba' Kwarans, both online and off it and the view I get is that in as much as they can trace their origin to Ife and perhaps speak better Yoruba than myself, they seem not to be able to divorce themselves from the Fulani/Hausa culture. They are torn, so to say. Okay if we are to disregard the mode of dressing, how about religion? How about political allegiance? This culture of going to the emir's palace for Salah meal is not prevalent in the Yoruba culture, neither do we follow our leaders sheepishly like they do. You want us to disregard Saraki's declaration of being Fulani, yet these same 'Yoruba' Kwarans hold the Saraki family in high esteem and would do the family's bidding as directed. Yorubas in as much as they are respect their obas, they are also quick to criticize and voice out against nepotism, inequality, unfairness and injustice. We respect our leaders but do not worship them. This I cannot say about Kwarans.

We cannot fight to save those who do not see themselves as being in captivity. They are fine just the way things are, at least it appears so. They are torn and something tells me that if push comes to shove, (given that muslims and I mean staunch muslims which most Kwarans are pledge allegiance to their faith before their ethnicity) they would go with the devil they know. It is hoped that it would be easier for them that way.
I get your point. BTW, I am neither Igbo nor Kwaran. And I am no Saraki supporter. Far from it.

So you will dismiss all Kwarans because the corrupt Sarakis somehow cheat their way into power. That's like saying you hate all Nigerians, especially Yorubas because the corrupt Obasanjo was Head of State multiple times. Or that all Nigerians are retarded because GEJ is president.

shymexx: What are people letting trolls derail the thread?

You've got an Ijebu hater on the thread who would rather side with opposing groups than support Yoruba's. Her people also need to join the Fulani's and the Afonja's. Else, Ijebu's are also not Yoruba's. We came from Waddai in Sudan!!!

Cut it out, Shymexx. Stay on topic and do not derail thread by personalising issues. We used to be pals nah. cheesy I scolded one guy for his sexist insult, not because I agree with his opponent's opinion. I can express my own opinions clearly!

The issue of Kwarans' affinity for the north politically has always been of interest to me, and I at one time, derided them for it. But age and wisdom dictates that we protect our interest and keep alliances that are beneficial, long-standing and far-reaching. Especially cultural ones.

I have never been one to give an inch. Every parcel of land and every population census must be guarded jealously.

I can never support throwing a part of Yorubaland, or any land, away. undecided

Olugbenger: . . .so pls stay on the sidelines or beg for tips like female abokis do.
Thnks!
There's no need for your sexist misogynistic utterances. Thanks.

Desola: . . .Anyway, why is Yoruba clamoring for lost souls and so desperate to have stooges in their midst? The Yorubas in Kwara have paved their path and from all indications, they would rather be Fulanis. Their mode of dressing tells it all and when you have the Sarakis; despite bearing Yoruba names; tell you that they are Fulanis, then you know to just let them be.
Kwara is bigger than Ilorin; We cannot throw away an entire state because Ilorin is ruled by an "Emir."

Saraki is not Kwara. Their time will end sooner rather than later.

And it is terribly unfair to dismiss Yorubas or any group of people simply for their way of dressing.

https://bearandflower.us/Pictures/NigerianDress.jpg
This is an authentic Yoruba way of dressing.

This is how most Nigerians go about their daily lives now - dressed in stifling suits and ties.

https://itv-radio.com/all_about_the_news/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/EID-EL-FITRI-300x168.jpg
This is similar to the way many Kwarans dress.

So, which group of people are less Yoruba? Which ones are not Yoruba enough to take to Oodua Republic Kingdom? undecided

Huh, Desola? I know you'll call me Ibo now. grin Anyway, I'm not fighting with you. I'm just making a point. cheesy

django1: i agree with @desola, they are mostly fanatical moslems in ilorin and this is not in anyway yoruba-like. it would be dangerous having them in a yoruba nation.
Fanatical in what way? Because they practice their religion? Nonsense religious bigotry.

Nairaland GeneralRe: O Ye My People! by isalegan2: 8:26pm On Oct 19, 2013
Really? I can almost understand the Gayners Gunners' desperation. grin Sports fans are funny. They will always support their players no matter what. Even if last year they hated him while he was with another club and he is "a cheating thuggish so-and-so." lol.

For instance, I can't believe Van Persie bailed on Arsenal and Wenger, and now he's with Manure. shocked

That's another reason I am glad I don't support any professional teams. Each year, they rotate so much and to me there is little continuity. After 3 years, half of the players, and the coach, have been replaced and the club is hardly recognisable.

Also, if I'm supporting a club and they add a player I detest, am I supposed to stifle my feelings and still root for them? And then the following year, they add another questionable character, or a player spits in an opponent's face and I'm supposed to make excuses for him?

I'd rather support my country and just watch professional ball for the entertainment.

Ibime: I am sure she is remorseful, as am I. . . . . but 5 years in a Nigerian jail is no justice. As a European citizen, she should request extradition to Europe.

You can read about her uncle and his heroic actions in Rivers State here:

http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=CcXAqV4Ho04C&pg=PA157&lpg=PA157&dq=dima+fiberesima&source=bl&ots=lCFit_MKA7&sig=QV4VQTsKRlb1XbgIj4fmGGhVhqw&hl=en&ei=Z92jSbf_OsKw-Qbn9KiNBQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=3&ct=result

Her family will always remain highly esteemed in Okrika and Rivers State.

How do we know how much blame to apportion to her sef, considering the state of Nigerian roads, traffic and highway violations, both by drivers and pedestrians?
Damn, you're s-tu-pid!

She killed someone in Nigeria. What entitles her to extradition?

P.S.: I didn't even know who this creature was until I saw this post, and googled the name:

It won't be long before she drives recklessly again and takes another life - hopefully only her own.
CelebritiesRe: Ibinabo Fiberesima Sentenced To 5 Years Imprisonment. by isalegan2: 4:20pm On Oct 19, 2013
Ibime: Chei, my sister!

Why una dey celebrate? Ibinabo is well known to our family. The amount of charity she does in Okrika is amazing and she comes from a lovely and well respected family. Her uncle Dima Fiberesima was a guy who gave sight to hundreds of blind people in PH through free eye-clinics he used to hold in Civic Centre. He was also regarded as the most forthright politician in Rivers State, when he got Gov Adeleye impeached for trying to coerce him into bribery. One mistake, and they finish her off. Would the same happen to any other daughter of such a well respected family? Or is it because her family refuse to engage in corruption?
What a repulsive soulless degenerate thing to say.

So, because someone in her family did a good deed, it entitles her to one free killing? What if her grandfather was a minister that saved souls, or grandma ran a soup kitchen, would she be entitled to 2 more murders?

She is being judged for her actions, not the family she comes from. Damn, I thought you were supposed to the a reasonable poster. Happening upon this post of yours has opened my eyes. I hope you are now smarter than you sounded above.

The useless creature whose sole purpose in life is to sell her appearance and her sexuality got behind the wheel of a car despite being thoroughly drunk; took the life of a human being that potentially could have saved many lives in the future. Yet, we're supposed to feel compassion for her? I'm sure there are people who knew the dead doctor that can come here and say he also was from a nice and well-respected family. He also made a mistake - being on the road the same minute as your useless friend. Now, he's dead with a wife and child to suffer that loss for their rest of their lives.

Your friend deserves no less.
