On Friday, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, submitted verified copies of President Bola Tinubu’s educational and professional records.

The certifications that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has admitted against President Tinubu are his B.Sc. diploma from Chicago State University, National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) discharge certificate and Mobil Nigeria Oil Plc certificate of service.

Through their subpoenaed witness, private attorney Mike Enahoro-Ebah, the PDP delivered the records.

The private attorney observed that although the documents apparently belonged to President Tinubu, they were named “Bola Adekunle Tinubu.”

Chris Uche, the PDP’s principal attorney, introduced the witness into testimony along with the forms EC13 and EC9 nominations as well as the letters sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as attachments.

Abubakar Mahmoud, the attorney for INEC, Emmanuel Ukala, Lateef Fagbemi, and Tinubu all raised objections to the admissibility of the documents.

President Tinubu: The witness referenced the following documents: Certified true copies of form EC9 (Nomination letter of Tinubu).

Receipt of payment for certification.

Witness application letter requesting the documents.

INEC’s Letter of Response.

Certificate from Chicago University belonging to the 2nd respondent (Tinubu).

NYSC discharge certificate belonging to the 2nd respondent, Tinubu Bola Adekunle.

Certificate of service from Mobile Oil Nigeria PLC.

The lead counsel to PDP applied to tender these documents, and all the respondents objected to their admissibility.

A copy of the subpoena served on Chicago University, the original academic records and degree certificate, an original admission letter, and an original transcript from Southwest College, the school Tinubu attended and which was given to Chicago University with the gender indicated as female, was also tendered by the defendant.

The witness also produced a cover note and a notarized judgement from the United States ordering the criminal confiscation of Tinubu’s assets.

In addition, copies of a Guinean passport and Tinubu’s certificate of compliance were shown.

The Neo Africana Centre has commended Mr Peter Obi for his innovative position on brain drain which has just received the backing and endorsement of the American billionaire and founder of Microsoft, Mr Bill Gates.

Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February 25, 2023 presidential elections has, contrary to the position of many, held that brain drain as it affects Nigeria could be a positive development in the future if the government of the country can put the right policies in place.

Even though Obi’s position on the gains of brain drain dates back to 2021 when he opposed the move by federal lawmakers to stop Nigerian doctors from relocating abroad through legislation, his position on the phenomenon was amplified during the last presidential campaigns in which he was a candidate.

Obi had maintained at several fora, including those in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Germany, that “our brain drain today will be our brain gain tomorrow.”

Obi had further argued that Nigerians leaving the country may look like a loss today, but when we start doing the right things and taking the governance of our country more seriously, the knowledge and resources from them will be critical in the building of the new Nigeria of our dreams as was the case in China, India, Ireland and other developing countries of the world.

In a statement by its Director of Public Affairs, the Centre said: “As a public policy think tank with interest in matters of public policy, democracy, and good governance, we are delighted that Obi’s position which many in Nigeria received with cynical reservations, is now receiving global acclaim. This is what Bill Gates’s backing of Obi’s position amounts to.”

Gates who is currently visiting Nigeria had said a few days ago at an interactive session with innovators:

“In a sense, people leaving is a good thing, if you up the amount of training you are doing. Having a big diaspora that includes people coming back into business, into government- that’s a very healthy thing.”

He maintains further that many innovative immigrant doctors had spent some time in the UK and the US as part of their training.

The statement by the Centre reads in part: “It is delightful to note that Nigeria is gradually walking out of the pit of darkness where backward thinking has been the order of the day.

“While our past and present leaders have been agonizing over the phenomenon of brain drain, Obi has stepped forward to tell a different and uncommon story.

“When he said that brain drain could become brain gain, it sounded inchoate and confusing to many. Now, his postulation is beginning to make sense.

“As Obi noted, the onus is on the leadership of the country. Nigeria needs a government that will turn the country around with innovative policies. Such a government will create the right atmosphere that will encourage Nigerian professionals in the diaspora to return home to contribute their quota to the economic, social, and political advancement of the country.

“We are confident that Nigeria will, sooner or later, be blessed with a government driven by ideas and not nepotism and other primordial tendencies.

We believe that the likes of Peter Obi with his creative position on national issues represent that hope that we need in the area of instituting and installing a government that will take Nigeria to the promised land.”

INEC’s counsel Abubakar Mahmood countered Nwala’s report, arguing that the 110 machines analyzed were not enough to substantiate any wrongdoing by the Commission.

Mahmood noted that over 3,263 BVAS devices were used during the presidential election, making Nwala’s sample size insufficient.

In the ongoing Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja, digital forensic expert, Hitler Nwala provided an intriguing testimony.

Nwala claimed that he found proof of data deletion by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). According to him, the erased data were reportedly from the presidential election held on February 25.

He took the stand as the 25th witness for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Abubakar is contesting the declaration of Bola Tinubu, from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as the presidential election winner.

The witness testified that the deleted results were from Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines, used during the election.

Abubakar and his party believe that the BVAS data would support their claim that the election was unfairly tipped in Tinubu’s favour.

Under questioning by Chris Uche, the lead counsel for the petitioners, Nwala said he had inspected and analyzed 110 BVAS machines used in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to Nwala, the INEC had deleted the machines’ information to reuse them for subsequent state elections.

However, during cross-examination, INEC’s counsel Abubakar Mahmood countered Nwala’s report, arguing that the 110 machines analyzed were not enough to substantiate any wrongdoing by the Commission.

Mahmood noted that over 3,263 BVAS devices were used during the presidential election, making Nwala’s sample size insufficient.

Legal teams for both President Tinubu and the APC called for the court to dismiss Nwala’s report, citing numerous errors.

However, Uche insisted that the evidence provided by Nwala was critical due to the technological nature of the election.

Post Nwala’s testimony, the petitioners presented certified copies of INEC’s Forms EC8A from multiple Local Government Areas in various states.

The court accepted these despite objections from INEC, President Tinubu, and the APC.

The court proceedings will continue, with the petitioners closing their case and the defendants commencing their defence.

The Middle Belt Forum of Nigeria said that they are not happy with the former governor of Kaduna state, El-Rufai, says he’s a religious bigot who has been inciting religious hate in Nigeria.

The group said that they are not in support of what El-Rufai is doing, he has been making religious speech that could cause a big problem in Nigeria and such a person is not meant to be a leader in Nigeria.

The group said “El-Rufai is planning with other group to turn Nigeria into a Muslim country, and we have condemned the act”

El-Rufai was a big supporter of the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket before the presidential election, he’s planning to use religion to take over the leadership of Nigeria. He wants to stop the Christian faith from having any chance of getting leadership in Nigeria ever again”.

The group said that they are not in support of the El-Rufai agenda to turn Nigeria into a Muslim country, and they condemn the act, and are also ashamed of his act.
