Jack Obinyan, a social media influencer and top campaigner of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 election, on Wednesday said that Lagos State “is clearly going Obi’s way”.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Bola Tinubu, the presidential flag-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is a former governor of Lagos State. In fact, the 70-year-old is widely believed to be the de facto godfather of Lagos politics and some states in the southwest.

In spite of that, Obinyan sees Obi upsetting the APC candidate in the 2023 poll.

Sharing images he said are “Google analytics of people’s interests”, Obinyan, a former Senior Special Adviser on New Media to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, wrote on his verified Facebook page: “Despite all the noise Peter Obi is gaining so much grounds.

“Atiku is mitigating BAT like no man’s business in the Core North, we told you guys but you won’t listen.

“You can clearly see that the greatest loser here, who is being reduced to an SW local Champion (with the exception of Lagos, that is clearly going Obi’s way) is BAT (Bola Ahmed Tinubu).”

The Presidential standard-bearer of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Peter Obi, has said that the former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, lied about security in Anambra State during his (Obi’s) tenure.

Speaking at the Youth Conference of APC, a party he was their past chairman, Oshiomhole said it was Obi’s successor that started demolishing houses of kidnappers in Anambra State. Oshiomhole also said that it was Obi that brought the Bakassi Boys into the state.

Replying through his Media Adviser, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, Obi stated that the records were clear over who did what on security in Anambra State.

Citing mischief and bias as Oshoimhole’s motivation, Obienyem said: “It is a pity that a former governor, who ought to be informed, would credit the bringing into the state of Bakassi boys to Mr. Peter Obi, when elementary enquiry would have shown any genuine seeker that it was under Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, which was even before Sen. Chris Ngige, that Bakassi people operated in Anambra State.”

As the 2023 election draws near, former Local Government Chairmen who served between 2016 and 2019 under the administration of Ogun State former Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday dumped the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Labour Party, (LP) has condemned the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led government over the closure of Ladipo and Oyingbo markets in the state due to claims of indiscriminate waste disposal by traders.

Naija News reports that Lagos State Government had recently announced that it will be shutting down both Ladipo and Oyingbo markets in the state indefinitely by Thursday 22nd September 2022 due to claims of indiscriminate waste disposal by traders.

According to the state government, the traders were guilty of reckless waste dumping, non-payment for waste services, and general poor waste management.

Reacting to the development, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Arabambi Abayomi, in a statement on Monday night, accused the All Progressives Congress-led government of being an “intolerant and highly crude government”, adding that “being completely dictatorial, Hitlerite and recklessly very undemocratic is what it is now being known” of the government.

He further expressed shock at the development and frown at the excuse, describing it as “deceptive” and accusing the government of being intolerant, discriminatory and oppressive.

He also quoted the Nigerian constitution, which guarantees every citizen the freedom to live and work in any part of the country, warning that people’s rebellion are born by oppressive and wicked Governance.

The Ogun State Chairman of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, Apostle (Dr) Dàvid Ahmed Otaru, has described as a great insult on the entire Christians in Nigeria, the persistent use of competency as an excuse for choosing a Muslim-Muslim ticket by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for the 2023 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview in Sagamu, Otaru urged the party and its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party to stop insulting the entire body of Christ in the North.

“You need to consider the secular nature of Nigeria and the fact that religion and ethnicity are the too major issues that easily divide Nigerians,” he said.

Apostle Otaru, born as a Muslim in Sokoto, is a Northerner from Kogi State, before becoming a Christian, and later the Founder/General Overseer of Signs & Wonders Church of God (Antioch Assembly) in Ogun State.

His words: “If Tinubu can fight against ethnic injustice by saying, “Awa Lokan, Yorùbá Lokan, Emi Lokan”, meaning it is “Our turn, Yorùbá’s turn, and it’s my turn” to be the next president and they reasoned with him. If the Chairman of the South West Governors Forum, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, could be saying the presidential power must come to the South, for fairness, equity and justice, then, they should also reason with millions of Christians across Nigeria, who are saying, once the presidential candidate is a Muslim then the running mate must be a Christian.”

He explained further that if they don’t want and can’t tolerate injustice, they shouldn’t whip others, especially Christians, with the rod of injustice.

Analysing the implications of the single faith ticket, the seasoned cleric said the APC was trying to lay a bad foundation of great religious crisis that could expose the country to Islamic fanatics abroad and make them to continue to besiege the country to perpetrate their political religious agenda.

According to him, the incumbent president who has been ruling the nation for eight years is a Muslim. And if an APC Christian president won’t succeed him in 2023, because of the “Emi Lokan (It’s my turn)” agitation, then they must be fair enough to allow a Christian to be the Vice President.

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has denied ordering the state police command to teargas supporters of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who staged a one million-man march for their preferred candidate in the state capital.

Umahi was reacting to the allegation that he ordered the state police command to stop the supporters who converged at Pastoral Centre, Nkwagu Ugbala Ground Arena, People’s Club, and other locations in the state.

The governor, in a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Abakaliki by the Special Assistant on Media and Strategy, Mr Chooks Oko, said the alleged disruption of the Obidient movement in the state is false.

According to the statement: “The rumours making the rounds that he (Umahi) ordered the disruption of a gathering in support of one of the presidential candidates in the 2023 elections is not true.

“The Governor of Ebonyi State is certainly not aware of any disruption of any gathering as he didn’t order any. He is a democrat who believes firmly in the rule of law. If it is true that the police dispersed people, the answer will surely rest with the police,” he stated.

DAILY POST gathered that Obi’s supporters in Ebonyi State reportedly defiled the disruption and marched around the state.

However, it was gathered that the march paralyzed economic activities, as thousands of business owners and traders shut down their businesses to join in the Obi-dent movement in the state.

One of the leaders of the groups, Obinna Uko, who spoke to journalists in Abakaliki shortly after the rally, commended Obi’s supporters.

He described as ill-motivated the attempted attack and disruption of the rally by policemen. He urged supporters of the former Anambra governor to remain resolute in their support.

The communiqué stated that the retreat was not only important, but very critical for the party in its resolve to deliver Nigeria as Nigerians were set to take back their country for the purpose of national rebirth.

The Labour Party has said the masses of Nigeria are its structure for the 2023 general elections.

This is contained in a communiqué jointly signed by the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, and the National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, issued at the end the party’s National Leadership Retreat in Abuja on Friday.

According to it, Nigeria is at a crossroads and the Labour Party is the only credible option for national salvation.

It said the retreat was held to discuss crucial party matters, observations, proposals and relevant resolutions ahead of 2023.

The communiqué stated that the retreat was not only important, but very critical for the party in its resolve to deliver Nigeria as Nigerians were set to take back their country for the purpose of national rebirth.

The News Agency of Nigeria quoted the communiqué as stating, “Across all regions and segments, the people are committed to break loose from the old order and ready to embrace a prospering one with the Labour Party as the platform of convergence and common vehicle for achieving it.

“The dispossessed and exploited people and masses of Nigeria are the structure of the party and should, therefore, be the focal point of the ongoing struggle of the party to rescue Nigeria."

As opposition candidates cry foul over the NOI polls which puts Peter Obi ahead of two other major contestants for the 2023 presidential poll, the media office of the Obi-Datti campaign is relishing the result, saying the poll by ANAP Foundation, a frontline international agency is a stimulus for the obidient family to do more work ahead of 2023 elections.

A statement from the Obi-Datti Campaign said the OBIdient family is not a tribal, religious geopolitical platform but honest Nigerians determined by the single desire to take -back their country.

The statement urged all Obidients to remain focused on gaining the big prize in 2023 and see the present recognition as a call to action.
The statement reads in part:

“For us in the Obidient family, our primary task is to take back Nigeria and rebuild it. To achieve this Herculean mission every observation, either in the form of surveys or public criticisms of our efforts are a welcome development as such views provide us with further knowledge of our weaknesses and strengths.

“Obidient Movement remains devoid of religious, tribal and geographical inhibitions but with the report, some lessons have been picked on some vital areas for more efforts.

‘Taking back Nigeria’ which is the unmistaken goal of the Obi-Datti candidacy is a task that must be done if we still desire a strong country, and it should involve everybody of all classes and creeds who are pained by the state of our dear nation. All efforts therefore must be done to bring all progressive minds onboard.

“Even if we have grey areas in the report, our responsibility is to pick the lessons therein and remain focused with our eyes glued to the ball while noting the credibility of the organization (ANAP Foundation) that conducted the survey”

On Thursday, a statement credited to Ismail Omipidan, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Gboyega Oyetola, claimed that the recently launched Yiaga Africa Election Result Analysis Dashboard report for the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections “confirms” that the governor who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress won the election.

Acivil society organisation under the aegis of Yiaga Africa has accused the Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola of twisting their recent report to claim his victory during the state governorship election that took place on July 16, 2022.

On Thursday, a statement credited to Ismail Omipidan, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Gboyega Oyetola, claimed that the recently launched Yiaga Africa Election Result Analysis Dashboard report for the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections “confirms” that the governor who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress won the election.

Ademola Adeleke, the PDP candidate, was declared the winner of the election, having polled 403,371 votes to defeat Governor Oyetola who got 375,027.

According to Mr Omipidan, the Certified True Copy (CTC) obtained from INEC after the election across 10 local government areas in 749 polling units showed that accreditation through BVAS was less than the number of votes cast in those units.

Reacting, Yiaga Africa, in a statement on Friday released by the Group Executive Director, Samson Itodo, described the CPS’ statement as untrue.

The statement reads, “Yiaga Africa stands by its position on the outcome of the 2022 Ekiti and Osun Governorship election.

“We outrightly reject this assertion and categorically state that the ERAD report did not in any way suggest the winner or loser of the recently concluded June/July, Ekiti and Osun Governorship elections. Instead, the ERAD report highlighted certain shortcomings with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s upload of results to the INEC Results Viewing Portal and recommendations for improving the process ahead of the 2023 elections.

“Yiaga Africa deployed a comprehensive election observation methodology in Ekiti and Osun governorship elections. First, Yiaga Africa observed the pre-election period and deployed citizen observers on election day using the Parallel Vote Tabulation to provide timely information on the process and verify election results.

“The PVT election observation methodology is a globally recognized election observation tool used by citizen groups. It is one of the most accurate and reliable election observation methodology that can independently verify the accuracy of election day results released by INEC. Yiaga Africa has deployed the PVT in 12 elections in Nigeria including the 2019 Presidential election.

“The ERAD report corroborates the PVT findings contained in the report on the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections released on August 27 2022 which clearly revealed that the results announced by NEC in the Ekiti and Osun election were consistent with votes cast at the polling units. Had the official results been changed at the Ward, LGA or State collation centers, the official results would not have fallen within the Yiaga Africa PVT estimated ranges.

“Thus, we strongly stand by our PVT findings which have in no way contradicted the ERAD report.

The group said it deployed the ERAD, in partnership with Channels Television, to promote transparency in the transmission of election results through the download and analysis of polling units’ results uploaded on IReV.

“The ERAD report launched on 9 September 9 2022 identified the successes, critical lessons learnt and gaps during the upload of election results on the IReV Portal for the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections. Some of the gaps include; the upload of incorrect election forms, blurry images and poorly captured photographs of result sheets, and wrongly imputed and omitted data on results sheets amongst others.

“Thus, the ERAD did not process 87 (2.3 per cent) out of the 3,763 polling unit results in the state. In the report, Yiaga Africa offered recommendations for INEC to improve its use of the IREV portal in future elections.

“Following an analysis of the pre-election data released by INEC on collected PVCs per polling unit in Osun state, Yiaga Africa identified inconsistencies in the data of collected PVCs in 0.7 per cent (30 Polling Units) of polling units in 12 Local Governments in Osun state. The total number of collected PVCs was slightly higher than the number of registered voters in those polling units.

“Specifically, Yiaga Africa spotted a difference of 1,882 PVCs in the 30 polling units. While this discrepancy in the pre-election data for PVC collection is inconsequential to the outcome of the elections, Yiaga Africa calls on INEC to clarify the reasons behind the discrepancies observed between the number of PVCs collected and the number of registered voters.

“Again, we wish to state unequivocally the ERAD report which has been publicly released does not contradict our PVT findings in any way. While political parties have the right to reference our reports, they must do so with a high sense of responsibility. “Yiaga Africa restates its commitment to sharing accurate data and information on the conduct of elections and results based on its election observation methodology.”
