Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has accused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar of having ties with the detained terrorists’ negotiator, Tukur Mamu and his principal, Ahmad Gumi.

DAILY POST recalls that Tukur Mamu, who is said to be a spokesman of the controversial Islamic cleric, Gumi was arrested in Egypt on Tuesday and repatriated on Wednesday.

The suspect is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, who raided his home on Thursday and recovered several items.

However, in a statement he personally signed on Friday, Fani-Kayode, a lawyer, alleged that both “Mamu and Gumi are associates of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Waziri Adamawa and the presidential candidate of the opposition PDP”.

According to him, Atiku Abubakar, Ahmad Gumi and Tukur Mamu “are close NOT merely because they took a picture but because they have TRAVELLED together all over the country in private jets on several occasions.

The statement reads in part, “I say they are close to Atiku Abubakar because they supported him and campaigned for him in the 2019 presidential election and they are supporting him and lobbying and campaigning for him again for the 2023 presidential election.

“I say they are close to Atiku Abubakar because they are hardline and strong supporters and backers of the PDP, they have spent plenty of time with him over the last few years and they are in touch with him on a regular basis.

“I say they are close to Atiku Abubakar because they are amongst those that insisted that he should run for the Presidency once again in 2023, clinch the presidential ticket of the PDP and keep power in the North even though the party had zoned the position to the South and even though it has a Northern National Chairman.

“I say they are close to Atiku Abubakar because they have a pathological hatred for and are in stiff opposition to President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC and the Federal Government and they are committed to ensuring that they are removed from power.

“There can be no doubt that their relationship is deep and profound and this requires a thorough examination and clinical investigation by the security and intelligence agencies”.

Traffic police and road safety corps are still very much available in Lagos. He simply created LASTMA to complement the efforts of these other agencies as they were undermanned.

This was the very first time that na the history of Nigeria that a state government would attempt to create a paramilitary agency at the state level and today, it has become a huge success that other states have copied.

This is the kind of bold, innovative and courageous ideas that Tinubu will bring onboard to solve various problems confronting Nigeria.

He created LASTMA for traffic management, LIRS for revenue generation, LAWMA for waste management, RRS for security management, Office of the public defender for providing free legal services to those who can’t afford it, IPP for improved electricity supply, BRT for mass transportation, free WAEC fees for all public school students etc. All these ideas have now been copied by so many states including FG.

Now tell us just one new idea that Peter Obi introduced as governor of Anambra state that has been copied by FG or any other state in the country.

Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, eligible voters across Nigeria have overwhelming rejected Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, preferring to vote a mixed-faith ticket, a new poll has revealed

The poll was conducted by the African polling Institute (API), in partnership with BusinessDay.

The result revealed that 88 percent and 84 percent of the respondents said they would not vote for the same religion candidature for the same ticket at the presidential level, either a Muslim-Muslim ticket or a Christian-Christian ticket-respectively, but would rather vote for a mixed faith ticket at 82 percent.

The poll adopted quantitative approach involving telephone interviews administered to target respondent, in which a total of 1,135 completed interviews were captured out of 3,072 calls made, representing a response rate of approximately 37 percent.

The study also used a stratified Random Sampling Technique to representatively select citizens in all 36 states of the nation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Some section of Nigerians, especially Christian leaders, have condemned the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who settled for same-faith presidential ticket.

Tinubu, former governor of Lagos State, had picked Kashim Shettima, former Borno State governor as his running mate ahead of next February’s presidential poll.

The issue has continued to cause division in the APC, leading to defection of key leaders in recent weeks.

The poll further revealed that majority of Nigerians (87 percent), express displeasure at the state of affairs, stating that the country is heading in the wrong direction.

Equally, only 7 percent of respondents affirmed the country is heading in the right direction, followed by 6 percent who refused to disclose their stand on the state of the country.

A further breakdown of the poll result shows that 71 percent of the respondents do not consider ethnicity as a factor in deciding who should lead the country, while only 17 percent affirmed ethnicity to be considered and 12 percent remain neutral.

The respondents identified five top institutions with significant roles in the 2023 general election as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) 80 percent, the Police (20 percent), media (19 percent), the Army (15 percent), and electoral monitor and observers (13 percent) amongst others.

API is an independent, non-profit and non-partisan opinion research think-tank, which conducts opinion polls, surveys, social research, and evaluation studies at the intersection of democracy, governance, economic conditions, markets, and public life.
