TheGoodJoe: Look at Mikel and Okocha. Two brilliant tens. Look at their style of play. You will see Okocha is more reliant on his individual skills to break defences and midfields, while Mikel is aware of the positioning of almost every player on the pitch. Mikel knows when the wing back is overlapping, when the defensive midfielder is off position. When a striker is making a dashing run to space.
Mikel is more tactical than a technical player because he relies on the team's tactical play to excel. Not that Mikel is not technical on the ball. He is also brilliant but that is not where his game lies.
Same with Okocha. Okocha is also tactical but more technical.
So as I said, we have both in various degrees in each player but if a player like Ronaldinho, Okocha, Dhorasoo, Recoba, Denilson, Neymar, Hazard rely more on their techniques than tactics, we class them Technical players.
Players like Scholes, Keane, Pirlo, Gerard, Xavi, Oliseh and Xabi Alonso that rely more on their tactical efficiency, we class them as tactical players. While your explanation is clear and detailed I still insist there's hardly anything known as a "Tactical Player" in modern football. Good spatial awareness from very good players like instinct, positioning and stuff (which are honed in training) yes but as for the "Tactical Player" tag. Nah. Not buying. |

chrisooblog: tactical ability has to do with your spatial awareness, your judgment (i.e knowing when to press or drop back), positioning, movement. how do you think the best strikers score so many goals? it's because they have mastered the tactical aspects of the game knowing when to make runs to evade opposition defenders. knowing that even though he has the technical ability to dribble his opponent a simple pass to a free team mate is more efficient and devastating Attributes like positioning is and judgement are things some players are just better at. Does that make them "tactical" players? However, even those attributes are developed further in training "UNDER A COACH". |

During football discussions by world renowned football analysts, have you ever heard them say things like "the player got his tactics wrong?" or "he's such a tactically gifted player" or "the player's tactics has been excellent throughout the season" etc.
Anything tactical is the Coach's input please. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by iSlayer: 2:45pm On Jun 21, 2019 |
TheGoodJoe: I think it is just a misconception. Technique is what we refer as skills while tactical play relies more in a broaden understanding of the team play.
It is a fact that tactical players are taking over but I think it has been a norm but underrated. From Oliseh, Effenberg, Ballack, Pirlo, Scholes, Xabi Alonso, Lampard, Gerard, Roy Keane, Cambiasso, Vieira and a host of others were equally as important as the technical guys like Recoba, Overmars, Ronald De Boer, Okocha etc.
However, in the modern game, there is more emphasis on tactical play and the need for more tactical coherency. For instance, we see Zinchenko who is more tactical than technical playing as a full back. Thus, increasing the need for tactical precision.
City still relies on technical forwards like Aguero, Gabby Jesus, Sterling, Sane and Mahrez to break down defences. But, they are trained to be more tactical than technical to promote unison in tactical displays of the players to improve the team's tactical performance. There's hardly anything like a tactical player. Tactical aspect of the game has to do with the TEAM PLAY, How the team uses the space of the pitch together in a coordinated manner, What shape the team takes when in possession and when not in possession. How the coach can harness the abilities of the individual players. The Playing Style of the team - Long Balls, Possession Play, Counter Attack etc. How then TheGoodJoe can a single player be 'tactical'? |

mank1234: Argentina at the mercy of Columbia. If Columbia decide to loose to Paraguay, Argentina will be out irrespective of their result against Qatar. But there's a 3rd place spot Argentina can take. I remember Mikael2 telling me days ago that there's no 3rd place finish in Copa America. Too bad. |

TheGoodJoe: I think is best to expantiate the terms and easily define what we are trying to point out.
I class them as technical and tactical players. All players have these in grades. Some are more technical than the other. While some are more tactical.
Technique is individual ability on the ball, while tactics has to do a more understanding of the game in what I term a coaches angle.
Ronaldinho reings King on the technical aspect, while Xavi reigns King on the tactical aspect. I see Xavi as the next Guardiola.
So to answer the question, Ronaldinho is more technical. The bolded part is GOLDEN. |

Who is more technical between Ronaldinho and Xavi Now you are being cunning. Why didn't you ask between Ronaldinho and Busquets? After saying Busquets is more technical earlier. |

Mickael2: When you talk about technical players why would you put Ronaldinho ahead of Pirlo? Not to talk of Xavi and Iniesta? Dude, I am going to drop this but just know that saying Ronaldinho is more technical than even Busquets means you do not understand the term at all. Ronaldinho is way ahead. |
