PoliticsOpinion: 5 Ways The APC Is Just Like The PDP by Isoni(op): 10:47am On Jun 11, 2015
Fela sang that in Africa every military government calls itself something but at the end of the day they are all the same because its Soja go, Soja Come. Two weeks into Buhari’s APC led government, a strong feeling of de javu is settling upon Nigeria. In 2011, Tambuwal defied Jonathan and the PDP hierarchy and became Speaker. Today, Bukola Saraki defied the APC hierarchy and became Senate President, even while the President and Commander In Chief was meeting with party big bosses.

And they say they are progressives. See 5 reasons why APC is just like PDP. No difference just in name.

Democracy, what is democracy?– Under PDP, the party hierarchy wanted to control everything and everybody. That was why we had the Tambuwal situation in which the party wanted Hon Mulikat Adeola from Oyo State to be Speaker but Tambuwal, and a number of PDP stalwarts including Bukola Saraki worked with opposition parties like the CPC and the ACN to install Tambuwal. Now, APC is doing the same and now, Bukola Saraki has pulled a Tambuwal on them today.

It is personal interest before nation: Can you ask why it is impossible for the four gladiators in the national assembly to agree on who becomes what? Is that all in the interest of the nation or just to satisfy the personal ambition of everyone just like we had in PDP.

Roforofo is the name of the game: APC is like PDP because if dem no fight dia bodi no go calm down. They say they are democrats and progressives but see the bloody nose they have given themselves over Senate presidency and Speakership. The more things CHANGE the more they remain the same.

Buhari under hostage just like Jonathan: Jonathan as president had to contend with overbearing and conniving party members from Anenih to Muazu and Buhari seems stuck in the same quagmire. Bola Tinubu and other power brokers seem hell bent on making him not ‘see road’. SGF he can’t appoint. Chief of staff, for where? Even Saraki has allegedly called Osibanjo, the Vice President, a mere commissioner. O ma se!

No permanent friends/enemies: Just last year Bukola Saraki led five governors out of the PDP in what a lot of analysts still say contributed massively to the loss of the 2015 elections by the PDP, today the PDP just saved his arse. Did you hear Tinubu who described OBJ as the worst thing that happened to Nigeria call him navigator of new Nigeria last year? That is the way of politicians. APC is looking more and more like the PDP.

ComputersWindows 10: Nine Things You Need To Know by Isoni(op): 3:03pm On Jun 10, 2015
Windows 8 has had a bit of a tumultuous run, something Microsoft is hoping to turn around with Windows 10. I've spent the last eight months running the Windows Technical Preview on desktops, laptops and tablets, watching it evolve from interesting concept to the my primary operating system. The release date is scarcely a month away, but there's still quite a bit of ground to cover before Windows 10 is ready for primetime.

If you're new to the party and have questions, we've got some answers on the latest step for Windows.

1. When can I upgrade? And how much will it cost?
Windows 10 will be available on July 29, and it'll be free for one year, for anyone running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. If you're running an earlier version of Windows or don't upgrade by that time, you'll be able to pick up Windows 10 Home for $119, and Windows 10 Pro for $199.

Microsoft is also asking Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users to reserve their free copy of Windows 10. If you do, you'll get a notification when Windows 10 is ready to be installed, and have the option to schedule your installation for the most appropriate time for you.

2. I've got a desktop, a tablet, and am considering a Windows Phone. How will that work?
Microsoft's ultimate goal is to make Windows 10 the sole operating system powering all of your devices, and Continuum will be the driving force behind that. Windows 10 knows when you're interacting with a keyboard and mouse or using a touchscreen and will react accordingly. If you're using a keyboard and mouse, you'll be treated to the standard Windows experience. If you're on a tablet, you'll encounter fullscreen apps and a finger-friendly Start menu. Pop off the keyboard on a two-in-one device like the Surface Pro 3, and the interface will smoothly transform into tablet mode -- if you want it to, of course.

The situation on phones is a little different, as there will be a Windows 10 Mobile. But Microsoft has also shown Windows Phones that transform into PCs once a mouse and keyboard are connected -- there's no word on when we'll see that capability on Windows Phones.

3. What about apps?
Microsoft wants you to be able to buy an app from the Windows Store once, and expect it to run on all of your devices. These universal apps will than adopt whatever form is appropriate for the device you're using, whether you're on a tablet or a PC. We've already seen a taste of this with Microsoft's Office suite, which the full Office experience in a format that's appropriate for your device. I wouldn't recommend editing spreadsheets on your smartphone, but it works, and you'll have all of Excel (and PowerPoint, and Word, and the rest) at your disposal.

4. Those full-screen "Modern" apps were a pain. What ever happened to them?
Those touch-friendly, full-screen apps that debuted with Windows 8 were alternately known as the "Metro" or "Modern" design. With Windows 10, full-screen apps will be optional. Let's say you're using a convertible 2-in-1 device, like the Surface Pro 3, for example. Thanks to Continuum, when the keyboard is docked you'll see the standard desktop with Windows 10's "new" old-school Start menu. Once you take the device off of the keyboard base, the OS will allow you to switch to the finger-friendly tablet mode Windows 8 users are likely familiar with.

5. I actually liked those Modern apps, and bought a few. What happens now?
Existing Modern apps take advantage of Windows 10's Continuum automatically, so you'll have little to worry about there. When you're in tablet mode they'll behave like they always have. If you're in desktop mode, they'll convert into a normal windowed app that you can drag around at your leisure.

6. And the Start menu?
If you hated Windows 8's full-screen Start screen, you're in luck: the new Start menu harkens back to the good old days, sitting on the left side of the screen and presenting that familiar pop-up column of shortcuts. And if you liked Windows 8's approach, there's something here for you too: the new menu will incorporate Live Tiles and can be customized.

Continuum means you'll get the best of both worlds, as you can jump between tablet and desktop modes on the fly. And if you never want to see that full screen start menu again, there's an option for that too.

7. Never mind the apps -- I need to get things done. Any improvements on that front?
Windows 10 beefs up Snap, the function that lets you quickly arrange apps side by side, with a new quadrant layout that lets you split your display up among up to four apps. There's also support for multiple virtual desktops (finally), so you can keep all your work apps in one place and quickly slide back to the desktop with your blogs and Reddit once your boss walks away. And then there's the task view button that lives on the taskbar. Click it, and you'll get a quick look at all of your open files, windows, and desktops.

Microsoft's Cortana virtual assistant has also made the jump from phone to desktop. Say "Hey, Cortana" after turning on the voice recognition feature and you can bark commands at your PC, whether you're searching for directions or checking the weather. Cortana will also be able to send emails and text messages that you dictate to your contacts -- that functionality isn't available in the Windows Technical preview just yet, however.

8. Is Internet Explorer still around?
Yes and no. Internet Explorer will remain a part of Windows for compatibility reasons, but it's been replaced by a brand new browser, called Microsoft Edge. The browser will offer all of the amenities we've come to expect from modern browsers, including support for extensions, a reading mode that strips websites down to their bare essentials, and a new rendering engine that's appreciably zippy while you're browsing the web.

And there are a few new tricks baked in, too. Microsoft's Virtual Assistant Cortana will drop suggestions into the address bar as you search, and gather important details on business and restaurant websites into a sidebar. Click the Web Note button, and you'll be able to annotate what you're looking at and share your notes via email, or through OneNote. The browser is still using the codename Project Spartan in the most recent build of Windows 10 (Build 10130, as of this writing) and these features aren't quite ready for prime time, but the future looks promising for Microsoft's new browser.

9. Will Windows 10 run on my machine?
If your PC is only a few years old and you're already running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, you should be fine. The minimum requirements for Windows 10 are a 1GHz processor, at least 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of hard drive space.

Some older peripherals like USB floppy drives will run into trouble while you're upgrading. Some software might not make the cut, including some app that were pre-installed by your PC's manufacturer. There are also two versions of Windows 10 -- Windows 10 Home and Pro -- and the version you get will vary, depending on the version of Windows 7 or 8 you're running now. Microsoft's Windows 10 Specifications site has the full details, so you can ensure that your PC or tablet makes the transition intact.

PoliticsPunish Saraki, Dogara– Lagos APC by Isoni(op): 7:54am On Jun 10, 2015
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives
Congress has urged the national leadership of the
party to punish the Senate President, Bukola Saraki,
and the Speaker of the House of Representatives,
Yakubu Dogara, for anti-party activities.

Lagos APC, in a statement by its publicity secretary,
Mr. Joe Igbokwe, said it was saddening that Saraki
could ‘jump into bed’ with the Peoples Democratic
Party in his desperation for power.

Igbokwe described the re-election of Senator Ike
Ekweremadu as the Deputy Senate President as an
embarrassment to the APC.

The statement read, “The purported election of
Senator Saraki and Dogara as the Senate President
and Speaker respectively, is a clear transgression of
both the tenets of democracy and party politics. At
this early stage, the APC must come down strongly to mete out sanctions and punishments against
treacherous members that perpetrated this ugly
charade at this early stage of the party’s life and
history.

“As a party and given the circumstances of our
present politics, the APC stands no risk of being
eroded by this treachery. Rather, we see the clear
road to enforce discipline in the treacherous conduct of some members of the National Assembly.

“We see the need for the party to wield the big stick
now to send a message home that treachery will not
profit those who might want to cash in on similar
circumstances to spite the party and cash personal
benefits in the long run. It is certain that these
betrayers are not members of the APC and we feel
the party must weigh in now and discipline these
betrayers.”

PoliticsEl-rufai Reduces Kaduna Commissioners From 24 To 13 by Isoni(op): 4:50pm On Jun 09, 2015
In a bid to cut the cost of governance, the Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, has reduced the number of ministries in the state from 19 to 13.

In a statement signed by Samuel Aruwan, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, El’Rufai has also placed strict limits on the number of aides that the 13 commissioners can recruit to support the discharge of their duties.

According to the statement, El-Rufai has repeatedly emphasiszed the need for Kaduna state government to direct its resources to deliver public services and that such a move requires a reduction in the proportion consumed by government.

Similarly, the Kaduna State government has announced the restructuring of its ministries from 19 to 13.

“This is intended to cut costs, spur efficiency and improve service delivery.” It stated.

It therefore stated that the machinery of government will now be driven by the following ministries:

-Ministry of Justice,
-Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry
-Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism
-Ministry of Local Government
-Ministry of Finance
-Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture
-Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources
-Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development
-Ministry of Water Resources
-Ministry of Health and Human Services
-Ministry of Education, Science and Technology
-Ministry of Budget and Planning
-Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport.

It also said that the realignment of mandates has also resulted in the emergence of two new departments that is : The erstwhile Ministry of Lands, Survey and Country Planning is being moved to the Governor’s Office as a department and the former Ministry of Rural and Community Development becomes a department in the Deputy Governor’s Office.

Also affected by the restructuring is the Ministry of Information whose functions have now been decentralized.

It stated that each ministry will henceforth have its own public relations unit attached to the office of its chief executive.

All courses are relevant and important. All you need do is strive to excel in your chosen field of study. Also you need God's Grace and favour. Remember Late Dora Akunyili a trained pharmacist was appointed Minister of Information. The last time I checked Nkem Owoh was a trained Electrical Engineer.

Finally God's given talent is the best education one can have.

PoliticsSouth Sudan Seeks Nigeria’s Assistance On Security Training by Isoni(op): 4:43pm On Jun 05, 2015
South Sudan Vice President, James Igga, who said this while responding to questions from journalists at the inaugural meeting of the South Sudan Nigerian Chambers of Commerce and Industries in Abuja on Friday, explained that the security situation in his country had improved tremendously.

Igga stated that the peace process in his country would resume soon, noting that the crisis would have been resolved but for the shifting positions of the rebel leaders whom he blamed for the continuous violence in parts of South Sudan.

The VP called on Nigerian businessmen and investors to take advantage of the economic opportunities in the young nation, adding that South Sudan has large tracts of fertile land as well as untapped mineral resources, which serious-minded entrepreneurs could invest in.

Igga said, “We need capacity training for teachers, the civil service and students; we also need security training for the security personnel. We want Nigeria to assist with the training of the Army and the police.

“You know, most of them were guerrillas and if you are a guerrilla, you learn to shoot at people, but you can imagine if you convert such a person into the police, what would happen? So we need security training for our personnel.”

Meanwhile, a South African expatriate, Dezray Naidoo, has tasked the Federal Government to focus on development of tourism in the country, stating that the nation stands to gain a lot economically and socially.

According to her, Nigeria could earn huge foreign exchange if the new government implements policies that encourage the tourism and hospitality industry to grow, stressing that her country, South Africa, generates huge revenue from the sector.

PoliticsJTF Seizes Vessel Carrying 1,500 Metric Tons Of Stolen Oil In Bayelsa by Isoni(op): 3:26pm On Jun 05, 2015
The Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta, Operation Pulo Shield, on Friday said it has impounded a vessel laden with 1,500 metric tons of illegally refined automotive gas oil.

The spokesperson of the JTF, Ado Isa, a lieutenant colonel, told reporters at the task force’s headquarters in Yenagoa on Friday that the vessel registered as MV Europort was seized at Foropa waterways in Bayelsa.
Mr. Ado said operatives of the JTF on patrol duties at about 2.30 a.m. on June 2 arrested the vessel in Forropa creeks in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area in Bayelsa.

“The 2,000 metric tons capacity vessel was arrested by the JTF operatives patrol team following a tip off at about 02.30 hrs on 2 June, 2015,” Mr. Ado said.

“The vessel was discovered carrying 1,500 metric tons of illegally refined automotive gas oil. The suspects boarded a speed boat and sailed into the high sea on sighting the JTF troops.”

According to the JTF spokesperson, the vessel, stationed at Foropa creeks, is currently being guarded by the troops as efforts are intensified to apprehend the suspected oil thieves and crew of the vessel.
He said in another development, troops of the task force operating in Eleme at Port Harcourt seized a truck laden with 33,000 liters of suspected stolen crude.

Mr. Ado said the truck, with registration number Anambra 784 AWK, was arrested at Onne and destroyed with its contents.
The driver of the truck reportedly absconded on sighting the JTF troops.

“It is hoped that these arrests will discourage other intending criminals from any act of illegal oil related crimes which is a severe economic crime to our great country, Nigeria,” he said.

“Consequently, I beckon on the good people of Bayelsa and by extension, the Niger Delta to support the ‘Zero Tolerance Campaign’ of the JTF Commander, Maj.-Gen Emmanuel Atewe against oil theft and illegalities. We also solicit timely information from the people to enable the task force track miscreants in the Niger Delta region.”
