Prof Corruption: Why do Igbo like the word "most" ? Most educated, most successful, most enlightened, most this most that.

Toaskarity: I am from oko too, this man house is opposite my dad house,i normally go to their house on christmas to eat tho i hardly see him(ekwueme) but the last wife will give me and my cousin new #20 notes then and we will be so happy. Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme (born October 21, 1932) From Oko , Anambra State , Nigeria was the first Vice-President of Nigeria , serving 1979 – 1983.

Education

He started primary school at the St John's Anglican Central School, at Ekwulobia, then he proceeded to King's College , Lagos As an awardee of the Fulbright Scholarship in the United States America (being one of the first Nigerians to gain the award), Alex attended the University of Washington where he earned Bachelors degree in architecture and city planning. He obtained his Masters degree in urban planning. Dr Ekwueme also earned degrees in sociology, history, philosophy and law from University of London. He later proceeded to obtain a Ph.D. in architecture from the University of Strathclyde, before gaining the BL (Honours) degree from the Nigerian Law School .

Career

Alex started his professional career asan Assistant Architect with a Seattle based firm, Leo A. Daly and Associates, and also with the London based firm Nickson and Partners. On his return to Nigeria, he joined ESSO West Africa, Lagos, overseeing the Construction and Maintenance department.

Alex then went on to create a successful private business with his firm - Ekwueme Associates, Architects and Town Planners, the first indigenous architectural firm in Nigeria. His practice flourished with 16 offices spread all over Nigeria and waswound up in preparation for Dr Ekwueme assuming office as the first executive Vice President of Nigeria. Dr. Ekwueme had presided over the Nigerian Institute of Architects and the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria.

He is currently Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Institute ofArchitects . Before Dr. Ekwueme gained national and international limelight as the Vice President of Nigeria in 1979, hewas actively involved in the socio-economic development of his community. In addition to his many public service roles within his community, Dr. Ekwueme has an active Educational Trust Fund that has been responsible for sponsoring the education of several hundred youths to universities in Nigeria and abroad. Dr Ekwueme was a member of the housing sub-committee of the Adebo Salaries and Wages Review Commission. He also served for many years on the board of the Anambra State Housing Development Authority On the national front, Dr Ekwueme participated in the Nigeria National Constitutional Conference (NCC) in Abuja, where he served on the “Committee on the Structure and Framework of the Constitution.

His famous proposals at the NCC for a just and equitable power sharing in Nigeria based on the six geopolitical zones have now come to be accepted as necessary for maintaining a stable Nigerian polity. Dr Ekwueme mobilized the group of 34 eminent Nigerians who risked their lives to stand up against the dictatorship of General Sani Abacha during the era of military rule in Nigeria. He was the founding Chairman of the ruling party in Nigeria and was the first Chairman of the party's Board of Trustees. Dr. Ekwueme is a renowned and prolific philanthropist, public servant and a man of peace.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of Canada based Forum of Federations. He is also a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Council of Elders. Dr Ekwueme was leader of the team assembled by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) for pre-election monitoring for the parliamentary election in Zimbabwe in 2000. He was the leader of the Organisation of Africa Unity (OAU) observer team to theTanzanian Presidential and Parliamentary election in 2000. Dr Ekwueme co-led the 28 member NDI/Carter Centre sponsored ObserverTeam to the Liberian Presidential run-off election in 2005. Most recently Dr Ekwueme was called upon by the ruling party in Nigeria to head the Reconciliation Committee in the wake of intra-party discord and after the recent presidential election. He has been honoured with the Order of the Republic of Guinea and Nigeria, second highest national honours of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON). Dr Ekwueme is the benefactor and Patron of Alex Ekwueme Foundation

He was also a former student of the University of Washington , where he earned his bachelors degree in Architecture. He is a distinguished architect, and was the former president of the Institute of Architects, Nigeria.

Ondo Guber: PDP accepts defeat, congratulates Mimiko 1

ABUJA- THE National Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has accepted defeat and congratulated the Governor-elect in the Saturday Ondo State gubernatorial election, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.

The PDP also commended the people of Ondo State for what it termed their emphatic rejection of tribalism and narrow political adventurism which it stressed were the hallmark of the campaign of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN in the just concluded gubernatorial election.

The PDP in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary on Sunday, Chief Olisa Metuh, however hailed its candidate, Chief Olusola Oke for his courage,determination and doggedness, adding, ‘’though the PDP was not declared the winner of the election, the Party was happy with the performance of its candidate “who obviously joined the race late.”

‘’ How better do Nigerians say no to the drumbeats of tribalism and political narrowness than what the people of Ondo have just done with their votes? It is a quantum forward leap for those who understand the dangers of undue manipulation of national diversity for narrow political whims and a huge set back, utter rejection for the champions of ethnic politics.

Everton striker Victor Anichebe has confirmed he will be the latest player to refuse to wear a‘Kick It Out’ T-shirt.

Anichebe said: “Are we really kicking it out? There’s a situation that’s just happened. I believe in kicking racism out of everything, not just football – kick it out of society.“Situations have happened and I don’t feel the outcome has been just. I won’t wear the T-shirt, I don’t think it’s right to wear it. If other people want to wear it that’s their right.”

yes,on saturday(that's yesterday),someone made a foolish post which is highly contradictory to d christendom and it was rushly brought to d front page to attract comment which ofcourse we know will be negative comment.(2) facebook,google,etc,maynot awards its members,though i don't have any prove,but u can be d originator.let's say having d best positive post in sport,politics,etc, or d year to me,it's not bad.i think it will spur others to do more.

In the Christian churches of today, the preferred champion is David; it is not Jesus.
Situate Jesus within most Old Testament frameworks and he just does not fit. Jesus would never kill any Midianite or Amalekite on the way to the Promised Land as Moses did. He would not have bears kill childrenthat abuse him as Elisha did. Confronted with Goliath as Davidwas, it is more likely Goliath would kill Jesus than that Jesus would kill Goliath.
Throughout his ministry, Jesus killed no one. Instead, he healed all those who came to him for healing. When John and James asked Jesus to call fire from heaven as Elijah did in retaliation against a Samaritan village that denied them free passage to Jerusalem, Jesus rebuked them. He said to them: “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did notcome to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” (Luke 9:55-56).
Like Father, like Son
Jesus says: “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.” (John 14:9). If so, who do we see when we look at Moses, Elijah, Elisha and David? We see servants of God who only second-guessed the Father’s will. But Jesus knows the will of the Father. He said: “I havecome down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me” (John 6:38). What is the will of God, the Father? God requires his sons to lay down their lives out of love for him.
This requirement defined Jesus’ approach to the world. He fought no one and defeated no one. He merely overcame the world. Jesus was required to live in the world without being seduced by the values of the world. He lived in the world without gaining or desiring to gain the world. All the time he was here on earth, he never lost sight of the one reality he expressed emphatically to Pilate: “My kingdom is not of this world.” (John 18:36).
In this process, even his life on earth became disposable. Jesus says: “Therefore my Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it downof myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from my Father.” (John 10:17-18).
Since Jesus is the Good Shepherd,his sheep should follow his example. John says: “As he is, so are we in this world.” (1 John 4:17). Jesus sends his disciples into the world as lambs among wolves. (Luke 10:3). He challenges us, not to be giant-killers, but giant-overcomers. He says: “To him who overcomes I will grant tosit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down withMy Father on His throne.” (Revelation 3:21).
War-mongers
However, the pattern of life of Jesus is not the preferred pattern of life of Christians. Indeed, in most countries of the West, Christians, including the clerics, are the war-mongers. Pat Robertson, an American pastor, even called for the assassination of a head of state, Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. Paradoxically, he saw no contradiction between this and his Christian faith. Another American pastor, Terry Jones, orchestrated the burning of Korans, a move deliberately designed to provoke Moslems. But Jesus never attacked any other person’s faith except his own.
Evangelical Christians in the United States are the very peoplemost likely to reject the teachings of Jesus when it comes to politics. They favour punitive justice, including the execution ofcriminals for capital offences. They would rather billions of dollars be spent on jet-fighters and not on social welfare. They prefer granting tax-breaks for wealthy corporations to helping the poor and the needy. American evangelicals supported the sending of their children to war in Iraq and Afghanistan. In Europe, those claiming to be disciples of the “Prince of Peace” are likely to be the most militaristic. That is not the way ofChrist.
Jesus says: “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye anda tooth for a tooth.’ But I tell younot to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.”(Matthew 5:38-yhr 39). However, Christians do not turn the other cheek; we fight. Christians today are not pacifists. On the contrary, we have been responsible for a great many massacres and for genocide. Christians go to battle. Christians fight wars. Christians fight to defend and protect our interests.
The old wine of David killing Goliath is served regularly in Christendom. We teach this killingto our children. They act in playscelebrating it. But the values of Goliath-killing David are anathema to Christ. David was an ambitious and ruthless politician who initiated, sanctioned, or condoned murder and assassination as a way of eliminating his political rivals. He authorized the murder of Abner and Eshbaal. He plotted the death of Uriah. Even on his death-bed, David was still planning the deaths of two people: Joab and Shimei.
Jesus, on the other hand, does not tell us to kill our enemies. He does not even tell us to fight them. Instead he says: “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those whospitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Matthew 5:44-45).
However, Christians don’t seem to have received this Jesus memo in 2,000 years of church history. In today’s churches, we go to prayer meetings not to pray for our enemies, but to kill them. You can get to one meeting and find one thousand prayer-warriors chanting “die; die; die” in alarmingfrenzy. Who do they want consumed suddenly by Holy Ghost fire? “Every enemy of my marriage; every enemy of my destiny; every power planning to wage war against my divine vision; what are you waiting for, die in the name of Jesus!”
Two champions
This leads to the conclusion that, as a rule, Christians don’t know Jesus; the David who did not kill any Goliaths. But we certainly know the David who killed Goliath. David was a man of blood who lived by the sword. Jesus is a manof peace who warns that: “All who take the sword will perish bythe sword.” (Matthew 26:52).
When we look objectively at the scriptures, we see two champions. In the Old Testament it is David; the man who killed Goliath. In the New Testament it is Jesus, the David who did not kill any Goliaths but was killed by the Goliaths of the priesthood. But we can only have one champion: we cannot have two. In the Christian churches of today, the preferred champion is David; it is not Jesus.
But Jesus warns: “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoeverdesires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” (Matthew 16:24-25).

Jesus is the Author and finisher of the christian faith, not the British! The Bible tells us to look to Jesus; not to the British! Faithful christians are not responsible for the fate of Nigeria today; unfaithful christians contribute to it. Most British Christian are only Christian in name, like many Nigerian Christians, and many Xtians world over.

Barring any last minute hiccup, Abia State Government will commence the probe of eight-year reign of former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu.

According to the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Eze Chikamnayo, the move is in response to increasing pressures on the state government to probe the former governor’s administration following his recent claims in some national dailies that he left no debt behind in 2007.

Chikamnayo said if available records ofhis administration we anything to go by, the former governor will have to respond to so many questions that will arise from the management of the state’s resources while he was in government.

The commissioner further noted that Governor Theodore Orji, who also served in Kalu’s government as chief of staff, has hitherto avoided the temptation of probing his estranged godfather to avoid distractions from his commitment to leave enduring legacies at the end of his tenure in 2015.

“Recently, there has been a lot of anger, irritation and agitation within the Abia populace as a result of the unguarded false utterances being credited to a former governor of the state, Chief Oriji Uzor Kalu. Everybody inAbia knew how the man, his mother and his family left the state in the darkest pit in the annals of governance and because of the restraint, maturity and peaceful disposition of the current governor, he has refused to open the books but preferred to focus on his mission of leaving legacies for Abia posterity.”

“However, as you know, tired of being in oblivion and looking for cheap relevance, the former governor has made some very untrue and provocative utterances to the extent that he claimed that he did not leave debt for the state and other sanctimonious and unimaginable claims,” Chikamnayo said.

“It is time for service, I wil serve you. Nomore labour loss. Vote for me and I will not disappoint you”, he said.
