That list sef na shiit tbh
The only thing credible there na AOT as number 1

How will Demon Slayer S2 not make the list?
Call of the Night no make list?

My Hero Academia number 2? grin wtf

If you consider this season, it's practically impossible not to put Bleach and ChainsawMan

I haven't seen Boochi the Rock but I've heard it's one of the best this season.
Na why that list obviously didn't consider most of this season's shows since they're still airing

The truth is most of the anime on that list are not from this season. They are from earlier in the year.
Even the Spy x family there is the first cour.
Jojo for 1st and 2nd cour. No 3rd cour.
Only like 2 made that list from this season

That's cos anime from this season are still airing...
Bleach just dropped episode 12 and 13 hours ago

ChainsawMan season 1 finale hasn't dropped

did it get a china boost?

Also the market has not been the same since Covid

I read a reddit post some months back as to how Marvel make strict conditions for movie theatres to follow. About minimum number of times to show their movies per week and hours of the day. It is so strict and barely leaves any time for normal movies.

That these businesses are forced to comply or lose rights to air marvel movies

Dunno how true...but if so it's no wonder Marvel movies are sure profit makers

In BP2's case, it has more to do with superhero fatique than anything else.
The film had like 4 weeks with minimal competition to gross a billion but barely made a headway.
I think people are tired of watching superhero movies.
If Marvel and DC want to get fans interested again, they need to reinvent themselves.

These shows you talking about are still part of a franchise. They are not original content as they are adapted from an already standing TV series or even manga. So yeah, they're franchise movies.

Which one is they have a beginning and have an end. Have any of the movies or TV shows I mentioned end? Aren't they ongoing. Abi Naruto, One Piece etc don ease since how many years.

Most of these Korean movies you watch are mostly their best films they have to offer.
You watch them and start thinking ALL or MOST of their content are the same. Most of the Korean movies available for download online are mostly their acclaimed movies. I don't think if you watch the length and breadth of their content you'd be capping this much.

Even at that when you talk of top of the line writing, acting and directing, Hollywood comes out tops by a mile both in quality and quantity.

The number of great Hollywood films are way numerous than these few movies handpicked from various years of Korean cinema.
When you're done, now start dropping top tier Korean TV shows cos this is a TV section. That's when you'd see the gap between both industries.

Inception
The Wolf of Wall Street
Vice
Apocalypto
The Irishman
Once Upon a Time In Hollywood
Atomic Blonde
Se7en
Interstellar
Black Hawk Down
13 Hours
Inglorious Basterds
Django Unchained
Whiplash
The Revenant
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
The Hateful Eight
Gladiator
1917
Dunkirk
12 Years a Slave
Gone Girl
A Quiet Place
The Imitation game
Bird Box
The Conjuring 1&2
Bohemian Rhapsody
V for Vendetta
300
Troy
Get Out
It
It Follows
Hereditary
The Hurt Locker
Zero Dark Thirty
American Sniper
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Machinist
Promising Young Woman
Bladerunner 2049
Midsommar
Everything Everywhere All At Once
X

Almost all of These I've watched...
I still maintain, no other industry matches Hollywood both in quality and quantity. The genres are so diverse.
Note how almost everything aren't franchise movies as you so love to talk about.
again I've made the same point you made before...
About how Korea has thousands of crap no one has heard of. Most of those aren't even subbed.

I've stated here how 99% (exaggerated figure) of everything is trash, both Hollywood and korean

And I also admitted Hollywood is still above all others and stated language barrier as one of the primary reasons. This is because the production quality of most of these movies are lower since they don't generate much internationally.

Hollywood on the other hand has been selling globally for decades and as such more higher quality movies can be produced en masse

Basically, Hollywood is bigger, has more reach, more funds to create more movies etc

Go and see slightly old low budget Korean movies, they are shot with such poor camera quality

The concepts of Izanagi and Izanami is still confusing some Naruto fans in 2022...

If I recall correctly, the Uchiha clan could perfrom Izanagi without Senju cells

Izanagi is based on the technique called The Creation of All Things. Just like it, Izanagi turns imagination into reality.

An Imperfect Izanagi is what the Uchiha do without Senju cells. Even with Senju Cells, Danzo didn't perfect it

Obito on the other hand could use the Izanagi for 10 minutes against Konan...and I believe he was able to use a part of the Creation of All Things Jutsu
for me, Izanagi is not even complex...na Izanami that's complex

Hollywood this, Hollywood that.... You go dey complain everyday yet you still dey watch.
Hollywood has hacked the movie business and it's come to be successful.

Even Asians now know the power of franchises. For all the noise and hate people seem to say about franchise films online, the REALITY is people are easily going to watch and pick a franchise film over an original film anyday anytime. Things has evolved. The biggest grossers globally are tied to franchises except for a few old movies like Titanic (which can be argued is an adaptation).

Even Japan's heavy hitters at the box office are becoming dominated by adapted franchises ie. Jujutsu Kaisen 0, One Piece: Red, Demon Slayer etc..

So you wan tell me say majority of Hollywood series no get planning or direction??

You never know Wetin dey do you. Just dey nitpick and cap Nonsense.

You are yet to drop the series or movies of Korea that are top tier heads and shoulder "planned from beginning" that are better than Hollywood o.
I'm waiting.
Drop 1 from any Asian Industry and I'll give you 5 from Hollywood. I dey wait.
I'm not denying the power of franchises...my first line stated it's pros...also just like you said, most people would choose a familiar name over an unfamiliar one

These japanese movies you mentioned, are movies from airing series. The series itself mostly don't follow the Hollywood franchise model. Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen and One Piece you mentioned are not following the model...
They have a beginning and have an end and are not perpetual like the Hollywood model

And what I mean by planning is a show being planned from beginning to the end by a writer.
Are there Hollywood series that have this?...yes...but most are adaptations of books or games

There are tons without it, which are mostly original series. In fact over 90% of original series.

By itself it's not bad to write each season separately considering the show can get cancelled anytime.
As long as the writing remains consistently good, it's not a bad thing to plan each season on its own.
Shows like 24 don't even hide it

But some shows suffer from this like the ones I listed.

And even when it doesn't, I stated I have personal preference to those that are well planned from beginning to end. The reason is I don't like being taken for a ride like what Blacklist did to me.

For the Korean movies. I personally don't have many off-hand since I watched a ton during lockdown in 2020, and I don't cram names of many movies Hollywood or Korean.

But I do remember some of the very good ones I watched, most of which are recent movies:

No sympathy for Mr Vengeance
Oldboy
Lady Vengeance
Burning
The Throne
The Handmaiden
Decision to Leave
Assassination
Memories of Murder
Along with the Gods
Masquerade
The Last Princess
No Tears for the Dead
71: Into the Fire
Tazza
The Age of Shadows
The Thieves
The Villainess
The Berlin File
Steel Rain
Night in Paradise

I had to check my old phone and it's bookmarked history to find some of these and I'm sure I didn't find up to 20% of them

Most of these are recent movies. I watched a ton of Korean movies early 2020 and that's when I started respecting their industry. I'm sure I watched like a 100 of them at that time.

There are still some I can vaguely recall but I can't remember their names
TV/Movies / Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by itspreshh: 9:00pm On Dec 25, 2022
One thing I don't like about Hollywood is this franchise model.
It does have its advantages in that it is sustainable for a long period

But my issue is that it affects creativity...
One person may write a movie/ series...
Another person writes part 2 or season 2
Another person may write season 3

Because of this, one person's idea of the plot direction may be different from another.
If writer A is foreshadowing something, writer B can completely ignore it and it goes nowhere

Anyone who knows me well knows how much I love stories that are planned from start to finish. Nothing amazes me more than knowing all seasons of a show were planned from the start and I can see how well planned it was with all the foreshadowing and all.

But is this even possible in Hollywood today where they know the show may be cancelled tomorrow?
Or where the writers may be changed randomly?

I think the only exceptions to this in Hollywood today are some book adaptations

That's why I tend to avoid some shows that I feel may be cancelled randomly.
And I hate shows like Blacklist or Flash that go with this anyhow-belle-face plot.
No direction, no planning, the plot is just moving as it likes cos they know it could be cancelled anytime.

For me, the thing with Japan is that most of the best stories come from Manga...
A lot of their movies and series are adaptations of manga

Also they are the best in the world in adult animated content...their anime industry overshadows their movie industry of late despite the fact that they have produced some of the best movies

I saw an article about best movie industries with top quality movies and saw a Iran listed amongst the top 5 and I first shock.

I wanted to post how much weed the writer don smoke but I forgot cos the weyrey go spoil an intriguing list with the nonsense of putting Bollywood as the best movie industry above Hollywood.
Which kind weed be that.. Weyrey no even call South Korea sef.

But one thing you'd notice, almost all the top 10 can't match the US or Japan in terms of budget but they turn up with some of the most interesting plotlines. Budget isn't everything.
Especially when you hear of the exploits of Turkey. You begin to wonder wetin European powerhouses like Germany, Spain, etc dey use their money do.
Japan for budget? I don't think the Japanese put more budget in their movies than Koreans or Indians

I still feel the language barrier is the only thing keeping Hollywood at the top.
Many people won't give Asian (especially Korean) movies a chance and won't watch those in cinema so the income derived from these industries are lower and they can't make big budget productions

Hollywood are the top in big budget productions and marketing...
But their movies are getting tiring especially with about 90% of their top movies being reboots, sequels, remakes or superhero stuff

Of course there are still the occasional few good and original Hollywood movies...
But for me if not for language barrier, they wouldn't still be at the top...

If the Koreans were confident of their movies making good money worldwide and could freely blow big budget, they'd have surpassed Hollywood by now.

I'm good with the occasional suspension of belief.

But a lot was off with season 2. From the absurd betrayals to the ridiculous plot armors.

If you want over-the-top action a la John Wick, then keep it simple. The cheap attempts at shocking twists felt like amateur hour. EP6 ending came out of nowhere. No reason whatsoever for that sh*t.

They can keep the action and hire better writers. Unpaid interns from A24 would do better.

-Lord
the plot armor was crazy...
Even characters that I was sure they were finally dead resurfaced.
Lale being alive made no sense. She was to be killed out of revenge, she escaped, killing many guards and seriously injuring her captor...
Then finally she was brought back by *spoiler *
Only for her to be alive again at the end?
Why did they suddenly change their mind on killing her?

With the advent of Netflix and Amazon into the Nollywood lore, Budget hasn't really been an issue as i have seen enough expensive props and sets to make a good movie.

But contrary to popular believe, expensive budget doesn't really translate to good movies. Infact most critically acclaimed movies in modern history aren't high budget movies.

Delve into Iranian or Danish cinema, these people neither have the high budget or technology but most of thier movies are always top tier.

The major problem that still plague Nollywood is bad writing and bad screenplay and this is the core basis on which any successful movies is formed. Take for e.g the recently released "Far from Home", it neither suffered from low budget or lack of of "tech" cuz this were present to some certain degree but the writing and screenplay was so so bad. Even the title is misleading and the plot haphazard with no clear plot plan and so many unnecessary sub plot that ultimately lead no where.

Mind you Nollywood does not suffer from bad writers...far from it, the producers with the money bag aren't willing to pay for a good story. I follow a clique of writers and film makers that do extremely good short films with very mergre resources, one of them pitched an excellent script to Mo Abudu for "Cheif Daddy" 2, she read it, liked it and offered peanuts for it, Baba couldn't accept it, so my guy left with his script. Mo Abudu did the script herself and came out with the blandest plot ever on an expensive budget safe to say the movie was a terrible mess.

I saw like 10 Nollywood flicks this year, and i only liked 2 so till the producers that spreading the Netflix or Amazon money around to get good writers, they will keep churning out hot mess like "Far from Home".

these Danish movies you mention still have way higher budgets than our highest budget movies...

But I agree on writing. Our movies are plagued with bad writing.
Also plagued with troupes that aren't working.
They just pack many known faces into movies to promote and sell it then they pay influencers on twitter to promote the movie.
They're content with this formula instead of improving the writing

I think it's a Nigerian thing to chase the bag rather than improve quality of writing

This Twitter thread will tell you every silly thing that happened. I will add that Wilmer is a pre-tertiary institute.I simply added one extra point because of the pretty ladies ( hi adesuwa)
I've said it before that I am more lenient towards Nollywood.
One of the reasons is to push Nollywood forward first and promote it on global platforms

Another reason is budget. You can't compare the level of budget Nollywood has to foreign movies, not only Hollywood.

Technology is another reason

However, there are some bad troupes are writers are doing in our higher budget Nollywood movies/series that they should stop.

One of these is mixing too many genres in one movie/show. Every casual movie seems to have unnecessary and forced action scenes that kill immersion. You're making a post-high school drama and suddenly in last episode students are beating professional thugs like Jackie chan.

Or casually introducing Jazz and black magic into the last episode of a show or final act of a movie that had no such thing throughout the movie/ show

These scenes feel forced as if the writers just wanted to add this in the show by all means.

Another stale troupe is extravagant weddings. It's honestly getting boring with so many Nollywood movies featuring weddings that take half the runtime and all sorts of drama and even action scenes into the wedding

I honestly don't mind them adding things that aren't common in Nigeria. Hollywood does it too. They go overboard with how open and free sex is in their high schools. They go overboard with a lot of things too that aren't like that in real life.

I won't even mind a movie set in a dystopian Lagos or something if it's properly built
