All these speculations about age are uncalled for. I am sure we read about someone here who said he is 35 and applied for a graduate position and his status is under review. If the age requirement is 26 or 28, why didn't they reject his application? Or did they make a mistake? Abeg let's stop all these speculations. |
You should have sought for this advice before taking that step. Why do people go to school? In order to get a descent life in the long run. But it is very unfortunate that the clime in which we find ourselves hardly affords us that opportunity. You were already educated as an SSCE holder. You just wanted a higher education, which is not necessary to become successful in life. Since you were into a business that was flourishing, you should have stuck to it and after getting your feet firm to ground, after becoming well off financially, you may then proceed to school if you so desire. After all, one can acquire higher education at any age in life. However, the deed is already done. So what's the way forward? Why are you contemplating dropping out? Is it finance? Is it the thought of what the future holds? If you have the means to see yourself through school, then continue. But if you don't have the where withal or you don't have a sponsor, Hmmmmm! Then you really need to sit down and ask yourself what you really want. Are you ready go through the stress of schooling, perhaps doing odd jobs in school to fend for yourself, when you're not sure of whether that certificate will fetch you a decent job? Or would you rather drop out, now that you're just in 200level, in order to make money and then go back to school later? The choice is yours to make. If your problem is about the fears of the future, please be optimistic. As long as you have the means to continue, please do, because you are already in it. It is a good thing you already have a good business idea. The worst case scenario is that if your certificate does not fetch you your desired job, you may fall back to your business, which according to you is not a bad one. This is wishing you the very best in your eventual decision. |
bayelsaowei:If you continue to argue with this guy, you would be wasting your precious time. I am sorry to say that the guy has a very low IQ. I wonder how old he is. I don't argue with toddlers. |
alBHAGDADI:Exactly the question I was expecting from you. The bible does not always tell us "do this" and "don't do this." Sometimes the bible gives us principles which we apply in our lives. For example, nowhere in the bible would you specifically find the admonition not to smoke. But the principle found at 2Cor. 7:1, wherein the bible says we should cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh, helps us to see that anything that defiles the body (like smoking tobacco) should be avoided. Even medical doctors have corroborated this fact in the bible, that tobacco defiles the body. In the same vain, the account of Exodus 32:4-10 I quoted earlier helps us to appreciate the principle that true Christians should not replace a pagan worship with a worship to God ( of which Christmas is a replacement of a paganic celebration). That's the principle there. Besides, if you read from Genisis to Revelation, you would not find any worshipper of God celebrate birthday. The only two persons the bible recorded as persons who celebrated birthdays were pagans. And I have given you secular references to corroborate the fact that early Christians did not celebrate birthdays because it was paganic. So what else do you want? |
ollah2:Exactly!! He gives an appearance of someone who is knowledgeable on this topic. But it is very glaring. So you school him, like you rightly said. Some people, because of ego, would not want to own up to their errors. But I bet you, deep down in their hearts of hearts, they have conceded defeat. That's the situation with this guy now. |
alBHAGDADI:Na wa. Does the Bible say you should celebrate Christmas? |
alBHAGDADI:Hahahahaha. It's glaring why you're resorting to insults (traits of a loser). You cannot disprove these facts. Those references above, are they from Jehovah's witnesses? If you really want to know the truth, read and make research. Well, I won't quote you again. All I know is that I have satisfied my conscience. I have tried to help you listen to the voice of reason and utimately those sincere ones whom you're trying to mislead with your baseless assertions can see the truth. Yes, my post is not primarily for you. Have a nice day. |
@alBHAGDADI, Let me just quickly give you these references to to research on about Birthday celebrations: 1. The History of the Christian Religion and Church, During the Three First Centuries (New York, 1848), Augustus Neander (translated by Henry John Rose), p. 190. It says in part: "The notion of birthday festival was far from the ideas of the Christians of this period in general." 2. The Imperial Bible Dictionary (London, 1874), edited by Patrick Fairbairn, Volume 1, p. 225. It says: " The later Hebrews looked on the celebration of birthdays as a part of idolatrous worship, a view which would be abundantly confirmed by what they saw of the common observances associated with these days." 3. Schwabische Zeitung ( magazine supplement Zeit und Welt), April 3/4, 1981, p.4. It says: "The various customs with which people today celebrate their birthdays have a long history. Their origins lie in the realm of magic and religion. The customs of offering congratulations, presenting gifts and celebrating-complete with lighted candles- in ancient times were meant to protect the celebrant from demons and to ensure his security for the coming year............ Down to the fourth century Christianity rejected the birthday celebration as a pagan custom" 4. The Lore of Birthdays (New York, 1952), Ralph and Adekin Linton, pp. 8, 18-20. It says: "The Greeks believed that everyone had a protective spirit or daemon who attended his birth and watched over him in life. This spirit had a mystic relation with the god on whose birthday the individual was born. The Romans also subscribed to this idea....... This notion was carried down in human belief and is reflected in the guardian angel, the fairy godmother and the patron saint...... The custom of lighted candles on the cakes started with the Greeks....... Honey cakes round as the moon and lit with tapers were placed on the temple altars of Artemis...... Birthday candles, in folk belief, are endowed with special magic for granting wishes..... Birthday greetings and wishes for happiness are intrinsic part of this holiday........ Originally the idea was rooted in magic.........." This is just to help you and other sincere ones realise that Birthday celebrations have paganic origin. So why attach something paganic to our Savior, Jesus Christ? |
Alexis11:Oh now I know your problem. You find it hard to read and comprehend. Haba, it's not my fault na. |
Alexis11:This is the best you can do. |
alBHAGDADI:Are you sure you really read and comprehended Exodus 32:4-10? Didn't you read in verse 5 where Aaron built an altar before the golden calf and said: "There is a festival to Jehovah tomorrow?" Didn't you get the drift? A worship that was meant to be for a pagan god was converted to be a " festival to Jehovah." Don't you see the analogy? People in the time past celebrated a pagan god on December 25. Make your research and try to find out what characterised that celebration and you will discover that it is in no way different from what characterises Christmas celebrations today. What happened was just a change of the name of the celebration, from PAGAN god to JESUS celebration. In the same vain, the Israelites changed the IDOLATROUS worship to FESTIVAL TO JEHOVAH. Verse 6 shows that the Israelites offered up burnt offerings and presented communion sacrifices. To who? According to them, to God. In their minds, evidently, they felt it was harmless to REPLACE God with the GOLDEN CALF, analogous to "Christians" REPLACING the PAGAN gods with JESUS CHRIST. But God punished them. Recal that the Israelites made burnt offerings and sacrifices, things they normally do in their worship to God. But why did God still punish when they said it was a festival to God? The reason is not far fetched. The origin of the festival was bad. Just simply changing the name of the festival was not enough. The origin! The origin!! The origin!!!. Well, honest-hearted people, those who really want to know the truth, have seen glaring reasons why Christmas should not be celebrated. It is simply not for true Christians. Christmas is just Pagan Festival with a different face, much like the colour of a building is changed from white to green, but the building remains the same. I won't and can't force you to accept my reasonings but one thing I would let you know is that God can only make the truth known to those who are humble at heart, those who are willing to learn and unlearn, no matter what preconceived ideas they've had. Have a nice day. |
alBHAGDADI:You agreed in one of your posts that Christians converted the day the pagans were celebrating their pagan god, December 25, to the day for Christmas celebration. In other words, you changed the name from celebration of SUN god to the celebration of the birth of JESUS CHRIST. Is it not similar to what the Israelites did, in changing the festival to FALSE gods to the festival of JEHOVAH? Please read Exodus 32:4-10 again. 2Corinthians 6:14-18 says: What fellowship do unrighteousness and lawlessness have? Or what sharing does light have with darkness? Further, what harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what portion does a faithful person have with an unbeliever? And what agreement does God's temple have with idols?........ Therefore get out from among them and separate yourselves, says Jehovah, and quit touching the unclean thing and I will take you in........." So a person who has genuine love for God will break free from practices with unchristian undertones. True Christians should not celebrate Christmas simply because it has a paganic undertone and the precedence set forth in the book of Exodus confirms that. |
alBHAGDADI:OP please don't ignore my mention. Have you ever read Exodus 32:4-10? That portion of the bible talks about how the Israelites adopted an Egyptian religious practice but gave it a new name, " a festival to Jehovah." But how did God feel? He severely punished them for that. Yes, the Bible does not specifically contain the command "do not celebrate Christmas," but the principle set out in that book of Exodus is that God cares so much about the origin of celebrations, even though they may seem harmless. Consider this illustration. Suppose you love candy so very much. And as you're walking along the road, you saw your favorite candy in a gutter. Would you go ahead and pick it up and consume it? I know you would not. Why? Because it's from a contaminated source. Similar, since the source of Christmas celebration is pagan, no matter how you change the name or paint it to look harmless, you are contaminating yourself and God won't be happy with you just like he wasn't happy with the Israelites. |
I quoted the OP with the information below and he is yet to reply. Now, for those of you who see nothing wrong in celebrating Christmas, here is a food for thought for you, exactly what I sent to the OP: Have you ever read Exodus 32:4-10? Dantee005:Read Exodus 32:4-10 and you would see that the origin matters so much to God. |

farouk111:Hmmm! So yours has finally changed to under review? When did that happen? |
jidex4life:Well, I applied for an experienced position, so I think age is inconsequential. |
Still showing application received and I applied since 20th November. Funny. |
Hmmmmm |
From the look of things, it appears they are giving attention to graduate engineers first or has any experienced guys been attended to? |
simplebb:Nice one. They are working even today? Is the new date showing today's date? |
Saimeritus:Very strange. Those I applied before and after have had their status changed. Anyways fingers crossed |
Na wa o. The status of everyone around me has to either under review or no longer under consideration. But mine still remains the same. Are you sure they have not forgotten my application? Lol |
