Technology MarketIf Blackberry Msg Application Were To Be On Iphone, Android…. by Itulah(op): 9:15am On Jul 12, 2013
If the rumours were anything to go by, it should have happened yesterday. From yesterday, June 27, Iphone and Android users should have been able to download the Blackberry messenger service on their phones. But it did not happen. Blackberry and Iphone users are still keeping their fingers crossed for that digital revolution.

According to a recent report, out of the 4 million Nigerians who use smart phones, 46%-1.8 million people- use blackberries. The same report also shows that 95% of Nigerian BB users use the BBM, this is much higher than the global average. What could it mean for these people and Nigerians as a whole if the BBM is available on other smart phones? Here are some speculations we came up with:

Blackberry shift: Time without number, blackberry users have implied that the BBM is their major reason for using the blackberry. Relatively fragile, and with a short battery span, the reasons are not farfetched. If many Nigerians get the bbm of the blackberry, the resilience of the nokia and the aesthetics of the Samsung in one device, they are very likely to take it. RIM might as well be giving away the Nigerian market if they make the BBM free for all.

Blackberry Ban: Do you remember the Federal Government’s proposed ‘Lawful interception of communications regulations?’ It is a bill which would make it mandatory for any licensee in the nation’s telecoms market to provide access to its communications facilities for necessary interception by the law enforcement agencies.

Blackberry services could be at risk of being banned in the country as this regulation will run counter to the technical operating standards of the phone’s distinct network. The National Communications Commission might be less skeptical about enforcing this if there are less people attached to the beloved blackberry.

No longer a status symbol: For years, the blackberry has been a status symbol for many Nigerians. Of course the craze is not as intense as it was when the movie Blackberry babes came out, but with the cheapening of the bbm, the blackberry may just turn out as an ordinary phone after all.

Lower prices: RIM could decide to reduce the prices of blackberry phones in wake of these happenings. But with their stocks plummeting in western countries, it is a fifty-fifty chance.

Where will everyone go?: There are so many ifs that come to mind here. If the BBM is available to other smart phones, and if people abandon the blackberry brand because of that, our guess is that Samsung smart phones might gain more popularity, closely followed by the iPhone and Nokia smart phones. But the truth remains that we would never know, it might just remain a rumour after all!

TravelResiding Abroad, What You Should Know About Canada by Itulah(op): 8:18am On Jul 12, 2013
It is important to note that residing abroad comes with lots of uncertainties and as such, Nigerians who intend to migrate to choice countries for diverse purposes are promptly advised to plan well ahead of time, putting into consideration, some of the merits and demerits behind migration.

It has often been said that a large number Nigerians engage in demeaning jobs abroad, placed under stricter laws in countries they have migrated to, and also constitute the highest number of individuals found in foreign prisons. Nigerians should, however, welcome the fact that they are generally known to be hard working and efficient individuals who can surmount various forms of pressures to bring about a better and prosperous Nigeria.

Migrating to Canada: Herein, prior to their planned trip, intending Nigerian immigrants should endeavour to update themselves with a few primary knowledge concerning the people, culture, climate condition, rules and regulations in Canada, as to which the citizens and migrants must abide. It is important also to note that while usual courtesies are observed in Canada, the country is known to be conservative, good, and uptight in nature.

Applicants must, however, familiarize themselves with these facts for a better cordial relationship with the Canadians. Generally Canadians condemn presentation of gifts, mostly, in business settings, as such act(s) are unusual, considered unethical and in real sense, treated suspiciously.

Unlike the culture of attaching bourgeois titles to peoples names, both at formal or informal situations here in Nigeria, it is common to address superiors, co-workers, friends, and so on, by their first names in Canada, as they often appreciate getting right to the point. Canada has immense natural resources with a high standard of living, although, the country unfortunately, is now suffering housing ripples, as prices of houses have rocketed.

Keeping in touch: Communication is one of the vital aspects of life and in view of this, Nigeria immigrants are promptly advised to ensure that they keep in touch back home, as well as with the Nigeria embassy in the country where they have migrated to. Although, it may appear difficult when trying to penetrate through certain situation(s), the point remains that it will be to the advantage of the immigrant when he or she, at point of entry, immediately register his/her presence and itineraries with the Nigerian embassy in the country of resident.

In these days and time where public telephones are becoming harder to find, due to the growing popularity of mobile phones, migrants are better off subscribed to telephone companies that offer reduced long-distance call rates, and or make use of telephone cards that are readily made available at reduced cost. It definitely would be pretty expensive for a migrant to subscribe to any form of mobile phone roaming agreements with any international mobile phone companies, because of its high rate. The coverage may be near perfect in major urban areas, but it is good you understand that it is almost always spotty in remote locations, and very high to maintain, in terms of agreement rate(s). Subsequently, internet services are also made available throughout Canada, as are internet cafes.

You can often find pay-per-use Wi-Fi hotspots in coffee shops, fast-food outlets and airports, and in some cases it is rendered free, as long as you buy food or a drink. Although, you can also find free public Wi-Fi in public libraries and in some hotels, some others continue to charge exorbitant daily fees on users.

Best time to visit: As you are considering migrating to Canada, it is important to note, if you are under the category of individuals who enjoy winter sports that the best time to travel would be between the month of December and April. And if you love the great outdoors without the snow, then you have to consider travelling between the month of May and September.

Be aware, however, that in the presence of heavy snowfall, which comes during the winter, some high-altitude hiking trails may be closed well into July. Note that May, June through September, are typically cheaper than the months of July and August, but you are bound to get the best of the weather in the latter two months. Summer thunderstorms are common throughout Canada and have no prime months. These occasionally may become severe, and as such travelers are promptly advised to get themselves familiarized with such conditions as when due.

CelebritiesRe: Hemp Photos: Tonto Dikeh Risks 15-year Jail Term by Itulah(op):
Even some politician dey weed too, why them never arrest those one.
CelebritiesHemp Photos: Tonto Dikeh Risks 15-year Jail Term by Itulah(op): 7:43am On Jun 29, 2013
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Friday said controversial Nigerian actress, Tonto Dikeh, risks a minimum of 15 years in jail for encouraging the consumption of hemp.

Dikeh had on Friday posted photographs of a wrap of hemp and grains of the weed formed into the letters, 'Happy birthday POKO.'

She also posted a photograph of herself and added the inscription, 'Mi smoke ganja mi smoke weed while my hatez smoke ma gossip.'

Her picture is a close-up of her face that seemed to depict her in a high state.

When Saturday PUNCH contacted NDLEA for comments, its spokesman, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said the matter would be investigated.

He said the matter had been referred to the appropriate department of the agency.

Ofoyeju said, "Our attention has been drawn to the post quite frankly and I can tell you that action will be taken on it. The law is clear and NDLEA has been very clear on the issue. No one is permitted to sell, use, cultivate or encourage the use of Indian hemp in Nigeria. The weed is one of the banned narcotics in the country.

"NDLEA Act Section 14 (b) states that any person who conspires with, aids, abets, counsels, attempts to commit or is an accessory to any act or offence referred to in this act shall be guilty of an offence under this act and liable on conviction to be sentenced to imprisonment for a term not less than 15 years and not exceeding 25 years.

"Investigation has not started as of now but definitely, a step has to be taken on the matter. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse; so, it is obvious that the actress stands the risk of 15 years jail term. The appropriate department is meeting on the issue for necessary action."

The NDLEA spokesman, however, declined to give any hint on particular steps the agency would take in its investigation, citing reasons bearing on ethics.

Dikeh's post has expectedly drawn mixed reactions from readers, with many of them voicing concern for the way she is living her life.

elektra80: the problem is not Honda, its the way the car was used. People buy expensive cars and use cheap abro ATF fluid and then complain when tranny gets fried. If u can buy an expensive car, what stops u from buying genuine ATF even if its sold for 3,000 naira per quart. Toyota gear will also get fried when u toll without lifting the driving wheels.
You are right, but my resent visit to honda motor website got me thinking cause there are numerous cases with Honda Transmission failure at a certain number of trip and that got me worried. Probably when this attain that mileage things may fall apart again..... I've just lost faith with honda automobile, it was a good ride anyway, I must give it that but I have to begin it sent fort party.....

earthrealm: sorry about ur wahala.., but now u know..help educate others.............I tell naija mechanics are a lil menace.most of the car troubles in Nigeria is caused by them or worsened by them........most times I see a 4wd/suv being towed with the 4wheels on the road!!...whatever was the original problem has just been doubled...as the 4wd drive system/transmission of that suv has been wrecked by that towing............but more of the blame is the owner of the car , cos he failed to read his car manual where its clearly staed not to tow with the 4 wheels on the ground..

@poster..if u buy a toks gearbox...pls make sure u fill it with original Honda atf as recommened for ur car........pour in the excat volume as over/under filling is also very bad for the gear box
Ok pal, thanks, but I've learnt my lesson and am going to put the car for sale add up more money and get a Toyota Camry. Never in my life will I put my hard earned money on Honda Automobile ever again.

PoliticsCAN Demands Buhari’s Arrest For ‘reckless’ Comments by Itulah(op): 9:27am On Jun 05, 2013
President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has called on security agencies to arrest a former Head of State and presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change in the 2011 general elections, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) saying he constitutes a security risk.

The call, he said, followed comments by Buhari condemning the military operations in the three northern states of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa, where a state of emergency has been declared by the Federal Government.

The association, according to a statement by the Special Assistant to the CAN President on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Kenny Ashaka, on Tuesday, also described as unfortunate Buhari’s decision to throw his weight “behind a blood thirsty sect” without considerations for the hundreds of Christians sent to their early graves. He said it was not expected of an ex-head of state.

Buhari was said to have accused the Federal Government of double standards in dealing with the issue of Boko Haram, during a radio programme on Liberty FM in Kaduna,.

He was said to have questioned the “special treatment” given to the Niger-Delta militants by the Federal Government, while the Boko Haram members were being killed and their houses destroyed by the government.

But Oritsejafor, who said Buhari should be arrested and made to account for his reckless statements, described the ex-Nigerian leader as a fanatic with an alleged link with the dreaded sect.

The CAN President also noted that it was shocking that Buhari would be indulging in careless statements while all well-meaning Nigerians were praying for the success of the military operations in the three northern states, where members of the Islamic sect had increasingly wreaked havoe.

According to him, Buhari as a national leader should have been more concerned about the killings of innocent ones by the sect members and the success of the troops rather than acting as a megaphone for the sect.

But in his reaction, the Publicity Secretary of CPC, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, told The PUNCH that CAN, under Oritsejafor, had become more political than religious.

He said, “The CAN, under Oritsejafor, is more political than religious; in any clime, religious leaders have always been the moral conscience of the nation in ensuring that the ship of state is not in peril.

“After the incendiary protests of the 2011 elections, Pastor Oritsejafor, without any verifiable evidence, called for the arrest of General Muhammadu Buhari for allegedly being responsible for the protests,” he said.
