Nairaland GeneralHow Aviation Authorities Grounded Amaechi, Tambuwal At Akure Airport – Rivers Go by Itulah(op): 9:10am On Apr 29, 2013
*Their plane only delayed – NAMA

By Jimitota Onoyume & Daniel Eteghe

Rivers State government, yesterday, alleged that an aircraft, scheduled to fly Governor Rotimi Amaechi and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, among others, out of Akure, Ondo State, was grounded by the aviation authorities on spurious grounds.

It described as false the claim that the aircraft’s pilot did not submit a manifest alongside his flight plan.

But the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), in a response, said the plane was not grounded but delayed.

Amaechi, Tambuwal and the others were returning from Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State where they attended the funeral of the deputy governor, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Olayinka, on Friday, when the incident happened.

A statement by the chief press secretary to the Rivers State governor, David Iyofor, yesterday, entitled

How Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, House of Representatives Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, House of Representatives Members, Director-General Governors’ Forum Prince Tonye Princewill were grounded in Akure Airport and aviation authorities, cock and bull stories, narrated the alleged grounding.

“We had set out from Abuja in the morning of Friday April 26, 2013 for Imo State to attend the funeral rites of the younger sister of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha. Our plane, a Bombardier jet owned by the Rivers State government, landed at the airport in Owerri. It was in Owerri that the pilot of our plane was first tipped off that there was a plot to ground our plane in Owerri that Friday”, the statement started.

It continued: “Fortunately, we took off from Owerri airport and arrived Akure airport en-route Ekiti for the burial of the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Funmilayo Olayinka without any incident. On the flight to Akure was the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal who we met in Imo State and was also heading to Ekiti for the burial of Mrs Olayinka.

Also on the flight were the Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi; the Director-General, Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), Asishana Bayo Okauru; Kalabari prince and politician, Prince Tonye Princewill; some aides of the governor and myself.

“Once our party left the Akure airport for Ekiti, our pilot went to the airport offices to make statutory airport payments and fees, file his flight plan and declare his manifest. After filing his fight plan and declaring his manifest, our pilot was told to go and see the Controller.

The Controller bluntly told him that the Rivers government plane would not be allowed to leave the airport. In other words, the plane had been grounded! He said that the plane should have been grounded in Owerri. The Controller on duty at the airport in Akure mentioned some vague issues relating to the Customs papers of the plane, which has been flying in Nigeria for many months?

That didn’t make any sense to the pilot. He enquired on whose orders the plane was being grounded. He was told that it was the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Authority (NAMA). And that he should reach the NAMA MD.

“By the time our party, which now included four House of Representatives members: Mohammed Sani Idris Kutigi, Daniel Rayeineju, Idris Ahmed Wase and Ifedayo Abegunde, returned to the Akure airport, there was confusion everywhere.

Speaker Tambuwal, the Honourable members, Governor Amaechi and his team, were stranded. The plane that brought Speaker Tambuwal and Governor Amaechi to Akure could not leave the airport. Calls were made as these two democratically elected leaders, furious and perplexed, tried to fathom what could have caused this monumental embarrassment.

“After trying fruitlessly for some time to get the plane released, Speaker Tambuwal offered to fly Governor Amaechi to Port Harcourt with the plane(another small aircraft) that brought the other four Honourable members to Akure. To accommodate Governor Amaechi in the small aircraft, one of the House of Representatives members offered his seat to the Governor .

“The pilot of the Rivers State government plane was already locking up the aircraft for us to leave for Lagos by road when a call eventually came through that the plane could now leave. The Controller received a directive to allow the plane fly out of Akure. The decision to let us go, we later learnt, was due to the pressure brought on the aviation authorities by Speaker Tambuwal.
Plane only held for five minutes – NAMA

Reacting to the Rivers government story, yesterday, NAMA boss, Nnamdi Udoh, stressed that the aircraft was not grounded but delayed because the pilot did not submit the manifest alongside his flight plan to the appropriate authorities.

He spoke to newsmen at the agency’s headquarters at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos. Udoh debunked the claim that the aircraft was grounded by the agency.

According to him, there was five minutes delay because the pilot, at the time of take-off, did not submit the manifest of the names of those on-board the aircraft contrary to the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) that was issued to non-scheduled operators earlier this year, adding that adequate clearance must have been given to avoid any delay because the Akure airport was restricted to day light operations only.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority(NCAA), last night, declared that the Rivers government aircraft was operating illegally as its clearance approval expired on April 2, 2013.

Consequently, the NCAA said it had finally grounded the Bombardier -BD 700, Global Express aircraft. Addressing reporters at the Aviation House, the headquarters of NCAA, the director of airworthiness standards, Engineer Benedict Adeyileka, explained that while the aircraft was operating illegally , it was sighted in several places including Owerri and Akure.

Celebrities10 Shocking Lies Nigerian Celebrities Have Told Their Fans by Itulah(op): 12:54pm On Apr 26, 2013
The candid counsel from Russian novelist, Leo Tolstoy, which says: “Be bad, but at least don’t be a liar and a deceiver,” is evidently not heeded by most celebrities in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
To these showbiz stars, speaking from both sides of their mouth is a thing of joy and pride.
Over time, these entertainers have publicly lied and deceived the media, their fans and the world at large, only to be found eating back their words and burying their heads in shame, especially when the truth surfaces and becomes unassailable.

The case of busty crossover actress, Foluke Daramola is not just one among many others, but also a clue to how our screen idols blatantly betray our trust in them.
For instance, many months after denying her romantic affair with Kayode Salako, Daramola finally tied the knot with same man, to the consternation of many.
However, while some have had to lie in order to save a situation, others have proved to be congenital liars who have constantly cajoled the public with inveterate lies.
In this authentic list, Entertainment Express showcases ten top entertainers and the many shocking lies they boldly told the public through the media. The list is arranged based on the gravity of the lies.

Foluke Daramola

Barely four months after debunking the reports of her romantic dalliances with Kayode Salako, describing it as “baseless rumour” and a “disservice from the Nigerian Journalists,” busty crossover actress, Foluke Daramola on February 15, 2013, tied the nuptial knot with Salako at No.2, Gbeleyi Avenue, by Femifoam Oyemekun, College Road, Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos.
In her earlier interview with Entertainment Express, the actress had denied having any romantic affair with Salako. Her words: “I work with this person they are talking about. We work together at Change Agents Network. If any journalist has caught I and Kayode Salako in an uncompromising situation and wrote the story, I wouldn’t need to be told that he has done an investigative story. To just see me and him working together and conclude that there is something intimate is a baseless accusation. How can you tell me that I’m romantically involved with somebody I work with because his wife left? Does that make any sense?” she fumed during the interview.
The recent wedding did not only put an end to her many months of lies and denials, but also made her a subject of ridicule, for continuously lying to her fans, the media, and the entire public.

Doris Simeon
In March 2012, reports of marital turbulence centred on the family of crossover actress, Doris Simeon when her celebrated filmmaker husband, Daniel Ademinokan allegedly trod the path of infidelity with another top actress, thereby putting the couple’s three-year marriage under tension.
The story made the cover of various newspapers and magazines and equally trended heavily online.
In reaction to the story, Simeon debunked the rumoured crack in her marriage, insisting it was a figment of the peddlers’ imagination, a distraction and a product of idle minds.
Speaking with Entertainment Express via telephone, the award-winning English and Yoruba actress avowed: “It is all lies and baseless rumour; it is far from the truth,” she maintained.
Today, Simeon has buried her head in shame, not only because the marriage irretrievably nosedived, but for initially lying and deceiving both the media and her numerous fans about the true state of her marriage.
The thespian who first hit fame with Papa Ajasco TV comedy series, is allegedly accusing Stella Damasus as the cause of her marital hiccups.

Shan George

She once accused married actresses in Nollywood of sleeping around at will without the preying eyes of the media getting hold of them. In her words: “Most married actresses in the industry sleep around like dogs and nobody is talking about it. These are people who have been lured to bed with whiff of money by top politicians and businessmen. These same people will be claiming to be happily married.”
However, few days after this outburst, Shan George ate back her words. But instead of doing so honourably, and apologizing to those hit and hurt by her revelation, the actress went lying, and denying to have made such a comment. “Jesus! That is the worst mudslinging technique I have ever experienced. That is so crappy for someone to quote a childish caption like that on me,” she lied.

K-Solo
Call him the greatest liar of the century, you would not be wrong. Solomon Oyeniyi, popularly known as K-Solo, did not only lie to the public, but also to his family members, and in-laws who sought to know the reason why he battered, extorted and cheated his wife.
The estranged wife, Christy Kikelomo Akinkunmi with swollen and blood-stained face had alleged thus: “K-Solo started beating me [up] immediately after our wedding and I lost the baby I was carrying when we got married on November 26. The marriage finally crashed in February 2012 when he called me and told me that Timaya just bought a Nigerian-used Range Rover Sport, that he wants me to buy him a brand new Range Rover worth 7.5 million and also put N10 million in his account. I told him that even if I had the money, I won’t do it.”
Instead of intelligently making up with his embittered wife and apologizing, K-solo blatantly told the media and everyone that cared to listen about how they staged the situation to attract media attention. Unfortunately for him, the big lie came back to haunt him, as the marriage finally collapsed barely one month after his failed attempt to deceive the world as a failed producer.

Tiwa Savage
At so many occasions, Tiwa Savage and her manager, Tee Blizz were found kissing and caressing each other. Even the social media was awashed with pictures suggesting some romantic dalliances between the duo. Yet the Kele Kele crooner denied, insisting they had nothing beyond work relationship.
“I am not engaged and I am not dating Tee Billz. He is just my manager. The story that I am having an affair with him is mere rumour; we are not dating.” These were the exact words of Tiwa when she was confronted with questions about her romance with Tee Blizz.
Having grudgingly swallowed this lie and denial, Nigerians were recently dumbfounded when videos of their engagement began trending online.
Today, most people are not upset because they were lied to after the love birds recently got engaged, they are upset because from now on they would find it difficult to believe their much admired singer for denying what is already obvious.

Funke Akindele
So many white lies characterized crossover actress, Funke Akindele’s wedding to her long-time lover, Kehinde Adeola Oloyede popularly known as Kehinde Almaroof. Apart from numerous verbal lies emanating from the star actress, she also lied in print, about the venue of the much talked about wedding.
While the ceremony was scheduled to hold at The Havens Event Centre, Oba Akinjobi Road, GRA, Ikeja, the invitation card she circulated carried different address-All Seasons Plaza, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.
Apart from the media, so many other invitees, especially those from distant places, clad in Aso Ebi, also expressed regrets and disappointment on finding out they had been misled and lied to by their darling star. When confronted, Akindele, who spoke through her media aide, blatantly denied knowledge of the card with the fake address. But nobody believed her cock and bull story.

Zakky Azzay
With a voice dripping with pains, emotions and punctuated by throbbing flashbacks, the battered wife of Na Me Go Marry Am crooner, Zaaki Azzay recently sat down for over an hour with the editorial crew of Sunday Express, as she unearthed bitter memories of a turbulent eight-year-old relationship with her musician husband.
“I have fainted more than two times after being beaten mercilessly by Zakky Azzay. I almost died in his hands. On so many occasions, I had packed out of his house after unbearable assaults and beatings from the man I call my husband. In fact, since our troubled marriage, I have packed out of his house a record eight times. Zakky has beaten me on the street of Gbagada before. He even bought cutlass which he said he will use to kill me!” She avowed.
However, when confronted with the poser concerning the wife battery allegations, Zakky not only lied, he claimed not to have raised a finger against his wife, let alone hitting her. Till date nobody believed Azzay’s white lies, as the truth later surfaced.

Yvonne Nelson
Her recent outburst calculated at tarnishing the image of Kukere crooner, Iyanya came as a rude shock to many people.
In other words, when the going was good, the Nollywood actress not only savoured good moments of romantic relationship with the singer, she also denied having an affair with Iyanya. When the relationship crashed and became an open secret, all she could do was to bow her head in shame, and of course, she moved on with her life. Would she ever be believed again?

Tuface Idibia
Though Tuface might have meant the song, ‘African Queen’ for a particular woman but for long, he has been entangled in a love triangle involving not less than three African Queens who have given him, a record six children.
He did not find this situation funny, hence in his earlier interview with Entertainment Express, the international act stated thus: “The truth is that marriage is not in my plans. I will never marry. Let me put it that bluntly. I don’t want to marry. I am angry.”
Today, as you read this, the wedding bell is already jiggling, with date and venue fixed. The truth is, either he earlier lied about his decision never to marry or he simply had a rethink.

D’Banj
In 2012, when D’Banj premiered his first reality show, Koko Mansion, he made series of promises which till today has remained unfulfilled.
His promise to feature the adjudged winner - which turned out to be Bolanle Okhiria - in the official video of “Fall in Love” is one of those unfulfilled promises. The Koko master was either lying to all or deliberately reneged on the promise, as he ended up featuring Nollywood star, Genevieve Nnaji in the official video

HealthEat More Bananas For More Sons – Scientists by Itulah(op): 11:38am On Apr 26, 2013
LONDON, England (CNN) -- Women can influence the gender of their child with what they eat before they conceive, according to new research that lends scientific support to age-old superstitions about pregnancy.

The discovery shows higher calorie intake prior to conception can significantly increase the chances of having a son while women on restricted diets are more likely to produce daughters.

Scientists at Britain's Oxford and Exeter Universities, who studied eating habits of 740 women during their first-time pregnancies, say that their findings seem to back certain traditional links between diet and gender while disproving others.

"We were able to confirm the old wives' tale that eating bananas and so having a high potassium intake was associated with having a boy, as was a high sodium intake," research leader Fiona Mathews, a specialist in mammalian biology at Exeter University, told the Guardian newspaper.

"But the old take about drinking a lot of milk to have a girl doesn't seem to hold up. In fact, more calcium meant they were again more likely to have a boy."

Mathews said the study pointed to a simple technique to influencing the chances of a male birth: Eating a bowl of cereal for breakfast.

"If you want a boy, eat a healthy diet with a high calorie intake, including breakfast," she told New Scientist magazine.

"Of women eating cereals daily, 59 percent had boys, compared with only 43 percent who bore boys in the group eating less than a bowlful per week."

The researchers said that a higher calorie intake prior to conception can increase the chances of having a son from ten to 11 boys in every 20 births, according to the study published in the Proceeding of the Royal Society B.

They said it could explain why male births in richer countries are experiencing a slight reduction.

Christianity EtcSigns That You’re Sleeping With A Mammy Water by Itulah(op): 11:29am On Apr 26, 2013
This is for all the guys who pick up random girls on the streets without knowing anything about them. Here’s how to know if you are sharing your bed with a mammy water:
You picked her up from the street or some other random place. Maybe she was even standing in front of an uncompleted building. You don’t know her surname. She told you her name is “ Just Julie”
She agreed to sleep with you on the very first day, in fact she moved into your house, no questions asked.
She never gets tired. She can pound yam, fry garri, grind pepper with a stone and still have s*x with you when she finishes.

She always looks perfect, even first thing in the morning. No pimples, her make-up looks permanent and everything is always in the right place.
Her Brazilian hair looks natural. It really looks like her hair but maybe salons have found a way to remove natural hair and put it back later.

A disappointing response greets the auctioning of 2Face Idibia’s wedding shoes and cap

It seems that Nigerians are getting back at music star, 2Face Idibia, for having his wedding ceremony outside the country. To express their anger, many of the singer’s fans have refused to bid favourably for some of the accessories used during his traditional wedding, which he auctioned on www.kaymu.com.ng, an online store .

The highest total bid for 2Face’s coffee colour hand-beaded traditional suede shoes and cap, so far, is N25,400. It is obviously less than the sum required for funding the two maintenance projects at the Lagos State Motherless Babies’ Home in Lekki Phase 1, where the charity proceeds will go to.

At the beginning of the auction, the online store had stated on its website that it was looking for serious Nigerians that were interested in bidding for the accessories.

“Important: Don’t disappoint the kids. Only place bids if you are interested in buying the items and have the money. Our community is about good people helping good people,” the online store had stated.

As at the time of filing this report, there were 43 bids for the suede shoes, while 35 bids were for the cap. However, the bidders seem to be disappointing the children who are the intended beneficiaries of the proceeds of the auction. So far, the highest bids for the pair of customised shoes and cap are N15,300 and N10,100, respectively.

Individual bids for the shoes are between N4, 999 and N15,300, while those of the cap are between N999 and N10,100. More than half of those who bid for 2Face’s customised cap actually believe that it is worth less than N5,000 in the market. Out of the 35 people who are willing to buy the cap at such moderate prices, 19 people offered to pay N5,000 or less.

Golden Boy, Oshine and Gbemy appear to be the most serious bidders for the singer’s cap. The three have offered nine different prices for the item. Each time a co-bidder places a higher price, they shoot up their bids. But Gbemi’s biggest price tag of N10, 000 has been surpassed by that of a new comer, Bhills, who on Monday night, indicated that he was ready to buy the cap at N10,100.

Last week, 2Face donated his coffee coloured hand-beaded traditional suede shoes and cap with the inscription, “2Baba”, to be auctioned on the “Celebrity Charity Auctions” of the online store to help raise money for orphans in Lagos.

Many Nigerians had argued on various social media that 2Face took his wedding to a place that was only accessible to invited guests and family members and not his fans. Some people even advised the star entertainer to rather auction all the gifts he received during his wedding if he truly loves the orphans.

A reader on lindaikeji..com had said, “2baba, after we bought your CDs and made you rich, you went to Dubai to wed so that we would not eat your rice for once. Today again, you want to raise money through us.Please go back to Dubai and get those who ate your rice to buy your shoes, cap, and your songs. If you want to help those children, start with the jeeps you received as wedding gifts.”

A similar celebrity auction that sold like a hot cake in recent times was that of the late American music icon, Michael Jackson. Last December, about 465 clothes and accessories, which span his career, were auctioned in Los Angeles, United States.

Jackson’s property, including his iconic white-jewelled glove and jackets he worn during the production of the USA for Africa video and for the ‘Dangerous’ tour; as well as during his meeting with former President George Bush, and a pair of signed, among many others, were auctioned.

The jacket he worn during the ‘Dangerous’ tour sold for $216,000 while the white jewelled-glove was auctioned at $192,000.

In all, Jackson’s personal effects fetched a total of $5m and some of the money was donated to charity. American Pop star, Lady Gaga, was one of the biggest bidders; she purchased 55 items at the auction.

Although the auction will close on May 19, 2Face would most likely be disappointed at the turn of events. The results, no doubt, are far below what he must have expected.

EducationUTME May Not Hold In Troubled Northern States by Itulah(op): 10:00am On Apr 25, 2013
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Wednesday said the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination might not hold in troubled states in the North.

The examination, in which over 1, 735,720 candidates are expected to participate in will hold on Saturday.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the JAMB Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. ‘Dibu Ojerinde, said the board “may not hesitate to stop the examination if there is any security problem”.

Responding to a question on security challenges in the country, Ojerinde said, “Yesterday it was a big discussion among some agents as well as JAMB. We believe that things will be all right. You see, we believe that we will surmount the problem.

“If however, there is any problem, we may not hesitate to stop the examination in those areas to the extent that we will now give the children a chance of doing the examination on CBT only.

“If you miss Paper Pencil Test in a challenging area that you cannot do the examination, then you will have to do the next one and that will have to be as from May 18.

“With God, we shall not experience any problem. We have put everything humanly possible in place, we have put this before God, and we believe he is not going to sleep on that day. But if there is a need for postponement in those places, we shall not hesitate.”

There have been reported cases of violence occasioned by the activities of the insurgent group, Boko Haram, in many states in the north in recent time.

Meanwhile, Ojerinde, said the Board had concluded arrangement for its first Computer Based Test in 70 centres across the nation from May 18 to June 1.

The CBT, he said, was an alternative to the Dual Based Test and PPT scheduled for Saturday.

Ojerinde said 1,629,102 candidates applied for the IPT, 15,008 candidates for the Dual Based Test while 91,610 candidates applied for the CBT.

He said the figure for 2013 showed an increase of 231,789 applicants when compared with last year’s figure of 1,503,931 representing an increase of 13.35 per cent.

Ojerinde said 145 visually-impaired candidates registered for the examination while 196 inmates registered for it from Kaduna and Lagos prisons.

PoliticsPolice IG And Tinted Vehicle Glass by Itulah(op): 9:54am On Apr 25, 2013
THE Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar, needs to exercise utmost restraint in the enforcement of laws on tinted glass in vehicles. Obviously worried by the worsening insecurity across the country, the police authorities are falling back on a number of laws in the statute books to address the challenge. Understandably, terrorism is a potent threat that must be crushed. But they need not inflict unnecessary pain on the citizens by stretching the provisions of the laws too far. The Senate is, therefore, right in considering a bill to stop the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps and other security agencies from harassing people who use vehicles with factory-fitted tinted glass. The ban should be on the use of a tint beyond permissible limits.

In response to the rising insecurity in the country, Abubakar ordered his men to immediately begin to arrest and prosecute motorists whose vehicles are fitted with tinted glass and those driving unregistered vehicles. He reminded politicians, military and other security personnel of the “negative security implications” of such activities, which he said infringed on relevant laws. He reiterated that this move became necessary “in view of the danger posed by indiscriminate use of tinted glass and unregistered vehicles, corroborated by recent security reports that criminal elements, including terrorists, now hide under the cover of the use of unregistered vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles to execute their nefarious trade.”

These are ordinarily unassailable arguments and no one should be allowed to use an unregistered vehicle. Also, in view of the security implications, it is unthinkable to allow vehicles with heavily tinted windows and windscreens to freely ply our roads. The insecurity in the country today presents Nigeria as a failing state. Armed robbers are having a field day in many states; kidnapping has reached virtually every part of the union; communal clashes and sectarian strife flare in various places, and rival cults stage bloody daylight clashes. In some northern states, the government is competing for authority with Boko Haram terrorists and well-armed mass murderers who raid villages and public offices, leaving a bloody trail of thousands of dead people in the last few years. In their operations, these criminals use vehicles, tricycles, motorbikes and don military or police uniform. The police, therefore, deserve all the support they can get to check the alarming state of insecurity.

It is not the first time that the federal authorities have targeted users of vehicles with tinted glass. Indeed, during our long years under the military rule, the authorities had occasionally clamped down on tinted glass, green-coloured and black-coloured cars. The reasons given then, as they are now, were that it would curb insecurity and check those impersonating military personnel.

But times and circumstances have changed. The police ought to know, for instance, that modern cars, even the low-priced “people’s cars”, come with various shades of tint. In the United States, the tint limits range between 24 per cent and 75 per cent VLT – lower number meaning less light transmittance and darker tint. In the United Kingdom, the front windscreen must let at least 75 per cent of light through and the front side windows 70 per cent. However, it is illegal to sell or use a vehicle with heavily tinted windscreen and front windows in the UK. The Indian Supreme Court had ruled that vehicle manufacturers may produce vehicles with tinted glass, which provide for 70 per cent visual light transmission for safety glass on front and rear windscreen and 40 per cent VLT for side glass. In all these countries, there is equally a considerable threat of terrorism. Apart from the health and economic reasons that make old provisions on tinted glass bad laws in today’s world, there is the issue of fundamental rights enshrined in the 1999 Constitution that supersedes any other statute.

Good sense demands discretion in the implementation of anomalous laws. A vehicle glass that is not tinted to the point of being opaque poses no security problem whatsoever. Only glass that is opaque, that prevents other road users or security personnel from seeing the occupants of the vehicle, presents a security challenge. In an op-ed article in several newspapers, police spokesman, Frank Mba, cited two laws: Regulation 66(2) of the National Traffic Regulations (1997) and the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glasses) Act as the enabling laws backing the IG’s action. While the first provides that “all glasses fitted to a vehicle shall be clear and transparent to enable persons outside the vehicle to see whoever is inside,” the second forbids vehicle glass fittings to be tinted or shaded or coloured even lightly.

Clearly, these are outdated laws; the one decreed in 1997, the other a former Decree 6 of 1991 that was simply adopted as an Act of the National Assembly. Vehicle manufacturers worldwide now tint virtually all cars, while Nigeria has no indigenous vehicle manufacturing base to speak of. Tinting vehicle glass became standard after years of research: It protects occupants against ultraviolet sun rays; it saves the upholstery lifespan of cars by up to 60 per cent and is said by safety experts to reduce the risk of injury in case of a crash involving breakage of glass, as tinted glass adheres together rather than crumbles easily.

The IG should rightly clamp down on opaque glass and insist that all vehicle glass show the occupants and the interior visible from the outside. But indiscriminate targeting of tinted glass that is still transparent is unreasonable. The order should be clarified so that police will target only opaque glass. The option of obtaining the IG permit is no solution; it only adds another layer of paperwork and promotes corruption as evidenced by the activities of some corrupt policemen, who extort money from hapless motorists in the name of implementing the IG’s order.

While the IG should rightly be concerned about insecurity and the tricks of criminals and terrorists, he should be circumspect and avoid punishing the innocent. The National Assembly on its part should make haste and amend the laws to fit into current realities.

John 16:33

I have told you this so that you will have peace by being united to me. The world will make you suffer. But be brave! I have defeated the world!"

I have told you this appears first in John 14:25. The reference may be to the previous verse, but it more likely refers to the entire discourse, at least as far back as 16:1.

So that you will have peace by being united to me is more literally "so that in me you may have peace." For the meaning of peace, see comments on John 14:27. Barclay translates "that in me you may have all that makes for true happiness." The meaning of "in me" is either "in union with me" or "in fellowship with me."

The phrase by being united to me expresses means. It may be rendered in some languages as causative, for example, "so that your being united to me will cause you to be truly happy." In some languages means may be expressed by a clause introduced by "because," for example, "so that you will have true happiness because you are united to me" or "...because you are one with me" or "...joined to me."

The world will make you suffer is literally "in the world you have suffering." Structurally "in the world" is in contrast with "in me." Since the world refers to the world of evil in its opposition to God (see John 1:10), TEV restructures to indicate that the world is the source of the suffering brought on the disciples. The word used here for "suffering" (thlipsis) is the same one used in verse 21. Elsewhere in the New Testament it is used to refer to the sufferings believers must endure (see Mark 4:17; 13:19,24; Acts 11:19; Ephesians 3:13; and Revelation 7:14).

But be brave is a word of encouragement (NAB "But take courage!"; NEB "But courage!"wink. An admonition to be brave may be expressed in some languages in an idiomatic form, for example, "stand up to the danger" or "do not run away." In some languages an expression for bravery may seem almost contradictory to our own ways of thinking; for example, for a person to be brave is in some languages "to have a hard heart" or even "to have a heart like stone."

The verb defeated is used only here in the Gospel of John, but note its use in 1 John 2:13-14; 4:4; 5:4-5. Both Paul (1 Corinthians 15:57) and the author of (Revelation 5:5; 6:2; and 17:14) speak of Jesus as the one who defeats the world and so gives victory to his followers. In some languages have defeated would be rendered "have won the battle against" or "have been successful in fighting against." This figure of speech is probably acceptable, provided one does not use as an object of the verb such a rendering as "the people of the world." Though in many contexts the world may be rendered "the people of the world," in this particular instance John is emphasizing not Jesus' victory over people, but over the world force, or the system of the world. The only equivalent in some languages would be "the power of this world." However, in order to speak of "defeating the power of this world," it may be necessary to say "I have destroyed the power of this world."

RomanceHint On How To Know If You Are Dating A Gold Digger by Itulah(op): 10:34am On Apr 17, 2013
1, Understand what a gold digger is and is not. There’s nothing wrong with a person being concerned about your financial stability. A long-term partnership means depending on each other through the ups and downs, and being financially reliable helps with that to a degree. The difference between a gold digger and someone who values your role as a provider is that the gold digger would abandon you if you lost your ability to provide for them financially.

2, Gold diggers only want to take from you. They always have their hand out. They’re always asking for money for this and that. They drop hints that they’re having trouble paying their bills and often they might even ask you directly for a “loan”. Gold diggers never give you anything. They never offer to help you in anyway. If the person you’re with is constantly discussing your six figure salary and your expensive car, it’s time to say goodbye.

3, When you suggest ways to make money to a gold digger or ask them to pay for something with their own money, they look at you like you’re crazy. A gold digger believes that they have a right to your money. So suggesting that they should use their money when yours is available is an idea they find ridiculous.

4, Pay attention to the questions they ask you. Certain questions which might seem harmless might really be an attempt to judge your financial ability.
How much do you make a year? And what type of car do you drive? Why would she/he ask this question? Because a gold digger is a mobile calculator. They are trying to determine your overall worth and whether being with you is a profitable investment for them.

5, A gold digger won’t encourage you to embark on any expensive projects no matter how essential they are for your progress. If you suggest doing anything that will take a lot of money and affect your lifestyle, a gold digger will be horrified or disgusted and say things like “You’re not really serious, are you?” OR they are ready to call it quits and leave because you are paying attention to “you” instead of “them”.

6, A gold digger is always trying to keep up with the Joneses. She’s always telling you what another girl’s boyfriend bought her and he’s always telling you how his friend’s girlfriend supports him with money. They always want the latest thing in town and they want to buy it with your money not theirs.

7, The only time a gold digger ever shows you genuine affection is when you get paid. If you notice that your partner suddenly becomes more caring when you get money, you definitely have a gold digger on your hands.
