Miss Happiness Ozoalor, 23, is the only lady welder in Delta State. She is an indigene of Enugu but was born in 1993 in Aniocha area of Delta State Prior to becoming a welder, Miss Ozoalor was working at Caretime, a company producing hair relaxer and air freshener in Asaba. She said her interest in becoming a welder was inspired when she observed some welders living close to where she lived in about five years ago, then she was a teenager. “I went into it because the place I live before was close to some welders’ workshops. “When I return from Caretime, I used to watch them from my house, at times they will tell me to help them do one thing or the other. There and then I began developing interest in welding. I thereafter told them I want to learn welding. They told me it’s not hard and that I can do it” , she said Miss Ozoalor, who attended Gateway to Success Secondary School in Ebu, Oshimili North council area of Delta State, learnt the welding for two years between 2012 and 2013 when she completed the training from her master, one Mr. Emeka Isichei. For her, it was a smooth ride into becoming a welder as she did not pay any money beside meager agreement fee she paid to her master. “My oga didn’t collect much money from me, he only collected agreement fee and he said I should pay anything I can afford because I’m a woman coming to learn a man’s work,” she said. Against the desire of many parents who would want their female children to go into trades that are feminine in nature, her parents did not discourage her from the trade she has determined to do. Rather, her parents only warned against eye problem due to the radiation of the welding light, “ My parents were only telling me that I hope this thing will not injure me especially my eyes. I told them that it does not disturb me. They didn’t discourage me from learning this welding". Although, Miss Ozoalor is the only lady in the midst of the men welders in the state, she is comfortable and happy among them. On admission into the welders’ union, she was made the welfare officer of the association. Her admission into the association was actually out of compulsion. Ordinarily, she was ignorant of the need for admission, only interested in practicing her trade but she has to be a member to practice without hitches. This is because all trades have associations through which they cater for their members. She said that, members of the association in the state attempted confiscating her welding equipment, unless she joined the association. She thereafter called her trainer who gave her the procedure for enrolment into the association. She said being a woman she was enrolled without paying admission fee. This is another favour she enjoyed for being the only woman in a man’s world. According to her, the association members have been watching her over a period of time. She said the members informed her that she is doing men’s work and as such there is no difference between her and the men in the welders’ association, hence she must enroll with them and be a member of the union. For ladies out there who may be involved in prostitution rather than get engaged in profitable ventures, she said such engagements won’t fetch them any success in life. “Selling their bodies will take away their respect from them. A woman can do anything in this world; there is nothing that a man can do that a woman cannot do. “As far as your mind is on it, you can do it. Running up and down and sleeping with men will not help you. Anything a woman puts her mind to do, she can do it as far as she has interest in it. A woman can climb a tree and do anything. She can climb storey buildings and follow men up just as men do it. No man can do anything better than a woman as far as the woman’s mind is on it. The thing is in the mind, not in the physical appearance. They should release their mind and do something reasonable. A woman can do anything that a man can do on mother earth as far as I’m concerned. Prostitution is shameful and disgraceful, no good and decent woman should go into it. “Because they don’t even know who they are sleeping with, but this work, you know what you are doing, there is no fear in you of what may happen to you. But when you are going to the man, you don’t know whether he has disease that can infect you. So, nobody should encourage such lifestyle. It pays to be hardworking and there is a reward for every labour on earth” , she noted. A common tradition in Swaziland (Swazi) permits the King, Mswati, to choose a new bride every year. CHINNEX BLOG learnt that a long time tradition in Swaziland permits the the Sherburne-educated King to choose a new bride every year (August), in the Swazi Reed Dance Festival where he parades and tests topless under aged virgin girls publicly to ascertain that their virginity was still intact. It has been a long time tradition in Swaziland and not the first time this controversial issue is making it into the news. Although, many consider this barbaric and backward, it’s a tradition the people willingly embrace as the aim is to help King Mswati choose a wife. It would be recalled that in 2012, it was reported that topless virgins were paraded in front of the Swazi King, to celebrate chastity and unity. As part of Swazi custom and norms, that time of the year has come, when the King chooses his bride and again, he has reportedly tested some of the volunteered girls’ virginity before choosing a wife for himself. Thousands of pretty virgins’ were seen in this year’s edition dancing topless for King Mswati III, on what is called the Reed Dance ceremony, also known as Umhlanga), hoping to be his next wife. The Reed Dance ceremony is an annual Swazi and Zulu tradition held in August or September. In Swaziland, tens of thousands of unmarried and childless Swazi girls and women travel from the various chiefdoms to Ludzidzini to participate in the eight-day event. The underage girls are publicly checked to ascertain that their virginity was still intact. The King had chosen a 19-year-old virgin from the dancing maidens last year August, who became his 15th wife. CHINNEX BLOG had in August 2015 reported that no fewer than 38 virgins were killed in an auto crash on their way to the festival. Dozens of girls and young women were killed as they traveled to the traditional festival. The open-topped truck they boarded had collided with another vehicle, before being hit by a second truck as it travelled along a motorway between the Swazi cities of Mbabane and Manzini. At least 38 girls who were to partake in the annual event reportedly lost their lives. Footage of the fatal encounter between Chicago police officers and unarmed black teenager Paul O’Neal has been released by the city. Police review agency chief described the video as “shocking,” while a family lawyer called it an “execution.” O’Neal was killed by CPD officers in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood on July 28, after crashing a Jaguar convertible that was reported stolen earlier in the day in Bolingbrook, a suburb to the west. The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed he was shot in the back. On Friday, Chicago’s Independent Police Review Authority (IPRA) posted dashboard and body camera footage from four of the officers involved in the shooting. Calling the footage of the shooting “shocking,” IPRA Chief Administrator Sharon Fairley said that the agency decided to release the videos before the 60-day timeline outlined in Chicago’s transparency policy because a determination was made “information can be released to the public without jeopardizing the investigation.” “We are releasing this information that we understand is of utmost public interest,” Fairley said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STSiuVWrTVc Video recordings show the Jaguar sideswiping one police cruiser before ramming another. O’Neal can be seen running from the car into a row of houses, with police in hot pursuit. While there is no video from the officer who cornered him, body cameras from two other officers show the aftermath, with a bloodied O’Neal lying on the ground. They shot at us too, right?” one officer asks. O’Neal had been unarmed. “I shot at the car after it almost hit you,”says another. “We just came from watching Chicago police officers execute Paul O’Neal,” Michael Oppenheimer, attorney for the family, told Chicago’s WBBM-TV. “It is one of the most horrific things that I have seen, aside from being in a movie.” “These police officers decided to play judge, jury and executioner,” Oppenheimer said. “It is horrific, it is tragic, that these officers did what they did, and took their street justice in their own hands; the things that they are trying to prevent, or supposed to prevent.” “What I saw was cold-blooded murder,” Oppenheimer told reporters at a press conference Friday. “You don’t even shoot, and you shouldn’t shoot, dogs that are running away.” Oppenheimer called for a special prosecutor to be appointed to investigate the case. O'Neal's mother, Tanisha Gibson, filed a federal wrongful death lawsuit against the Chicago PD on Monday, accusing the officers of shooting her son “without legal justification,” the Chicago Tribune reported One community activist, who was shown the videos before they were released to the public, says the footage shows officers stomping on O’Neal and later discussing how to turn off body cameras. “I saw a police officer approach a lifeless O’Neal, face down to the ground, with three or four other officers over his body, screaming at him to put his hands behind his back, run up, stomp him in his back, and then grab his hands very violently, and put him in handcuffs, clearly lifeless,” Jedidiah Brown told WBBM. My heart is completely broken,” said Brown. “I felt like that was a tear right down the middle of this relationship between the community and police, and I think it’s going to even further divide communities in Chicago as it relates to public safety in the city.” Chicago erupted in protests last November, after the city released video showing the 2014 police shooting of another African-American teenager, Laquan McDonald. The officer who fired 16 shots at McDonald was dismissed and charged with murder. Both the police superintended and the IPRA chief resigned in the aftermath, while the city’s attorney was ousted in a primary election. Praising IPRA’s decision to release the videos quickly, Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson vowed to “take a hard look at the training and tactics” used in the incident. “My promise to the people of Chicago is that we will be guided by the facts and should the wrongdoing be discovered, individuals will be held responsible for their actions,” Johnson said. The identities of the officers involved in the shooting have yet to be released.

Pregee Binaibi went to her timeline to share the ordeal of a 5-year-old girl she met on her way home from her Sister’s place in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state. According to her, the girl was found under heavy rain where she was still hawking groundnut for her stepmother. She posted saying: “ Can u imagine? On my way back from my sister’s place, I passed by the market. It was raining seriously, so much that I was seriously feeling feverish. It was 15minutes past seven and i was rushing home. On my way a man stopped the taxi I was in and begged the driver to help take a little girl who has been under the rain selling groundnuts. She was shaking seriously and couldn’t walk. She almost fainted so the people around had to put her in a taxi cos she was walking home under the very heavy rain. Fortunately she was going my way so I offered to drop her at the junction were she lives. Getting there, it was still raining cats and dogs so I took her under a shelf away from the rain. I was curious to know why a parent will expose their child to such. I asked her some questions and she said she was 5-years, left the house for the market in the morning to sell. I asked her what she ate and she said she drank just garri in the morning. Where is your mum I asked and she said her mum was home doing nothing. How can parents be so irresponsible? This is child abuse. Exposing this little girl to such, I got her something to eat and then took her home only to discover that she was actually staying with her father’s wife. #live happening here in Yenagoa this evening.# #may God help our little children !” Source: https://chinnex..com.ng/2016/08/wickedness-5-year-old-girl-seen-hawking.html?m=1 Lalasticlala, Seun, Mynd44,

Recall that Shekau who served as deputy leader to the group’s founder, Mohammed Yusuf, and reportedly a father of Abu Musab al-Barnawi, until Yusuf was executed in 2009. Nigerian authorities believed that Shekau was killed in 2009 during clashes between security forces and Boko Haram until July 2010, when Shekau appeared in a video claiming leadership of the group. He has subsequently been reported dead with regularity, and is thought to use body doubles. In March 2015, Shekau pledged allegiance to ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Here are 20 quotes from the just released audio: 1. That I, Abubakar Shekau is still the leader of all the faithfuls by God’s grace. 2. People should take this message seriously as it will do them a lot of good. 3. Abu Musa Al Barnawee said some Muslims have become disbelieving. But anyone we say is an unbeliever is an unbeliever because we are believers in God. 4. People of the world have no choice but to listen to us as we are taking directives from the Book of God 5. This message is from our leader Abubakar Al Baghdadee Abu Musa Al Barnawee. He says all your beliefs are false. 6. I am Abu Muhammad Bin Muhammad Shekau. 7. I heard all what was said in Arabic that there is no leader which I want to refute. 8. All that is being said in the radio are things we do not agree or know about. 9. All what has been written about out group are not so. 10. I have to announce here that I am not dead as I am presently in the land of the infidels. 11. I, Shekau is still much around until God permits something to happens to me. 12. All what they said are words of mouth but no action. We are still here. We are still in charge. 13. We are following what is in the Qur’an and nothing will happen to us. 14. God will continue to support us and assist us even if people call us Kwarijah or Muutazilah (names of extremists and dangerous sects). We don’t care even if they call us. 15. In the Quaran, people called Prophet Muhammad insane. But we don’t care what they us. 16. We are sending out this message to the world to know that we are still much alive and still in charge. 17. We want you people to change the way you think; as there are so many mistakes commuted by you. 18. I am still the leader of the group because I am following Prophet Muhammad and nothing can happen to me. 19. Nobody should follow (obey) creatures (human beings) by disobeying God who created human beings. 20. We are still here, we will still carry out more attacks. Insha Allah. Abu Musab al-Barnawi, who was a former spokesman for the group, has been named as the new leader for terrorist group Boko Haram by ISIS. Al-Barnawi’s appointment is coming after the federal government and army recently claimed that Boko Haram were technically defeated. Among other terrorizing activities, Boko Haram is responsible for the abduction of the more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls in April 2014. The group’s seven-year insurgency has left at least 20,000 people dead, particularly from the north-east.
