Prechbills:Rape builds off of having a general disrespect, and disregard for that person. Also, remember that rape can happen between spouses which is rarely mentioned. |
JONNYSPUTE:The proper response would be to try and unteach yourself the mentalities that you're taught, when you realize that they are wrong or a bit fishy, but some Nigerian women aren't willing to change because they see a benefit. |
Prechbills:Throughout history women have experienced many forms of oppression coming from their male counterparts. So now, in this day and age where that oppression isn't as prevalent as it was before, some women feel as if they want to turn the oppression towards men and reverse history. But to be honest, that is not what should be happening. We want men and women to be seen as equal and none greater than another. Equality is the way. |
JONNYSPUTE:An interesting theory that my close Nigerian friend had explained to me was that, when you grow up in a society where you are taught that the man is the sole provider of the family you keep that mentality. Then, times start to change but that mentality is still there. You know that you can be financially independent but you don't want to. |
Prechbills:Africans, generally, really need to take their time and educate themselves before forming their opinion because once they have that opinion they will never let go. Most Africans (especially Nigerians) have this whole "I am right, and you are wrong, and always will be" type of philosophy. |
Prechbills:Like I said, if you don't support all aspects of gender equality then you shouldn't deem yourself a feminist. In my staying in Nigeria, and speaking with a lot of Nigerians, I've come to find that Nigerians tend to have the wrong idea about many different things. |
fem·i·nism [ˈfeməˌnizəm] NOUN the advocacy of women's rights and liberation on the basis of the equality of the sexes. If you do not believe that both men and women should be deemed equal in all aspects of life then you are not a feminist. |
My turn off would usually be when I see signs of lack of respect. He won't make eye contact in conversation, or he'll be looking at his phone. He may even interrupt me while I'm speaking which I feel is very disrespectful. Respect, and regard is all I need. |
Most Nigerians aren't very fond of lesbians (L) and gays (G) but I'll get to that later. Did you know the "+" in LGBT+ is LGBTQQIIAA L - lesbian- a woman sexually and romantically attracted to women G- gay- a man who is sexually and romantically attracted to men B- bisexual- a person who is sexually and romantically attracted to both men and women T- transgender- a person who was born as one gender physically, but has a chemical inbalance of testosterone and estrogen Q- queer - anyone who is lgbtqia+ Q (2) - questioning- somebody who is not sure about their sexuality I- intersex- someone who is born with characteristics of both genders (i.e testosterone and estrogen, penis and vagina, ovaries and sperm etc.) I (2) - intergender- someone who doesn't choose to aesthetically identify with either gender. A- asexual- someone who does not have sexual attraction towards either nor any genders; keep in mind that asexuals still have romantic attraction/aesthetic attraction which means they are attracted to someone's personality and the way they're face may look but not in a sexual way. A (2) - allies- an ally is somebody who is not lgbtq+ (straight/heterosexual) but supports and advocates for their rights. There are some levels to all of these and there are some things that I decided not to go into depth in general, and this is pretty surface. Feel free to ask questions about each sexuality, but just don't spread hate. Au revoir! |
Real feminism is being able to respect a man and acknowledge them, but also expecting the same from men: respect, and acknowledgement. |
I feel like most Nigerians don't really understand the entire premise of "feminism". |

Judolisco:Notice how nobody ever asks if it makes the guy cheap |
Alariiwo:In my staying in Nigeria for these past 2 months I have come to realize that a lot of people tend to put down easterners. I didn't know tribalism was that much of a problem here. |
psucc:My Job is to literally study Nigerian society, and those were the types of things people all around me were saying and had talked about, maybe I was misinformed. I apologize if I had offended you in an such way. |
airmirthd1:You have to admit, the definition of romance in Nigeria is a bit off, isn't love a part of society? |
Upon my arriving to Nigeria (due to the circumstances of my job) all I hear about is runs girls and "ashawos" and sorts of other things. It seems to me like Nigerian society is just at a pause for the moment. I'm not from here so I can't exactly judge them for there actions, because I don't know their inner struggles. So, before I make any judgment I would like to learn from the people themselves. What do Nigerians think of Nigeria's societal climate? |
RadicallyBlunt:I have come to notice that most to all Nigerians have a natural talent for insulting people. |
NwanyiAwkaetiti:We have some of those in Ivory Coast but I don't think its as serious as it is in nigeria |
NwanyiAwkaetiti:I'm not exactly familiar with the term runs girls but Nigerians tend to throw it around a lot, my experience staying here has had a lot of unanswered questions. |
Darksider131:In my coming to Nigeria the climate of the country just seems sort of negative towards new or different things or ideologies. I just want these 3 months to pass by quickly so I can get out of this country. |
NwaAmaikpe:I would like to see you try and justify your thoughts and opinions without using the magical book of tales called the bible |
Studies show, that up to 45% of African and Caribbean women don't know how to take care of their natural hair. Some don't even know their hair type and are ill-informed on the proper treatment of thicker hair. Do YOU know your own hair type women of Nigeria?
|
sirBLUNT:In general really but if you want to make it about relationships go ahead |
crazysaint:That's what everybody said last year when buhari ran and now look where we are |
crazysaint:Sometimes I just feel really sorry for the nigerian people, they've been through so much. |
crazysaint:I'm a historian I collect information about other countries history and try to put pieces together. It's fun to be honest. Nigerian history is fascinating! |
crazysaint:no not at all, Cote d'ivoire is my home. Vive la Ivoire! |
crazysaint:My job requires me to travel very often and Nigeria is my first station so far, and honestly I love it. |
juwonloo:I was actually raised in Ivory Coast, I came to Nigeria recently so I was curious |
Ladies, what are some habits of Nigerian men specifically that are just odd or weird? In my coming to Nigeria in the past few months I began to notice that my newly found Nigerian friends had many complaints about their husband or boyfriends behavior. They spread those feelings towards other men around them exclaiming "men are trash" or "men will always be men" and it was interesting to find that many women in Nigeria have this mindset. So, what do you think? |
EsotericMonk:Actually to correct you on your last point, when a woman has a child or children there isn't much time for other activities pertaining to her own self needs. |
.
this your queiz ehh, are you not born nig
