My mechanic diagnosed the car and recommended we get a replacement. That is the second opinion. It burns petrol, one of the cylinders isn't receiving signal from the ecu, it doesn't rev well(when you floor the gas pedal it gives short revs in a loop).
Sorry for the silence guys, I have been on the move since last week. I really I'm not ready to apply for a fresh drivers license as it will be as useless as the one before it. I didn't do capture because I was busy, and I have traveled a lot since 2013.
I went to road safety office at Ojodu in Lagos for driver's license renewal on 22nd March,2013. I paid , went through all tests and was given my printouts and all what not. I was asked to go for capture only for them to give me appointment for 21st November, 2013! I went away with my documents. Fast forward January 2017, I went to their office in Abuja and asked them to renew my license which I felt should have been expired by now. I was informed that the passport has not expired since I have not been captured and so it cannot be renewed and I was asked to go back to Ojodu to be captured. Last week, 30th March, 2017 to be precise, I went back to the Ojodu office only to be told that I should bring a copy of my expired driver's license so they can process it. They said there are issues with my license and they need to show a copy of the old license as proof before I can get a renewed copy. This really irked me and I asked them 2 questions; What is the use of the Provisional DL Number? What is the use of the application ID number? I was told that I have two options, either I apply for a fresh Driver's license (go through driving school, etc) or I unearth a copy of the old driver's license. I really feel they already have all the information they need in their data base (unless they don't have one, and they do have a data base). Can any road safety official help me out with this issue? I will advise you buy a Nigerian used, import parts and fix it up. Copart sells slavage cars which means you will most likely spend a lot on the car when it comes in, after spending a lot to import it. You canb get a very clean Nigerian used for between 3-4.5m. If you import you will spend up to 6m. Get a mech with a diagnostic tool to accompany you so he can diagnose any vehicle that catches your fancy. If the engine is sound, the suspension won't cost you much to correct (shocks, etc), break pads, etc will not cost that much to buy from the usa. That way you save yourself a lot of money. 1. The Source: Wildfires
The Problem: When wet, ash forms an alkali that can ruin your car”s finish. The Solution: Keep your car covered, use a car duster for white ash, wash thoroughly if it”s soot.
These days it seems like every state is burdened with wildfires. The ash gets everywhere, and your car”s finish is no exception. While your instinct may be to hit the windshield washers, or just hose down the whole car, water mixed with ash can create powerful alkalis, which will ruin your paint. White ash can be removed with a car duster, or just by driving away and letting it blow off. Black ash can scratch your paint, even when you use a duster, so you”ll need to wash it off using a car wash solution, and dry thoroughly. Once the fires are out, get your car professionally washed, and put on a new coat of wax.

The Problem: Ancient peoples used tree sap as glue for a good reason. The Solution: Bug and tar remover, mineral spirits, clay bar treatment
Just wiping sap off when it”s still gooey only smears it around a larger area. Instead, get a bottle of bug and tar remover from your local car parts store, and use it as directed. If the sap dries, mineral spirits can dissolve it, and remaining residue will come off with a clay bar treatment. Just be sure to wax the car after you”re done.
3. The Source: The gas pump
The Problem: Spilled gasoline The Solution: Don”t top off, and clean up accidental drips
Times are tough, but “topping off” your gas tank and accidentally letting it overflow is a surefire way to damage your car”s paint. If left alone, gasoline will leave a stain on your car”s finish that”s nearly impossible to get off. If you do happen to spill gas by accident, the best solution is to grab a bottle of instant detailer and a good, clean microfiber cloth and clean up the gasoline before it does any harm.
4. The Source: Fingertips and mischief
The Problem: Writing or rubbing on dirty paint causes permanent marks. The Solution: Keep your car clean.
We”ve all seen “wash me” written on a car”s finish, but the well-intentioned tagger actually just made things worse. Dirt acts like sandpaper when it”s dragged across paint, and it can make the marks last long after the dirt is gone.

We live in a very hot country sun exposure can cause your vehicle’s paintwork to fade — damage that can be difficult to reverse.
The best way to avoid prolonged sun exposure is to park in a garage or cover the car with a specially made car cover. Failing that, try to park in a shady spot wherever possible.

For those asking about cost, it depends on how far you want to go so it can cost from as little as N5000 to N100m. I personally like the feel and look of 'old' cars with upgraded engines and interiors, especially SUVs. Has anyone noticed how good the first generation G-wagons, and Land Cruisers look? Then imagine them wearing new rubber and upgraded interiors and exhaust systems..then add diesel engines to the mix and you have monsters that will go almost anywhere, especially where other cars just dream about For the record, i am a land rover man, and i feel the most rugged and beautiful land rover ever created is the land rover defender; it also remains the most 'pimpable' SUV (along with the jeep wrangler) on the planet! If you want to enjoy these SUVs, go diesel!

So for those of us in that "petrolhead" category. If u consider going into to the car tuning world, here is a list of cars to consider.
8. Vw golf mk1 and mk2 Never underestimate this bad german, its light, cheap, parts are very available. Price range 200k-300k
7. Audi tt. Mk1 Very nimble, solid engine to begin with 160hp RWD . audi parts are not so widely in available in my place (Abj) maybe its in lagos. Price range ?
6. Mercedes benz 190E 2.6 This one was used by our elders and even if u asked them about the performance of the car they will tell u its a beast. Go for the 2.6 litre straight six version. The chasis is very good. This car was overengineered. U can get one from. 190k- 260k. Parts are very available
5.Older mustangs. 1990s Not too common on the roads but if u like most car guys and you like visiting junk yard, mechanic garages you can find one lying around. If in good condition, especially the v8s, its a nice platform to work with. price range depends on the car condition. What I do know is, its never gonna be above 400k.
4.Mercedes benz clk If am not mistaking, I mean that Benz a guy named sultan (drift king) owns. And if u are used to abj stunts there is also a white one owned by top sports team. A v6 engine that produces around 231hp. (According to owner) i don't really know the exact year and model but pls any one that knows the car better should help me describe it better. As far as I know they are mostly AT. Price 270k-400k.
3. BMW e36. Haha no much to say, u all know what this machine is, with different variants i4s and i6s. But the best deal to go for is a coupe 325. That's what most drifters use in abj. If u watch the stunts @ wuye, idu u should notice that. And what more. They sound incredible with straight pipes. HP 102 to 193hp depending on variant. The 325 produces 192 hp @ 5200rpm and 250Nm @ 4k rpm. manual trannys are miles better than the autos. Price 200k- 350k
2. Nissan S13 and S14 So much love and support from car community, but i think maybe your average nissan mechanic doesnt know the "SX" Nissan. Not so common on our roads but u might one day stumble across one and if its for sale and you dont buy it, u may end up regreting. (Just a car guy thing). Its very cheap and I found one in gwags for 170k. It was a 180sx S13 1.8ltr turbocharged. both s13 and s14 use light i4 engines with huge power output due to force induction systems. For instant a 200sx produces 200hp from an 2.0ltr i4 which is good for hooning around, and burning rubber. My problem is these cars are rare in naija.
1. BMW e30. Respect your elders. Since 1983, this devil was a star. With so much love in the car community, tuning an e30 would not be difficult due to fact that there is so much forums and information about this car on the web, so much tutorial videos and how to, DIY and everything that can even make u mental about the e30. With so much variants to choose, I recommend the coupe 325i . its very cheap with 250k u can get yourself one. But be fast if u want a clean one. Because dark night motorsports and superbike Nigeria collects them and influenced it on our car guys. Every one now wants an e30. Prices will ramp up and I can bet it. Get one now. Its gonna be a bit difficult to get the coupe, then u might want to go for the sedan but still a 325i sedan

There are kits to convert to shocks and they work well. I would consider it if one of these kits from Europe was used but if they did it in Nigeria i may be less inclined. Our people take things for granted a lot hence the lack of confidence in their 'ingenuity'!

nurey: It's called kicking timer that's what my brother in law who did it remembered it as but says will confirm from the tech guy.
Even if the engine wasn't switched off once you open door, just a few miles and it will die on motion. So any time the door is opened before starting the engine you have to press the key combo or switch off engine press key combo and start it again
honmusa: Maintaining a clean engine is also part of routine preventive maintance hence u can wash your engine if you can supervise the work and observe 2 simple precaution . 1.0 Ensure all exposed electrical stuffs eg ,harness,connectors,alternator,ignition coils etc are covered with a water proof material to avoid water touching any of those parts. 2.0 Avoid water getting into the intake systems and vacuum hose .
Also make sure they have a blower/dryer to dry the engine after steam-washing it

MontyNG: Yes you're right... some will add a second exhaust but this will be purely for show and nothing else! Pretty pointless in my opinion!
EDIT:
I've also seen some V6 engines take the two exhaust lines into a single exhaust tip! This is done usually to save cost... some argue it creates more back pressure on the exhaust line and gives a gruntier sound.
Single exhaust setups (L engines) can also be made to output on duals will give a cleaner sound and may arguably suffer performance issues!
Why would any car manufacturer waste money on a dummy exhaust when he is battling to keep his prices competitive? If its there its working. Most multiple exhaust ports are v8 and higher, turbo charged (sport tuned new models) or modified by the owner. Please correct me if am wrong
