Car Talk / Re: Ford Explorer 2003 by ivoryhouse(m): 7:01pm On May 22, 2020
Ford explorer is a solid car to own so long as you don't let a mechanic abuse it. The parts are affordable and you can get them at Ojuelegba. @Op, that explorer is over priced. You should get an '06 for about N500k.

Wow.! That's surprising to me. I drove a civic for 6 years like I mentioned earlier and even traveled to as far as Benue , Enugu and never even get tired so I believe you but is there no remedy to this? I actually noticed that the seats are harder and more firm but what surprises me is that other of my friends that have this same car never complained. Thank you anyways
One of my friends had to stop driving her '08 corolla due to the back ache. Her husband got her another car, and a driver. Your only solution is to get another car. Spending money swapping a better seat into the corolla may work, if the car means that much to you
Car Talk / Re: His There Any Difference Btw Corolla & Corolla Sport (03 To 07 Model) by ivoryhouse(m): 6:30pm On May 22, 2020
No there's no difference, apart from a few cosmetic changes. Engine, transmission and other mechanical parts are basically the same.

I think the corolla would be cool being the lighter one of the two cars though it has a smaller engine bay
Whatever works for the suspension, front or rear. I'm still toying with the idea of embarking on this project. The old Corolla would have been cool, but I prefer the '09 Camry purely for looks, and I think it could look much nicer and drive better too.

I'm rather taken aback thought you'd say '03/05 Corolla. It's your car seats that are causing the pains as they're not supporting as they're supposed to.
I met a guy at a carwash who was washing his ford focus, 2010.he said he just sold his 2008 Corolla. When I enquired as to his reason, he said he had a lot of back ache whenever he drove the Corolla. When he got the ford focus, he noticed that he didn't have pains, even when he sits in traffic for hours, as compared to the Corolla. So he sold the Corolla and kept the Ford
Car Talk / Re: Cars Rear And Front Protective Iron Bars by ivoryhouse(m): 5:47am On May 21, 2020
They do disfigure the car, especially the cheap chrome bull bars they sell here. After a lot of bumps from all sorts of cars, the last incident being a 1970s benz that rear ended my car and broke my factory plastic rear fender, I'm replacing the front and rear fenders with steel fenders. These fenders will be coated to in rhinestone to ensure there won't be peeling when people hit me.
Car Talk / Re: Fitting The 5.0l V8 From The Lexus ISF In A '05 Corolla Or '09 Camry by ivoryhouse(m): 6:14pm On May 19, 2020
TRYGO:
1. How do you intend to position the engine? Transversely, or longitudinally?

2. What transmission system are you using? The V8 one that came with the V8, or which one?

3. Have looked at the engine compartment of the Camry, and taken dimensions, to see if the V8 engine would fit in there?

4. What's your competencies, when it comes to playing around with electrical wire harness upgrades?

5. You maybe needing to modify engine mounts separately.

6. How would you route the exhaust manifolds on both banks of the top cylinders?

PS: We have fitted a V6 3400cc forerunner engine into a hilux, after discarding its stock 2TR engine last year.

Regards!
Thanks. I have a competent team and tools to pull it off. I'm just of the mindset that the '09 Camry will look really cool. This isn't our first job, just may be more challenging than others. You're thoughts are highly appreciated

What do you guys think of stuffing a 5.0l v8 from the Lexus ISF in a 2009 Toyota Cotolla or '09
Toyota Camry? I would prefer a 2009 Camry as it would look cooler and the stance is wider than a Corolla. The stance of the camry can be widened and the swap should be a lot easier. Moreover, I've always felt a 2009 Camry project would be an interesting one.
What do you guys think, yay or nay?

I believe OP just wants to add a fake exhaust tip, which is completely useless. Plus I don't see how it can be done without buying a new bumper, or cutting a terrible hole into the current one.

But yeah, you're right. Only difference is, I'd say keep the stock pipes. Buy a complete catback setup if you want bigger pipes. [Quote]

The single most pointless modification. I believe even the V6 models have just one pipe running from the exhaust manifold. So, either way na fake dual exhaust, lmao.
If done right, it could actually make the car drive a bit better, and sound nicer too.
I would get larger diameter exhaust pipes, install glass mufflers, and upgrade the exhaust tips. Car will breathe better, sound better, take off faster and even gain a few mpg while at it.
FYI I'm not a fan of the Camry though I feel the 07 to '10 will truly make a good project car to rebuild

That okrika is better than new or Bespoke.

It's always about the price, it's never about the value.
When it comes to cars, this analogy does not stand. I once saw a 2005 Toyota Camry with 5000 all original miles, garage kept, in the US, by an elderly woman who's owner the car from brand new. It still had the shine of a brand new car and the new car smell, and this was 2015!
When it comes to cars, I'd rather let someone else pay for the depreciation. I'd rather buy a 2019 car with a few miles on it than buy it brand new. However, if brand new makes you feel better, knock yourself out

Not at your budget. Your best bet is a Nigerian used Toyota or Lexus. I just sold a 2004 Toyota Corolla, some days ago. I have other Nigerian used cars at great prices.

The newer the better. If you can't get a more recent Lexus, buy the Camry. A 2008 Lexus can never be compared yo a 2014 Camry or do you suppose Toyota made no advances in technology on the Toyota, 6 years after the 08 Lexus was launched?

Pls I just had a little scratch on my hubby's car and I don't want him to find out about it cos I know his temperament. Do I need to go to mechanic to use spray on it so that it won't be noticeable, or is it something I can do by myself. Like getting the paint and using it on d scratched area.
I don't know how deep it is but if it didn't get to bare metal, use brake fluid and take out the other car's paint. If it got to the bare metal, just confess so you don't make it worse by spraying the section that has the issue

Just bought 06 toyota corrolla and wanna pimped it to make it CLASSIC.pls, what are the things to change on it and colour to be used.the car colour is GREY
There are a few basic things to do
Wheels and tires
Do a muffler upgrade, a glass muffler will make your car sound nicer, and perhaps even the exhaust tip upgrade too
Air intake upgrade
You can wrap the car, or use Plasti dip to get it looking wonderful. With eithernof these, you won't have to paint and they last upwards of 3years
Upgrade your front and rear lights to LEDs, and on the interior, LEDs too with mood lighting.

Naturally aspirated is the way forward for me.
The sweet spot in the dodge challenger / charger lineup is the Scat pack, 6.4l v8, churning our 485 hp.
The Lexus ISF and GSF not later than 2012,they make upwards of 416hp from a 5.0l v8
The Porsche Panamera GTS not later than 2016, they added turbos in the 2017 Panamera GTS

Hello auto gurus and lovers, I came across this Suzuki vitara 2006 on jiji and fell in love with its body and interior. Also I noticed it's affordable and I have checked through for other suzuki jeeps and I love them. Please anyone with either good or bad experience with the vehicle before I commit my heart and money on it. Please I haven't bought any personal car and this will be the first.
I need your counsel please and on other suzuki models.
Thanks
Suzuki makes reliable cars. I got one for my BIL and he used it for 6years and gave it out when he bought another car. All he did was basic service and replace worn parts, due to age.
Just ensure you do your due diligence so you don't buy a lemon

Interesting discussion. Toyota's Celica (with the beams 3sge&3sgte engines) and even the Supra are driver's cars. Benz has luxury but their cars aren't designed as sports cars IMO. Toyota has a few really great driver's cars and are reliable sort of (depending on which model- how people regard a car with engines that short oil as reliable beats me). Infiniti I know little about.
Here are screenshots of a Quora answer about what Germans think of their cars.

I mean, it completely depends on the engine...
An engine with forged internals takes power like a champ.

There are also loads of four cylinder turbo cars that have gotten to the 300k miles.
True. I always prefer NA engines, especially for cars I want to keep for long, and I always buy cars I can keep for long. Toyota has a few performance engines, and you can swap them into your car for extra power. That will be more efficient than throwing money at some cars, what you'll get is a busted engine. Money down the drain
Car Talk / Re: 6 Ways To Increase Horsepower In A 4 -cylinder Engine Car by ivoryhouse(m): 11:38am On May 02, 2020
Carmartng:
Most of the cars you see on the road today are four-cylinder engine cars. Its advantages include small and compact, which makes it fit easily in nearly any engine bay. It’s also lightweight, and with only one exhaust manifold, weight is further reduced. With only one cylinder head and a few moving parts than engines with multiple cylinder banks.

They are versatile in modern vehicles, one may be disappointed with the power they produce. There are several steps that can be taken to get more horsepower from a 4-cylinder engine. There are many different ways to get better engine performance. Modern technology and advancements in transportation and engineering, automakers have finally come up with ways to improve one of the most versatile components in a vehicle (The horsepower).

It’s no doubt that anything is possible and increasing the horsepower of one’s car isn’t left out. There are a number of ways to pull more power out of the four-cylinder motor in your car or truck. Depending on your budget and skill set, you may choose to pursue a number of options, but be aware that many of these modifications may void your warranty.

Here are some steps to increase your horsepower;

Maintain your vehicle
Owning a vehicle comes with extra responsibility and one of such is proper vehicle maintenance. One way of carrying out the above stated is by following instructions and directives provided in the vehicle’s manual.

It is important that fluids such as oil are changed routinely. Ensure that air and fuel filters are periodically replaced. This allows free airflow into the engine.

Install a cold air intake
Installing a cold air intake is one sure way to improve a car’s horsepower. To install a cold air intake, you would first need to remove your car’s stock intake tube and airbox that surrounds the air filter.

When air is compressed it will increase in temperature. However, when air is hot, it will not expand much when it ignites. To ensure that the most expansion occurs on combustion, the air should be cold. So a cold air intake is key. Most superchargers tend to have an intercooler that will chill the air before it goes into the cylinder. When you increase the amount of air that flows into your engine, you are also increasing your gas mileage. It, therefore, gives you big savings in the long run. However, most aftermarket intakes tend to produce an obvious noise during operation. This is their only downside since stock ones are a lot quieter.

Improve your car’s exhaust flow
A car’s exhaust refers to a system that is responsible for conveying burnt gases from the engine and may include one or more exhaust pipes. A car’s exhaust flow can be improved by replacing the portions of the exhaust with pipes that have larger diameters. This will reduce the backpressure that limits the speed that the exhaust takes to the car’s engine.

Reprogram your vehicle’s computer
There are chances of reprogramming for contemporary car models as it is believed that lots of it’s activities and a number of variables are controlled by a computer. There are computers programmed to balance efficiency, emissions, reliability, power output and gas mileage. Reprogramming the computer to prioritize power can often free up the horsepower without installing any new components. You can have the computer reprogrammed so that power can be prioritized. This way, more horsepower will be generated without having to install anything else on the vehicle. You can search the web or your locality for people or companies that offer computer replacement for your vehicle. This can be achieved in two ways; firstly, Your car’s present computer can be sent to a servicing company for reprogramming or you purchase another for it’s replacement.

Get a new throttle body
The throttle body is a tube containing a pivoting flat valve (butterfly) that is used to control the amount of air entering an engine. The throttle bodies are usually kept in place by four bolts. These will also require a new gasket that needs to be placed in between the intake manifold and the throttle body. installing a throttle body with a larger diameter will allow even more air to flow into the engine, resulting in an increase of power. It is important to note that a throttle body is often measured in millimeters.

Increase the Compression ratio
The compression ratio refers to the volume of the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke versus the volume of the cylinder when the piston is at the top of its stroke. when the compression ratio increases, then a higher octane fuel is needed. Higher octane fuels will not combust too early. This is the reason why most high-performance vehicles require high octane fuel and this, in turn, will improve a car’s engine.

https://carmart.ng/public/blog/6-ways-to-increase-horsepower-in-a-4-cylinder-engine-car/
This is true for 4bangers with performance engines like the 3sge, 3sgte, etc. For others, buy faster cars and save your money.

OP you are talking about increasing horsepower and you put picture of Corolla there, do you think there is a way to make a tortoise faster other than setting it's hind on fire?

If you are planning to make a car faster you don't buy a Toyota Corolla in the first place, that is why you don't see a Corolla or Camry in fast and furious.

When I put it on my scanner it showed codes for heater sensor and crankshaft/crankshaft sensor pending.
Sir what can you say is wrong with car and possible solution to it. Thanks as I look forward to your reply.
Check the fluid for 1.If it's got the right transmission fluid. 2. If it's at the right level. 3. If it's smelling burnt. 4. If the transmission filter is clogged up with dirt. Correct the anomaly, and I'd advise you stop using the car till you've corrected it. Service the transmission, replace filters, then drive and give feedback. The car guru, you're too much, kudos for helping us with with solutions
