Being able to read in your dialect isn't literacy. I believe the Igbos and Yorubas also had their means of communication which was as well in their dialect but at that era most Yorubas and Igbos like the likes of Awolowo and Akintola got Western Education while the Northerners were busy plotting coup upon coup.
