Politics › Re: Oh Godswill Akpabio Is D Man, This Is Wow, Am Short Of Words. by Iykopee(m): 12:27pm On Nov 08, 2014 |
Chylo: Hmm.....nice one. However, one of the reasons why NIGERIANS are daily short changed by their leaders is because majority don't even know the difference between what they want and what they need. Stadium is good but at what expense? One of the reasons why we keep saying this government is clueless is because of the penchant in celebrating minor things at the expense of major and needful things. For crying out loud, there is poverty in the land AND AKWA IBOM IS NOT EXEMPTED. Why a stadium?
Now, this is not just criticism for the fun of it but simple logic. I do not, in any way, think that the very first problem of Akwa Ibom is that of a world class stadium. Ask yourself, HOW WILL THAT STADIUM BE PUT TO USE SUCH THAT GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY CAN BE OBTAINED? As of the last time I checked, Nigerian sporting activities have not reached that commercial status such that billions are raked in yearly especially when compared with other sport loving countries to warrant this kind of project. Yes, some people will quickly refer to football but can we say that our football is properly commercialised to warrant this kind of multi billion Naira project? Even in the countries where sporting activities are well commercialised, government tries as much as possible to avoid projects like this because of the cost involved. A good example is the UK where the recently built Olympic stadium has been concessioned to a football club (West Ham united) in order for cost to be maximised. By government's reasoning, West Ham football club will do a better job with the stadium than it (the stadium) remaining a government property with little or no use. Your guess is as good as mine on what will happen when a facility is not put into regular use.
To those who are ignorantly celebrating this wastage called stadium, ask yourself if there is any commercial gains that will be made from the stadium. This is not rocket science but simple logic. How much of sporting activities would that stadium get in order to recoup the invested money? After all, capital projects like this one are supposed to bring back some profits. I can bet with any amount that our lack of maintenance culture in nigeria is the very first albatross of that stadium not to now talk of the uncertain political intrigues that will follow once this government quits and another one takes over. A flash back at the tinapa project in calabar would suffice here. The world celebrated it when it was completed and inaugurated but today, what happened to it?
I would have loved a government like this, with so much money to spend, to have been more involved in pragmatic programs targeted at the people like building a world class hospital and accessible and affordable healthcare, good transport scheme, social security scheme for elderly, tax credit and relief etc. But like I said earlier, most NIGERIANS want good governance but they don't have a clue on what it means. They cannot differentiate between their wants and their needs and that's why these leaders give them just anything and they (the people) start celebrating.
Until we start getting our priorities right in this country, we are not likely to make much progress as far as development is concerned. U have spoken the undeniable truth like u said, there are numerous oda areas to lay more priority than building a stadia that has little or no economic impact to the people. Still, i think this project is a legacy project that subsequent govt shud handle with utmost care. Besides, AKS has received lot of facelift in critical sectors. yet i believe there shud be more capital investment in sectors u highlighted to elevate the economic status of the people and the state. |

datolee: HAHAHA, actually i was confused with your question until I saw your link. Lets go straight to talk
1. The date of the news is 7 November 2014
2. The CBN governor at this time is Emefiele not SLS
3. Here is what i wrote about SLS and Emefiele Emefiele and SLS are the CBN governors under GEJ, while one SLS believes in defending the naira, the other Emefiele does not believe as much
4. Emefiele stopped defending the naira as hard as SLS this explained why the external reserve rose to over $1 billion with 1 month of SLS bowing out office http://www.tribune.com.ng/news/news-headlines/item/12820-foreign-reserves-rises-by-1-4bn-in-1month
5. Emefiele just like soludo believed in tactical or deliberate devaluation of naira as against defending it
6. Now read this... When sanusi left office in June, the reserve was $37.3 billion, in june, 1 month of Emefiele it rose to $40.2 billion. http://nationalmirroronline.net/new/nigerias-foreign-reserves-rise-to-40-2bn-cbn/
7. Does it mean that the magical depletor of the reserve vanished as soon as Emefiele or was it because of change in poilcy, of which the result is decrease in value of naira and tactical devaluation ^^^ after reading the above links, i shudder @ sanusi defending the naira with our external reserve that eventually led to depletion. Emefiele change of tact in policy brought the reserve to an appreciable point.. Will the APC defenders of evil counteract the above links? |

Again, this reason is also a foolish one. Those that "loved " democracy, how have we performed under them. Ask ur fathers, Shagari was a mess and the people were tired. u aren't more Nigerian than him. He has every right to contest and if he hates democracy he won't keep going to law court anytime he is being robbed. ^^^ yes he hates democracy as presented in the days he ruled...he neva allowed others to go to court for their own cause. So his going to court justifies nothing aswell. |

datolee: Like seriously, do you know what value Naira would have been now if not for the strategy?
Again, you keep missing my point, the strategy to defend the naira in from CBN not president. Here is the example: Emefiele and SLS are the CBN governors under GEJ, while one SLS believes in defending the naira, the other Emefiele does not believe as much.
Which policy is right? I don't know, ask the CBN governors and they will give you reasons.
What i object is saying that Jonathan depleted the external reserve as though withdrew the money and use it for other purposes ^^^ was the OP arguing against reasons presented by sanusi that culminated in depletion of our foreign reserve or he has sometin else to say about it? barcanista's line of argument is quite not clear analytically. |

Politics › Re: Falana Blasts Buhari Over Presidential Form ‘loan’ by Iykopee(m): 3:17pm On Oct 24, 2014 |
menabadoo: Senior lawyer, Femi Falana, has faulted the decision of a presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammad Buhari, to take out a bank loan to purchase his party’s intent form for the presidential race.
Mr. Falana spoke on Thursday in Abeokuta at the 2014 Press Week of the Paramount F.M chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ogun State Council, on the topic, Current Security Challenges; Implications For 2015 Election.
“That action of taking bank loan is indefensible. I have condemned it and political parties should do something about that. If you are obtaining loans for forms, what about elections? Elections cost billions in Nigeria and that should be discouraged,” Mr. Falana said.
He enjoined Nigerians to shun ethnic, religious and other primordial sentiments in voting in candidates.
He said what Nigerians should look out for are qualities that will fix roads, reduce poverty and deal with insecurity issue.
Similarly, Mr. Falana charged the media not to extend undue favour to any candidate or political party. He said their report should also be issue based, while more effort should be directed at fighting corruption.
Mr. Falana stressed that only individuals with competence and commitment should get Nigerians’ votes.
On local government autonomy, Mr. Falana said in the true sense of the word, no arm of government in Nigeria is truly autonomous, arguing that as long as states continued to run to Abuja for survival, autonomy exists only on paper.
www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/170002-falana-blasts-buhari-over-presidential-form-loan.html its most annoying that buhari started by telling Nigerians lies that he borrowed money to purchase a form for 2015 presidential elections gamble . how can we trust this exponential liar to be the messiah |

egift: In 2011, Nigerians were pitying a Zoologist who wan being intimidated by Mrs. Turai Yar'Adua, unable to hold Federal Executive Council meetings because the woman will not allow him to seat on the Presidential seat. Everyone who got too lucky, and hard hoped he will write his name in Gold.
But having spent 5 years in power and running one of the guarded corrupt administration, here are some of the things that made its way to public glare. Add yours.
- Mishandling the abduction of the ChibokGirls. - Inconsistency in the handling Boko Haram crisis. And the apparent shielding of Boko Haram Sponsors for reasons best know to him. - When asked to declare his assets, he declared - "I Don't Give A Dam" - He was also wrong for claiming not to know where the Girls were held (his top general publicly said he know). - He protect known Boko Haram sponsors. Even traveled to Chad with one. - Senate provided additional funds to pay for Subsidy till April 2012, but Jonathan ambushed Nigerians who traveled to Xmas in 2011 with his anti-people policy. - Till date nobody is jail for looting N100b Police funds. Till date there is not record of over 20billion of that money. - Jonathan and his minister organized illegal immigration job scam, 19 applicants got killed, he did not employ even one of them and none of the applicants were refunded the money the government extorted from them. - How about the persecution of #BringBackOurGirls campaigners. After 6 months of continuous campaign, Jonathan have not even spoken to the group (is he not worse than the cabal that kept him in Mrs Turai's kitchen?) - In order to have monopoly of spending money from sales of Crude oil (a duty of the Federal Executive Council), for 3 years he did not remit $49billion. - When Sanusi wrote him, he kept quiet, when it became public knowledge, he denied it. But when more details were release and Sanusi refused to back down, they came with a long list of what NNPC did with it (Refineries maintenance, running cost, funding the budget, paying subsidy, funding FG projects). Who sent them? - Till date, Jonathan cannot account for $10.8 billion and if you add the funds illegally spent on Kerosene Subsidy, it will amount to $20 billion. - Jonathan abhors clean hands. See Ribadu, Soludo and Sanusi - individuals lured, deceived and clamped down on for trying the little they can. - Out of Jonathan's numerous Committees, none have been completely implemented. Some are even completely abandoned. - Jonathan is receptive to Corruption, even communities in the SS paid by oil companies never got the money. Few people ambushed and shared the money (Jonathan and his anti-corruption agencies are silent). Even people that have served jail time are pardoned. - Many Nigerians are suffering for not compromising their patriotism to the nation. Here is a word from the president to them "Stealing Is Not Corruption". How are they suppose to remain strong now that it is now officially against them. - Jonathan have not put any high profile thief in jail (even in the villages). Under Jonathan, don't steal - If you must, make it big (nothing will happen to you, you will even get a front row). - All the money reserved for difficult years ahead have been depleted by Jonathan and his crew instead of growing it. - A commander in chief who cannot visit some sections of Nigeria as if they are foreign lands.
Jonathan's afflictions are mostly self inflicted and an offshoot of mismanagement. Corruption will be voted out in 2015.
God bless Nigeria. Crap from a boko sympathizer. |

Marotzke: So the American ambassador has the exact details of funds allocated to the Nigerian army for the purchase of armaments eh? That means he also knows the contractors or was the money given personally to Ihejirika to go for the arms auction?
What of payment details? I suppose Ngozi went to CBN and hauled the cash from under the nose of Sanusi direct to Ihejirika? Bypassing minister for Defence, chief of defence staff, permanent secretary ministry of Defence, director of army finance.
This Ihejirika must be a superman or a janus faced entity, whom while being chief of army staff was also a field officer superintending over the massacres of innocent Boko Haram insurgents. At the same time this Same Ihejirika was in full custody of army finances, sole army armament contractor who pockets the entire money budgeted for arms procurement?
