The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Thursday launched a probe into the N1.3billion scandal in the Football House, with the grilling of some top officials. The identities of those quizzed could not be ascertained at press time last night. It was, however, gathered that they are bureaucrats. The EFCC has retrieved some vital documents that can aid its investigation from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) secretariat in Abuja. The anti-graft agency has sent investigators to South Africa to confirm some findings from the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA). The EFCC on Tuesday summoned former NFF president Sani Lulu and three others – former Vice-President Amanze Uchegbulam, General Secretary Bolaji Ojo-Oba and Technical Committee chair Taiwo Ogunjobi. The team to South Africa is to verify some allegations and confirm the funds given to the NFF by FIFA. Some of the allegations against the disbanded NFF board are: Diversion and misappropriation of $5million grant from FIFA, CAF and other donors; mismanagement of $1.2million grant from FIFA; and incurring a fine of $125,000 in South Africa over a deal with Hampshire Hotel in the course of looking for "a cheap hotel" for the Super Eagles. The hotel was below FIFA standard. "There have been claims and counter-claims on who did what in South Africa. We need to be on ground to check records too," the source said. EFCC spokesman Femi Babafemi said: "I don’t have any details; all I know is that investigation is still on." |
NIGERIA’s senior national team’s technical adviser Lars Lagerback has tipped Portsmouth FC of England’s leggy striker Nwankwo Kanu as the best prospect to handle the Super Eagles in the future. NIGERIA’s senior national team’s technical adviser Lars Lagerback has tipped Portsmouth FC of England’s leggy striker Nwankwo Kanu as the best prospect to handle the Super Eagles in the future. Disclosing this to newsmen inside the conference room in Durban stadium on Tuesday night Lagerback, who was on the hot seat with Kanu, urged the Nigerian to take to coaching immediately so that he can impact the knowledge that he has acquired playing football for top-class European clubs on younger Nigerian lads. The Swede appealed to Kanu to proceed on a coaching course where he can update his knowledge further and be taught the rudiments of modern day football. In his response, Kanu, wore a wiry smile but stated that everything about his future in the game would have to wait since he needs time to reflect on the options before him before making a final decision. Asked his views on Nigeria’s ouster from the South Africa 2010 World Cup, Kanu said: “If you do not score goals, you do not stand any chance of winning matches and we saw that in the game against South Korea. We lost so many goal-scoring chances and we paid dearly for it. “Some of us played poorly but this is not a time to blame anyone. No goals, no victory in football no matter how well people say that you played. Congratulations to South Korea,” Kanu said. http://thenationonlineng.net/web3/football-golf-boxing/3400.html |

i 100% support the president 's decision. we need a president who can act and not just one mumu. super eagles knows what is at stake before they refuse to win even a single match. apart from the fact that good amount of money is lost to the recklessness of the team and its memebers |
