*ALL BROILERS ARE NOT THE SAME OHH, ONE IS MORE SUITABLE TO SELL AT 4 WEEKS, ONE IS STRONGER AGAINST COLD, ONE IS STRONGER AGAINST HEAT AND ONE GROWS TALLER THAN OTHERS.* THERE ARE REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD NOT JUST BUY ANY BROILERS BREED BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE BUYING IT. PEOPLE BUY BROILERS BASED ON DIFFERENT REASONS. SOME BUY BIRDS THAT GROWS FASTER AND SELL THEM OFF FOR 4WEEKS, SOME BUY OTHER TYPE OF BROILER BREED BECAUSE THEY GROW TALLER AND ARE EASIER TO SELL OFF. SOME BUY BROILERS BASED ON THE TYPE OF TEMPERATURE AND WEATHER CONDITIONS BECAUSE THERE ARE BROILERS THAT ARE STRONGER AGAINST COLD AND SOME ARE STRONGER AGAINST HEAT. Am going to be talking about the 4 best types of broiler breed we have in Nigeria and the hatchery that produces them. and the advantages they have over themselves and you get to know which you should go for when you are ready to start poultry farming. The 4 best Broilers are 1)ROSS 308. 2)COBB 500 3)ARBOR ACRE 4)MARSHALL. 1)ROSS 308. The Ross 308 that grow that tall, are always short but very fat, they can withstand cold but they hate heat. they Ross 308 grows faster than other broilers breed. They have a good conversion ratio and are more suitable to be raised for 4-6weeks and then sell them off. they can weigh up to 2.5 at 5WEEKS of age. The hatcheries that produce them include SAYED AND AGRITED HATCHERY. 2)COBB 500. Not as fast-growing as the Ross 308, but they grow taller then Ross 308. They can’t withstand cold and often sneeze and contact CRD easily even when they are still a day old. They are also strongly resistant to heat more than Ross 308. And are more agile and resistant to diseases. Hatcheries that produce COBB 500 include ZARTECH, OLAM, CASCADA, AND NPG. 3)ARBOR ACRE. They are more similar to Ross 308 and also can weigh up to 2.7 At 6 weeks of age, they have an average daily weight gain of 93 g and an average daily weight gain of 79 g at 8 weeks of age under good conditions. They are also more resistant to diseases Hatcheries that produce ARBOR ACRE ARE AMO, CHI, AND FIDAN. 4)MARSHALL The only disadvantage is that Marshall doesn’t grow up fast like the other breeds do but they are the broilers that grow the tallest among their broilers breed. And they are more required during the celebration period because of their physical appearance. They can stay up to 12 weeks before you start marketing them. |
*5 REASONS WHY YOUR BROILERS DON'T GROW UNIFORMLY BUT SOME GROW BIG AND SOME GROW SMALL AFTER FEEDING EQUALLY.* Have You Ever Bought Day Old Broilers And After 2weeks Of Feeding You Found Out That Their Growth Is Not Uniform? It can be so painful and saddening after spending thousands of naira to buy birds, buy feeds, buy their vaccines and medications and their other essential needs and later discovering that after all those efforts your birds are not growing or some are growing more than the others or you just discovered that your birds are not uniform. I can tell that kind of situation can be so disheartening and depressing and make you want to give up on poultry farming. But wait for hold on don’t give up there are a lot of things you didn’t know and didn’t learn about before you started your poultry farm, and this lack of knowledge I bet will cost you more than what you will have used to acquire the necessary knowledge before starting. Now straight to business do you know broilers are not just broilers in Nigeria? the hatcheries that sell broilers to us in Nigeria sell different types of breeds to us that’s why if you buy For example agrited (Ross 308) last month and this month you bought Zartech (Cobb 500) you will have different results. And if you don’t know about this before, have written a post about it just scroll up in the group to find the post. HERE ARE THE 7REASONS WHY BIRDS DONT GROW UNIFORMLY. 1) The hatchery you ordered your birds from or the type of broiler breed you were supplied.- The first reason your birds don’t bring out quality is that they are not from quality hatcheries so if you buy birds from suppliers because the birds they advertised to you are far cheaper than the hatcheries that produce quality birds your birds are very likely not to grow uniformly. and you may end up with results you won’t like. 2)You don’t prioritize the first 5days of your birds. While every day in the life of a broiler chicken is important to their growth and the first 5 days can make or mar the life of your chicks. In other words, what you do or fail to do in the first five days can impact your chicks throughout the rearing season, be it 6 weeks or more. So, you must pay close attention to your chicks and give them the necessary attention needed to give them a good start. Get a good multivitamin, Antibiotics, and Anticoccidiosis for them, and also feed them professional or good starter feed for their first 7days. 3)Your male birds always grow fast and are always bigger than the female birds. Males birds eat well and faster than female birds and because of this, even if your birds are healthy and you have done all things to make them have the same weight they still won’t because the females will always weigh lower than the males 4)You don’t lay a good foundation for your birds because you feed them low-quality feeds even on Day 1? Oh no no don’t do this don’t ever do this because if you do you have already caused problems for them. Feeding your birds low-quality feed starting from day one will make them give you results you don’t want to have in the next few weeks. 5)Another reason why you may later end up with non-uniform birds is because of a disease outbreak and this will occur if you Don’t care for your birds and don’t brood them with the required heat they need at day old. If you also give your birds low-quality feeds they won't be able to build the immune system that will help them resist and fight against diseases and this will also make you spend more money on drugs and medications. If you brood your birds well you will spend less on their medications. Izzymore Agro |

*7 METHODS THAT WILL HELP YOU SELL MORE BROILERS THIS SEASON, ONLY IF YOU WILL APPLY THEM.* 1. Target a Market Larger than Your Supply In selling your broiler chickens, you need a fairly large market. I mean, don’t start counting the number of members in your community or church group and thing they will all buy. You should target a market that is big enough, such that even if 1-5% of them buy your product, things would have moved. 2)Be unique among other broilers farmers who are your competitor. What are you adding to your birds that will make customers desire you more than others that are selling the same birds like you ? You need to look for ways to convince your customers to choose you for example Are your chickens bigger ? Are they very clean? Do you offer delivery? Do you slaughter and dress? 3)Bulk Sales is the Magic of Selling Broiler Chickens Yes! Bulk sales can be very rewarding. First, with bulk sales, you get to sell all your chickens faster and you can start raising another batch. However, one thing you should know about bulk sales is that birds go at a lesser per/unit price. This is because people who buy in bulk are re-sellers to restaurants. 4)Use What's app And Facebook to Sell Your Broiler Chickens More. Thanks to technology, you can join farmers groups on Facebook, Telegram and market your product. You can post the photos of your birds ready for sell on your WhatsApp status update and Instagram. 5.Start Advertising your birds even before you buy DOC And before you start Brooding. Don’t wait until the rush hour. One thing you should know is that human beings are the most unstable in thinking. This minute, they are thinking to buy, and the next minute, they have even forgotten about the product. This is why you need to start advertising early and continue to do it consistently.Sometimes, you just have to be aggressive at it. 6. Market and Sell Chickens to Cool Rooms And Frozen Foods Suppliers In marketing your chickens, a lot of factors should be considered. And this is where nearness to your target market comes into play. Even if you don’t have any frozen foods store near you, they can come for your chickens and buy them from your farm. One of the advantages of this method is that the processing plant can buy any quantity of chickens you have to sell. 7. Using Middle Men or Brokers Almost every business has middle men across its value chain. People that connect the buyer to the seller. They exist in the poultry sector too. In fact, they run most of the business activities and they take most of the gain, which is why I don’t like using them. But they have their own advantages. They will help you sell your birds faster when you use them. Izzymore Agro. |

*KNOW THIS ABOUT BROODING!!* Often Time, Farmers Ask About How Long Does It Takes To Brood. Here are few tips to guide you to a successful brooding 1. Brooding is weather or location dependent. But, a good brooding shouldn't be less than 0 - 2 weeks. 2. Most people make mistake of mistaken early feather coverings or growth on birds as a good brooding practise and therefore no need of supplying heat anymore. 3. This practise is wrong simply because for the period of brooding, your birds secretes or generate a certain required amount of insulin which is responsible for feather growth and body temperature regulation. This insulin is gotten from the proteinous content of the feed they take in. 4. The insulin is meant to be secreted in minute quantity especially where there's adequate supply of heat. This therefore means that when you fail to supply adequate heat during brooding, the birds will be forced to convert the larger part of the protein feed content into insulin which will make them generate feathers ontime that will be used to regulate thier body temperature 5. So, if you withdraw heat from your birds simply cos they have feather growings already they have only been successful In converting the feed meant for body weight into feathers generation. And you'll agree with me that most feeds that comes with super starter or starter has greater percentage of protein contents. 6. Irrespective of your weather location, there's a temperature guide for the period of brooding practises. More reason why you need a Thermometer to measure the heat intensity and regulate appropriately. Thier are other ways to justify if heat is adequate in the brooding room as well. 7. A well brooded bird at 3 weeks will inturn show you little or no feathers, protruded anus region with a bulky visible flesh and thick legs.. This is so cos they've have been able to have good FCR instead of converting the feed to generate feathers. 8. If you're conversant with your birds, you'll easily notice that the birds with more feather coverings mostly has lesser weight compared to the ones with less feathers but with visible thick flesh. 9. Please, practise good brooding cos it is the major indicator for birds who will come up with good FCR and produce good average weight for you. Izzymore Agro |
*Main Reasons Why Laying Birds Often Drop Shelless,Cracked,Brown Colored,Dirty,Soft-Shelled And Blood Stained Eggs.* 1. Pale shelled Egg The degree of brown color in the egg shell is determined by the quality of deposited pigment in the cuticle. Causes: When your birds starts dropping eggs that has small small brown colour know that it could have been caused by Infectious bronchitis, Bird age (older hen), High stress in the flock, Egg Drop Syndrome, Use of chemotherapeutic agents (i.e. sulfonamides and nicarbazin) 2. Pink Eggs The egg appears to be pink or lilac due to the association between the cuticle and an extra calcium layer. Causes of pink colour in eggs are Stress, Excess calcium in the feed 3. Dirty Eggs If the egg shell is stained by feces, it is important that you start avoiding Feed ingredients which causes wet and sticky droppings. Causes of dirty eggs Wet droppings, Large amounts ofindigestible compounds in the feed, Poor gut health, Electrolyte imbalance/saline water 4. Blood Stained Eggs Blood stained eggs Usually comes from pullets that are in their early laying stage, eggs could also be stained with blood as a result of prolapse, Vent pecking, or cannibalism. Causes: Blood stained eggs is usually caused by Overweight pullets, Pullets that starts laying eggs early because of overfeeding, large increases in day length, Poor hygiene: Cage, trays, belt pick-up system. 5.Shelless Eggs Laid without a shell layer, or eggs that easily breaks when you touch them, these eggs are protected only by the shell membrane. Causes: Shelless eggs is caused by Newcastle Diseases, Immature shell gland, Disease: Avian Influenza, NDV, infectious bronchitis, Egg Drop Syndrome, Can also be caused by Inadequate nutrition: Calcium, phosphorus, manganese, or vitamin D3 6.Soft shelled Eggs Laid with an incomplete shell, only a thin layer of calcium is deposited on the shell membrane. Causes: Excessive phosphorus consumption, Heat stress, Bird age (older hen), Saline water, Mycotoxins 7.Cracks This problem includes hair line cracks, star cracks, or large cracks that result in a hole in the shell. Causes: Heat stress, Saline water, Bird age (older hen), Inadequate nutrition: Calcium and vitamin D3, Mycotoxins 8.Calcium Coated Eggs An extra layer of calcium can be seen all over the egg or on just one end. Causes: Defective shell gland, Disturbances during calcification, Excess calcium in the diet. 9)Calcium Deposits These eggs are classified by white, irregularly shaped spots deposited on the external surface of the shell. Causes: Defective shell gland, Disturbances during calcification Excess calcium in the diet 10)Misshapen Eggs These eggs are too small or large, round instead of oval, or differ from normal shapes. Causes: Immature shell gland, Disease: Avian Influenza, NDV, infectious bronchitis, Egg Drop Syndrome, Stress, Overcrowding 11) Slab sided Eggs The second egg that enters the shell gland pouch is not as complete as the first egg and is flattened where the eggs made contact. Causes: Stress, Changes in lighting, Disease

16 STEPS FARMERS TAKE IN BROODING DAY OLD CHICKS TO ENSURE THEIR BIRDS HAVE HIGH SURVIVAL RATE. 1)Upon chicks’ arrival, do the unboxing exercise as quickly as possible, count them and dip each chick’s beak into a waterer to be sure that it gets a drink. 2)While you are unboxing, check for deformed chicks and those with an unhealed navel. Treat them to prevent omphalitis. 3)Check for underweight chicks and separate them from the rest. They might end up being runts. Separating them will allow you to manage them properly, thus, giving them a better chance of survival. 4)Vaccinate them against Newcastle and Marek's diseases if they hasn’t been done at the hatchery. 5)Lunch them into their new environment and Observe the chicks closely and see how they respond to the heat. 6)The chicks’ behavior will tell you whether the brooder temperature is correct. If they huddle close to the heat source, it is too cold; if they crowd the brooder guard or crowd at angle 90 degrees of the space you put them. It is too hot! If they are evenly dispersed, you got the heating right. 7)Check the distribution of the chicks often for the first 2 weeks, and see that they have feed and water even at night. Watch the chicks every 30 minutes continuously for the first few days. If any is ill, remove such. The first few days, chicks will pick at anything; they cannot tell a feeding area from the rest of the floor, so it is wise to have feed scattered over a large area. Put newspaper or cut cardboard boxes down on the floor and scatter feed on them to supplement the chick-sized feeders.9)During the brooding stage, chicks will eat through the night since light is available continuously. They should never be without feed for more than 30 minutes at a time (the same is true for mature birds during daylight). 10)Spend time every day just observing the flock. As they grow, see if they are all about the same size and are putting out feathers at about the same rate.If so, the chicks probably are healthy, from good stock, and receiving a good feed. Watch for any inactive chicks. Those that standstill for more than 10 minutes are most likely sick. 11)On the third day, allow the chicks to finish the feed in the feeders. From then on, fill the feeders half full. If chicks are eating well, remove the paper or cardboard. 12)For the rest of the chickens’ lives, completely change their water every day at dawn and in the early afternoon, rinsing the waterers out as you do so. Chickens should have water available at all times. 13)On the fourth day, begin looking for signs of coccidiosis. If there is a serious outbreak, take immediate action. Be alert for coccidiosis until the flock is at least 12 weeks old. On the sixth day, be sure that there is evenly disperse grit (stone particles) in the feeders to supplement the ones in the commercial feed. 14)On the seventh day, the 1st Lasota vaccination is recommended. 15)On the twenty-first day, provide larger feeders. 16)On the eighty-fourth day, increase feed and water space. Begin a lighting program, if appropriate. |
