Education › Re: Laptop Fee In UNN Causes Hardship Among Students (photos) by j4sure(m): 8:20am On Nov 08, 2015 |
Na waoh OgaInnocent: This issue has obviously lingered. UNN belongs to the Fed. Govt.; let them intervene.
Let me summarise: UNN VC, simply known as Dr. Ozumba compelled all the newly admitted students of UNN to pay 70,000 naira as Laptop Fee which the school will supply. The fee has caused a lot of hardship in the new intakes as it escalated the school fees to 170,000 naira.
Acceptance fee: 25,000 School fees: 60 - 65,000 Laptop fee: 70,000 Accommodation: 10,000(boys) 11,000(girls)
Total: 165,000 - 171,000
The students have expressed their discomfort with this to no avail. They are of the view that some have laptops already, some say that they can get a nice Laptop with just 40,000. Yet the case the case still remains "No laptop fee, no clearance in UNN"
The SUG on their own have not done a thing concrete to reverse this. That's the summary of the status quo in UNN now.

Congrats oopoo FlirtyKaren: The only child of Bishop Mike Okonkwo of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Uche Okonkwo today wedded her husband, Onyekachi Asugha in church.
The grand white wedding held at the Cathedral of his glory, Anthony Oke, Lagos. Interestingly, the Bishop not only walked his daughter down the aisle but also performed the joining of the couple.
According to Uche's makeup artiste, Labisi Folawiyo, here's how the Bishop reacted when he saw his daughter for the first time in her wedding gown this morning:
Sneak Peek of the Beautiful Uche this morning... My Heart sings at this portrait! Then guess who came to surprise us!!!! #DaddyDearest. He was at the hotel at past 8 for a 10am service! He waited patiently and when he saw her fully dressed (I was teary eyed at this point obviously!), he was lost for words for the first few seconds... #AFathersLove. Then eventually, when he could gather his thoughts, all he could say was "Wow, this is Excellent! This is Excellent. Excellent." #OldSchool And off they went to the Altar!
General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor EA Adeboye was present to bless the couple.

[Okquote author=metronaija post=39751325]Former Lagos governorship aspirant, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has announced on Twitter that he is temporarily leaving politics and has decided returned to back to school. “Good morning everyone. Recent developments have necessitated a subtle change in the handling of my communications channel," he tweeted on Friday. “The exit of my aide @MrFixNigeria from my party means that this account is no longer managed by him – it is a task he performed well. “I wish him well in both his personal and political future and hope that @tessloconcepts will continue to make sharp suits for me. “The future of PDP lies with our youths who have what it takes, not only to be at the helms of affairs with us, but also away from it. “As I take a break from 16 years of almost unbroken service to both State and Country and to apply myself to further education, I’m encouraged that the spirit of Nationalism & Patriotism which I helped ignite in our youths (partisan or non) will never die. “The mantles of Nationalism and Patriotism to Nigeria must be worn at all times by all of us and especially the youths of our country. I condole with @PrinceEbeano on the recent fire disaster to his business and pray that he will bounce back fast, higher and stronger. “Kudos to all who support PDP on twitter and all social media platforms – let’s keep our engagement patriotic and decent at all times. I’m always excited to have constructive and engaging conversations about the way forward for our nation and of course Lagos. I therefore look forward to continuous positive interactions with everyone both here on twitter and also on facebook. “We stand together for a better Nigeria irrespective of party, tribe or opinion. God bless you all and God bless Nigeria.” http://www.metronaija.com/2015/11/obanikoro-takes-break-from-politics.htmlcc: lalasticlala[/quote] |

Politics › Re: Saraki's Lawyers Vow To Report CCT Chairman To NJC. by j4sure(m): 8:40am On Nov 06, 2015 |
Only God can stop corruption in Nigeria. wengerjay: The legal team of the Senate president, Dr Bukola Saraki, has vowed to send a protest letter to the National Judicial Council (NJC) over the alleged biased conduct of the chair of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Mr. Danladi Umar, in the trial of their client who is facing charges of false assets declaration in Abuja.
Yesterday, three Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), Mr. Ahmed Raji, Alhaji Mahmoud Magagi and Saka Abimbola Isah, who led the legal team of the Senate president, all staged a walkout on the conduct tribunal chairman to protest alleged bias in the trial.
A source last night said that the legal team had resolved to report the tribal chairman to the NJC.
“You just wait and see the action we will take in the next few days. We cannot continue like this in this country. The judicial body has to intervene in this matter,” the source said.
The angry lawyers, accompanied by about 100 others, withdrew their services in the prosecution of Saraki by federal government, accusing the tribunal of open bias against the number three citizen and displaying judicial rascality in handling the case.
The anger of the lawyers arose when the tribunal chairman, Mr. Umar, ruled that he would not stay the trial in spite of Saraki’s pending appeal at the Supreme Court.
Magaji, who first withdrew his services in the trial, told the tribunal point-blank that going ahead with the prosecution amounted to daring and prejudicing the Supreme Court in the pending appeal case of the Senate president.
He told the chairman that, as a senior counsel in the bar and a minister in the temple of justice, he would not wish to be part of an illegality and an affront on the apex court.
Mr. Raji, who followed suit in withdrawing from the suit, told the tribunal chairman he was setting a bad precedent by sitting on the same issue at the same time with the Supreme Court.
Raji explained that apart from the law and practice, it was the tradition of respect that when the Supreme Court had been invited into a matter, the lower court will, as a matter of tradition, allow the apex court decide the matter first before taking over.
“In my capacity as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, I have not seen where this kind of conduct will be exhibited against the apex court of the country. The action of this Code of Conduct Tribunal is an affront on the constitution and to the Supreme Court and, from my own side, I will not wish to be part of this act.
“I find it most impossible to sit down here and participate in a proceeding whose legality is being challenged at the Supreme Court.”
Earlier, both Magaji and Raji had asked the tribunal to stay proceedings pending the time the Supreme Court will make pronouncement in Saraki’s appeal in which he is challenging the legality of his trial.
They cited several authorities to buttress their arguments on the need for the tribunal to grant adjournment.
But in a ruling, the chairman of the tribunal dismissed the application for adjournment and agreed with the prosecution counsel, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) that trial should go ahead in spite of the appeal at the Supreme Court.
The tribunal chairman held that the action of the defence was a ploy to delay the trial, adding that the arguments canvassed by Saraki’s lawyers had been overtaken by the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 which, he said, gave no room for delay in trial.
“It is an obvious fact that where a party wants to delay trial, the party normally rushes to the higher court, as in this case, but the intendment of the ACJA has taken care of such attitude where criminal trials are unjustly delayed. We will not allow that; we are going ahead with the trial,” he had ruled.
The tribunal, however, ran into trouble when no lawyer showed up to defend Saraki yesterday and he was then asked whether he would defend himself.
But the Senate president told the tribunal that he was trained in the medical line and not in law, and that it would be unfair to ask him to defend himself in a terrain he knew nothing about.
He pleaded for one month to enable him persuade his lawyers to come back or for him to look for alternatives but the tribunal insisted that one month was too long.
The case was subsequently adjourned till November 19 for trial.

o k now Tycoflu: This statement by DSS is a response to alleged siege of residence of Ex- NSA Sambo Dasuki by security operative today. PRNigeria DSS PRESS RELEASE 1. The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been brought to the report making rounds that its operatives illegally blocked the residence of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo DASUKI (Col/Rtd), in violation of a subsisting court order granting him a relief to travel oversea for medical services. This is to say the least that such report is not only unfounded and malicious but aimed at tarnishing the good image of the Service. 2. It may be recalled that SAMBO was initially arrested and charged to court for unlawful possession of firearms and money laundering, for which reason his international passport was seized and on the order of the court, returned to the registrar for custody. What has however brought the seeming standoff between SAMBO and the Service, despite the court-ordered release of his international passport on 4th November, 2015, is his refusal to appear before a Committee undertaking the investigation of an entirely different case. 3. The public may wish to note that the government set up the Committee to investigate procurement processes relating to a two billion dollar ($2billion) arms transaction by the last administration, under which SAMBO was the NSA. It was on this premise that he was invited by the Committee to shed more light on his involvement in the deal. It, therefore, remains surprising and shocking that SAMBO has refused to honour invitations of the Committee but instead resorts to grandstanding and subtle blackmail of the Service. His refusal to appear before the Committee has left the Service with no option than to adopt legal means to ensure his attendance. 4. Therefore, without doubt, SAMBO is pulling all strings available to him to evade justice and put the Service in bad light. The simple fact is that the DSS is not persecuting him. Nigerians are therefore enjoined to disregard the impression being created by him. This Service wishes to re-emphasise its commitment to the rule of law and strict adherence to democratic ideals. However, any person or group, no matter how highly placed, that may wish to test the will of the present democratic dispensation, will definitely be checked through the legal provisions of the law. Education › Re: 5 Questions Every Student Should Answer by j4sure(m): 6:21am On Nov 06, 2015 |
noted Tonischuller: To become a succeeding student who eventually graduates into a successful graduate is not always an easy task otherwise we will have less failing students, and the number of jobless plus incompetent graduates won’t be alarming.
The challenge I see on Nigerian campuses is that of a situation where many students are negligent of the reason(s) for which they’re in school and the fact that their actions or inactions are closely linked to what could come next after graduation.
To help you overcome this challenge, here are 5 questions you should provide sincere answers to. You might want to write them down along with the answers and review some of it periodically because life itself is a learning process; we learn and unlearn every day.
1. Why are you in school?
Are you in school to gain knowledge?
Is it because of the certificate?
Or could it because you wish to be able to secure a great job and a good life after graduation?
You might easily pop out answers that sound like the ones above however, I’ll want you critically review your answer(s) because providing a sincere and the right answer will definitely influence the things you do, the way you act as a student and the things you consider important.
2. What is your background?
What kind of home do you come from? Do you know your roots?
Going through school conscious of the ‘home you come from’ is important.
If where you come from provides you with no uncles or aunties who can reserve a federal government job for you then you might want to sit up and reject the lifestyle of your classmates who have their future worked out because they’ve got family members in high places.
While a student, I knew that an extra year was never an option because it was clear that there was no provision for extra school fees hence an extra year meant I’ll have to pay the fees myself.
To become successful, you need to be true to yourself. Don’t spend your life on campus as though you were born with a silver spoon when in the real sense you were born with no spoon at all.
3. What is success to you?
As you journey through school it is crucial for you to write down what success will look like at the end of the journey.
State what you’ll need to have at the end of your school that will make you feel successful. This will help to keep you away from being distracted by the successes of others.
Create a mind picture of who you will look like and the things you’ll possess at the end of your program.
Will having a grade point average of 3.5 be success for you? Will finishing with a business venture along with good grades be success for you?
4. Why will you succeed?
Don’t just fanaticize about how successful you intent to be after school.
Why do you think you will achieve your goals?
Answering this question will provide you with an arsenal of strategies you will work with to achieve your answer to question 3.
The best way to go about answering this question is to use the 2 magical words: ‘if… then…’
For example if success for you is graduating with a second class upper, then the question to ‘why will you succeed’? Can be like:
If I maintain a GP of 3.5 every semester, then I can graduate with a second class upper.
5. What should come next after graduation?
What will you want to do next after leaving school?
I get to see many students graduate into confusion. They finish school and start wondering what next to do. Many also find it difficult in knowing what next to do because they failed to prepare for ‘the next life after school’.
The number one reason why knowing what you will want to do next immediately after graduation is important is because now is the best time to begin preparation.
Will it be a second degree, Postgraduate studies, Job-hunting, or Entrepreneurship?
When you don’t know what you want to do, you can’t plan or prepare. You should know by now that getting out of school ill prepared is no longer funny.
Decide on what you’ll want to do next after graduation and start to plan for it.
Now let’s talk. What other question do you recommend every student should ask?
We will succeed!
