I might not understand your decision, but i understand an atheists mindset very clearly.

I was an atheist, i know about the supposed contradictions or irrational stories in the bible, the problem of evil and unanswered prayers including all the pro atheistic arguments.

I have followed and listened and read the ideas of several popular and well informed atheist for years. If i show you some of the posts i made as an atheist, you'd be shocked that i'm the same person. For me to be preaching today shows that something serious happened to me.

Accepting God, Jesus and the bible has a lot to do with humility and becomng like a child.

Hardening your heart, hating and turning against God or disbelievng the supernatural would not change anythng, rather it puts you at a disadvantaged position.

Like me, you can make a u-turn, but your heart won't change except you want it.

I stopped believing 14years after my uncle's death so no I didn't stop believing because of it.

In your post you said that GOD doesn't show up when the chips are down. I suppose this is what fueled your transition to atheism.

Imagine a child denouncing and fighting his father just because he didn't meet a particular need he asked for.

What sort of child would that be??

1. Um... God does not answer the prayers of the unrighteous; their pleas/requests/petitions are coated with their sins(unholiness) and hence an abomination to God. God made it clear that He only answers the prayers of the righteous; God delights in granting the righteous the desires of their hearts. For this reason, Jesus Christ urged each one of His followers to seek first the Kingdom of God(holiness), and God's righteousness, in order that all these things — the blessings and rewards of the Kingdom of God (including answers to prayers) —will be added onto each.

No matter how much one prays and engages in starvation-diet fasts even on your behalf, so long as that person remains unrighteous, God will never answer the person's prayers. The key is righteousness, not the abundance of prayers.

I was born and brought up in a severe Christian home. I have spirit filled biological father that dipped me into Scripture Union group.

Due to poverty and quest to make it quick I joined secret cult and began to meet with them for many years. I totally turned my back on God.

One day I saw a little book titled 'put your angels to work'. I desired to know more about angels because I have studied so much about guardian angels in my mystic world.

That was when I was rearrested by the powers of the Lord, who opened my eyes to the spiritual provisions He made available to all who are in Christ.

I cried and asked God for mercy and vowed to burn all my mystic books which I did.

It took quite long for me to forgive myself. My past hunted me for years and I felt not deserving of God's mercies.

That was part of the time I kept desiring the filling of the Holy Spirit and all failed. At a point I cried to God thinking that He had forsaken me. I wanted committing suicide instead of going back to the mystic cult.

My brother, keep telling yourself that the forgiveness of God is unsearchable and there is no evil life He can't forgive.

I once met an invited preacher who was a die hard armed robber. A military man by training but defected to robbery and now the Holy Spirit has arrested him.

I pray for you that the channel of grace open and the incredible light of God's love and shinny face overwhelm your heart.

May every struggles you experience in fellowship with God cease now. Receive His blessings and overwhelming love and may you locate the spiritual joy that supercedes natural understanding in Jesus name

Sometimes, when God wants to use us in a certain ministry, He first takes us on a journey to learn how to feel: reason and react like the people to whom we are sent.

Jesus Christ has become our perfect High Priest because He was in every way tempted as we are. So, He has an experience of what we're experiencing and so can minister to our needs because He understands our needs in practical terms.

Right now, you're in the better position than I to minister to Atheists because you've been there. You know how they feel. You understand how they reason and you could even preempt their next move or their next question.

If you've found a passion to guide people away from falling into Atheism, or you have a zeal to bring Atheists out of their demonic captivity, that's it. Your calling.

You've been to the school, and some day, God could use you mightily along these lines.

It is my earnest prayer for you that the mercy of God be renewed upon your life. It is new every morning. May you encounter that mercy that rejoices against judgement in Jesus mighty name.

Back when I was still a Christian I had an uncle who used to talk like you are here. He evetually became a pastor after graduating from university and a brief career in the public sector. He used to regal me with these kinds of stories back in the day. He was so into it that he refused to say fork in the normal manner, he'd say ferk instead, didn't what to be contaminated he said. He got married and had a son. While the boy was still a toddler my uncle took ill and died. His demon casting skills nor any of his fellow pastors could not save him. At the time of course it didn't occur to be that all of this is not particularly useful, in fact I strongly believed at that time that the god can heal and all that jazz. Fast forward to today and reading your stories just makes me remember and I ask myself what is the point of all these when it cannot alter the real world or affect things when the chips are down. You claim you have all these power yet your fellow Christians suffer and die just like any other person, of what use is this your power? WHat are you seeing that is so special that doesn't still make any of you rise above the vagaries of life?

Please there's something I want you to shed more light on.

I've met Atheists who speak very arrogantly and go to extreme lengths to speak blasphemously against God. All Atheists do it but there are some who go to the extreme. Here on Nairaland, a guy called maynman fits this descriprion. Can you please tell me what makes them do so? Is it because they resent God that much? Is it a demon operating through them? Is it because they've totally convinced themselves that there's no God?
It baffles me so much. Whatt exactly went wrong in their lives? Thanks for the answers in advance.

Proverbs4:23 says guard your heart with all diligence for out of it comes the issues of life.

The scripture says that faith comes by hearing. Faith is a spirit, no wonder Ezekiel 2:2 says a spirit entered into when he spoke to me. If faith is a spirit, so is doubts and hate a feature that all atheist display.

I was a born again Christian, had so much faith and grew in the word until I started reading athiest comments online. I didn't take it seriously initially, but as i kept consuming atheistic ideas my heart started to change.

If someone had told me that
God doesn't exist, I would have laughed it off. They told me how God killed in the old testament, how the bible is riddled with errors, how God is wicked to create hell etc this are just few of the ideas I consumed before my heart started changing. All of this lies looked real to my teenage self back then, I never knew it was a trap to turn me away from and against God. What Satan said to Eve looked so real and true, but it was a trap.

Little by little I grew to resent pastors, then church and finally God. I had this force my heart that hated, doubted and resisted God even though I knew somehow that I was wrong and God was real.

Once the demon the of athiesm gets a ahold of a persons heart it can be difficult to change, even if a miracle happens before their eye or God appears to them, they won't still believe.

When I started resisting God, no matter the preaching, testimonies and miracles I saw , I was so hardened and unwilling to listen or believe.

Until recently I couldnt explain how I came from loving the lord with all my to hating and resenting him. I now understand I had opened myself to demonic possession by listening atheist who are inspired by demons.

Anyway, I went about blaspheming, arguing and trying to convince Christian s against God.

Until after some years, I started to ask myself questions, what if I'm on the wrong path, what if I have been deceived? etc. I read some books from Kenneth Hagin and others, listening to testimonies of athests conversion encounters. 'Todd white' is my favourite.

Then I went out to discover God again, attending church, reading bible, asking for prayers and counsel. This is when I started having demonic attacks. I have had encounters with demonic entities, almost got initiated into dark kingdoms, have been humiliated by demons etc I don't have strength to type more. I'm having attacks just for creating this thread.

I'm still on this road to God and the apex of my faith. I know that i messed up, but he's full of compassion and mercies. I pray that his mercies be extended to me.

Are you honestly convinced that this world is only physical and has no spiritual component?

I have had so many personal experience that you might not even believe if i bother to tell you. But the spiritual aspect of this world is so real.

There are bad and dark powers as well good ones in this realm and beyond, staying neutral as an atheist/agnostic doesn't exempt you from their influence.

Like i did, you need to begin to ask yourself questions and open your heart. Atheism and hardness of heart shuts you out of reality.

If you've once recieved salvation by faith, walked with God and today you've declared yourself an athiest, you're in alot of danger.

1. You're in danger of commiting the unpardonable sin aka the sin unto death aka blasphemy of the holyspirit aka final apostacy. Its not that God won't forgive. But you're resisting forgiveness by hardening ur heart.

2. You're making yourself an agent of the devil by spreading atheism and turning people away from God. God is trying to build, yet you're destroying.

3. Since you work for the devil, you would most likely end up with him in HELL.

4. Just like Esua, you're throwing away your birthright in christ which are salvation, the Holyspirit, faith, righteousness and the kingdom of Heaven etc.

5. Declaring yourself an athiest and resisting God opens you up to demonic possesion and influence. You might not even know you're possesd, but that doesn't change the fact.

I'm writting this as a repentant athiest who went about blaspheming God.

Long story bro. I think i have written a dozen of posts about it on nairaland.

I listened to the lies of athiest when i was a teenager and turned against God. I started trying to come back recently and it's been difficult.

The Holyspirit doesn't speak to me or convict me of sin anymore, i've lost my faith and desire for God. He doesn't even answer my prayers anymore except someone prays for me.

Unfortunately, people i have begged to pray for me, prefer to advice me and leave me in my emptiness.

My case was similar. So many times during programs and crusades I will come out and be laid hands on for the baptism of the holy Spirit and I will go back feeling dejected and rejected for not speaking in tongues. After one vigil I attended and Holy Ghost baptism was conducted and I didn't receive, I vowed not to come out for it again.

One early morning in my room during my personal devotion, the power came and I found myself rolling on the floor speaking in tongues uncontrollably. I was alone and not yet married then.

So I believed I have received the Spirit but the gift of tongue did not come immediately. One thing the Holy Spirit does in us is igniting the love for personal fellowship, that explains why I fell in love with personal fellowship with God that resulted to the activation of speaking in tongues of

What does it really mean to speak in tongues - languages? They have continued to dodge this question.

I think i understand your point now. Your idea of speaking in tongues is that it has to be an earthly language like chinese, Italian etc

In Acts2:6-11, during the penticost day when the disciples spoke in tongues, i believe the Holyspirit enabled them to speak in foreign languages or opened the ears of the foreigners to understand in their own languages with the aim of converting them to christ which was achieved in Act2:37.

There is a different dimension of tongues that is not connected to earthly languages and cannot be understood by men but speaks mysteries in the spirit. Only someone with the gift of interpretation of tongues can explain it. Proof:1corinth14:2,13, 22-25.

You're wrong. That scripture of 1corinthian13:8-10 doesn't say the gifts of the spirit HAS ended. Instead It says that they WILL end/cease.
The holy spirit still distributes gifts to the church today.

The writter was trying to point out that love was more important than spiritual gifts.

In 2011/2012 after i had given my life to christ. A young man in my church asked me if i had recieved the infilling of the holyspirit, i said no. He promised to pray for me.

A certain day, i think on a saturday, after church service, he laid hands on me in the name of Jesus and prayed in tongues.

The next thing that happened is that i got up from the hard floor of the church. I didn't feel any pain nor did i remember falling. I didn't speak in tongues either. But i had a lot of faith and was happy and believed i had been filled with the holyspirit.

I understand that you are aquinted with the spirit once you're born again, but there is an infilling or baptism of the spirit different from the born again experience.(Acts8:15-17)

So, did i recieve the infilling of the spirit at that time? Is it possible to be filled/baptised with the holyspirit without recieving any of his gifts like speaking in tongues?

Actually those who are guilty of blaspheming the Holy Ghost are those who really were intimate with Him, knew Him experientially, and then turned and went to vilify Him.

In your case, you aren't guilty.

Just return to God, and He will your backsliding.

Be patient, and He will heal you
