Joshthefirst: lol
An arithmetic VALUE OR SYMBOL representing a [bbPARTICULAR[/b] quantity.
Infinity is not a real number. Smh lb.
Please just google it. Infinity does not have to be a real number to be a number. The square root of -1 is not a real number.

Joshthefirst: Here's the definition of a number from basic google:
number ˈnʌmbə/ noun 1. an arithmetical value, expressed by a word, symbol, or figure, representing a particular quantity and used in counting and making calculations. "think of a number from one to ten and multiply it by three" synonyms: numeral, integer, figure, digit; More 2. a quantity or amount. "the company is seeking to increase the number of women on its staff" synonyms: amount, quantity; More
Please read and apply it to further arguments so that I will not be wasting my time. Therefore, infinity is a number. It is 1) An arithmetic symbol representing a value (an infinite value) |

Joshthefirst: No. you are not reasoning logically. every number is defined. don't get ahead of yourself. numbers are boundless doesn't mean they are undefined. Every number is defined what is the decimal value of 22/7? what number do you get when you divide 1 by 0? You say that every number is defined and then you go on to contradict yourself by mentioning "irrational numbers" whose values can't be expressed in decimals. Joshthefirst: This is idi.otic. Infinity is not a number. Infinity is a number. The infinity symbol ∞ (sometimes called the lemniscate) is a mathematical symbol representing the concept of infinity. Joshthefirst: Pi is simply an irrational number. it cannot be expressed as a fraction of whole numbers. That does not mean it is undefined. It is defined. pi is 22/7 If it is defined, why cant it be expressed in decimals? Here is another example of an undefined number Since any number multiplied by zero is zero, the expression 0/0 also has no defined value; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinity_symbolJoshthefirst: No. It would not take longer, because the time measured is indefinite, as the distance cannot be measured. the distance is undefined, therefore the time is also undefined. this is simple logical reasoning. Why are you just funny? Is simple philosophy beyond your reasoning? Is it not longer to travel up and down as compared to travelling only up? If both up and down are infinite journeys, it means that there are two infinite journeys. Are two infinite journeys not longer than one? Common sense is not common Joshthefirst: Infinity is a vital part of our reality. Our universe is a subset of infinite parameters, literally, rationally. Something cannot be infinitely big and still bigger, that doesn't make any sense, numerically it may, but not in the sense I speak of. Yet, all the examples of infinities are abstract concepts like numbers and gods. Joshthefirst: As for the bolded, your premise is already destroyed and you're talking nonsense. Greater christian and atheist philosophers have struggled with the omnipotence paradox. A random third world doctor (you) is only deceiving himself if he thinks he can just call it "nonsense" |

LiberaDeus: Hahaha But living in Nigeria, you see lunatics on the street at least every other day. It doesn't scare you, being mad is one thing, being dangerous is another.
What's so bad about the wrath of many mad people? They would hate you, curse you and smugly tell you they are praying for you but if you ain't living in Kano or zamfara, all these would still remain social issues that don't really bring bodily harm to you.
Do you also know how many smart, well read folks would have seen things differently just because you are outspoken?
Trust me when I say that many Nigerians haven't seen an atheist before, they have an evil stereotypical view of them, a lady in my former workplace refused to believe I was a freethinker just because she had a belief that all atheists were occultic, wealthy folks who just sat at home and money followed them, her question to me was " why are you still here working, why won't you just be at home making money?" .
Imagine such dogmatic, ignorant thinking
For Nigerians, these terms mean the same thing
Freemason Freethinkers Atheist Agnostic Mystic Occult Spiritist Diviner
Many still think am just joking or just trying to get some attention, I don't blame them because their view of freethinkers doesn't fit and will never fit with what we really are. That's why I want us to be outspoken because we have the power to influence the future of this nation.
When people start seeing that we are human like them and most mportantly when they see our reasons and intellect then they would reconsider their stance, worst case scenario : they liberalize their views, best case scenario: they reconsider the whole bullshit they believe
We can't let darkness dominate just because they have more numbers. We hold the real light of mental freedom and I think its selfish for us to even go as far as pretending to be like them. You might never record any atheist convert but somewhere someone is seeing the real life of an atheist. When one is ready to start an organisation for atheists or humanists, then I will be open. The humanists and atheist organisations in the USA and UK fight for the rights of non-religious people. They even fight for satanists at times. If people have my back, then I too will have their backs. This is the only way we can grow. But after experiencing backbiters on this very forum........... |

johnydon22: infinity can be greater than infinity contrary to Joshthefirst thoughts. there is an infinite number of values in between 0 and 1 and 1 to 2 but still one is still greater than 0 and 2 greater than 1 even though in the real numerical sense all are infinite - so yes infinity can always increase.
so the omni paradox holds, because it literally contradicts itself Well said. r The problem with many relgious people is that they only see the world half-backed through their religion |
Christianity Etc › Re: That Silly Question - "Where Did God Come From" - Aseity Discussion. by JackBizzle: 8:45pm On Feb 18, 2017 |
Joshthefirst: It's logical reasoning.
Numbers are not boundless. Every number has a definition, and can be quantified. That numbers increase is nothing special. With each increase there is a limit and quantification. Infinity itself, is not a number. And can numerically never be reached. A vital point. You are not reasoning logically. You say numbers are not boundless and yet, you contradict yourself by saying that there is always an increase. There is no limit to numbers. I would argue that infinity itself is a number. There is a symbol for it To give you a practical example of inifinity being a number, just take the simple division of 22/7 or the symbol called "pi" π. That "Pi" number is infinite because, equivalently, its decimal representation never ends and never settles into a permanent repeating pattern. Joshthefirst: Here, you give me leverage for another vital point. Infinity multiplied is still infinity, from any perspective. You could say the same about Trinity. God may be revealed as multiple persons, but he remains God. Limitless
And when you think about it, limitless cannot increase, or be reduced. It simply is. Limitless can increase. You can multiply 2 infinites. For example, let us assume that the universe is infinite in all directions. If I try to travel to the top of the universe, I would not get there because it would take me an infinite time to get to the top of the universe which is infinite. If I then plan a second journey to the bottom of the universe, that would add an infinity to another infinity- it would take longer to go to the top and then backwards to the bottom. The problem with this your infinite God is that infinity does not exist in the real world. It is a contradiction. Something can be infinitely big but can still be bigger. Can God make a God more powerful than himself? The apparent contradiction is soo clear. What if God gives birth to God 2.0? A self-refuting contradiction. cc johnydon22, hahn. |
Christianity Etc › Re: That Silly Question - "Where Did God Come From" - Aseity Discussion. by JackBizzle: 4:37pm On Feb 18, 2017 |
Joshthefirst: You misunderstand. God has revealed himself as three persons. And when I say he is the sum total of all existence, I don't mean all fractions and niches of existent verities add up to him. I mean existence itself and everything in our reality is contained in him. He is boundless and everything. A being who is "everything" cannot be duplicated, as the very definition of his presence takes up limitless infinity.
As I have said, I don't mean our collective consciousness equals God. I mean God's limitlessness contains all of existence and reality. So, you just act like my comment doesn't exist? okay. |

urheme: Your suggestion Sir,
Christians don not flog, pierce or drain blood from persons for painting streets.....we look after our bodies....not a hair on our bodies should be hurt or injured.
if your idea of "pray, fast and read scripture" constitute or is synonymous to physical injuries...then you have missed the point.......
i fast i pray i read the scripture......and spiritually, mentally and physically, it sharpens me... i am a stronger person now with a very sound mind than when i was in your camp felixomor: Apt and Well Said. You missed the point entirely- the point hardmirror is making is that because something is hard, it doesnt make it right. Just because christian fasting and praying for hours is hard does not mean it is right. The hard thing is actually doing the right thing. The moral thing. I can work and live with christians, muslims, pagans, hindus, buddhists......something you supposedly righteous/moral christians cannot do...."love your neighbour" |
