CrimeOld Girls Scheming To Sack Queen’s College Principal – PTA by Jahelastic(op): 6:39am On Apr 06, 2016
Less than 48 hours to the submission of the report of a Federal Government’s panel set up to investigate an allegation of sexual assault levelled against a Biology teacher at Queen’s College, Lagos, the Parent-Teacher Association of the school has accused the old girls’ association of plotting to remove the principal, Dr. Lami Amodu, and replace her with one of them.

The PTA and the Queen’s College Old Girls’ Association have differed on the allegations. While the PTA described the allegations against the teacher, Mr. Olaseni Oshifala, as baseless, the QCOGA had in a statement argued that the allegations were not “unfounded”.

According to the PTA, a faction of the QCOGA, led by one Mrs. Laila St. Mathew-Daniels, is determined to install a deputy director from the Federal Ministry of Education, whom they said was an ‘old girl’.

While saying the news briefing was not meant to pre-empt the outcome of the Federal Government panel, the PTA added that Chinenye Okoye, the purported parent, who accused Oshifala of molesting her daughter, had yet to surface.

The PTA chair, Mrs. Beatrice Akhetuamen, in company with five other parents of the school, said this on Tuesday in Lagos.

Akhetuamen stated, “It baffles me why a section of the old girls are bent on denting the image of the college. I was in a meeting with the ‘old girls’ and they almost lynched me because I was saying the truth.

“The ‘old girls’ are about to have the principal removed. We learnt that they want to have her removed because the principal is a Muslim and a northerner. But why can’t we tolerate one another if this indeed is a unity college?

“I am restating it here that once this faceless parent comes out with her facts, we will stand behind her and fight for her. If she cannot come out, let her husband come out. If she was bold enough to go to the social media, she should be bold enough to substantiate her claims. She should come out with her daughter’s school file number and all receipts.’’

Another parent, Mr. Richard Ugwuka, added that he would not support the transfer of the teacher unless he was found guilty of the allegations.

Ugwuka added, “If he is found innocent, I would not want him transferred because QC would be losing a good hand. Biology is a subject where our children have been getting excellent grades. If he is not found guilty and is transferred, what that means is that anybody, who has an axe to grind with anybody, can just send a letter to the social media.”

“We should watch what we do. What that means is that there is now a method to deal with somebody once you do not like his or her face.

“We are getting to a point where young intelligent male teachers will be avoiding Queen’s College because they will not want to be accused falsely and have their career destroyed. There are key science areas like biology, physics and chemistry and teachers in this subject are on the decline. When you have a good one, you do not let such a teacher go because of any unproven allegation.

“We have said it again and again, if Oshifala is found guilty, let him be sacked and jailed.”

However, when our correspondent contacted St. Mathew-Daniels, she failed to respond to the claims made by the PTA.

Nairaland GeneralFuel Scarcity: Lagos Assembly Urges Buhari To End Hardship by Jahelastic(op): 6:31pm On Apr 05, 2016
The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to proffer solution to the lingering fuel scarcity and its attendant hardship on citizens. The call followed a motion raised by the Majority Leader of the House, Mr Sanai Agunbiade and seconded by Mr Segun Olulade, the Chairman, House Committee on Health, under matter of public urgent importance.

Agunbiade said a lot of workers were lamenting over gridlock caused by fuel queues. “In Lagos, every minute counts. Many workers now get queries for coming late to work. People now store petrol at homes.

“Prices of goods and commodities are high, and fares have increased. The President should address the issue of fuel scarcity and deal with everyone involved,” he said. Olulade, on his part, said:

“A lot of people are facing serious hardship; we have hospitals that cannot provide electricity in case of emergency because of scarcity. The President should address the issue quickly.”

Contributing, Mr Tunde Braimoh, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, described the situation as ‘’embarrassing’’, saying that the President has all it takes to salvage the situation.

Also, Mr Yinka Ogundimu, the Chairman, House Committee on Finance, said all agencies in Lagos were overstretched and a lot of time was wasted queuing for fuel. “We should call on the President to come up with immediate solution,” he said.

The Speaker of the House, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, said it was not necessary to start apportioning blames or identifying scapegoats, but the Federal Government should find a lasting solution to the problem.

“I saw people carrying kegs all over the city and I understand that some of them sleep at filling stations. “The roads from my house were deserted as I was coming to the office and this is a bad signal.

“Mr President should look for a solution; we should not look at the past or blame the Petroleum Minister for what he said recently since he has apologised. We must take action now.

“Whatever it is, our people should get fuel to move around for their businesses. We must avoid whatever can lead to angry mobs. It is becoming so unbearable and it must not be allowed,” he said.

The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House, Mr Ganiu Abiru, to write a letter to the President to find a lasting solution to the problem and make fuel available in Lagos State.

The House said that the President should address the people on the situation and appealed to residents to be calm until a solution was found to the problem. It also called on Buhari to direct all the necessary Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that have direct connections with the distribution of fuel to help the masses by curbing the hardship.

The lawmakers said that special attention should be given to Lagos State as the economic nerve centre of the nation as many workers now sleep at filling stations.

The House also called on Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode to direct the necessary agencies in the state to effectively control gridlock occasioned by scarcity.

It noted that the indiscriminate queuing at filling stations had affected traffic flow and many people were getting to their offices late. (NAN)

CrimeLagos Court Remands Driver, 30, For Allegedly Defiling 7-year-old Girl by Jahelastic(op): 6:15pm On Apr 05, 2016
Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye of an Ikeja High Court on Tuesday revoked the bail granted a driver, Samuel Akanni, for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl and remanded him in prison custody. “The defendant is hereby remanded in prison custody and the bail earlier given to him by the lower court is hereby revoked,” she ruled.

Earlier, the prosecution led by Mr Babajide Boye, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 14, 2013 at his residence located at No. 31, Powerline St., Oko-Oba, Agege, a Lagos suburb.

Boye said: “The defendant was a neighbour of the victim (name witheld) and her family; they all lived in one bedroom apartment popularly known as “Face-me-I-face-you’’. “The defendant’s apartment was opposite the child and her family’s apartment and he had the habit of always sending the victim on errands.

“On two occasions, he lured the victim to his apartment where he had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.” The prosecutor said Akanni was caught when the victim, after the second round of defilement, told her mother when she kept having unusual discharges from her private part.

He added that the victim and her family had to relocate from the apartment after the incident because of the trauma. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 137 prescribes life imprisonment for offenders.

NAN also reports that the victim and her father were in court as prosecution witnesses. Justice Ipaye adjourned the case to April 19 and April 20 for continuation of trial.

EducationMedical Students To Spend Seven Years, Not 11 – NUC by Jahelastic(op): 10:57am On Apr 05, 2016
The National Universities Commission has described as erroneous and misleading the news making the round that Nigerian medical students will now spend 11 years to obtain their first degree.

The NUC’s Head, Information Department, Mrs. Adebukola Olatunji, said in a statement on Monday that medical students will only spend seven years in school, rather than 11 years which was widely reported in the news.

Olatunji said newsmen misrepresented the NUC’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Julius Okojie, who was quoted to have announced the 11-year training period for medical students while giving the keynote address at the matriculation and inauguration of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, on March 12, 2016.

She said nowhere in the keynote address, entitled, “Development of Medical Education in Nigeria: Prospects and Challenges,” was 11 years mentioned or implied.

According to Olatunji, what Okojie explained was that the NUC’s basic minimum academic standard for Medicine and Surgery had been reviewed such that anyone wishing to study Medicine and Surgery and Dentistry will first have to study any of the four-year basic medical science courses, such as Anatomy, Medical Biochemistry and Physiology, before proceeding to the clinical training that would run for three years.

She said, “Although, the so-called ‘11-year Medical Programme’ stories have been credited to the Commission’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Julius Okojie’s keynote address, titled, ‘Development of Medical Education in Nigeria: Prospects and Challenges’, which was delivered at the Matriculation and Inauguration of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, on Saturday, March 12, 2016, nowhere in that lecture was 11 years mentioned or implied.

“Prof. Okojie, who was represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary l, Prof. Chiedu Mafiana, had explained that the new curriculum provides for a seamless seven-year programme.

“With the new curriculum, a medical student would be expected to graduate in Basic Medical Sciences, with options in Anatomy, Medical Biochemistry and Physiology in the first four years, before proceeding for the clinical training that would run for three years.”

Nairaland GeneralGovt Condemns Discrimination Against The Physically Challenged by Jahelastic(op): 10:50am On Apr 05, 2016
The Lagos State Government says it does not condone discrimination against People Living with Disabilities (PLDs) in work places and the society.

The General Manager, Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs, LASODA, Dr Babatunde Awelenje, said this on Monday during the opening of training on sign language for civil servants in Ikeja.

Awelenje, who decried discrimination against PLDs, said the office had in the past intervened in such cases and ensured that culprits were brought to book.

He urged PLDs to report cases of discrimination to LASODA, adding that prompt action would be taken immediately to remedy the situation, as the state government was determined to protect the rights of the physically challenged.

“The office will also be exploring advocacy to enlighten the public not to discriminate against PLDs,” the LASODA boss added.

He said 150 civil servants were being trained on sign language so they would be able to interact with people who had hearing impairment whenever they came for services in government establishments.

He said, “The essence of this training is to integrate people with hearing challenges into government activities through sign language training. We have different forms of disabilities such as blindness, deafness and intellectual disability.

“People with hearing disability have only one challenge, which is verbal communication. That is why LASODA is teaching workers sign language so that they will be able to communicate with people with hearing impairment.”

Awelenje said the office would take the sign language training to the corporate world by involving non-governmental organisations to also train as many people as they could for the benefit of people with hearing impairment.

PoliticsWe Are Suffering, Buhari Must Stop Needless Foreign Trips, US Trip Is “joke Of T by Jahelastic(op): 10:32am On Apr 02, 2016
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has called on well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on President Mohammadu Buhari to stop his needless foreign trips, describing the president’s trip to the United States of America on Wednesday for the 4th Nuclear Security Summit while Nigerians are suffering at home as “joke of the year.”

The governor said “it remains a mystery what President Buhari that met power generation at 6,000MW and could not manage it such that power generation crumbled to Zero Megawatt yesterday, will contribute to the Nuclear Energy Summit in America.”

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said “it is shameful that while President Buhari was far away in the United States of America, attending a summit that does not have any bearing on Nigeria and its people, an unprecedented happened – power generation stopped completely for over three hours!”

He said the sufferings of Nigerians deserved the attention of the president instead of junketing around the world, wasting the country’s scarce foreign exchange.

The governor alleged that over $50 million must have been spent on the president’s frequent foreign trips, adding that Nigerians should ask President Buhari whether his trip to the United States of America to attend Nuclear Energy Summit will bring the lingering fuel scarcity being experienced in the country to an end.

“Nigerians are suffering. Petrol has become so scarce that our people now sleep in petrol stations to buy fuel at N200 per litre while the president who should alleviate their sufferings is in the USA, attending a summit that he won’t even understand whatever that is discussed there.

“This is not acceptable. Mr President should stay at home and see to it that at least, power generation returns to 6,000MW that he met it if he cannot add to it. “Mr President should stay at home and bring this fuel scarcity that has paralysed almost all activities in the country to an end.

“Nigerians are saying their president should stay at home and bring to an end the killings, raping of women and destruction of farmlands by Fulani herdsmen.

“Most importantly, the President should listen more to those of us who criticise him instead of those hailing every of his wrong steps either because of what they intend to gain or for fear of persecution,” the governor said.

CrimePolice Detain Two For Recording Extortion by Jahelastic(op): 10:02am On Apr 02, 2016
The police in Obudu, northern part of Cross River State, have arrested two men, Stephen Apebende and his unidentified friend, for allegedly photographing police officers via their cell phones while extorting road users.

This came just as the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, had during his visit to Calabar berated some commissioners of police for being responsible for extortions from road users.

The detained men, who spent their Easter Sunday and Monday holidays at the police cell in Obudu Police Station, were arrested along the Obudu Ranch Resort Road at the police checkpoint just before the residence of the Chief of Staff to Governor Ben Ayade, Mr. Martins Orim.

Southern City News learnt on Friday that the officers were furious that Apebende and his friend had captured them while collecting bribe from road users.

The situation was further compounded after the policemen discovered that they could not gain access to the photo album of the android and i-phone that was used by the duo in capturing their images.

A family source, Ugbe Samson, said, “The two men were released on Monday after the policemen brought in a local GSM phone guru to unlock the seized phones.”

It was learnt that Apebende, who works with a non-governmental organisation with focus on HIV/AIDS, would press for legal redress over the matter.

Samson said although Apebende was advised by close family relatives not to push for any case against the police, the plea, it was gathered might not work.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. John Eluu, said he was not aware of the development.

“I have not got that report from the Obudu division. But I would want to advise those affected to come to the Police headquarters in Calabar to formally lay their complaints if anything of that nature ever happened. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Henry Fadairo, will attend to such case if they have proof.”

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, had during a stakeholders meeting with traditional rulers, Muslim and Christian community leaders and traders, said extortion from road users in any state is a reflection of the disposition of commissioner of police.

Arase, who was responding to complaints from a stakeholder on extortions on highways, said, “You can know a corrupt commissioner of police from the conduct of his men on the highway. If I am driving through some states in Nigeria, I easily perceive the personality of the commissioner through his men.”

Science/TechnologyU.S. Gun Maker Creates 'crusader' Rifle That ISIS 'can't Touch' by Jahelastic(op): 9:16am On Apr 02, 2016
A Florida gun maker has created an "ISIS-proof" assault rifle that has raised the ire of Muslim groups.

Designed so Islamic State militants "could not touch it," the AR-15, made by Spike's Tactical in Apopka, is inscribed with the biblical verse, “Blessed be the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle" (Pslams 144:1). It is also etched with a Knight's Templar Long Cross - a Christian Crusader symbol.

The rifle's safety selector has three settings: Peace, War, and God Wills it.

“Off the cuff I said I’d like to have a gun that if a Muslim terrorist picked it up a bolt of lightning would hit and knock him dead,” Ben “Mookie” Thomas, the company's spokesperson and a former Navy SEAL, told the Orlando Sentinel.

According to Thomas, he came up with the idea after finding out that Islamic State militants were using American made arms which were previously in Iraqi army hands.

Soon after its launch on Wednesday, The Council on American-Islamic Relations of Florida pointed out that out of 205 mass killings in the United States in 2015, only one involved a Muslim.

"Is it designed for Christian terrorists?" Hasan Shibly, executive director of the Council, asked rhetorically, adding that it's time gun makers stop trying to "make a buck" on gun violence.

SportsFIFA Bans Eboué For One Year by Jahelastic(op): 2:49pm On Mar 31, 2016
Ivorian international and Sunderland A.F.C player, Emmanuel Eboué, has been banned from taking part in any football-related activity for one year or until he pays the total outstanding amount owed to his former agent if this occurs before the end of the one-year ban.

The decision to ban Eboué was announced on FIFA’s website on Thursday.

According to the world football governing body, the origins of the case involve a decision passed by the single judge of the FIFA Players’ Status Committee in July 2013 regarding a contractual dispute according to which Eboué was ordered to pay the players’ agent Mr Sébastien Boisseau an amount owed to him based on the representation agreement between the two parties. The decision was taken on the basis of the FIFA Players’ Agents Regulations in force at the time (2008 edition).

“On September 9, 2014, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee decided to sanction Mr Eboué with a fine of CHF 30,000 ($31,271) for failing to comply with the decision of the single judge of the Players’ Status Committee on the basis of art. 64 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. The player was also granted a final period of grace of 120 days to settle his debt, upon failure of which the creditor – Mr Boisseau – would be entitled to request that a one-year ban on taking part in any football-related activity be imposed on Mr Eboué,” the statement on Fifa’s website revealed.

“Eboué appealed to CAS against the FIFA Disciplinary Committee’s decision, but the appeal was dismissed and the decision of the Disciplinary Committee confirmed in full.”

Following the expiry of the final deadline granted, Boisseau requested that the one-year ban be imposed on Mr Eboué in accordance with the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.

“The relevant parties, including The Football Association which has been requested to implement said ban, have been informed accordingly,” the statement revealed.

PoliticsChibok Girls Not Missing – Fayose by Jahelastic(op): 2:34pm On Mar 31, 2016
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Wednesday declared that no pupil was abducted by Boko Haram from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.

Over 200 pupils of the school were reportedly abducted in 2014 by the terror group.

The governor said the report was politically motivated to influence public opinion against the Goodluck Jonathan  administration ahead of the 2015 general elections.

Fayose spoke while declaring open a two-day workshop on “Political Aspirants Capacity Enhancement” organised by Women Arise for Change Initiative. It was organised for  women from Ekiti, Osun and Ondo states.

He  said, “Today, many opposition leaders are underground. I don’t think any of these girls is missing; it is a political strategy. Who is fooling who? If you wanted to use it to remove some people, you have succeeded already.

“I don’t know if there are missing girls but no indication has shown that. It is a political strategy,  because I don’t think any girl is missing. If they are missing, let them find them.”

The governor  also took a swipe at#BringBackOurGirls campaigners, saying some of them are using it to look for appointments.

He lamented that  human rights groups had decided  to keep  quite since  President Muhammadu Buhari came on  board.

Fayose said, “I’m concerned about the activities of human rights groups. Today the government of the day is obeying court order of their choice, while human rights are not respected.

“We must talk about government providing cover for criminals. You are now using that person to harass innocent person. You will never have peace when you hide justice.”

He added, “Police came into town yesterday (Tuesday)  to  arrest political opponents. If you like, demonise me, I will demonise you. I don’t need the police and the SSS (Department of State Services) to walk in my state. It is when you are not popular that you walk with police.

“Any government that rises against me, that government will come down. I’m Peter the rock. By engaging me, you make me more popular and relevant and then court sympathy. I’m one person that is going places. That is why all these challenges are against me.”

The governor urged women seeking elective offices to be loyal to their husbands.

The President of the initiative, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, said the objective of the workshop was to enhance women political participation and their inclusion in decision making process by promoting female political aspirants and appointees. She said it was to encourage a more massive political mobilisation of women.

She lamented that Nigerian women had not fully involved themselves in politics,  despite the constitutional provisions giving  them rights to political participation.

Nairaland GeneralLagos To Prosecute Tax Defaulters From April 1 by Jahelastic(op): 7:44am On Mar 31, 2016
The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service says it will commence the prosecution of tax evaders and offenders in the state from April 1, 2016.

The LIRS in a statement by its Executive Chairman, Mr. Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, on Wednesday said the move became necessary because a large number of Lagosians had not paid their taxes although the law stated that eligible tax payers must pay within 90 days of the New Year.

The statement read in part, “Under the Personal Income Tax Act, a taxable person is statutorily required to file a return of income for the preceding year within 90 days from the commencement of every year of assessment (March 31st being the deadline), while every employer of labour is required to file all emoluments paid to its employees for the preceding year, not later than 31st of January each year.

“Therefore, any taxable person or corporate organisation, who fails to file their tax returns with LIRS by the stipulated date, is in breach of the provisions of the law, which is a criminal offence that is punishable under the tax laws.”

Ogunsanwo said the service had put all the necessary machineries in place to ensure the enforcement of the tax laws with effect from April 1, 2016, adding that there would be no hiding place for offenders.

He said LIRS had made effort through advocacy and enlightenment programmes to encourage residents of the state to pay their taxes, adding that some taxpayers complied willingly.

“But it is disheartening to note that a large fraction of eligible taxpayers are still not complying, thereby failing to contribute to the common purse for the good of all.

“In the wake of little or no proceeds from the federation account, the focus of the present administration in renewing infrastructure and general development of the state cannot be achieved by the attitude of those who deliberately refuse to discharge their civic responsibility to the state.

“We are now going to the next phase, which is enforcement and prosecution, and we will take full advantage of the provisions of the tax laws to apprehend and prosecute tax defaulters,” Ogunsanwo said.

He urged all taxable residents in Lagos State to quickly pay their taxes, adding that the government would, through the Rapid Tax Prosecution Unit, commence prosecution of tax defaulters in Lagos State without further notice.

Nairaland GeneralWe Are Working Hard To Relieve Your Pains – FG Assures Nigerians by Jahelastic(op): 7:17am On Mar 31, 2016
The Federal Government on Wednesday said it was aware of the difficulties that Nigerians were currently facing over the lingering fuel scarcity and poor power supply, assuring that it was working round the clock to provide relief for the citizenry.

”As a government that was propelled into office by the power of the people, we cannot but feel the pains of our compatriots, and we deeply empathise with them,” the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said in a statement issued in Abuja by his Special Adviser, Segun Adeyemi.

”Our message to our compatriots is that this administration, under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, is working round the clock to ease the pains of Nigerians, and that very soon, the efforts of the government will begin to yield fruits for the benefit of Nigerians,” he said during a visit to the corporate headquarters of Daily Trust newspaper, as part of his tour of media establishments in the country.

Mohammed said the Government was aware that Nigerians has started questioning the genuiness of its Change Agenda, adding: ”We understand the skepticism of Nigerians in questioning whether this indeed is the change they voted for. I can tell Nigerians that our Change Agenda is real, and that indeed Nigerians will get the change they voted for.”

On the fuel situation, the Minister said immediate measures were being taken to end the scarcity, while medium and long term solutions were being worked out to prevent a recurrence.

”Petroleum supply and distribution have been ramped up across the country by the NNPC to ensure product availability in the country, but repeated trips to filling stations and the backlog are making it impossible to immediate feel the impact.

”Monitoring has also been intensified to ensure full compliance with approved prices. Violations of approved prices and hoarding of petroleum products attract severe penalties, including ‎giving out of petroleum products free to the public, sealing off of fuel stations found to be hoarding petroleum products, payment of fine as well as withdrawal of Marketer’s License,” he said.

Mohammed said that in the medium term, the supply constraints due to foreign exchange challenges were being resolved through collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria on innovative ways of closing the gaps in accessing foreign exchange.

He also announced the willingness of the International Upstream Oil Companies to support major oil marketing companies with some of the required foreign exchange, thus complementing the efforts of the NNPC which has been solely importing the refined products, in addition to the fact that the Corporation is pursuing an improved model for ‘crude oil for refined product’ exchange to eliminate inefficiencies.

”The ultimate is to ensure self sufficiency in refined products supply by ramping up our local Refining capacity. All local Refineries will be made to run at a minimum 70% capacity utilization in the weeks ahead. This is in addition to the initiative of increasing the combined capacity of the domestic refineries through co-locating smaller but cost efficient modular refineries within the existing refineries premises,” the Minister said.

On the power situation, which he blamed largely on lack of gas supply to the power generating stations, he said the NNPC was seeking alternative sources of gas supply after the attack on the Forcados Export Pipeline forced the cut off of gas supplies to the stations.

Mohammed said even the gas supply that was cut off following the attacks on the Forcados Pipeline would soon be restored as Shell, the operators of the pipeline, had awarded the contract for its repair.

In addition, he said, work ws nearing completion on the transmission projects in five states in the South-East and South-South that will ensure that the power stations in those regions were able to work at full capacity, thus adding another 800MW to the national grid.

”While we give no excuses for the challenges currently being faced by Nigerians, because they voted for us specifically to address those challenges, we appeal to them to bear with us as we strive to provide the much-needed relief in the days ahead,” the Minister said.

Nairaland GeneralFayose, Aluko Trade Words Over Brewing Ekiti Crisis by Jahelastic(op): 6:48am On Mar 31, 2016
Embattled erstwhile Secretary of the Ekiti State Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Tope Aluko may have drawn Governor Ayodele Fayose into a fresh verbal battle as he described him as a man running from his shadows, saying his day of reckoning is at hand.

He also said that there was nothing new in the arrest and detention of Ekiti lawmaker and some officials of the state, saying he suffered the same fate in the hands of the security agencies, according to him, “I have stayed 12 days with SSS, five days with police and five days with the the EFCC.”

Speaking for the governor however, is his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka who described Aluko as the present-day Judas of Ekiti State, saying; “The man is a grade A scammer who is living large on the millions he is making from his present anti-Fayose agenda.”

Speaking with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, Aluko said his confession about the alleged electoral maleficence in the June 21 2014, governorship election in Ekiti State has fetched him nothing but trouble, as even the All Progressives Congress,

APC, members have been writing petitions against him. According to the former PDP scribe, “the APC has been writing petition against me on what I said on Channels Television, and it came as a rude shock to me when the government (Ekiti state government) said that I’m Judas, they are the Judas anyway, because they betrayed me.

I am still a member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party. It is APC that is petitioning me over this issue I trashed out on channels television recently. “They petitioned me, and I have stayed 12 days with SSS, five days with police and five days with the the EFCC . So I’m actually on bail from these security operatives.”

Aluko insisted that he remained a member of the PDP and secretary of the party in Ekiti. “The security operatives invited me and I went, they did not maltreat me and I don’t know if they would still charge me to court, but I’m actually on bail from the security agencies and my mind is free.

I don’t know if they will still invite me tomorrow. I have said all I have to say on Channels Television and my mind is free. I’m not afraid if any agency invites me I will go.” Olayinka, who insisted that Aluko has turned himself into tools in the hands of the All Progressives Congress (APC), added that;

“Aluko and his likes can continue to run from pillar to post, all their efforts will come to nought and like the Biblical Judas, we will all live to see how those  treating him like their man Friday now will dump him.”

The governor’s spokesperson said it was laughable that someone who was duly expelled from the PDP was still claiming to be member of the party, saying; “Can Aluko be member of PDP by force even when PDP has said he is not wanted?” He said;

“In saner climes, Aluko, who by himself confessed to have committed crime should be in jail by now. “Finally, Aluko can continue with his journey of political perfidy.

He can keep running while enjoying the proceeds of his political 419. But like the Biblical Judas, he can only run, he will be caught by his deeds one day.” Olayinka said.

Interim coach of the Super Eagles, Samson Siasia, has expressed his disappointment, after their 1-0 defeat to Egypt on Tuesday, which ensures they will not qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

It will be the second consecutive edition that Nigeria will be absent, after they failed to reach the 2015 tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

“We are very disappointed. We couldn’t do it,” Siasia said on arrival in Abuja from Alexandria Wednesday morning.

“We inherited a broken team, but we worked so hard, but it was not to be.

“I’m proud of the boys. We were not lucky right from the first game in Kaduna. And God knows why.

“We thank Nigerians for their support”, he said.

Siasia took over the team a month ago, after Sunday Oliseh’s shocking resignation.

Crime‘I Recognised Just The Tip Of His Nose’: Mother Of Murdered Student by Jahelastic(op): 6:29pm On Mar 29, 2016
The mother of murdered Italian student Giulio Regeni, tortured to death in Egypt in January, told Italy’s parliament Tuesday she had only recognised ‘the tip of her son’s nose when identifying his body. Amid increasing anger over Cairo’s handling of the killing of the 28-year-old Cambridge University graduate student, Egyptian detectives are now expected to hand over key evidence to their Italian counterparts on April 5.

If Cairo should fail to follow through, “I would urge our foreign ministry to urgently consider recalling our ambassador to Egypt for consultation,” said Luigi Manconi, president of the human rights commission in the Senate.

Italy’s Interior Minister Angelino Alfano on Sunday said Egypt agreed to extend the investigation after pressure from Rome, which had objected last week to Cairo insisting it had identified a criminal gang linked to Regeni’s murder, after killing four gang members and finding the student’s passport in one of the their apartments.

Egyptian police said they believed Regeni had fallen victim to the gang, which had hoped to force him to empty his bank-account. Italian media and Western diplomatic sources in Cairo have voiced suspicions that Egyptian security services were behind the murder of Regeni, whose mutilated body was discovered nine days after he disappeared on January 25.

“I won’t tell you what they had done to him,” said Regeni’s mother Paola. “I recognised him just by the tip of his nose. The rest of him was no longer Giulio”. She said she had taken a photograph of his battered body and was prepared to publish it if Cairo continued to refuse to share the findings of its probe with the Italian police.

“What torments me is the thought that, before the first blow even fell, he knew that a door had closed forever. He had all the intelligence and culture to know what was about to happen to him,” his mother said. – ‘All the world’s ills’ – “On Giulio’s face I saw all the ills of the world. We have not faced such torture since the anti-Fascist era,” she added.

Regeni had been researching labour movements in Egypt, a sensitive topic, and had written articles critical of the government under a pen name. Prosecutors in Cairo on Saturday ordered the detention of four people over Regeni’s murder, all of them closely related to the leader of the gang who was killed in the shootout with police.

Italy has so far rejected each of the vastly contradictory accounts Egypt has put forward, including allegations early on that the student had been working as a spy — an accusation his mother furiously denied.

The family’s lawyer, Alessandra Ballerini, said the investigators from Cairo “must bring us everything that’s missing, including the phone records and data collected from the cell sites in the area and the security video footage from near the metro where he disappeared, and the area in which his body was found.”

“We don’t even know what Giulio was wearing when his body was discovered,” she said, adding that the family wanted more information as well on the gang which had his passport, and how they could have acquired it.

Manconi said that if the data was not handed over, Italy’s foreign ministry “should declare Egypt an unsafe country, which would without a doubt have a not insignificant effect on the numbers of tourists” there.

CrimeProprietor Bags 10- Year Jail Term For Raping 10- Year-old Girl by Jahelastic(op): 6:12pm On Mar 29, 2016
An Ado-Ekiti High Court on Tuesday sentenced a school proprietor, Ibitoye Babatunde to 10 years imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old girl.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the convict is the proprietor of God is Great Nursery and Primary school, Ado-Ekiti. In his judgment, Justice Mosun Abodunde said that the prosecution had established case of rape beyond reasonable doubt.

She described the convict as a pathological liar, randy, shameless adult who is a danger to girl-child around him, including his own female children. “The court must rise up to give the needed defence to the voiceless children,” she added. Abodunde said that the court cannot watch sexual violence against any one if proved, to go unpunished.

“Teachers, proprietors, parents are meant to be destiny moulders and not destiny destroyers or wasters,” she said. The judge also said that the menace of rape, defilement and sexual assault is on alarming increase in the society.

The court found the accused guilty and convicted as charged in accordance with provisions of SS 2(2) Child’s Rights Laws, 2006,Ekiti State, Nigeria. The judge sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment without an option of fine.

The State Counsel, Miss Oluseyi Ojo, had told the court that the accused had been assaulting the victim, until he raped her on June 10 in the school premises. She called four witnesses to prove her case, among them the victim, her step mother and a medical doctor.

The state counsel said that the convict committed an offence which was contrary to Section 31(2) of the Child Rights Laws of Ekiti State. Also, counsel to the accused, Mr Emmanuel Adedeji called three witnesses to prove his client’s innocence.
