tpia@:
i think fulani culture allows for adoption into the tribe, just like ijaw culture also.

you do some ceremonies and become a bonafide member.

i saw something to that effect somewhere.
I did not do any seremonies, but yes, they treat me like I am a fulani. My husband fight the family for them to give me the same party an celebration as if he married a real fulani-woman, and they did that for me.

It seems like they do it because I show much respect for the tribe, and their culture and ways. I love the clothes, the language, the music, the tattooes, the jewelry..and that has uch to do with them taking me in. If I was just another fat tourist-toubab who wanted to live in the hotels and only see Senegambia and did not care less for his culture, they would not have treated me the way they do.

I find it strange that so many african people in here dont even recognize the fact that tattooing has been part of the african culture for many, many years.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tattoo
Little bit about some of the history about tattooes.

In Scandinavia and Eu, tattooes are more and more common. Some do it for fashion, some for statement, some for the love of art.
My husband loves my tattooes. Maybe because he is a fulani, grew up half-nomadic, and all the old women he knows, have face and chest heavily tattooed?
He thinks it is beautiful, and a part of me, but at the same time, he dont want me to get TOO many. But; too many for him, and too many for me, is not the samewink

Yes, they look down at people here with tattoos as well, and it is not for everybody. Yes, I tend do cover them slightly before a job interview or request to rent a house ( but I have never gotten a no on either.. ), because I know people might judge.

I love my tattooing, and there will be more. The only thing I regret it not getting more big pieces done, instead of ceveral small ones. But that will be fixed in some years.

If you do decide to get a tattoo, please:
- Dont take something for fashion, or because everyone else does it
- Dont go to the cheapest one, unless he also have a good rep
- Do your researc, and never get a tattoo from an artist who do not use a brand new needle
- Take something important for you.
- Think about your future

Any questions about tats? Feel free to ask..smiley

Mcleo007: Btw, where can I get tatoo done in Lagos at a decent price. I want body write ups…
Never go for only good price, always look at the reputation of the tattoo-artist. You risk getting infections, that the colour fade fast, not enough filling, bad lining, etc...

stagger: Has anyone bothered to study the health implications?

Hepatitis C is very readily spread by dirty tattoo needles, and from what I see concerning sterilization of even clippers in saloons, this could be a huge problem.
And that is why you should always go to a tattoo-place that have everything in order, and ALWAYS use a new needle.
FashionRe: How Long Do You Think This Tats Can Take To Be Completed by JallowBah(f): 6:43pm On Jul 25, 2012
A full back-tattoo will take about 18-30 hours to complete, depending on the artist and how fast he/she is, and depending on how much pain the body can takewink

My people, the norwegian, as mostly known for oil, and tamdadaaam; inventing the cheese-cutter grin

We had the Vikings, we are the only EU-country who is not a member of EU. We are the most expensive country in the world, and the goverment is one of the richest. ( ..go figure. )
We are not very religious all over ( the state just got divided from the religion ), and we have many immigrants.
Beautiful nature and fjords, and the Nobel Prize gets given out here.

Norwegian people, specially down south in the "bigger citys", may seem cold and not interested in other people.
We have different dialects and cultures spread out the country, and we have native people called samis.

Meh, thats pretty much it.

My point is black women can do any style but if another woman from a race does it, it's not the same.

It's something people will question.

I know in many cultures they do it for religious purposes but dreads has become blackified lol tongue
What am I trying to prove?

And yes, it has..mostly because of the rastafarian religion. I always get questions about that, and if I dont smoke weed.. ( Nope, I dont. )
RomanceRe: Religious Difference.help!!! by JallowBah(f): 9:38pm On Jul 24, 2012
Her mother is scared that you will get her converted, wich I can understand, when they consider them self religious.

I grew up in a christian home, liberal christians, I would say. My husbad grew up with a strict muslim father, who did not even allow singing inside the house, that was haram.

Still, we match good. Why? We respect each others beliefs. I am not a very religious person, but I do believe there is a greater power out there, and I do believe the universe calls when asked for. He is a muslim man, but a moderate/liberal one. I know it would make his world if I converted, but I do not think that will happen. ( Never say never. )

If you both respect each other vision on religion, and you agree on how to raise your kids and deal with problems in the marriage, that is the important thing. If both of you will walk around scared that the spouse will "burn in fires of forever", it will not work.

You need to sit down with her mother, and explain how you see this. How you look at their faith, how you respect it, and how you see your marriage, and raising your kids. Will you teach them the bible, the quran, or both? Go to the church, mosquq, or both? Will you marry with an imam, a priest, or at a gouverment-office?

I do hope you both have really discussed these things already, and that you already have answers for all of this. If not, its time to sit down and really have a talk together.
FashionRe: Men What Do You Think Of Weaves? by JallowBah(f): 9:22pm On Jul 24, 2012
kandiikane: All these men here complaining because the weave is chopping their money.

Ha! tongue

Anyway, women don't weave for men. They do it for themselves. You have to understand black hair is not something you can just leave like that as a woman. Women always want to look good for as the bible even said that the hair is where the beauty lies. Even if the face is a mess as long as the hair is done, attention can be drawn from the face to the hair.

Wearing weave doesn't mean she wants to be white or asian, we are lucky as black people we can wear any hairstyle and it will make no difference to us as blacks. When white people do single plaits or dread, it looks odd on them.

I personally wear weaves and wigs to change hairstyles from time to time, look different. I had my hair cut and I still go out with it.
I don't wear my wigs at my partner's house. I don't see the point of it.

I don't do things to impress a guy.

@pleep but she still has her hair permed so she ain't no different.
Pffft, I look damn good with my dreadlocks. That hair is not only for african people, even Indian people had dreadlocks for many, many centuries.
But braids..nah, some white girls pull it off, other white girls look like shit. It depends on the shape of your head, and your style all togethersmiley

And I always wanted a afro! But I aint got no curlswink I have seen natural afros on white people too, but ainly red-heads. They tend to get mmore curls than blondes/brunettes.

I love braides, and started fixing my girl hair up much. Beads in all kind of colours, I use patterns, I try to make it as special as possible. I love the way african people wear the weaves, its not only a damn wig. They sow, they braid it in, they fix it neatly..it took me many, many years to see if a womans hair was real or not, and still I have problem at some timessmiley

Wear your hair proudly, no matter if its weaves or not!

Oluesther: Why should you beat up a woman just because she cheated on you? Don't men cheat? Will you also appreciate it if you were beaten because you cheated?

Under no condition should a man beat up a woman. It is morally wrong.
I already answer the same question.

Yes, I would beat up my husband if he cheated. And yes, he is welcome to do the same to me.
Other than that?No.
RomanceRe: My Friend Has Been Assaulted By Her Boyfriend by JallowBah(f): 7:54pm On Jul 23, 2012
GboyegaD: So you support a man beating a woman? Then the day he wakes up to beat you because he is suspecting you of cheating or he dreamt you cheated on him in his dream, please do not blame him. BTW, there is no reason whatsoever why a man should beat a woman.
Pfft. If I am stu-pid enough to cheat on my husband, I hope he beats me.
And I should not have to explain that this is if the cheater tell it him/herself, og if they get caught red-handed. NO "I think you cheating, I`ma kill you!"

And if my husband is stu-pid enough to cheat on me, yes, I will beat him.
