Make I gist una small story. When I was doing my NYSC, if you see wetin some married women dey do for camp, you go shock. I am not an Ijaw person, neither am I from Rivers state. My interest in this issue arose from Wike’s statement on the Ijaws being the minority tribe in Rivers state.

Aside from history, you gave the political dimension from the days of Medford Okilo.

Every state, just like the country itself, has this political arrangement where political leaders are chosen from different zones, to foster growth and unity. That’s why today BAT is the President, when power was ceded to the south.

I see it that Odili distorted the political arrangement in Rivers state, as it was no longer the turn of the Ikwerres after his tenure. The Ikwerres took 16 years, affecting the balance of power. Magnus Abe had been trying his best for the governorship to be rotated to the Ogoni people, who by the way also have four local governments like the Ikwerres.

Wike made a wise decision by slowing power to get to the Ijaws. The issue became his disagreement with Fubara. Making such inflammatory statement against the Ijaws was very unnecessary and absolutely uncalled for. If he did not hand over to an Ijaw person, someday it would get to the Ijaws and the Ogonis.

So what then is your summation, are Ijaws minority or not?

@ TechnicallyRich and ElevationD, Ijaws "occupying" 12 LGAs out of 23LGAs in Rivers state doesn't make them the largest ethnic group. If you are the largest anywhere, your voting figures will prove it, census figures will also prove it..

It is important to note that prior to and after the creation of Bayelsa state out of old Rivers state, the Andonnis, the Opobos, Kalabari, Okrika, Engenni, Abua and Bonny people never considered themselves Ijaws, but as separate and distinct ethnicity from Ijaws. And in the spirit of deleanation of LGAs according to ethnicity, each of them were given LGAs to reflect their uniqueness.

When the militancy began in 2004 thereabouts, the Ijaw drive started. Everyone living by the river was called Ijaw and was coerced and/or cajoled into the Ijaw Nation.

Have you seen the swamp terrain Ijaw people call their homes? It is not fit for animal existence, let alone humans. Use Google map and zoom into those LGQs and see for yourselves. A people cut off from Civilisation with no accessible roads, healthcare, police stations etc.

If you think it's by number of LGA, well, Lagos has 20LGAs and Akwa Ibok has 33LGAs. Who has more population?

1,147 for Western Region (Ondo, Edo,Delta Ijaws)
869 villages, towns and settlements of Central Region
(Bayelsa and Ahoada West)

832 villages, towns and settlements of Eastern Region (Rivers and Akwa-Ibom Ijaws).

That make up the 2,848 village, towns and settlements.
