President Muhammadu Buhari has eased the lockdown in Lagos and Ogun States as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

The start date for the ease is May 4.

This was contained in his national broadcast Monday night.

Buhari, in his explanation, said recommendations have been carefully studied.

The president said he also took into consideration the position of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) on ease of the lockdown.

Nigerian’s Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, has said not less then 40 health workers in the country have tested positive for coronavirus.

Ehanire, who stated this during the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, urged all health workers to remain vigilant.

Also, the Chairman of the Lagos State branch of the Medical Guild, Dr Oluwajimi Sodipo, said three members of the association at the Alimosho General Hospital and the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, had tested positive for COVID-19.

Sodipo, in an interview said the three doctors had been admitted to different isolation facilities in Lagos for treatment.

He said the medical conditions of the three doctors, who had been exposed to COVID-19 cases, were stable.



Sodipo said this as the Nigerian Medical Association stated that its members had been complaining about a shortage of personal protective equipment in hospitals.

As the Federal Government stepped up efforts to curb COVID-19 in Kano, the state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Tuesday called for more testing centres in the state.

The governor, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, by Abba Anwar, made the call when the NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, visited him at the Government House in Kano.



Kano State recorded its first COVID-19 case on April 11 when a retired ambassador, who had gone on a trip to the United Kingdom, was diagnosed with the virus.

Suspected armed Fulani herdsmen killed three persons in Ancha community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, seven other persons have again been hacked and burnt to death in the neighbouring Hukke village in the same local government area.



The spokesman for Miango Youth Development Association, Mr. Lawrence Zongo, who confirmed the fresh killings on Thursday afternoon, said the assailants numbering over 200 also set ablaze over 23 houses belonging to the villagers when they attacked the village in the early hours of Thursday.

“The fresh attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday. The attackers were more than 200 persons that came this time. During the attack, they killed seven people and all of them were burnt beyond recognition as they also set their houses ablaze. In fact, we counted more than 23 houses that were set ablaze by the attackers before they fled the community.” he said.

The youth leader gave the names of those killed as Izinpa Muntu, Madah Imeh, Jummai Geye, Gado Muntu, Mary Alhassa, Gado Ngulu, and Rigwe Muntu.

The spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, ASP Ubah Gabriel Ogaba, said that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Isaac Akinmoyede, had visited the scene of the attack to sympathize with the community and encourage them to be law abiding and not take the law into their hands.

Akinmoyede also reportedly assured the people that the police will do everything possible to ensure that the assailants are brought to book.



Meanwhile, the senator representing Plateau North in the National Assembly, Istifanus Gyang, has condemned the renewed killings in his constituency.

In a statement on Thursday by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Musa Ashoms, the senator said: “At a time when the entire human race is sober and seeking God in prayers against COVID-19, killer bandits are showing no sense of fear of God nor value for human life.

Spain is planning on extending its state of emergency for another 15 days, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced, as the number of Covid-19 deaths soars in the country.

Sanchez, who addressed citizens in a televised briefing on Sunday, after meeting with health and security officials, said he expected the Parliament to approve his request to lengthen the order, which has been in place for over a week.

The country’s health ministry said on Sunday that another 394 had died in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed fatalities to 1,720.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom’s 1.5 million most vulnerable citizens are being told to stay at home for the next 12 weeks to help shield them from coronavirus.



Communities Minister, Robert Jenrick, says authorities will be writing to those who had been identified to offer them assistance to maintain social distancing during the outbreak.

“This includes providing food, so they don’t have to leave the house,” he noted.

The announcement was made at Sunday’s daily press briefing at Downing Street, alongside Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

A documentary producer has warned of a person with a suspected case of coronavirus who might have attended the just concluded AMVCA and interacted with a number of Nigerian celebrities.



Ifeoma Chukwuogo said a man, who she has refused to name, flew in from the UK and is down with coronavirus symptoms, but he has refused to report himself to the NCDC to get tested.

Recall that the AMVCA was held on Saturday the 14th of March 2020.

Ifeoma added that this man interacted with “many people” at the Award ceremony and she has “receipts”.



She later revealed that she has now made a call to the NCDC helpline.
