Israeli strikes kill 3 people in Gaza We reported earlier that two brothers were killed in an Israeli bombing in northern Gaza in another breach of the “ceasefire” agreed in October. The Palestinian Wafa news agency said an Israeli drone strike near the Abu Tamam School in Beit Lahiya killed the two siblings. In Gaza City, another Palestinian died from wounds sustained when Israeli forces bombed a vehicle on Tunnel Street. In central Gaza, Israeli army vehicles stationed east of the Maghazi refugee camp opened fire towards Salah al-Din Street, wounding four people. More from Caine The blockade is of Iranian ports, not of the Strait of Hormuz. More than 10,000 Marines, sailors and airmen are executing the US blockade. Seven ships were of interest to the US command at the start of the blockade. Any ship that tries to go through the blockade will be dealt with accordingly, including attempted boarding and warning shots. |

US military widens blockade on Iran to include contraband shipments The US has widened its shipping blockade on Iran to include cargo considered to be contraband and says any vessels suspected of trying to reach Iranian territory will be “subject to belligerent right to visit and search”, according to a US Navy advisory. “These vessels, regardless of location, are subject to visit, board, search, and seizure,” the navy said in an updated advisory after a blockade was imposed on Monday. Ceasefire with Israel ‘entry point’ to negotiations, says Lebanon’s president The ceasefire that Lebanon is “demanding with Israel” will serve as a “natural entry point for direct negotiations between the two countries,” said President Aoun during a meeting with Britain’s Minister of State for Middle East Affairs. In a statement shared on social media, Aoun said: “Lebanon is keen to halt the escalation in the south and in all Lebanese regions so that the targeting of the innocent and the secure – women, men, and children – ceases, and the destruction of homes in Lebanese villages and towns stops”. Aoun also said that negotiations between Israel and Lebanon “are to be undertaken by the Lebanese authorities alone” in order to respect the country’s sovereignty. He added that “the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territories is an essential step to consolidate the ceasefire” and that the country’s army must be redeployed “up to the international borders” to “end any manifestation of armed presence”. |
