Israeli forces conduct widespread West Bank raids, arrests

Our colleagues on the ground report that Israeli forces carried out a series of military operations across the West Bank in the last 24 hours, involving raids, arrests, and securing Israeli settler entry into sensitive sites in the occupied territory.

In the West Bank, Israeli forces executed multiple incursions into West Bank cities and villages, including:

Nablus: A large-scale raid was launched in the eastern area of Nablus to secure the entry of settler buses into Prophet Joseph’s Tomb. During the operation, clashes broke out, and Israeli forces reportedly opened fire with live ammunition. A military checkpoint was also established on the al-Badhan Road, causing significant disruptions to local traffic.

Qalqilya: Israeli troops raided the city following the reported infiltration of an Israeli special operations unit, resulting in the arrest of a young Palestinian man. The town of Ras Atia, south of Qalqilya, was stormed.
Ramallah: Israeli forces entered the village of Kafr Nima, located west of the city.

The wave of raids included many arrests, and according to our colleagues on the ground:

25 Palestinians were arrested across the West Bank, including one woman.
In the Wadi Abbas region, a young Palestinian man was injured during an assault by Israeli settlers.
Near Hebron, a Palestinian man and a young boy required medical attention after being attacked with pepper spray by settlers.

Number of US senators voting to block bulldozer sales to Israeli military hailed as ‘historic’

Mai El-Sadany, the executive director of the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy, said the US Senate vote shows the “tide is turning”.

El-Sadany said that 40 US senators voting to “block the sale of Caterpillar D-9 bulldozers to Israel, citing civilian harm [in] Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon” was an “absolutely historic vote”.

“Though the measure was defeated (as expected), the tide is turning. Just last year, this number was 27,” added El-Sadany, whose Washington, DC-based organisation had urged senators to support the vote.

She said that while only 36 senators voted “to block the sale of 1,000-pound bombs to Israel”, these were “still ground-breaking numbers and reflect a significant shift among US voters (and their representatives) on these issues”.

UNIFIL says convoy turned back by Israeli forces in southern Lebanon

The UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon says one of its routine convoys transporting military and civilian peacekeepers from Beirut was stopped by Israeli forces a few kilometres from its headquarters in Naqoura.

UN-marked vehicles were allowed to proceed while local contractors were turned back, despite their route and timing having been previously cleared with the Israeli army.

UNIFIL said this was not an isolated incident. “Similar restrictions, through physical roadblocks or the reversal of prior clearances, have affected both peacekeepers and the essential personnel who support them,” it said in a statement.

“These actions raise concerns regarding the timely delivery of critical supplies, including food, fuel, and water, to UNIFIL positions, particularly along the Blue Line.”

Israel ‘must not be allowed to sabotage’ US-Iran ceasefire: Erdogan

Israel “must not be allowed to sabotage” the ceasefire between the US and Iran, Turkiye’s President Erdogan says, adding that Netanyahu’s government “is known to be unhappy with the ceasefire process”.

Erdogan added that Turkiye is making the “necessary appeals and initiatives” to ease tensions between the US and Iran, extend the ceasefire and ensure talks continue in Pakistan. He added that:

He is hopeful that negotiations will continue despite issues between the US and Iran.
The window of opportunity created by the ceasefire must be seized.
“If there is to be peace in our region, it will be despite the Zionist [Israeli] regime. If stability is achieved, it will again be despite the Israeli government.”

Israel’s attacks on Lebanon are harming hopes for peace. Turkiye will “continue to defend the rights of our brothers whose lands are occupied in the West Bank and to be the follower of the cause of children killed in their sleep in Lebanon”.
