In recent time the Nigerian music industry has flourished, blossomed and grown in size and quality with the emergence of numerous talented artistes and record labels. It happens to be one of the fastest growing sectors in the country. New artists spring up everyday from every corner. *Don Sylvester Records (D.S.R)* is actually one of the latest and blooming record labels in Nigeria that has been on everyone's lips and it is considered one of the fastest growing label since its creation. The label is solely owned by an astute businessman and philanthropist, *Sylvester Chinedu Nweke* who is popularly known as *Don Sylvester* and hails from Nkanu West in Enugu state, Nigeria. In Nigeria today we have so many record labels that are churning out talents every day but DSR has gone a long way to distinct itself and stamped its feet as a voice to be reckoned with. The Don has proven to be a man with the eyes capable of digging out and finding rare gems and talented music artists. He didn't just jump into the music industry, but took time in analyzing the game before giving it a shot. His zeal, love and passion for music and empowering the younger generation drove him into the music industry and saw him nurturing young music acts, which has led to the signing of outrageously talented music artists into DSR. Within few years of emerging into the Nigerian music scene, the Don himself has recently bagged an Award of Recognition from City People Magazine, Actors Guild of Nigeria Award and lots more, which is an obvious signs of greater things ahead. The Label is home to industrious and multi talented recording artistes. Signing into DSR has been life changing and transforming for these young acts as they have gone ahead to drop mind blowing songs. *Adamswag* just released his first single under the label titled "Wahala". This song has been banging from all nooks and cranny. For Adamswag it is difficult to separate music from dance, as the talented singer effortlessly blends his on-stage performance with mouthwatering dance moves and waist twisting. Right from his days as an undergraduate of Nasarawa state university the handsome Idoma boy has always been head up in his game, bagging awards back to back and standing out as the university's most celebrated and talented artist. *K-West* is another signee in the label that has shown that indeed raw talent runs in his veins. The rapper has kept everyone on their toes with his smashing hit titled *"My Vibe"*. This trending song has gained massive airplay within its period of release. When you talk of rap music, this guy is giving us the true definition of rap in the Nigerian music. He kills the rap game with his blend of Yoruba vibes in his music. K-West is one rapper that is sure equal to the task of dragging the rap throne with the likes of Olamide, Phyno etc very soon. In October 2018 the record label added another feather to its feathers with the signing of *Maxi Young,* commonly referred to as the First Lady of DSR. This beautiful reggae songstress would get you spell bounded with her delivery, charisma and flows. Her dexterity with the patua is totally awesome, she speaks the patua so eloquently that its almost incomprehensible. She is arguably Nigeria's next Cynthia Morgan. As a promising and young female reggae artist, she captivates her audience and listeners with her energetic flows and not forgetting her pretty face too. She would most definitely get bigger literally and figuratively. All the act on this label are gradually becoming forces to be reckoned with in the industry. No doubt Don Sylvester Records in few years times would be among the Nigerian music company to attain a global and conquering heights. DSR is surely a record label to watch out for as it is set to sweep the music industry like a thunderstorm. To them it is not just a label it is a family!!! https://divineloveudorji..com/2018/11/don-sylvester-record-dsr-breaking.html?m=1 |
In the words of the renowned author, Ernest Agyemang Yeboah, he said; "notable people do notable things for they take notice of the unnoticed. They think beyond our thinking. They look beyond what we all look. They try, fail, and try again. They are unrelenting. They don't die with their purpose. They die on their purpose. Though they die, their purpose forever lives". Born Emeka Okonkwo in the mid 1980's, he proven to be a man who is born with a heart of gold and immense liberality embedded in him. A man of timber and caliber, the magnanimous helper and a philanthropist by nature. Born in the slummy city of Ajegunle in Lagos, Nigeria; E-Money has gone to beat several odds and achieved great heights in the Nigerian Shipping Industry, in Real Estate and has further raised the bar as the C. E. O of one of Nigeria's outstanding record label (5 Star Music). He has indeed proven that success is not dependent on your background but how determined you are in pursuing it. Being one of the most popular people on Nigeria’s social media space, people are eager to know how he made his fortune! However, according to him, "I used to be an ordinary man who was struggling to make ends meet, but one day I got a call for a $2 million contract and that is how our lives changed forever”. Today we know him as one of the wealthiest and benevolent young men in Nigeria. Your indelible footprints would never be washed away from the sands of time, not even a sand storm can erase it from the hearts of many Nigerians (especially the youths and social media enthusiast). Not forgetting the people of Uli in Anambra state who you have greatly empowered. Your outstretched arm of generosity has toured beyond the walls and confines of your locality, place of origin, place of birth or family and soared beyond those shores to include entertainers and even your followers on social media. I have countless times watched several videos where entertainers had been blessed by your out-of-bound generosity. Testimonies by your followers are visible on all your posts. You have indeed proven that goodness flows from the heart and knows no gender or tribe. If only the world had at least two of your kind then we would be rest assured that the youths from all nook and cranny of the country have role models to look up to. You have in great measures ceaselessly wiped away the tears of the needy who come to you help. You have attained heights that can hardly be conquered by your peers. You have set enviable standards for younger generations to follow, and your success story has set precedents for others to emulate, and left too many remarkable landmarks for your peers to copy. If there was a roll-call of Nigeria's most outstanding, distinguished, people-friendly, benevolent and generous entrepreneur of the year, you would undoubtedly top the chart, beating others by a very large margin. Not personally been a beneficiary of your goodwill but can't pretend that your benevolence are visible to the blind and audible to the deaf. You sure deserve to be accorded the man of the DECADE!!!! Today the Nigerian music scene is saturated by too many upcoming artistes, some of them with good and quality songs, yet they are still upcoming artistes and you are forced to wonder why they have remained upcoming artistes. It is true that success comes from God alone, but the inevitable fact remains that sometimes the reason why our success or breakthrough is not forthcoming is as a result of our faults and could be attributed to our mistakes and inefficiencies. Here are eight ( reasons why most music artistes remain upcoming:-1. Imaginary Record Labels:- This is one factor that can hamper the tendencies of an upcoming artiste to break into the larger music industry. Often times you see upcoming artistes flaunting record labels which in the real life do not exist. This goes a long way in scaring potential record label owners and managers away from you, as they feel you already belong to a record label and might be binded by a contract, whereas you don't belong anywhere, the record label you are flaunting is only a name you coined so as to make yourself look like a professional artiste. 2. Vulgar Lyrics:- Not everyone has the luck of Lil Kesh, Olamide et al. Don't build your music on vulgar lyrics. Learn to start-up with lyrics that are meaningful and people can relate with. 3. No Definite Genre of Music:- Today you are singing RnB, tomorrow its Hip Hop. Bros you are not a choir master, please pick one already. Yes we know that too many Nigerian A-List artistes don't have a particular genre, too many of them sing as the 'spirit' leads. But then as an upcoming artiste you need to define your kind of music because that is how and what people would identify you with. 4. Showing off 'Invisible' Wealth:- Don't be busy showing off wealth when in real life you can't afford to shoot a standard music video, when you even have to borrow money for your studio sessions. With your excessive display of wealth potential record labels might find you difficult to woo, as they already have the impression that you live in affluence and might be expensive for them to manage. We know showing off 'invisible' wealth is part of the 'profession' but as an upcoming artiste learn to minimise it, _at least till that time when you don hammer small_. 5. Pride:- Hmm! This is one word that is synonymous to entertainers. As an upcoming artistes learn to keep your head down. Respect whoever you come across for you don't know who would be instrumental in aiding your music career. 6. Turning Down Shows Indiscriminately:- For Christ sake! At this stage in your musical career you need to perform at all the available shows, events and parties you can. You need to project yourself as much as you can regardless of how unimportant you think the show might be, if you can perform please do. As an upcoming artiste, you need adequate exposure and the best way to get it is by performing at shows. Listen to the testimonies of music stars and you would realise that in their upcoming days they had to perform at shows, sometimes for free. 7. High Performance Fee:- Yes it is nice to attach a price tag, but make it a reasonable one. Imagine where an upcoming artiste charges you an exorbitant price just to perform at your event! Haba! ‘Wen you no be Wizkid or Davido! Learn to make your price reasonable and affordable. 8. Poor Music Promotion:- This is another factor that hampers the success of upcoming artistes. It an indisputable fact that you must use money to make more money. As an upcoming artiste you need to be ready to invest in promoting your song. Don't limit your song to your immediate environment alone. Strive to spread your song outside your immediate environment. If it means paying to promote your song, please do it, at the long run you will definitely reap the fruit of your labour. keryj:yeah kinda agree with you on this |
Few days ago social media was awash and agog with chats between Wizkid and his first babymama, Shola. The chats which dated as far back as 2015 (3year ago) saw Shola literally begging Wizkid to see his kid. Lots of people have come out to openly castigate Wizkid, labeling him a deadbeat father for not always not showing up for his son. But one thing we have all failed to really realize is that reading critically through those chats you would realise that Shola had succeeded in painting Wizkid the villain while she becomes the hero which is not totally true on many fronts. Naijatrendygists, an instagram based news medium took a second look at those chats and after sampling several opinions came up with some points that might have been overlooked by social media commentators. Here are 10 reasons by naijatrendygists that actually proves that Wizkid isn't as bad as he had been painted to be:- 1. Shola Needed Wizkid's Attention and He Seem "Done" Giving It To her!! If you read closely inbetween those chats you would realise that Shola needed Wizzy's attention, besides which woman wouldn't want her superstar babydaddy's attention and too often in those chats bringing up Tife was just the perfect excuse to get his attention. Many of those times (not all though) Tife didn't want to facetime him, Shola wanted too. While Wizzy didn't have any of his attention to spare for Shola. 2. "She is not after his money", because Wizkid never defaulted on paying his kid's bill and catering for her!! Shola began all this chronicle by tweeting that she wasnt a money hungry "hoe" and wasn't after Wizkid's money cos she had her's. Well that's not totally true cos from the chats Wizkid didn't default in paying his kids bills and catering for her either. Yes he delayed but didn't default. One thing we must realize is that often times once the love between a babydady and his babymama wanes off, her financial responsibility no longer matters to him. But notwithstanding Wizkid still pays her bills and caters for her and his kid. Cos of he sure did, then Shola wouldn't hesitated spilling it on those chats. 3. Shola Used to Curse Wizzy and Talk Crazy To Him!!! After reading several testimonies from men, I have come to realise that of the things that could make a man lose his love for a woman is when she constantly curses him or talk crazy to him. Men love their ego intact and cherish respect, so the moment you begin to curse him, that's the day his love for you begins to wane. Wizzy had expressly reminded her in their December, 2015 chat of how she used to curse him and talk crazy to him. Wizkid could be right cos afterall she didn't deny it when he said so. He further repeated it in their March 5th 2016 conversation that she was fond of cursing him and she didn't deny it then either. Looking further at their chats, Shola flared up and bombarded Wizkid with messages that had anger written all over it after messaging Wizzy without getting a response from him (guess she had learned to stop cursing him). 4. Wizzy Thinks Shola is Seeing Other Men at the Expense of Their Son!! Yo! Even Shola said so herself that Wizzy kept asking who she was seeing and who her boyfriend is (remember she didn't deny having any either). Well Wizkid thinks Shola is seeing other men, which at this point shouldn't be any of Wizkid's business though, but at the expense of his kid? Man got to be worried. Which makes it a 50/50 thingy! 5. Wizkid severally asked to see his son!! Yes I wouldn't want to enoxerate Wizkid of the days he promised to come pick his son but didn't, but from some sections of the chats it proved that Wizkid also asked to see his son. Not just wanting to see his kid, he made efforts to send some come pick him up on occasions. He also wanted to facetime with him. Sadly most of the time he asked to facetime with Tife, Shola said Tife was already asleep. Not once and not twice. From the chats he never complained nor made a fuss about it. 6. He still pays his sons school fees and gets him the necessary things he needs!! Wizkid might be a "deadbeat" father as Shola had alleged but he never stopped catering for Tife financially. I searched over an over the chats looking for where Wizkid had possibly not meet up with Tife's school fees or probably some financial needs. But none!! In fact in the chats, Shola had repeatedly thanked him for sending Tife's school fees on time. 7. She Betrayed Wizkids Trust years after saying she wouldn't!! In their chat of March 2016, Wizzy had explicitly told her "to go the blogs to get her consent letter" since she was bent on getting the consent letter from him at all cost and she went back and forth on how she didn't go to the blogs years ago and she wasn't going to the blogs.. But here we are in 2018 reading their chats!! Who betrayed who? 8. The Chats Were Doctored!! Need I also remind you that the chats were also doctored as some part of the chats were removed! Not talking about the parts were her name or address were covered oh! Am taking about been removed totally. Some of the chats had dates appearing on messages (not on top of the message but actually covering last of the message) which is unlikely of messaging apps. Wouldn't want to digress into that. 9. Shola "never" made attempts to straighten the issue out with Wizkid!! It wouldn't be out of place to say that Shola never made an attempt to straighten the issue out with Wizkid or his family (talking about him not having time for his kid) cos if she sure did, then it would had appeared some where in those chats. If we were to overlook the rants of the first babymama cos she had no one to report Wizkid to since she wasn't based in Nigeria, what about Shola who had unfiltered access to his family? 10. Reason for Releasing the Chats?? Why release a 2016 chat in 2018?? Why the long wait, well Shola has come to realize that there is no shred of love remaining between herself and Wizkid which prompted the release of the chats. Wizkid is all over Zion and his mama. Coupled with the fact that Zion's mom had requested a meet-up between Zion and Tife. All these coicidenced and became the last straw to break the Carmel's back. ............................................................. Wizkids faults 1. Don't love a kid more than the others. You fathered them all.. Love them equally 2. Don't transfer the hate of a baby mama on the baby. 3. Make out time for your kids. Just Wondering:- Who digs out chats of over 3years ago with their babydaddy or babymama, if he /she wasn't intentionally saving it up for this? Moral Lesson: You can't force a man to take up his responsibilities and coming to castigate him publicly as a means of trying to compell him into doing what's right would only make matters worse cos most men hate to be compelled. https://www.instagram.com/p/BoB-jS9Bt0H/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=zqtz99qkzgjm Follow @naijatrendygists on instagram for more Naija Entertainment gists!! |•By: Divinelove Udorji| 10th January, 2018 A popular footballer in Nasarawa State University, Keffi has done the unthinkable and the unimaginable. The talented footballer just recently turned down a football deal worth millions of pounds in a top flight European club. In a country where millions of youngsters would give everything in order to realise their dream of playing for their beloved football team but for this youngster reverse seems to be the case. Ibrahim Oyetola is a final year student of Public Adminstration Department in NSUK, who in a bid to pursue his cherished academic degree declined the offer of playing professional football because his quest for a professional football career meant that he had to drop out of school when he was already a final year student. There is however no golden rule when it comes to deciding which path is best for you, for Ibrahim his passion to acquire quality education has indeed proven to be bigger than money. His educational pursuit seem to be the beacon of light for him. Speaking extensively to this reporter, Ibrahim revealed that his immense love for education was his driving force and his optimum reason for rejecting the deal despite how mouthwatering and gigantic it was. "Several youths have abandoned their education just to chase football but at the end they didn't make a dime from footballer. Another typical example is the current President of Liberia, George Weah who was a professional and a famous footballer in the world but was denied the presidency of his country just because he lacked education. The importance of education in life cannot to be equated to the frenzy for money". He said He also noted that his love for education supersedes the craving to amasse quick wealth; "as quality education offered in NSUK is the type nobody can get elsewhere in the world", stressing that football could fade after a while but the knowledge he acquires now would forever remain with him. When asked if his family and friends were antagonist about him dumping such a mouthwatering deal for education; he said; "my family was okay with it but my friends and football mates were not, but recently they seem to have come to terms with it". "However, I plan on pursuing my football career after I graduate". He added Ibrahim has indeed become a source of motivation and succor for young footballers who are caught in the web of abandonimg their education to chase professional footballing, as many of them now view his determination, zeal and passion for education as an incredible feat and have in great way kept them motivated to also pursue their education. www.divineloveudorji..co.ke/2018/01/popular-nsuk-footballer-turns-down.html?m=1

With the recent declaration by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on the 14th of August, 2017 to embark on an indefinite strike following the failure of the Federal Government to fully implement the 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement and the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it has become imperative to state that the Nigeria education system is gradually losing her salt by the day. ASUU was established in 1978 and has since then encountered some of the worst problems in the history of trade unionism in the Nigeria. Going down memory lane, one would realise that ASUU has been in protracted strikes during the military and present civilian regimes. The negative effects of this strikes cannot be overemphasised been that education is a transformation tool in any given society and should be held in high esteem rather reverse seems to be the case in our society. Strike actions by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Nigeria have had serious effects on the academic performance of the students, below are five (5) catastrophic ways ASUU strikes affects the performance of university students; 1. BATTERS ACADEMIC CALENDAR There is no doubt that previous ASUU strikes have been known for battering and shattering academic calenders in great measures. This current indefinite strike also if extended any further would come to a large extend batter the academic calendar. This disruptions in academic programs goes a long in elongating academic calendars thereby accumulating more days, months and even years to a degree programme. The universities’ academic calendar have been greatly disrupted by ASUU strikes right from the military regime down to this civilian regime. The situation is gradually degenerating from bad to worse. This disruption of academic calendar is one of the major causes of educational backwardness in Nigeria. 2. DISCOURAGES STUDENTS FROM LEARNING: Aside battering academic calender, it also serves as non-motivational factor to students. It discourages them from learning. Incessant strikes dwindle the academic performances of students. As learning is suspended for a long period, the students reading abilities fall. Even the knowledge acquired during the learning period is even forgotten by some students. In the long run, they soon forget about academics and are no longer prepared for class activities which negatively affect their learning capability. This mostly turns some students into certificate seekers than knowledge seekers. 3. ENCOURAGES HOOLIGANISM AND PROSTITUTION: The third effect is closely connected to the second, which is engagement of the idle students in social vices including joining bad gangs and engaging in prostitution. Very many cases of pregnancy of young undergraduates during the period of strike have been reported. It is not surprising therefore that during strike actions, most students are seen involved in diverse activities such as sexual immorality, cyber scam, pool betting, unnecessary gossips, watching of films and reading comic materials for entertainment purposes rather than reading their books. 4. LOSE OF TRUST IN OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM: This concurrent strike actions has a way of making students totally lose faith in the educational system of the country. This is because a four year degree course has been unofficially increased to five years or even more. Globally, there is the usual sneer when Nigerian universities are mentioned and a quick link with unstable university calendar due to frequent strikes. This image robs graduates of our universities of international esteem even when their worth has not been proven through employment. 5. CONDENSATION OF SYLLABUS: The typical scenario is to condense or compress course topics that should have been taught for the period of the strike to about a fifth of the expected and rush students to examinations thereafter. The negative effect of these condensed course topics to the academic empowerment of students’ learning effectiveness can better be imagined than described. In conclusion, ASUU and F.G should recognize that the future of this country and the education of its citizens for overall development are premised on the formulations and implantation of positive educational and social policies. Therefore, the need for a re-evaluation of the education sector. Factors that often lead to strike in our institutions should be addressed. education should be properly and adequately funded to encourage effective research and to avoid brain drain. Meanwhile, government should always try to honour whatever agreement reached with the union, so as to avoid these problems. Most protracted strikes can be averted if necessary steps are taken to build a good relationship between both parties. It is worth emphasizing that any government with a poor education system is heading towards a black future. However, I hereby appeal to the conscience of ASUU and Federal Government of Nigeria to immediately speed up actions in resolving and implementing of their MoU and joint agreement between them to rescue the nation’s educational system. •Mr. Brainy (D-Luv) www.divineloveudorji..co.ke/2017/09/five-5-catastrophic-effects-of-ASUU.html?m=1 |
