Last Friday was a tragic day in Mpumalanga, South Africa, after a 23-year-old girl committed suicide after she had sex with her long lost father without knowing. According to the girl's mother - Sthabile Mkhwanazi 'lost' her father when she was still a baby and had to be raised by her mother only. The mother described Mr Mkwanazi (the sugar daddy) as a heartless, irresponsible man and coward who caused the untimely death of their own daughter. The mother revealed that Sthabile never got to know her biological dad because he had deserted his family donkey years back. The two only got to meet last Friday at a local club but they were not aware that they were the same blood. After hooking up inside the club, they agreed to head over to the Mkwanazi's house for sex. The following morning, while they were leaving the house, the girl’s mother coincidentally bumped into them and identified her runaway ex husband. She told her daughter that the man she was standing with is her father. The girl was completely inconsolable after learning that she had just committed incest with her own father. She reportedly failed to stomach the disturbing news and was so devastated she decided to take her own life. This is not the first time their town will witness such atrocity. In 2011, The Sowetan reported that a couple in South Africa who had been together for five years had a child and discovered that they are brother and sister just before their wedding. They were raised separately and met as adults in college. www.divineloveudorji..com/2016/05/shocking-girl-commits-suicide-after.html |
Many boisterous and healthy debates have broken out on social media platforms and, indeed, other fora on the recently adjusted price of petrol. But quite unexpectedly, some of the arguments are grounded in myths. Here are a few and my attempt to burst them. 1. The first myth is that subsidy does not exist: There is a subsidy when the pump price of petrol is below the effective cost. The effective cost is the landing cost plus the distribution cost plus margin. Subsidy is the difference between effective cost and the pump price of fuel. Landing cost for a litre of refined petroleum depends on theprice per barrel of crude oil. When government fixes the pump price of fuel below the effective cost, distortions are created. In elementary Economics, when a price is fixed below the equilibrium price, there will be a shortage and a black market will be created. The government in Nigeria was paying for the difference between the effective cost and the pump price. Government was therefore subsidizing the cost of fuel. Nigeria spent over $35 billion between 2010 and 2014 to subsidise petroleum products. 2. The second myth is that subsidy favours mostly the poor: This is not true. By paying fuel subsidies, we were subsidizing the consumption of imported petroleum products. We were therefore supporting production abroad and creating jobs abroad at the expense of Nigerians. Besides, outside Lagos and Abuja and other major cities where the controlled price of N86 was enforced, fuel was sold at between N150 and N180 in the rural communities. The government guaranteed price of N86 was therefore a myth as the poor people outside Lagos and Abuja had always paid N150 or more for a litre of fuel. The reality is that it is the rich and not the poor who benefit the most from Nigeria’s fuel subsidy. Findings by the IMF show that globally, the bottom 20% of household stake only 7% of fuel subsidy while the richest 20% take 43%. Nigeria’s fuel subsidy at some point accounted for 30% of total expenditure of the Federal Government and 118% of the capital budget. It also accounted for over 90% of annual oil revenues. Payment of oil subsidies was not only not sustainable, it crowded out spending on core infrastructure projects such as roads, railways and power with grave consequences for the standard of living of Nigerians. Besides, the artificially low and government guaranteed and subsidized price of fuel was a disincentive to private investment in the oil sector. It is not surprising that although the Federal Government approved over 20 refinery licenses to private investors many years ago, not one refinery has been built. I must however commend Aliko Dangote for his entrepreneurial acumen in this regard. His new refinery being built in Lagos and scheduled to be completed late 2018 will enhance local refining capacity. Rather than subsidizing the consumption of imported petroleum products we should support the private sector to build new refineries. Fuel subsidy also took a disproportionate share of dwindling foreign exchange allocated based on official rate. There was therefore an imperative need to free the resources deployed for the payment of fuel subsidies. Thankfully, government has made meaningful appropriations in the 2016 capital budget to upgrade infrastructure in the areas of roads, railways, agriculture, education, and provide support for small businesses. 3. The third myth is that at N86 per litre, Nigerians were already paying too much for fuel: The facts do not support this position. The Table below shows that at N145 per litre, the petrol price in Nigeria is about the lowest in West Africa. It is now clear why, at the old price of N86, the opportunities existed for arbitrage and corruption as fuel for which Nigeria already paid subsidy was smuggled to Niger, Cameroon, Ghana, etc, where there is no subsidy regime. Ghana, Cameroon, Mali, Senegal and Mauritania have petrol pump prices of N185, N218.9, N228.85, N234.82 and N256.71, respectively. 4. Removing fuel subsidy will fuel inflation is the fourth and the commonest of the myths: While it is true that the upward adjustment in the price of fuel will affect some components of the Consumer Price Index, the overall impact on prices will be cushioned by activities in other sectors of the economy, upgrade in public transportation and improved fiscal discipline. Over time, the efficiency of the market will drive down prices. 5. The fifth myth is also a fallacy. It states that if other oil-producing countries like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are paying fuel subsidies, why can’t Nigeria pay?: Saudi Arabia pays out of a huge surplus after meeting the expenditure needs of the country. Nigeria’s revenue is not enough to cover basic expenditure requirements. We cannot continue to run a country that spends more on subsidies than on the total capital budget. Other countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Ghana and Angola already took the bold step to remove subsidies on fuel prices. We should commend President Muhammadu Buhari for taking a decisive action to deregulate the downstream petroleum sector in the face of dwindling oil revenues and the pressure on the Naira. www.divineloveudorji..com/2016/05/five-myths-about-fuel-subsidy-you-must.html |

Another girl reported kidnapped by the Boko Haram militias from a secondary in Chibok has been rescued by the Nigerian army. This rescue comes hours after Amina Ali, the first Chibok girl rescued since the 2014 mass abduction of 219 school girls in Chibok. You would recall that Amina Ali and her daughter met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa yesterday. It is disclosed that the Army Spokesman Colonel SK Usman would provide the public with more details once the military was able to fully confirm her identity. www.blackberrybabes.com/2016/05/hours-after-first-rescue-nigerian-army.html |
Justeenaleo:If the husband is referred to as a king, then why is Charles the husband of queen Elizabeth of England referred to as a "Prince" ?? |
Open to criticism and debate Read below..... I don't understand why if a husband becomes a president, Governor or even a local government chairman, his wife automatically becomes the first Lady with functions, but when a wife attain such positions, what becomes of the husband. I don't understand why the wife or widow of a king ♔ is a queen but can the husband or a widower of a queen ♕ becomes a king ♔? Hell No. I don't understand why we have few female scholars. I don't understand why we have ministry of women affairs and non for men, yet they cry a river. I still don't understand why, when talking of scientific discoveries and inventions, few female names are mentioned, yet they hold onto the old saying "anything a man do, a woman can do better". I don't understand. I don't understand why we have glamorous women's day, mothers' day but the same cannot be said of the opposite. Still women preach gender equality. Who is the victim/ victimizer of gender inequality. I don't just understand. I don't understand why would a girl upload a picture on a social media and thousands of "likes" and "comments" would pour in from guys, but when a guy does same, only few or non of such "likes" and "comments". Even though we have fathers, brothers, uncles, nephews and we love them both, yet no one write good things about them. Am still yet to understand. I don't understand why a man marries a wife and takes her to his house but not the other way round. I don't understand why we claim, we don't like some one but cry when he/she dies. Please when I die don't cry for me. I don't understand why women likes cooking more than men. I don't understand why do men pay bride price but women do not pay "groom-price" (in most part of the world). www.divineloveudorji..com/2016/05/i-dont-understand-this-controversialism.html |

It would be recalled that the video vixen Enigma_Ladutchess (her instagram name) had last week ran to instagram to narrate how Andy Muller who claims to be Ali Baba's cousin had beat the hell out of her, then raped her and told her he was untouchable and there was nothing she could do. The Nigerian video vixen who was allegedly raped by a friend last week has now updated us on her alleged rapist. According to her, Andy has now been re-arrested and is presently in cell and would be charged to court for rape and inflicting injuries on her. www.divineloveudorji..co.ke/2016/05/ace-comedian-ali-babas-cousin-andy.html?m=1

chikel2000:You are right bro. Its the masses that suffers |
By: Divinelove Udorji "The foundation of every society is in the education of its youth". As the ongoing internal strike in Nasarawa State University, which began on the 7th of March 2016 clocks her second month, it has bewildered, amazed and perplexed NSUK students that till now there is obviously no hope in sight. It is rather alarming that strike actions are gradually becoming an indispensable part of every government owned high institution in Nigeria. The resultant and catastrophic effects of this incessant strike actions can not be over emphasised. As the proverbial saying goes "when two elephants fights the grass suffers". We the students are at the receiving end of this menace. Gone are the days when government owned high institution were regarded as the best in Nigeria, today we can no longer make bold to say we attend a government owned high institution in the mist of our peers who attend private owned high institutions, as too many of those with whom we got admitted together have either graduated or are far ahead of us because of our numerous strike actions. It is scary that today the academic quality of our government owned high institutions has declined drastically, as these high institutions are either been plagued by strike actions, over population, understaffed, under equipped or staffs been denied their adequate pay. Just as this locust-feasting kind of menace is gradually eating up the quality and standards of our education. These incessant strike actions has ruined the credibility of our government owned institutions, as these has lead to the mass exodus of Nigerian youths into seeking alternative higher education in private universities and outside the shores of the country, as these places are regarded as safe havens when it comes to acquiring higher education. Today private universities in Nigeria, Ghana and Benin Republic are smiling to the bank because Nigerian youths have increasingly bombarded this schools in a bid to seek qualitative higher education, devoid of strike actions. Nelson Mandela once said "education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world", could this assertion be said to be true in Nigeria, because with the rate at which our high institutions are nose-diving into shambles, it would be laughable to say that those words are possible to relate with in the Nigeria context. Ridiculous as it may sound but true, that too many of us are beginning to lose faith in our education system, just as too many of us have even forgotten the last class we were before the strike and what our matriculation numbers are. We students of NSUK want to resume, we don’t want an extra year nor an extra semester, all we want is a better NSUK!!!

Really nice |
Dear Nigerian men, please don't dangle the word 'marriage' as bait to fish women. Be a gentleman and say honestly that you don't want commitment or are too afraid to commit to a long term venture such as marriage. It's so old-fashioned to dangle "marriage" in order to get a woman. Being a bachelor or a spinster isn't bad either because you get to focus on your career or other humanitarian ventures which would be of greater benefit to society. Dear Nigerian women, run away from someone whose pickup line has 'marriage' in it, if a man is not interested in friendship first, don't marry him. When the romance/blues in the marriage ends in about 15-20 years, it's the friendship that will sustain you through the reggae period that will last till you die.
