better than local league in Nigeria here but overall, not a good career omen for serious and aspiring footballer unless he is as lucky as Mikel to feature "massively" at an int'l competition and move to real Europe as football is concerned! Good luck to him anyways
Do you know FC Zurich?

How many Nigerians have moved directly from the local league to mainstream European club in the last 25 years? Since Kanu from Iwuanyanwu to Ajax in 1993 or thereabouts.

Others first moved to backwater leagues in Malta or Norway or South Africa or Tunisia or tier-2 clubs in Belgium before top European club scouts are them.

By the way, if FC Zurich top the Swiss League as they are currently doing, this guy will be playing against Messis annd Ronaldos in UCL next year!

Exxon has big presence in Akwa Ibom and contributes very significantly to the economy of the state. Highest PAYE (personal income tax ) payer to the state government, biggest patrons of hotels in the state, biggest customers to many businesses and indigenous suppliers.

So why would they relocate the Head Office to Akwa Ibom when they know Lagos is safer and most administrative works can only be done from the city?

I know all this because I also work in a company that is present in Akwa Ibom state.

And who says an accountant can not apply for other social science jobs. I'm also an accountant, infact a chartered accountant. Before my job as a finance and production accountant with a media company, I previously worked as a Regional Area Administrator with a FMCG firm, Logistics Manager with a shipping and Logistics company.
Trust me I've attended lot of interviews and switch jobs as well, in most openings, it would be categorically stated that an accountant with Bsc or HND in accounting is required to apply. Professional qualification is an added advantage. An economics, backed up with ACA/ACCA without considerable accounting experience still may not stand an accounting without ACCA, but little experience in getting that job.

Also, a professional qualification without a first degree may also deny you job opportunites
Area administrator
Logistics Manager

Any course will actually get you this. These are not course-specialized roles. In other words, if you had not studied Accounting, but Sociology or Economics or English, you would still have gotten these jobs.

They are not discipline specific. They have more to do with your personal skills and ability to convince the interviewer you can handle them.

Is it even my post you intended to reply because I don't think it is.
It is. You said we should all drop out like Ibeto. And he told you 99% of those that didnt go to school end up bad, only 1% end up like Ibeto.

Accountants have better chances of employment than economist even without a professional qualification. What most economist do because of the low chances of employment is to enrol for ICAN/ACCA or CFA in order to either be at par with an accountant or be better of than an accountant without a professional qualification.

Statistics have it that most economist in Nigeria end up not practising, as they switch to other discipline/career path.

For those that said accountants can not be an economist, you're wrong. Most accountants with professional qualification such as CFA, ACCA, ACA will do far better in respect of finance, business and investment analysis, as well as portfolio management.
Without professional qualification in accounting at least, no serious employer takes an accountant seriously.

He doesnt have any edge in accounting job over an Agric graduate that has accounting professional qualification.

An accounting graduate without professional qualifications (and not writing one) can only get accounting job in government company or tier two companies.

However, if it is not accounting job, he would be considered for general jobs (non-course specific, general graduate jobs, under-26) like a graduate of say Sociology or Political science in banks, Big 4, and other general recruiters.

Even if he gets a Big 4 job, he has to enrol for ACCA/ICAN if he is posted to Tax or Assurance/Audit. Same process a Sociology graduate that got a Big 4 Tax/Audit job will go through.

So why "waste" 4 years when someone that studied Economics and and wrote ICAN/ACCA in less than 2 years will get same job in your field, and on top of that, still available for jobs in his own field.

my opinion as an accounting graduate and chartered accountant,i wud suggest u study economics for ur b.Sc and write ur Ican exams along with it. this gives u an advantage of applying for social science jobs and also accounting jobs. trust me any1 can b an accountant by just passing Ican. so why use 4 years 2 study accounting wen u can just write Ican and bcome a chartered accountant. u can also ask experienced folks like jarus..
Nothing to add. You've said it all.

That's if he replies. Wait sef, does he even like Soccer? His obsessions are Dogs. He's shy, doesn't like football, hates being the centre of attention and smiling for cameras. He's a GEEK. It'll be easier for a camel to pass through the needle's eye than Seun showing up at Campos Mini stadium.
Forget Seun, he wont show up. Never.

Nairaland GeneralRe: What Decisions Have You Taken That Have Affected Your Life Positively? by Jarus(m): 8:19pm On Sep 08, 2017
1, Moving from science to commercial class in SS1, despite the mockery of my friends who felt I was running away and that commercial class was for dull students. Most were only doing Science just to prove they were superior. I realised early in life I was cut out for story writing.

2, Studying Economics. The course I would have done best in.

3, Choosing OAU. Really helped me in post-school exposure coming from a somehow village background. OAU also helped me in religious understanding. It was also a perfect system that wasn't based on materialism and made me remain who I was without undur influence.

4, Writing ICAN during my service year. Got me my first job. Now I have earned my living as an accountant all my post-NYSC years.

@Jarus,

You can go ahead and renew your passport first. Once your naija passport is less than 6 months to expiry, you can renew the passport.

No need to wait for the passport to expire before you renew.
I knew. Thanks.

Just been too busy to renew since May. Now, I have to do that ASAP.

The casualness of that guy's comment on divorce though.

Divorce rate in the North is worrisome.
