[s] Sylverly: Narrow minded you said. I feel you are the one that had failed to come in terms with the dynamic nature of hiring in our present dispensation. Haven't you heard of an employer that purposely sent Airtime to an unsuspecting job seeker, asking her to kindly return such Airtime as it was a mistake, while it was simply a test.
Maybe I should tell you how a HR at Mobil oil HQ called over the phone, with so much questions about my available credentials (without any email notification)..
Get adapt or stay behind. [/s] What you said has nothing to do with the dynamic nature of recruitment. These companies are shortchanging folks out there because they know people are in desperate need of jobs hence, they can dishout any rubbish and call it a recruitment process. But no wahala sha... if you are comfortable with being shortagechanged , I wish you all the best . |

[s] kingxsamz: Stop disgracing yourself on this forum. Can't you see how folks are disappointed at you? The fact that you keep defending the lady and keep saying her character is not necessary in this case is very stupid . Character and attitude is necessary in every aspect of life. I have to use that word because you have been on this thread since morning exhibiting stupidity. You're in no position to tell a company what information outlet they should make use of when contacting people. And to think that the girl even gave out her contact to be reached out to and you're here defending stupidity is outrageous. You need help. And I'm sure you don't have a job. When you finally get one and they contact you through whatsapp, tell them that they're very unprofessional and let's see how far you'll go. You're not even ashamed. [/s] Not one ounce of sense is seen from this your poorly written comment. But I will blame that on your lack of exposure. Since it is obvious that shithole Nigeria is setting stupidity and incompetence as a standard in a company's recruitment process. |

LordOfTheGame: My friend stop supporting idiocy. Nobody invaded her stupid and poverty ravaged privacy. The moment she made her phone number public in application for a job, the employer is free to use the number in any platform at his disposal, which WhatsApp is a platform like that. Why didnt she give them her email if her number is her privacy? I can bet you, if the employer had called her in a direct call, that's how the bitch would've still responded or even worse. A mannerless girl is a mannerless girl, nothing can change her except situations like this. What happens to answering the greeting and politely ask "May I know you, please" or "Please I don't think i know or have met you before, could you please explain yourself ".... statements like this are super matured and polite. Even if the caller or the writer is a toaster, these lines of statements can knock him off balance for a moment and reset his views about the girl. Anyways, Some nigerian and African girls are the worst set of women a man should talk to. Your post reeks of extreme foolishness and lack of consideration. But let me ask you this : 1.What would it have cost the company to give the lady prior notice before reaching out to her ? 2. Should interviews be conducted on WhatsApp through strange numbers? 3. The HR agent did not even package his text well: he was breaking sentences like a would-be suitor. Who the hell does that?! |

Oktane: There is absolutely nothing wrong with the way the interview was conducted. His Salutations should have calmed her down; 'Hello Mary'.
He greeted her with her first name. What more was she expecting? The least she could have done is to be a little patient.
But no need to argue about this. The message has been passed. Even Mary would have learnt her lessons judging from the way she begged later on as if her life was dependent on that job.
Important question for you Sir; With benefit of hindsight, do you think she will repeat this behaviour consciously in a subsequent experience?
That is the best answer to the question regarding if she was wrong or not.
I rest my case. Life did not begin and end with this company, so Mary will get another job (most certainly). But the company should upgrade their HR if they want to stay in business. Peace. |

Oktane: I have read all your responses to this post. You are obviously not very familiar with contemporary HR processes especially as it regards recruiting a fresh member into your organisation.
There is no standard for a first time discourse with a potential employee. This was a very befitting approach as it took the lady unawares and exposed her underbelly. She is rude, uncouth arrogant and has a very limited scope.
Perhaps this will be a good lesson to everyone; Never ever be in a hurry to ask the person on the line who he/she is. In the course of the conversation this will be naturally revealed.
I have had the privilege of being on a Phone Interview panel trying to recruit fresh graduates during the pandemic. My experiences in this case will fill a book. Most candidates only become courteous (albeit pretentiously) when they suspect we are calling in respect of their career future.
Many Nigerians have no sense of courtesy. Be calm in responding to calls. If the person has your number and make the effort to call then he will make his intention known at some point of the conversation. There is nothing befitting about the incompetent nature of what this company is doing. But I am sure this is how typical Nigerian companies handle their recruitment process...right? Smh |
