In 2013, During the 3rd Thai Agro international Agribusiness Summit in Thailand, The Borno state government sponsored about 180 youths to attend the summit. The youths of Borno state spent 3months in Thailand (The longest time spent by a group for training after the summit). The youths were paid allowances by the government, Paid their feeding, accommodation, training and summit participation fee, including local and international transport. And when they came back, the government gave each one of them grants to start something. Today, none of them is practising. I made friends with most of them. The last time I spoke with one of the girls, she said she was getting married. I said, so... the grant given to you by government for agriculture na him you dey use marry, she replied "wetin man go do?" It's indeed only in Nigeria that people care more about taking fish, getting fish, learning how to fish, eating fish, frying fish, drying fish e.t.c but are hardly interested in actually fishing. It's hardly about the knowing and talking. It's more about Doing! This training is geared at getting you to do something!!! |
I just stumbled upon this pic in my gallery and decided to share... Last year the Imo state government gave land to Thai Agro and Allied to set up a pilot cucumber farm in owerri. Guess who they called to set up and manage the farm? Me! so, yes, it's one in a long lists of farms I co-own or manage.Imagine my surprise to visit the farm and see the governor eating my cucumber. Lol. Long story short, that visit has helped me access a lot of ministry of agric facilities in Imo state.I laugh at people when they queue up in government house to submit proposal. My belief is that if you aspire to be the best, and actually get there. you won't stand on any queues Moral of this story: Whatever you are doing, be the best at it and watch world Leaders queue up to meet you. Thanks to Thai Agro for helping me get here o. honestly

Where will you be on the 13th and 14th of March 2015? In 2011 Thai Agro and Allied Industries sent about 20 individuals for their first international Agribusiness Executives summit, to be trained in the areas of Vegetable, shrimp, rice and fish farming in Thailand. I was opportuned to be a member of the team. Back then I was not exactly financially "comfortable" as I am now. It took every scrapping of penny for me to enroll in the summit. I remember the visa/transport/feeding/accommodation/conference fee cost about $5,000. and then it was really big money to me. It was a 3 weeks training The training cost me time, money and alot of other things. But I made a conscious decision to go for the training and utilize everything I am taught. A decision which today has changed my life. (I cant say the same for the other 19 participants from Nigeria). I have not missed a single international Summit ever since then. Most are neither practising nor using the wealth of knowledge that has been shared with them. They saw the trip as a field trip or tourist trip and not an opportunity to make change and impart the nation. Over the past 4years, since my return, I have freely trained over 500 individuals on agribusiness and vegetable farming. I own farms with monthly revenue in millions. Some people on Nairaland, Twitter, Facebook, BBM and whatsapp have also been beneficiaries of that one single sacrifice I made. Don't get it twisted, the sacrifice was not just the fact that I spent time and money training in Thailand. Not at all, that was the easy part. The Difficult part was coming back home and starting up something! So, before you answer my question at the beginning. you have to do a brief soul search and see if you are ready to: 1. Start something after the training? (No matter how small) 2. Make the Sacrifice of being at the Training? 3. Humble yourself to learn from practical Agribusiness Entrepreneurs and Be Bold enough to go out there and make some money. If your Answer to this 3 questions is yes, Please go ahead to register for the training below. But if it's no. Don't bother coming, because this training will be another money wasted. (Like the 19 participants) NB: This is the first time the Thai Agro Executive Agribusiness summit will be holding in Nigeria. It might not hold here again after this. You can never be sure.

MsJJ: . my partner in crime. whatchout for the whatsapp group. |
Pavore9:yessir. our father's failed us. we won't fail our children.
|
Cohsyn:We need.more people coming in the area of agric. I have alot of great friends who have keyed into agric. |
@mercylicious. you'd be surprised how our people can be naive at times. I don't want to start sharing experriences because this is a public forum. But you ask yourself, how functional is BOA in the south east or youwin or yeap or other agricultural loans, grants and programs. Aside from the fact that land is super expensive in the east, our people have lost interest in agriculture generally. I remember growing up, every family would have a small garden, cassava or yam farm and a few goats, sheep and chicken hovering around the compound. At least in the rural areas. but now, they are all eating indomie and bread. Agric in the east is a big shadow of itself. |
mercylicious:My madam. I duff my hat for you o. You are moving with power and might. with this your job and all. to still have time for agric. I can't help but respect. it's not easy. especially in the south east, were our people trivialize agriculture. I for invite you for this training, because you are heading to being an agribusiness entrepreneur. but knowing the nature of your job, ![]()

cannot wait for first harvest. the crops have been through a lot. especially with pest invasion. but our experienced hands on the field were able to handle it. no we know what to look forward to in the bigger project, that's why it's always good to have a test plot or pilot project |
saliubello:yes o.. sorry, network in saki is just horrible.. it has been a battle all along. we tried planting without mulching film but the area is very vegetative and the grass grows like hybrid. and we have to weed every 3 days. we decided it's not worth the stress, so we decided to mulch. But our test project has grown and is fruiting. I'll upload the pictures soon.

David Beckham anyday. Dude was a freekick god |

stagger: jethro2: stagger:Time out guys... you are derailing the thread. You guys are bigger and better than this. Can we move on? Self restraint is very important here. I should believe you guys can ignore each other. yes? no?
|
darella21:Really? |
cut it out guys, this is becoming a bit embarrassing. There's no need to shove our opinions each other's throat. If I object to your beliefs it doesn't mean I am attacking you. For all we know, any of the both parties can be right/wrong. My own belief is that nobody is completely right and nobody is completely wrong. Personally my spirit doesn't agree with most government grants and all those their program because of personal reasons and experience. but I encourage anybody who wants to try to keep trying, you never know where your help is. In other news, Thai Agro Agribusiness Summit 13 & 14 of march.
