Hmmm (sigh)

Nice discussion. Knowing about design patterns means one is exposed and informed about the trends of coding. Implementing them makes you an expert.

However, i fell design patterns evolve as you code. When you find out that you tend write a particular line of code often, then design patterns come in. Thats just the raw undiluted meaning of it. Its all about reusablilty of objects.

If you are an experienced programmer, of course u would use them. They could be yours and if a programmer finds them useful, he could use them too.

With design patters, u can almost rewrite a programming language (lol) because in my case, java doesnt seem to me as java anymore. I have patterns for almost everything i do. If what bores you with a language is the long lines you have to write to get something done, try design patters.e.g

Because i want to display an option pane to inform the user than an operation was successful and also to play a small audio filei have to write this annoying stuff,

But with design patterns,

Thats just an idea and u cud have patterns for even bigger stuffs like DB connections and all. I hope i used the right illustrations sha.

While its good to know about standard patterns, its not much of a big deal (just my opinion). What really matters is the overall results. Employers and business owners would be concerned about time, quality and a hitch free job. If you know about design patterns andyou produce a rubbish job, whats the essence, ?

I read a comment in a post about Java. I didn't read it completely because I am STRONGLY anti-Java.

As far as I am concerned, JAVA has failed. It started with a hype - Write Once, Run Anywhere. Has anyone done that? I don't think so. One good thing, JAVa opened our eyes to a concept which was right under our noses: use a platform specific engine while the high level language can be written in well - high level. The code is translated to a intermediate form which is run.

.NET from Microsoft uses the same principle, so is RunRev (from http://runrev.com).

A friend of mine wanted to convert me to Java, giving me theory, history and other , I stopped withone simple question "Which JAVA program have you written that runs on Windows (all variants), Linux, Unix, Mac, Solaris, OS2, Symbian, Palm"

Web, Desktop and Mobile, its java all the way. U also saied no one has created a cross platform independent app with java, ? research well before posting oooo cos i have quiet a few of them I have a software called Quiet Office. Its a IM, Mailing System (downloads ur mails from d webserver and u can send mails to other pple on d network), Voice chat and other jucies, The employees use both windows and linux, and it runx without any hitch,

wat d hell? Has programming become a religion or something, ? I can tell u authoritatively that MODERN DAY JAVA FOR ME IS THE BEST ON THE DESKTOP WEB AND MOBILE. How often do u check java.net and its communities, ? Do that at least once a week to get the latest. Just say anything, anything at all, it can be achieved with java.

The desktp wahala u guys were mentioning in ur posts is a gone issue. Java is smooth on th desktop (i more of a desktop programmer sha - SWING). If u dont know aw to code, then go back to skool,

I code in Java, .NET PHP and FLEX and whe the situation arises, i pick the language that fits in. Dont decieve urself oooooo.

contact manager? is that what you call it? i had an address book made, using javascript and cookies (not exactly the best, but i was experimenting with cookies). making a contact manager with all that features will be piece-a-cake, dude! lol! but i'm not in for this, sorry!

So if its a contact manager, it doesnt mean we are amateurs, Use your programming prowress to develop a simple, yet professional contact manager with a language of your choice. That way, everyone learns from it because it would bridge the gap between the extreme programmers and the newbies. You cud design a stock market app or something higher, i would still do my contact manager and get an award for it. Here we are sharing and the best way we can do that is to put what we know into practice so others can download our codes and learn. We might also be testing professionalism applied in coding, choice of components, GUI and all,

DId u read through our previous posts, its not a competion and if u are not interested, u cud have just clicked the back button. Every line of code u write is a solution to some else's problems. By doing this, we are also helping future googlers and newbies who might be needng help, It wud be nice to know they got their solutions from nigerians, and in the process, we are repairing our already dented image

well, there are a few which i've already forgotten, but so long as the name "software" or "application" is concerned,

1. F.L.A.M.E.S. - i'm sure you guys know the game. we used to play it back in primary & seconday school
2. Password Generator - it generates a random password of any lenght you want, of letter, numbers or both
3. Text Encoder/Decoder - a silly text encoder i made. it simply scrambles the letters of text so it makes no sense when read until decoded, by the same software (unless you know the encoding algorithm, which i highly doubt you'd get easily! lol)
4. Calculator - a very simple calculator like the one that comes with windows xp.
5. ProTx - a simple plain text editor i made for my HTML students. it has added features like background music, display current file size, display date & time, calculator (i simple incorporated my calculator from #4 above) and quick page preview, with which those learning HTML can quickly preview their HTML codes in the browser, strainght from the editor
6. i also made one stupid simple interest calculator when i was thinking "forex"

and if you want to consider web applications too,
7. eBSta - a customised website content management system. it does anything you want it to do for your website. ie. i customize it to your needs. its very user-friendly and almost anyone with good computer knowledge can use it.
8. WIGN (pronounced as win, the "g" is silent, like in sign) - its a very easy to use mysql manager, more like a lite version of PHPMyAdmin, just that its very user-friendly and almost anyone with good computer knowledge can use it.

there was one i did, an experiment actually, it was like a draw pad. i never named it because it was very limited in features and i never completed it to export to several image formats.

more are coming. right now, i'm thinking of working on a LINUX/UNIX emulator for Windows OS. I hope to use C++.
