Javanian:

Why can't you save that money and take advantage of the numerous free online resources and learn on your own undecided

Thing is, not everyone can kick start learning on their own. Some need to be taught and they can build on what they have learnt. Others can just pick up books and become geeks in a few weeks.

@adelolaa

You can visit any of their centers. I attended the VI center

wwweb:
The fact that you must think like a computer is wrong! A computer must think like u... So, u gotta develop ur IQ.

I once made a quote that "the greatest impossibility in the world of IT, is the possibility of a computer doing what its not told to do. The computer can never have an idea" (Lukman J, 2012).

So I agree with you 100%. Don't forget though, that the computer relies on your idea to think and strengthen its decision making process (using different constructs - if:else; while etc). So in other words, you are responsible for the thoughts, actions and inactions and it is important would-be programmers understand this principle.

Thanks

Well, I finished from NIIT many many years ago and those materials should be somewhere around my house in Naija. Haven't set my eyes on them for over ten years. I guess you can make do with eBooks as there are lots of free learning materials lying around the internet

Programming / So You Want To Be A Programmer...? by javalove(m): 2:05pm On Sep 24, 2013
So you want to be a programmer? You want to write web and desktop applications. You want to develop software for the iPhone and the Android market You want to be a solutions provider to companies and individuals alike. Let me share tips that will help in your quest to be one of us – the geeky do-gooders!

Like any other profession, IT requires determination, patience and willingness to persevere. The begining could be very challenging and intimidating because you might find it hard to figure out some ugly looking write-ups called “codes”. You would wonder why a line – JButton buttonObject = new JButton(“Click Me”) – should create a button with “Click Me” written on it in Java. You might even be thinking about wireless internet connections as some voodoo from the west.

Being a PROGRAMMER or a SOFTWARE DEVELOPER is not rocket science. It’s not as hard as many make it seem. Those codes that scare you seem to me as the easiest part of our profession. Once you understand the structure, the rules and the syntax, basically the ‘logic’ of why codes are written in programming language, the rest is easy.
Also, note that the more you code, the more you try out examples in the book you are reading, the eaiser it will be for you to master the coding techniques of the language. I remember my NIIT (an Indian school in Nigeria) days. I would always volunteer to do the coding, ever willing to help a mate identify errors in his/her code. By the end of the first semester, my coding skills was actually faultless.

Once you master coding, the rest depends on how well you can think. Don’t wait for your instructor to tell you what to do. Go ahead and give yourself a pet project. It could be as simple a project as creating a database of students in your college with information on their names, grades and activities. Build it in bits. As your knowledge grows, let the software you are building grow in functionality as well. Who knows, it just might turn out to be a gold mine for you.

In my case, the pet project I did at NIIT, Hospital Management System, kick started my career and put me on the IT radar in Nigeria. I travelled different states, met high-profile people, addressed a cross section of medical practitioners, all at the age of 22! Since then, it’s been one challenging project or the other.

You also need to start thinking like a computer. Start viewing life and events around you with an IT lens. You walk into a resturant, order a pie and a drink totalling $10. If you pay less than the total, the computer rejects. What do you think is happening there.? Consider this statement

If amount paid < 10. . . . tell customer money incomplete else
Print reciept for customer.
If a Java programmer were to right this, its simple
if(amount < 10)
{
showMessage(“Customer money incomplete”);
}
else
{
printReceipt();
}

Another example. Imagine you are playing the FIFA 2011 soccer game (Sorry, I’m a game freak smiley smiley with a mate and at the end of the first half, the match analysis is displayed showing that your team had 3 corner kicks and 2 offsides. What comes to your mind? It means there is a ‘variable’ to store value for each of those game highlights. The variable is set to zero at kickoff and incremented by 1 anytime you win a corner kick or caught offside. At the end of the half, the variables are retrieved and presented to you. If you did not win a corner kick, the variable remains zero. Does it make sense?

Bottom line here is how logically you can break down or tear apart any situation in daily life and apply it to programming. This will determine your pace of learning as well. Start paying attention to the things you normally ignore. From your ATM machine telling you “Insufficient Funds” to your webmail application returning an ‘Invalid Login’ message. The more you understand the dynamics behind these simple things, the faster it will be for you to come up with solutions to problems related to IT, technology, finance, pharma, healthcare, education and even entertainment and sports industries (think about cricket match analysis on your TV).

Again, don’t expect that you will master the syntax or grammar of coding in a day or learn computer languages immediately. The more you write them, the easier they are for you to recall.

Note also, that not everyone will end up being a coder, however, a good understanding of the intricacies involved will help. So, for instance, if you decide to be an IT Project Manager or an Application Specification Developer amongst other fields, you should have the basic understanding of coding and programming.

Finally, you need a writing pad. As the wind blows new ideas to your direction, write them down. What kind of idea it is, who will it affect or who are the target audience, what do you need to bring it to life, revenue generation strategies and so on, should be penned.

Islam for Muslims / Re: Why Islam Prohibits You From Eating Pork ~ 15 Things You Should Know About Pigs by javalove(m): 2:17pm On Apr 23, 2013
diarra94: I dont understand, was it scientist then who researched all this and told prophet mohammed about it and he made it a comandment nt to eat pork or what? cos ur ONLY giving us scientific and not religious reasons nt to eat pork.

Well, my dear brother. Allah created man and every other thing scientists are researching into. They are only researching what he already knew. Hence, the commandment for muslims not to eat pork is not scientific but spiritual. There was no way our prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) could have known how dangerous pork was at that time. It only meant that the commandment came from a higher authority.

If you pick uo the Qur'an, not just the issue of eating pork, there are so many other commandments/admonitions and information that could not have been possible to know back then. It is only now that we have microscopes and all "other forms of scopes" grin that we can tell.

For further reading, google scientific miracles of the Qur'an.

Education / Re: List Of Richest Students In University Of Lagos by javalove(m): 4:16pm On Feb 15, 2013
reportnaija: School of first choice, as it is fondly called by many, UNILAG is one top spot for rich, hot dudes and babes. They are the ones who rule the social scene in the University of Lagos. Ask around, and you will hear their names. We serve you the dons and doyennes of the UNILAG social scene.

Young Money: This is one rich dude who stands out from the pack. A student of the Mathematics department, Young Money, as he is usually called is always a toast to many. Young money and his friends have made Unilag their bedroom, as they control everything they come in contact with.

B-Naira: This list wouldn’t be complete without the name of the richest students in the University of Lagos, BNaira. He is a geography student, a club aficionado and a lover of all beautiful things, living or non-living. Rumors have it that his excessive spending does not have a proper origin, but this has not in any way deterred the young man or even his flocks of female admirers. He rides a Range Rover painted bright red.

Babs Moola: Babs Moola is the boss of one of the biggest clubs in UNILAG. He runs Hitchers Entertainment, an upscale entertainment outfit in school. He is the boss of bosses, a cool dude, with swag and influence. He rolls with the biggest dudes and babes on campus.

Laolu: This is another big boy on campus. He is the club chief, ON Entertainment. This is the crew responsible for some of the biggest and craziest parties in school.

Henry Chylln: Henry is a top dude in school. No club party is complete without the presence of this young dude. He was nominated in the last Behind Awards for the award of Top Club Boy.

Jide Purple Haze: Another top brass in the University of Lagos. This is one dude who runs the big things in big ways. His ride is one of the most envied on campus.

Deji Dejovo
: Popularly known as Mr. Flash, is a big boy in his own right. Girls flock around him like butterflies around honey. He dresses well, rides one of the flyest cars on campus, and is regarded as one of the hottest dudes in school.

Prime Minister: Prime Minister, as he is popularly called is indeed a big boy in the University of Lagos. He is one of those influential few on campus who dictate style and taste.

Tobi Bakare: A student of the department of Accounting, Tobi Bakare is a don by himself. He is very popular, and well loved by all.

Adeori McFape: Another student who has, overtime, grown to become one of the big wigs on campus. He reps the department of Quantity Surveying. He is the boss of one of the biggest clubs in the school. He runs Fuse Entertainment.

Monalisa Omorodion: This is one strong name in the Unilag social community. She is a student of the department of Economics, a nominee for the award of the most popular female in a Nigerian university. She has a powerful clique of friends that rule the school.

Nneoma Okpara: She is one of the richest and biggest students in the Law Faculty. She stands out as a doyenne and style dictator in the University of Lagos.

Olivia Messango: It’s not enough to list names without mentioning the very pretty and socially respected Olivia Messango of the department of Economics. She is a worthy inclusion on this list.

Obioma Isiwu: Very pretty and sociable, she was a contestant in the last MBGN, and came out of it with the title of Miss Tourism. She is one of the biggest babes on campus.

Susan Efeji
: Very few would know her, as she stays outside the school environment most of the time. She is a very busty lady with every sexy endowment that can make a warm blooded man empty his pockets in a hurry. She drives an exotic Range Rover, which was bought for her by one of her sugar daddies. Her clients are not young boys, but are the top men who walk the corridors of power.

Omoti Neni: A student of the Law faculty, she is a high-flyer in school. A trend setter and a fashionista. Her status as a big babe on campus is not to be argued.

Ify freckles Obi: This babe from the department of English is one to reckon with. She is like the freshest babe on campus. She is a style diva, and as such a goddess for so many on campus. She was nominated for the award of the most beautiful Nigerian female student in the 2012 Behind Awards.

Hi All

Its javalove and I need someone very good in CSS and a bit of jQuery to create for me the attached interface. The UI should

1. Not use tables
2. The top, left and side bars should be fixed. Only the content area (center) should scroll (facebook anyone?)
3. The top bar should be filled with the contents of zip1
4. I should be able to control the width, height, title bar color of any of the <div> from css. Though green is the preferred color.
5. Once completed and I like it, 10k is yours.

Completed works should be sent to - For transparency, I could send the money to Seun in advance and he will disburse to the winner.

C'est fini.

Please help place this on the front page. If there is no space, remove any of Tonto Dikeh's thread to create one smiley

Romance / Re: Men Only! What Can Make You Cry? by javalove(m): 4:51pm On Dec 06, 2012
Wrote this poem in August. . .smiley

I cry

When the chips fall off my shoulders
When I put up a cowardly bold face
And there is no grave to bury the shame in it
When I find myself doing things I preach against
When I seem to fear myself more than death
When I know I’m not truthful within
And everyone around marvels at my honesty
When I look into the mirror and get scared by what I see
Or when I sit on my bed. .
Thinking of what I said or should not have said

I cry

For every “I love you” I have said without conviction
Or every person I have led in the wrong direction
For every promise I broke
Or curse words that I spoke
For every buried histroy I dug out and sleeping forgotten pains I awoke
I get deep fried in pains like Artichoke
My life gets filled with smoke and the sincerity is choked out of me
At this juncture,

I cry

Qur’an chapter 30:21 is what explains what you are to me
I’m the sun, you are the moon
You are a reflection of me, my thoughts and everything I desire in a woman. . .believe me
Walking and holding hands with you meant so much to me
Everyone staring at us, I’m like “All these attention on me?”
Because everytime I’m with you, its like a blessing for me
Love built on friendship. . .friendship built on love. .. you were Allah’s gift to me
Your smile melted my heart and your voice was a healing for me
I still think about the first SMS you sent to me
Urging me to observe my Shawal . . .you reminded that it’s good for me
You took me closer to the heavens and made the earth long for me
And brought a new born me I never thought existed in me

But how did it all end up in tears for me. . .
Cos I cry everytime I realize you are no longer for me
No longer with me
What went wrong is still a mystery to me
But Allah knows best and knows what is best for me
Whenever I think of you and me

I cry. . .

Amha tagged me the happiest person on earth
Neither because of my wealth nor my berth
Because I seem to be happy all the time when I’m with my folks
And that reminds me of a passage, and I quote

“Allah will not change the condition of a people, until they change the condition of what is within themselves”

End quote
So, tears in my life I outvote
And on joy and happiness I float
Before I close,
I would love to propose
A toast
To the man that smiles when he needs to
Laughs when he needs to
Loves when he needs to
Shares when he needs to
And most importantly, cries when he needs to

NB: Qur'an 30:21 = "And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquillity with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect."

Islam for Muslims / Re: The Challenges Of Igbo Muslims by javalove(m): 1:46pm On Aug 05, 2012
vemmawealth:

Some of us know who this your Allah is and d understanding of his personality only points at one thing. That Islam is a deception.

Allah is an arabic word meaning "the god" .The arabic word for God is not Allah. "illah" is the arabic word for God. That's why Muslims say " la illah ill Allah" meaning "there is no God but "the-god"

Allah was worshipped by ancestors of Muhammad (peace cannot possibly be upon him). His grand father (Abdulmutallib) worshiped Allah and named Muhammad's father AbdAllah (meaning the servant of Allah). Allah was one of the over 360 idols housed in the Kaaba. Muhammad (peace cannot possibly be upon him) came and dislodged all others and left only Allah/ "the god" (the black stone)

There's also Allat(meaning "the goddess"wink She is mentioned in the Qur'an (Sura 53:19), pre-Islamic Arabs considered her as one of the daughters of Allah along with Manāt and al-‘Uzzá.

The shrine and temple dedicated to Allat in Taif was demolished by Abu Sufyan ibn Harb, on the orders of Mohammed (trying to cover his claim that God has no Son), during the Expedition of Abu Sufyan ibn Harb, in the same year as the Battle of Tabuk.

Another basis for its deception is d Islamic paradise/heaven. It promises unlimited ssexual oorgies and drunkenness but missed out on women. In Sura 56:11 downward talk about special thrones of Gold n precious stones and virgins that are of d same age in d garden of bliss. Plus Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes, and made them virgin - pure (and undefiled).

Sura 3:15 says "Shall I give you glad tidings of things Far better than those? For the righteous are in Gardens in nearness to their Lord, with rivers flowing beneath; therein is their eternal home; with companions pure (virgin); and the good pleasure of Allah".

In the haddith Mishkat al Masabih, Mohammed said "d lowliest of d inhabitant of paradise will have 80,000 servants and 72 wives (virgins)......"

There is also rivers of wine. Sura 47:15 says "(Here is) a Parable of the Garden which the righteous are promised: in it are rivers of water incorruptible; rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine, a joy to those who drink; and rivers of honey pure and clear. In it there are for them all kinds of fruits; and Grace from their Lord."

This is not balanced because women too should have their own virgin men and 72 husbands(pure). Instead, everything is about men as if no woman is qualified to enter islamic heaven.

Quit being deceived, Muhammad never met with any Angel Gabriel in any cave. At best, he had an encounter with a demon. God cannot hand over his entire agenda for mankind to only one Man. Allah is not God but d family idol of Muhammad which he militantly imposed on Meccans and others.

@ The Bolded

Ignorance at its peak!!!! Please study the arabic language structure before you post. ALLAH is the Arabic word for God Almighty and ilah means a "small god" The word Allah is not used by only muslims but Arab christians and druids. . .

Learn. . .learn. . .learn. . .

The problems with christians is that you guys don't study other faith. . . stop reading fake articles written by non-muslims. .learn islam from the muslims and draw your own conclusions. . .

Qur'an Chapter 2 v 256

"Let their be no compulsion in religion, for truth stands out distinctly from error"

I am muslim and proud. These boko bastar.ds are fooling everyone and destroying the beautiful way of life (Islam)

First, they said they are fighting western education
Second, they said they are avenging deaths of people killed in 2001
Third they said they want the release of their members
And now, Islamize Nigeria. . .oro buruku toun terin. . .

The more I read about them, the more I re-affirm my belief that some forces are behind them. . .using them as a tool to destabilize Nigeria. Prophet Muhammed did not force anyone to accept Islam. . .But its easier for non-muslims to believe BH than to believe the rest of the muslims. Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda, Al-Shabab etc do not represent us. . .

Allah will expose them all one day

D'Soj:
And that’s when I realized that we came to play a great part
Even brave heart had a late start,
Even the great artists make fake art,
Until they realized just who they’re,
We are movies stars but we are not aware,
Of the who or the what, the why we are here,
Looking up into the sky, tryna dry your tears,
Waiting on a hero and deny a peer,
And what my message is? is that is really you,
Meant to change the drama baby,
That you going through,
You’re the change, you’re the hope, you’re the miracle,
You are all the strength you need in times unbearable,
Nothing is given freely but we can live ideally,
If we can seize the moment and only be the proponent,
It took a moment but now I get it,
The world is waiting on me mehn
I’m fucking epic
Real lines. Word. Mr Incredible

I laugh. . . See e don tey wey i dey lecture small heads like you. . . Go watch the original BET cypher video and hear how your hero introduced Modenine. . . thats all I can tell you. .
