nampofo:Hi nampofo, once again, the processing times are just guidelines. the CIC website even went on to explain that this is the time most applications are processed, not all of them. maybe verification are taking longer than normal in your case. you have to be patient. you can also use the CSE form or send mails since your processing time has elapsed, you should get a response. also bear in mind that the processing timeline of an application is the one displayed on the CIC website at the time the application was made and not the current one being displayed. best of luck |
ladylco:dear ladylco, i have seen the message request but please share here. i and anyone will gladly help as soon as we see it. i hope you understand. you obviously understand how it works then. i was trying to explain but i think I was misunderstood. a VO can verify a presented financial document; the transactions and final balance on it but cannot request for the balance or any details outside the timelines of the presented document without the applicant's consent. he wouldnt do that and the bank wouldnt respond to that either. the VO certainly have no right to refuse an application on that ground. |
manover:hi Manover, sorry about your refusal. if you can share the circumstances in which you made your application and the given refusal reason, we can all learn from it and assess the situation together. i suggest you request for your GCMS notes before you think of reapplying. it is always good to understand in full why your were refused an application before going forward. best of luck |
justwise:hi justwise, in my knowledge and personal experience, the most a VO can do is to request the applicant provides a more recent bank statement him/herself, in a given time frame which is mostly a week for CIC, to support his case and clear the VO's doubts which the VO will then verify again. a VO will most likely not deny an applicant's application because the individual's financial institution verified his bank documents are legit but refused to disclose his/her most recent balance. he has no right to request for that information from the bank and the bank surely has no right to disclose it either. he has immigration laws he judges his applications by. i am certain of this. the risk here is that if he takes out his money, which is not a good idea, and the VO requests a recent bank statement, then he's in trouble. but this is life and something genuine can come up which he needs some of his money for. he cant leave all his money in a bank for a sticker and hope life problems solve themselves. a VO knows that too. i already mentioned it was not a good plan. |
Leleky:Hi leleky, your cousins dilemma is not a new one. Once an account is submitted with an application, you can do whatever you want with it. You cousin should however be concerned about the money in his account and its timing. If lump sums have been deposited recent months prior to the application, its money lodgement and a VO can refuse the application on funding grounds if adequate explanation of the source of the funds isn't given because it then doesn't truly represent the financial circumstances of the applicant. If he puts in the money april and applied may, it's not a good plan. How the account thing works is simple; If you submit, a VO verifies by sending the document submitted by you to your bank's internal control for verification. They are verifying the document you submitted which was presented by the VO if its legit but they cant know the current balance of your account. You have a confidentiality agreement with your bank not to disclose that and the VO wouldn't even do that. So your cousin have nothing to worry about touching his money. My opinion always. Best of luck |
babs4all:Hi babs4all, this is unnecessary. We have gone over it again and again. A Canadian VO will do his/her own verification if need be. Best of luck |
Next01:Hi next01, firstly, your chances can not be told. Only a Canadian VO can. Secondly, I really hope you had taken out time to properly submit your application. It is often a great task to show adequate ties back home when a potentially great tie such as a spouse is abroad. What a VO is looking for is why you will come back and if it doesn't beat why you may not, s/he will refuse the application. It is also a total waste of money to pay for anything before a foil is affixed. US/Canada VOs dont even request for medical insurance for short stay visitors but you can't have excess documents and you should definitely not pay for any. Lastly, and to answer your question in my understanding, when an application is made because of a reunion, the itinerary timelines don't always matter. Timelines are usually considered by VOs when it's strictly a business inclined visit such as a conference or symposium or such. However, as you are a working adult, it will bother a VO why you are spending 2whole months abroad. No employer will allow this as paid leave( unless unpaid break) and this will point a VO to question how significant your work is to you and your employer and consequently point s/he to think you may not return. Best of luck. You need it |

Dear frank2075, you know that only you know where this shoe pinches you so only you can decide. I look at timelines here for TRVs and smile at people worried after just about two months in . It used to be way longer. CIC's processing time guideline is only what it is, a guideline. It can take way longer depending on a lot of factors. My older sisters last TRV couple years back took 5 months and she pulled her passport so she could attend my other sisters first graduation in Accra. She applied the following year via online and it was approved in just 3 weeks May is not a good time to apply for any visa. Everyone is traveling so patience is very key here. If you have no pressing need, please leave them to finish their business. It is wise. Best of luck |
urblackpearl:Hi urblackpearl, you are covered with this plan. Just have your tickets handy and story straight. Your new baby will be a US citizen and does not need a visa to canada and the CBSA officer knows this. Also always remember that haveing a visa doesn't guarantee you entry so be honest with your intentions and ready to explain your ties and itinerary incase concerns are raised. Best of luck |
Imokay:hi Imokay, there is no way this is real. there are immigration schemes run by the Canadian government openly, not in secret. desperation is what fuels the victims of these scams. your brother also needs to understand that its not all rosy abroad. things are hard too and its also difficult to break even. accomodation, tax, feeding, insurance, gas, light, waste, name it. you have to be outstanding to stand out, just like in Nigeria here. if he has 4million Naira handy, maybe he should consider doing a masters degree in Canada or consider the Express entry route if he is a skilled worker in one of the NOCs available.best of luck |
nampofo:hi Nampofo, because the onus is on an applicant, s/he can never have enough documentation to establish himself at home and show overwhelming evidence of an intent to return home. it is best to be prepared. |
Sarang:Dear Sarang, just be honest and fill out everything as it is because only then can you vet it unbiased. dont try to 'package' the application. a Canadian VO is trained to see through the application without sighting the applicant. if you are not very convinced, it is better you wait or maybe visit him instead. it is good to get a business registration and required documentation.if he hasnt been working for ten years, be honest about it. he has been an apprentice and is working to better his circumstance in his home country. with time, he will be more than established and this will no more be an issue. i really hope this works out well for you. best of luck. |
Sarang:Hi sarang, nobody here except a trained VO can categorically tell you what ties are enough or not. ties evaluation is a holistic approach and an applicant can always look at his situation and make a good guess if it's convincing. He can be an apprentice and some other factors can make him qualified in a VOs eyes. Example, if he has been a traveler, have social and family responsibilities, married, have children, make a lot of money etc, his chances may be improved. But don't be deceived, money is the least of the problems here. Full engagement to Nigeria is what he need to express in every way. In my opinion, if he has finished his apprenticeship and opened a company in line with that, that is a good thing and should impress a VO. Best of luck |
Sarang:Hi sarang, I see you are taking time with this application. It is wise. Home tie is a combination of different factors. First be honest about his circumstances. Only then can you vet the application yourself unbiased. To answer your question, it actually depends. If he owns his own company, and have all documents to show for it and money inflow and outflow, a VO will be impressed especially if he has people employed. If he is an apprentice, he can easily decide to not come back unless this apprenticeship has significant values to him. If it is in line with his company, then it makes sense. If it is paying him big Money or the apprenticeship document agreement has significant prospects to his career to a VO, he is in luck. I cannot judge this because only you and your friend know his story. For the account, you can use both if you want, you can never have excess meaningful documents. However, a checkings account takes priority here as a savings means next to nothing abroad. Infact, at TD, they wouldn't open a savings account for me unless I opened a checkings account which has an annoying minimum balance. checkings also helps a VO assess your credit worthiness. You can plan and set aside some money in your savings and mention in your letter of support that this specific amount set aside in your savings on a said date is for this sponsorship. A VO likes an applicant that plans well. Best of luck |
Madcow:Hi madcow, if you submit this passport at the lagos vfs, typically you can pick it up on the 3rd business day. Its quick. Best of luck |
illusory:Hi illusory, your aunts case isn't a new one. Being refused a visa is not a bad thing, being denied entry into a country at POE is what causes problems. In my understanding, a VO will respect another VOs decision but not necessarily agree with it especially if new convincing documents are provided. Your aunt should keep her responses honest and agree with her refusals. My advise is to always attach the refusal letter but make sure reasons for refusal mention in it have been addressed and also explained in details in your SOP else the outcome might be the same. Her reason for visiting must also make sense else it might be perceived as desperate. Tell her to take her time and make one step at a time. Its easy. Best of luck |
babs4all:Hi babs4all, actually it matters not. A category V visa is issued to cover both business and tourism just like the US B1B2 visa. Both activities are covered under this visa. Please be careful and make your reasons for visit broad. Even if you're visiting for this convention, who says you wouldn't like to look around. You have to bear in mind that if this convention is not directly in line with your career and/or education, this application may be refused. You have to make a VO understand how important this attendance is and why you can't let if pass by. Eveidence of earlier attendances can help you do this. In my understanding, and to answer your question directly, you are seeking a business visa but again, it matters not. Best of luck |
CanadianNurse:hi CanadianNurse, this is a very broad question. if you are asking if they have wifi on their flights to Canada, to the best of my knowlege, they now operate a 787-8 boeing to Montreal as against a ridiculously old boeing 747 they used on this route. this aircraft has wifi capabilities but air maroc is very much uninterested in customer satisfaction like egypt air so it might still not equipped with it. if its not so important, you can see somewhere to use/buy at the Casablanca airport as the trip to canada doesnt have a ridiculously long haul flight on both legs. if wifi is priority, try Lufthansa, Emirates or Qatar that im sure of or call any choice airline office for confirmation. also have in mind that this wifi is usually not complementary, you have to pay for it no matter how small but some are not cheap.if you havent bought this ticket yet, please reconsider. |
bestbuyer:hi, 4MB is allocated to every upload which is more than enough. there are hundreds of pdf joining and shrinking tools online so you can just search and make use of one. please keep your uploads simple and clear and if possible, let each upload have a check-list of whats in it. make the VO's job easier as it is easier for him/her to deny the application than to waste more than required time on it searching and thinking a document embedded in the uploads somewhere was not even presented. also, be honest.best of luck |
Believe13:Hi Believe13, we are all here to learn and i believe people will be glad to hear your questions.if you are a genuine explorer, you might want to check the visa-free/visa-on-arrival countries a Nigerian passport holder has access to. Barbados is quite close to the US and can set you back between 300USD to 500USD on economy and of course, depending on airline and the assumption you're departing the US from the east coast. my all time favorite suggestion is Istanbul. it is incredibly beautiful and sits on two continents just across the Bosphorus river. you can get a turkish e-visa online once you have a valid US, Shenghen, UK or Japanese Visa but you must be flying into Istanbul's Atartuk airport on turkish airlines. the only disadvantage of this is that turkish can be careless with baggage so make sure to carry your most important items in your carry-on. you can do this on your way to the UK and if you eventually go to the US from the UK, you can visit Barbados if resources is not a problem. alternatively, a Shenghen Visa can do you a lot of good. the cost of a tictet to Toronto on a normal day can take you to Paris and at least 3 other European cities on cheap short haul flights. for me, i'm only interested in seeing new places and meeting people. if i am denied a visa for a country, i rarely go back unless its business and its mostly after a while. the world is too big.best of luck |
Michelle001:hi Michelle001, please check gcmsnow.com. you might find it helpful. good luck |
mesh2003:hi mesh2003, all fees have been paid at application submission. only the passport used in this application and a copy of the passport request letter shall be submitted on request. best of luck |
Michelle001:dear michelle001, sorry for your refusal. one important point to always remember is that the onus is always on the applicant to convince a VO that s/he indeed seek a temporary visit permit.also, whenever your sponsorship is outside your nuclear family, it bother's a VO and the burden on you then becomes greater. the money you have is enough but don't be deceived, the reason provided might not be the only one.let me explain how i think it works; a VO assesses your application, checks for some 'no no' for them, read your explanation letter and verify your documents.i am not sure of what they look out for that puts them off from even verifying the documents provided. every application is different, but based on the timeline of your application, s/he may have spotted something s/he didn't like. please don't take it personal but your host may have also played a part in the refusal. the VO refusal summary points to that. so you may have to look into that as well and get all necessary document from him/her. long story short, i can never advise someone to reapply for a refused application without getting their GCMS notes. please get yours and see what the VO had in mind and then when reapplying, point out the concerns and explain, with relevant documents, why those should not bother the VO. remember, if you reapply immediately, what are you going to tell the VO? that all of a sudden, you don't have a friend anymore? or that you have suddenly decided to not stay with them?(quite unbelievable) .know that a canadian VO is not bound by law to reveal the entire circumstance of refusal.take your time; don't rush. my opinion always. best of luck |
Believe13:dear believe13, your chances can never be told by a non canadian VO no matter how knowledgeable of the process you think the individual may be. you have a lot of doubts ant thats not good. whether you apply in the US or Nigeria, the VO that will adjudicate the case have the same training and the outcome will most likely be the same. prior travel to the US also will NOT guaranty a canadian visa. the whole circumstance is only known to you and the VO. always apply for visas where you have most ties to return to. my advise and what i think you should do is to apply from nigeria and hope it comes out in time. in your letter of explanation, you have to explain to the VO why this trip is so important and why it can't be the other way round(her visiting) and integrate your itinerary in your letter. if you have been a traveller, reiterate to the VO that this is not your first time out of the country and you have always come back and this will not be any different.i may be wrong but i always assume that when a VO starts assessing an application, one of the first things he/she does is to read the letter of explanation and check the documents to verify and if things check out with their verification, they issue. really, canadian VOs are not like the US VOs who just look at your ties home and most times ignore your reason for visit.in a TRV application, your purpose of visit always has to make sense. i understand you want to use one stone to kill two birds and i really hope it works out. the world is too big and its lovely to see. best of luck. |
frank2075:hi frank2075, you have been advised to use the CSE form so maybe you should try it. this is a very time consuming process and every single application is different so applications made on same day get approved sometimes several weeks apart. personally and in my experience, i do not believe the CSE and mails work because i have tried them and even had a sibling in canada contact the immigration office to plead for expedited processing but it didnt work. if its not your turn, others cant be kept on compromise so yours will be processed. there are conditions that qualify an applicant for expedition and if you dont qualify for it, you shall be queued. however, patience works. please exercise some. best of luck |
mesh2003:hi mesh2003, on the contrary, the age bracket mentioned above MUST provide bio-metrics. dear passionup, you wouldnt want to stress yourself so take your child along. for the amount, you can apportion the money whatever way you want in your statement of purpose as the very primary applicant (i assume its a family application) stating the total and how it will be spent in full details. make sure not to budget everything in your account as the VO may worry that you have nothing to fall back on back home and may consequently point him to think you plan not to return home. you can state you plan to bear the entire financial burden and your wife and child have zero cost implication on this trip. a family application is a holistic approach and your qualification will most likely qualify them but of course, this is at the full discretion of the VO. best of luck. |
Believe13:Hi, VOs know that plans change always. moreover, what a VO or POE officer wants to know is what brings you and when you're leaving. if you're going to Canada from the US, the CBP officer cares less. the shorter your stay, the better but you'd be stamped in for 6 months by default anyway so no worries there. for your second concern, yes, you dont drop your passport when you make an online application but you have to send it in if its approved. as you intend to travel august, it is unlikely it will be approved before then but check the processing times, you may be lucky. every application is very different. my advise is to mention what a 'de facto resident' means and debunk it in every way in your letter of explanation as this is a concern to a canadian VO in judging an applicant with US visa and endeavor show plans made to come back home with your family. this is very important in your application please lay emphasis on it.take your time to decide which is best for you but if you're choosing Nigeria, you have to apply sooner than later. best of luck |
testional:Hi, the canadian TRV application is typically non-appearance. i know no one personally that had to appear for one.but on rare occasions, they do especially on immigration.a VO will typically not request appearance for a category V visa which is the TRV you'd apply for as a visitor. however, your letter of explanation must explain why this conference is important to you and to a large extent, it has to be directly in line with what you studied in school or with your career path. best of luck. |
Believe13:hiBelieve13, this is totally up to you. you can apply from the US. some pages back laid out details on how to do this in new york. personally, i like having my visas handy before traveling because most times my plans are cast in stone and missing a single flight or wasting too much time at a POE can be costly but thats just me. if you plan well, your trip should be able to accomodate the application. also check if you can apply online ahead of time so you'd just go for biometrics on arrival. however, since your niece is canadian, it seems like it'd be more convenient for her to visit you. in your letter of explanation, mention she is a citizen(attach passport if possible) and point out explicitly why she is not the one making the trip and why it has to be you, have enough money and i think you're good. to me, your plan looks good but bear in mind that no matter how many people you know that have done this successfully, securing a visit visa while on a visitor status in another country is always a difficult task so have your documents handy to make a VO nudge in your favor. best of luck |
bestbuyer:dear bestbuyer, this is a pretty common dilemma and you're not alone. firstly, i shall like to clarify that no one is an authority on visa matters except a VO trained by that country in accordance to the country's immigration laws. i just share my experiences and that of my nuclear family and questions/concerns i have been opportune to ask VOs personally in that very short window at POEs. i go through visa stress like everyone else. you just have to find ways to make it easier. that being said, you can recall your passport by sending an email to the visa office if you are going the paper route. pre 2013 and in my sister's experience, you can pull your passport, use it and return it to the visa office to continue processing. this process will take about 7 working days give or take 2 days. you will not pay a new visa fee but your application will be queued afresh and the new processing times will apply.though its been about 5 years and this may have changed. also, in paper route, you have to submit your application and do bio same day so if you're still planning on doing bio but have already applied, you are using the online route in which you need not submit your passport until your application is approved. if you have not decided which route to use, in my experience and due to my job, i shall recommend the online route. i cannot leave my passport in a visa office for even a month. if you are a frequent flyer or have a job that demands offshore services, online route was made for you. best of luck. |
Believe13:hi Believe13, your question is not very clear. if you are asking whether you can visit canada with a US visa, the answer is no. you need a canadian TRV to travel to canada no matter where you're traveling to canada from. the electronic visa you refer to is called the ETA which passport holders of visa-exempt countries must obtain to travel to or through canada. this is because you cannot do a 'direct airside transit' via canada or the US, you must clear immigration, collect your bags and recheck them in if you're in transit. if you're asking if you can obtain a canadian visa while in the US, the answer is yes but this is a daunting task. the decision is guaranteed to be made sooner than in nigeria but this may not be in your favor as you have no ties in the US. attachment to an applicant's home country or place of legal residence is what a VO is trained to look out for. best of luck. maybe your niece can arrange and visit you if this is possible as it would be easier for her to secure a b1b2. best of luck |
Yjc07:dear yjc07, i hope you have sorted out the issue with form validations. please be careful with your application and always treat a canadian TRV application as though you haven't even gone anywhere before. to be honest, attending the film festival in new york may not even nudge the VO to a positive side in your application and having paid for the attendance is surely not going to do that either as you are advised to not pay for anything until you secure a visa unless ofcourse its fully refundable. what the VO would be looking out for, in my opinion, is why you are attending these festivals. the need for it in line with what you do. remember that too much 'meaningless' travel is also a concern to a VO, places visited, when and why they were visited. to answer your question, if this is a family application, which it should be, you are the principal applicant and the focus is on you and your ties primarily. your explanation letter should be explicit and the fund explanation and budgeting should be made very clear there. i would also suggest that you budget about half this money and explain the other half is for unforeseen circumstances. a VO likes a ready applicant. 5000 dollars can care for the basic needs of your trip and the other 5000 is taken along as backup. remember that if all you have is 10000 dollars and you're spending all of it, it would mean that even though you can pay for the trip, you can't really afford it. each applicant should point their funding to your application and your application should specifically mention how you have split the money across just like you have already done. this is my opinion. best of luck |

.Though my husband is not interested not an adventurer like me, he will always say" its a waste of money touring like that ,just pick one" I had to convince him to apply for the US visa with me cos I was told its easier with family. Been to dubia before. Anyway, by the end of this week should be able to decide apart from US which other country to visit. Thanks once again jawa. Might come again with questions, pls bear with me. Thanks.
